Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

At the risk of monopolizing Harry's dog again, maybe we could take Mouse for a nice long walk and ask his advice? Even if he doesn't have any helpful insight, hanging out with Mouse for a while and having ice cream with him will probably make Molly feel better.

This, I think, runs into the issue of "always searching for a perfect opportunity to use something leads to never using it at all". Note what I used for a focus - a list of licensed mental therapists in Chicago area. While there's a possibility that we'll need to use such a list for some other question, but it's vanishingly small. In essence, it costs us 1 point of essence to use it, and that's pretty much it.
I mean, never use syndrome is a thing, but on the other hand there is not using a limited resource like questions until more unlimited mundane solutions have been tried. Talking to Forthil is something we can just do. It could fix our problem, but it also helps draw us further into the Church, a source of allies and support beyond just mental health. It helps foster the Church as an ally beyond just through our father.

That's, to me, something just asking questions and burning essence can't do.

BTW, "Sleep in water/other liquids" is actually a pretty decent idea. On the fluff side of the force, it makes Molly comfy.

Making it ice-cold also not going to hurt.

Falls under a magical solution. Get the Sight, look around the house to find the guardian angels and ask them, should be a novel experience for them :V

You know, I was thinking on voting for therapy, was.

Yes but it costs a question Molly a question that could be used elsewhere.

Thing is, the way our questions works, if we were going to use them elsewhere, then those we use there do not matter, we are limited by focuses, not number of questions, so every question not on focuses that are important are free, and this is not an important focus.

Once again, Questions aren't a limited ressource, we can use them without end as long as we take some slight care on what we focus on, this particular focus is not something that will return, so burning it is completely free.

As for the *we should try mundane solutions first*, why use a worst way first when you have a better one right there?

1 AP can get us 15+ XP if spent properly. Training using AP only reduces the final XP cost, which is usless. AP is worth far more then XP, as AP turns into tons of XP.

Only thinking of AP as something to use to make XP is optimizing the fun out of the quest, it's boring, not something I want, and lose us interesting narratives, pass.

Plus, using AP to go see a therapist can still give us XP, after all, overcoming your demons IS an accomplishment.

Wouldn't be against the magical solution but want to support Yog's attitude and the best way is to help him win votes.

It's not a "worse" way. It is a way to solve the problem while at the same time using the same AP to develop further bonds with the Church and social action Father Forthil, a useful contact and ally.

[X] Look into therapy - Go talk to Father Forthil about your nightmares. Maybe he can help directly. Maybe he can guide you to someone who can help.

Edit: @Yog

Your question seems like a series of questions. I could see us using it to get the supernaturally aware ones. I couldn't see us getting any other details. We'd have to pick one.

Difficulty of making them break confidentiality
Organizational Affiliations
Supernatural Awareness

-[x] If Father Forthill cannot help, then proceed with Yog's plan.

[X] Ignore then, they will go away eventually, you are just working through some stuff

We'll eventually get the Charm for endless running, or for no sleep.
We can restore WP with a Qiao or the right Charms.

There's no need to waste actions here.

It doesn't get other details. Did I word it badly? The idea was as follows:
1) Obtain a list of all licensed therapists in Chicago
2) using the list as the focus for the crown, ask the question "From best to worst, where quality is defined as ..., list all the licensed therapists of Chicago that fall under the following list of criteria". It's one question, but a detailed one.

@DragonParadox is the question as written valid? I am worried mostly about mechanical representations I had to put into it, to define qualities of the therapists.

Ah... I hate to say this but that formulation is too exploitable, in the sense of getting around the one question rule which is fundamental to the crown. It's three questions

Ok then. How do the questions break down? The first question is getting the list of therapists. I am guessing that sorting is a second question, because it gives us additional information not covered by the first question (which one of them is the best). What is the third question?

You can get a list of therapists off the internet, that is non-Crown related. Then you can ask one of the following:
  1. Which of these are clued in about magic?
  2. Which of these are competent and would keep secrets to a reasonable standard (confidentiality is part of the job so it's one question)
  3. Which of these are not controlled by/affiliated with anyone except [Insert here,]?

Just to make sure, can we, or can we not add "starting from best to worst" at the end of the question? Or would that be a separate question too? Because if we can, than we could get a list of supernaturally aware therapists (I assume that we can't just make this list, print it out and then use as a new focus for further questions), then get a photo of the best one (first in the list) and ask "who does he report to?".

In fact, even if we don't get to order the list, I think we should still do this. Because the more I think about it, the more it looks like using therapists to find minor practitioners would be a valid targeting strategy for a lot of bad people.

You can order the list, since that is just 'what is the skill level of these people at their job'

[X] Look into therapy, sure the evil fey would be hard to explain, but you are sure you can come up with a story that gets the point across without magic
-[X] Have Cyberdevils compile, or find a list of licensed therapists in general Chicago area. If there's a licensing agency, there's going to be a list of licensed doctors.
-[X] Use the Crown on the obtained list to find all therapists aware of the supernatural. Sort them from the best to the worst.
-[X] Have Cyberdevils obtain the telephone numbers of supernaturally aware therapists.
-[X] Use the phone numbers as a focus for the Crown to ask "who does the therapist that can be reached using this number report to?".
-[X] Get an appointment with the best magically aware therapist that doesn't actually report his clients to some secret master

Ok, reasoning: the more I think about it, the more "magically aware therapists are likely to be used to find minor talents" logic works for me. Magical awakenings of all kinds are likely to correlate with mental issues. We know that Fomori are involved in at least some medicine-related businesses. It would maek sense that they, or others, would be involved in mental health industry.

Basically, this could extend beyond Molly.

What do you think Father Forthill will advise? Because I am pretty sure it's going to be *have you tried going to a therapist?*

Meaning we're back to square one with an AP used for nothing.

If we want a bond with him, there are other, better ways. We can go and talk to him about the library of congress, ask him if he can give us some other contacts in the Church without going through these hoops, hell, just go talk to him normally.
