It's almost certainly not for driving around. I doubt it's for use as trophy, either, and using it as an arcane focus doesn't make much sense to me. More likely, Katrina recently had some dealings with the White Court and they want the car to tie up loose ends, on the off chance that it might point someone in their direction if they have the Sight to see such things.
Possible.
Lara has controlled the White Court for the last couple years though, and I dont see any benefit to her or the White Court from helping Kattrin with anything. Quite the opposite; involvement with Kattrin here would pull aggro with both Odin and Mab as well as the White Council.
And while Papa Raith was quite happy to work with black magicians and to make a deal with an Outsider, Whampire corporate policys seem to have generally avoided involvement with the Denarians and necromancers
Probably because they want to control society, not blow it up.
Which is why Im suddenly possessed of burning curiosity.
You have a point, but it's worth considering that as far as vampires go she's really young, and that the culture isn't necessarily the same in terms of her options and access to personal resources. The freedom and lifestyles of Thomas and his siblings aren't necessarily representative of the average white court vamp, since they have relational politics on their side to at least some extent.
It's possible that she's high enough on the totem pole that she isn't easily capable of screwing off like the ones that live in the undercity are apparently allowed to (in contrast with Thomas' crazy sister), but low enough she's still basically a goon that needs more social leverage to get personal luxury resources instead of needing to justify how she spends house funds.
Alternatively, if she is actually the white court version of a baronet or similar, she could be trawling for cheap but fancy cars to class herself up on a budget by accessorizing her goons. There's a lot of speculation in this line of reasoning, so I could be off in a number of ways. However, I think it's overall more likely that this is something simple and direct rather than being some sort of plot.
-Yeah, she's young by Whamp standards at 39. She, Thomas and Charity would be age mates. That said, by mortal standards a mortal professional would be near mid-career. Say, a Big Law associate who graduated law school at 25 would have been practicing for 14 years. Ditto a doctor who started college at 18. It seems a reasonable extrapolation.
-To the best of my knowledge, most Whites who arent just trust fund babies mooching off family fortunes(see: Madeline Raith) are either installed in positions of social influence or are very well off.
Connor Black in the Jury Duty short story was a Malvora and stockbroker. Tania Raith in the same story was the assistant and handler of an assistant DA after graduating law school. Madrigal Raith was a movie director. Charles Barrowhill from the "I was a Teenage Bigfoot" short story was a businessman with Congressmen in his pocket and his own personal security team of ghouls.
And of course Thomas was officially cut off financially, blew his nestegg on bailing Dresden out with Kincaid, and then bootstrapped his way back up to successful small business owner.
Only one I can recall who wasnt just very well off was Inari Raith, and she was barely out of college.
Functional Whites dont really seem to do poor in the Dresden Files. Too many social advantages.
But thats canon, and this is an AU. We'll see how the QM chooses to handle it.
I feel a bit vindicated now.
Not confirmed yet.
I am not really sure I want to send another servant of ours to permanently reside in enemy's hands. Retrieving Rider is already becoming somewhat of a problem.
Eh.
By the time we get our Hell up and running, we'll either be able to dispatch backup teams for that sort of thing if necessary.
Or we'll buy a Hellfire Path/Fortune Path ritual for precisely this eventuality.
There's also a 2-dot charm, Electric Devil Caress, for locating, identifying, accessing, controlling and destroying electronics in an Essence*5 yards radius.
Which is on my mediumterm buy list, because it allows us to identify electronic devices, and to pwn people's phones electronics.
Molly could certainly modify a phone that allows the resident devil to self-destruct, but as long as there is nothing the electronic or mobile parts of the phone can do to melt it the phone cannot self destruct into a bomb in someone's pocket.
Destroying a phone doesnt really require any of that.
Delete the firmware and the phone stops working. EMP the phone and the electronics will burn out.
Unless by destroyed, you mean with physical signs of damage.
