Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

When people come to us in curiosity we should start giving them minor tasks like "hold this nail" or "hand me that tool" and let our power demonstrate itself.
That works too, but in many cases impromptu and compensated informal hiring might be better received. They are after all strangers not friends of friends that we should expect to be able to ask favors from.

Also we are going to be using hell tools if we want to make any real progress today.

You know... if we fix up the place and turn it into a safe haven, we can likely set the white court vamps to the task of tending it. They shelter there, but also maintain it and as it is ours their service is service to us.

That is one possible service. If we manage to recuit enough then I expect we might be able to manage to get some extra progress to fixing the place up.

So having them fix and maintain the place works fairly well for our purposes. Although we should be flexible about other possible jobs. It seems likely to me that many of them would rather like to leave undertown and get their life back to together when they can control their hunger. Which we should encourage both because it is the right thing to do, but also because it makes them more valuable minions.

I wonder how that would actually work. Nemesis is bullshit, but it'd still be directly wrestling with an exaltation if it wanted to make them betray us. Something even fallen angels would hesitate to do, and in some contexts (like the crown) seem to make the white god hesitate.
I would assumed that they can until proven otherwise. Which also brings up whether Nemesis could get Usum. I think it's safe to say that Nemesis probably can't mindwhammy Molly, but AIUI if anyone or anything can BS/sneak their way past a Perfect defence, it would be Nemesis.

Usum is nothing more or less than a part of Molly's mind at this point, their existence as an individual being was burned as fuel to bind the Exaltation to Molly's soul.

I can answer that, getting to him would be precisely as hard as getting to Molly, which is to say 'you can sell your soul but it cannot be taken'.

For the current vote, I think I would prefer to just start working and see if any ghouls or gribblies get curious and show up.
I agree, but do you think that we should take any steps to make ourselves interesting? Like we could do our work with our anima banner hanging out and proud.

Edit: Which incidentally would protect us against any possible surprise attacks.

Might be tricky to negotiate.

We keep talking like the dragon nest is already ours, but technically we're doing remodeling for the current owner. We still need to talk that guy into working for us before we can just use it for whatever.

"When the flood comes the ssstone that does not sssshift is worn away," the strange spirit replies. After a moment it adds. "I could carry you, make ssure you find her whom you sseek. "

"At what price?" OK, now you are really suspicious, but you're not about to refuse help out of hand.

"Aid to make my lair a more fit place to dwell, filled with light that does not fade, with beauty and purpossse," comes the forthright reply.

The deal was to renovate the lair, we never agreed to let the wyrms keep being the owners after renovating it...

On the diamond bit tho. On one hand it's risky. Diamonds aren't expensive because they are that rare, they are expensive because they are very monopolized. It's basically a legal mafia. Volume is also a problem
Not THAT huge a problem when you launder it through the White Court tbh, they specialize in legal mafia things.
Unless Molly ups production a great deal anyway.

We'll probably need to up production and set up different revenue streams unless/until we go through with the lottery plans since minions are expensive.

I mean minimum wage, which is laughably below what's needed to rebuild the lives of crazy supernatural predators and what they deserve for the work we'll ask of them, would put us as $150,800 a year in payroll expenses not counting benefits for 10 minions.

I hope we plan to pay better than an Arby's, so that number should be much higher even without getting into the support infrastructure needed to get their standard of living above the 'homeless enclave' level while they recover enough to interact with human society again.

Basic sustenance, housing, therapy, legal expenses, education, possibly childcare*; it all adds up.

We've seen more than 10 people down there, and I'm pretty sure Holt got more than that with a mean look and a dead dog.

If we take this as a serious responsibility and mutual obligation instead of a chance to exploit the desperate we could easily running straight past the $100,000 mark in the next 6 months even with a small operation.

The question came up early in the thread about what we even want loads of money for; the answer is our shitload of new and potential dependents.
Obviously we don't need to do all this at once, but paying them with MiS and calling it good would be scummy.

* there's some fridge horror for us. Crazy ghouls with emaciated ghoul children in desperate need of a bloody steak or two. Imagine Molly trying to give viable orders to a baby/toddler so that they don't feel the unnatural starvation of a ghoul essentially any time they're not actively eating.

I sort of hope that our minions will not be total dead weight financial speaking. But yes the start up costs for this enterprise are likely to be significant.

Before this is over I expect that we will be the ones with layered shell companies registered in the Camen islands.

Maybe we could order them to make a map of the underground for now, obviously without taking risks and without hurry, while we find something that we could have them do for us that would be financially viable and leave them with enough freedom to have a life?

We could ask them for ideas too, after explaining how MIS works.

If we are going to have them spend time and effort doing our will it might as well be something we care about. Right now that would be fixing up this dragon nest.

Giving them busy work doesn't really help anyone.

As for financially viable. The easiest thing would be for them to tithe a percentage of their income to us. Then they can do whatever. We can invest the tithe money into minion support programs.

Assuming of course that we believe that we don't deserve any sort of profit or benefits from this enterprise.

Votes as they stand. People need to come up with options "soon".
Adhoc vote count started by Yzarc on Dec 11, 2022 at 8:22 PM, finished with 38 posts and 3 votes.

  • [X] You can't think of any single action that would draw the dwellers here to you without scaring most of them away, so you simply start fixing up the old station for Porter. In time those with some curiosity in them would come of their own free will, making for a more receptive audience.

-[x]Bring some extra food and cash. If any onlookers come offer it for help on the project.

Options for what to do with minions or getting them?

Because having them come to us seems like the best way to go about it. It is no surprise that this vote doesn't have many ideas. We haven't so much as seen a Wvamp in undertown. We don't know them or their condition very well. We don't even have a good way to find them. So having them come to us is basically the only method.

It all depends on their approach. If they sneak up and watch us we invite them over and offer a temp job fixing this place.

If they try and attack us or rob us then we intimidate them into compliance.

Yeah, lets just play it by ear. We don't know enough to make an in depth plan.

-Financial manager get. And honestly, its probably his most marketable trait.
He's a great fighter, but no displayed experience as a general. And while he has natural talent as a dissembler, he has never really displayed talent as a spy.

-Loling at Molly discovering Thomas is the White King's kid, and just reacting with resignation.
Yes, Molly, embrace the drama. It shall always be with you.
At least you dont have to pay much for medical and dental for Whamps.

-Not surprised Molly didnt get all that much about the complexity of Thomas' emotions for his sisters.
Especially the part where she catches the fear and respect for Lara but not the love.

-Interesting note about this AU:
Its confirmed in Proven Guilty that Whamps can change their preferred emotional wavelength of nutrition. Madrigal Raith explicitly did this when he went from feeding on lust to feeding on fear, and Thomas reaction on finding out was more disgust not windrr .

So if there's largely Skavis and Malvora down here, either they never learned how to shift, or are too traumatized by their families that even shifting to other modes of nutrition foesnt help with the damage.
If she is Nemesis infected already we either get a Nemesis infected cyberdemon or we severely crimp the infiltrator's style
Molly's cyberdevils have fiat-backed loyalty, so infection is unlikely.
But given as Nephandi and Black Spiral Dancers are both CoDs in ExWoD, I am reasonably sure Nemesis-infected people count as Creatures of Darkness for the purposes of Demonic Primacy of Essence.

Which should make for an interesting encounter if she's already been infected.
But she was infected through Kravos, wasn't she?
So, it is very probable that she is under Nemesis' control currently.
We dont know when it happened IC.
Could have been at any point in the timeline, and given that Papa Raith had dealings with Outsiders, could even have been inside the Raith household that it happened.

Nemesis allegedly says it was around when Justine started getting close to Lara ie around this time.
But Nemesis could be lying.

You do it the way you approach homeless people.
Funeral services would also offer a lot of despair to feed on regularly, specialise in open caskets and viewings and that should cover a lot of light feeding opportunities. Haunted houses and extreme adventure experiences would do fear, parachuting and bungee jumping would net a lot of fear, especially beginner courses.

It would be useful if Molly could make some kind of storage vessel for the needed emotions, maybe some kind of array in a building that traps the desired emotion and life force in a carafe or something as a liquid to drink.
A despair collector could probably work as a judge, or a prosecutor, or anything, really, related to criminal justice system. Hell, a private detective would be a good job.
Fear:
Horror movie theater. Rollercoasters. Hospitals, especially ERs and pediatric care.
Schools. County jail. Slumlord. Gan

Despair:
The prison system. Mental health system: suicide counsellors, inpatient psychiatric centers.
Homeless shelters and encampments. Foster homes. Terminal care wards. Nursing homes.
Casinos. Debt collection.
On the diamond bit tho. On one hand it's risky. Diamonds aren't expensive because they are that rare, they are expensive because they are very monopolized. It's basically a legal mafia.
Not as much any longer.
De Beers lost its grip on the diamond market years ago.

Longterm our Hell is an option for people who wont fit here and trust us.
Mediumterm its always possible to buy a live-in farm outside Chicago and ship people there as a halfway house.

Its the short term thats likely to be ruinously expensive from a Molly "holy shit I need to drop seven figures yearly to meet their bare minimums " perspective. And that doesnt count getting them paperwork.

With a dismissive gesture, the Infernal befouls her target's efforts with the darkness and soul-biting chill of Kakuri. The Signature is one of the better ones, but the charm itself seems rather lame to my eyes. It doesn't cost essence to use which is good, but it also a willpower roll against difficulty 7 which means that I don't expect us to get that many successes. It also takes a turn of concentration so useless in combat.

In most cases if we want someone to mess up an action the easiest and most effective way is to mess them up. The only use case I can see for this charm is if we want someone to mess up without anyone knowing. Like if we are watching a speech we don't like and want the speaker to not accomplish their goals. No range limit so it should work when watching a live speech on TV.

So... we are angling to become the best drug dealer in the city, Walter White as Faust's devil, exploiting the pre-existing addictions of those around us. Once we have someone within our shadow we can start the business of leveraging money and favors to get those under us into a position where they can both get their own lives together and begin supporting those around them. This is also pretty much how successful cults are formed and function.... which isn't exactly damning by itself even if it could go wrong.

Huh. I don't disapprove. We'll be stretched rather thin because of our draconic obligation though.

I mean, we know that Kravos was under Nemesis' influence and that he possessed Justine. This is conjecture, but it doesn't seem far away from the truth.
