Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

The real trick would be signing on to the Unseelie Accords I think. Because the White Council doesn't want to be the ones who break that deal.

Technically, any freeholding Lord is capable of signing on, right? This would be something worth using our Crown on.

You make it sound like we could be a wizard in good standing.

But we are not a Wizard.

Even if we did get to be accepted as a potential wizard we'd be stuck as an apprentice for years and by the end of that we are a fully grown Exalted anyway and it won't matter.
Joining the council as a real Wizard is just not in the cards without a lot of trickery and a timeframe that's quite possibly beyond this quest.
Apprentices can still network with each other, we see them at the formal meetings and acting as gophers.

I think the council isn't going to draw a distinction without more research on what Molly is, especially when we start using the parts of our build related to sorcery and crafting. We have invested in being a magic nerd pretty heavily at this point, so it's likely to come up.

Harry barely counts as an adult by Wizard standards, but power and knowledge count for something with them. It's a foot in the door that simultaneously heads off a serious future risk. I don't see the benefit in ducking it.

It's not like being an apprentice means we have to show up at Merlin High or take standardized test each year or something. Harry would be in charge of our education; which is happening anyway since he almost certainly won't let us wander off to park the Enterprise on our front lawn without some sort of assurance we won't blow ourselves up.

That's a good idea, but how to do that? We'd need three entities already in the Accords to vouch for us.

It would be a good story starter though, to seek favours for it. We just need to keep the Council in the dark until then and race to it, I guess.

You would need to know what the Accords are first, but after that sure you can ask questions about it as a concept. That said you might want to get your mundane and generally available info first so you do not blow variable subject intelectus on it

Because Usum is a demon and certainly not above paranoia when it comes to gatherings of sorcerers who might want to use him (or in this case you) it should also be said: The Crown will probably scare the hell out of a bunch of people high up in the Council, especially as they have no way to a make you waste questions since they cannot see you using it to check. The moment you lay eyes on them their most shameful secrets are at your fingertips... and I mean that literally. "What is the Merlin's monst shameful secret?" is a valid question

So maybe do not share that widely is the demon's suggestion.

[X] Plan: Explore your Options
-[X] "Okay, okay, we're getting ahead of ourselves, let's step back for a moment, look at the whole thing, and figure out how we can sort this out without anyone needing to come under threat of death or damnation"
--[X] "The problem at hand is that I did Black Magic, and the White Council takes a 'Zero Tolerance' policy towards that, due to the effects said Black Magic have, the fact that the situation has changed doesn't matter, because they don't want to get in the habit of making exceptions, because Black Magic is both addictive and tends to drag people into doing more and more evil things. Actually making said exceptions requires someone to stick their neck out for you, and doesn't actually get you off the hook either. You can do that, but you have enough enemies who'd take advantage of it that it would meaningfully limit your own options. Let's put a pin on that, but I don't want you to have to stick your neck out if we have another solution, right?"
---[X] "Now, I'm guessing the White Council doesn't have the right to just go around and kill everyone who uses magical stuff in a way they don't like. The very fact that we just got out of a crisis where a nasty faerie spirit was doing spooky magic things, and there's not a state of open war between them and the White Council. So why is it that they're not enforcing their take on the Laws there? Is it just because Winter is scary and they're being bullies? Or is there a jurisdiction thing going on that we can work with? Who is the White Council unwilling to cross to enforce the laws?. Is it that their jurisdiction begins and ends with Practicioners? In which case, there's a good argument to be made that I don't count as one anymore--I don't even know I can use magic the same way that I used to. Is it political? Diplomatic? The point is knowing who it is they can and can't punish, and we can figure out a solution from there, if we can't... Well, we can fall back to your option--but I don't want to get you in trouble like this unless there's no other way forward."

Effectively classifying oneself as inhuman preemptively and thus unable to be judged by the rules of men. Ballsy, I admit. Real ballsy.

Like I said, the real solution here is "Sign on with the Unseelie Accords", Marcone managed to get on those, and it's functionally a mutual Non Aggression Pact between signatories tied in with diplomatic credentials and channels, and Marcone showed that they are flexible, all you need is the balls to try, and the might to succeed, given how he got there based entirely on money and influence rather than any arcane power. Molly is--technically--the reigning Prince of a Hell, even if she can't access it yet, she has territory. It means the White Council can't just declare that Molly is a rogue Warlock who needs to be executed without triggering the mutual defense clause. It even satisfies the hardliners because the Unseelie Accords also limit how much bullshit Molly can do in turn, it's a compromise candidate, but it merely requires audacity, rather than getting anyone threatened with getting their head cut off.

One small note Molly is more like a pretender to the thrones of the Thousand Hells, they do have lords who presently hold power over them. That said even if you don't ever clam Kakuri et all you can with the right charm make your own earth sized domain. You can even make your own bespoke servants with the new crafting rules, though it is still much easier to just corrupt them from other factions.

I'm referring to the little hell-plane which exists in potential even if there's no way to access it until Essence 3, but yeah, at the end of the day, the requirements to be considered a Freeholding Lord under the Unseelie Accords are not beyond a baby Infernal, and it'd be a pretty solid initial arc to go with, so I'm trying to be very clever here!

But either way, we can explore our options and figure out our direction going forward.

The only potential problem I can see is...

If we are a signatory of the Accords, and represent our Kingdom/Hell, if a signatory of the Accords, naturally and through no action of our own goes to that Hell upon death, does that fall into "dont harm each other deliberately" part of the Accords? Very niche situation but still.

You can even make your own bespoke servants with the new crafting rules, though it is still much easier to just corrupt them from other factions.
We can also point buy inhabitants to our Kingdom when making it, right?

"Don't harm each other deliberately"

If you're dead and somehow end up in hell, that's not your problem.

Oh yeah sure, complete with their own culture, politics and civilization. Buying some rebels is a way to get more points for goodies even

[X] Fine, you will do what he thinks is best

I think it would be really funny if we kill harry in a few updates, truly break the mold.

I personally really want the earth sized dominion. A whole world of our own. Truly a god are we :V

The Unseelie Accords are not a Non Aggression Pact it is more formal rules of war. And we can't just sign on their are requirements beyond getting 3 signatures, you still need a minimum level of infrastructure and minions.

The point here is to establish if there are other options, this is the one I can personally think of, but there may be others.

The point is to question, to determine the best path, not merely the first one that comes to mind. We've seen where "First one that comes to mind" can get you, never agian.

I can think of one very mind-twisting attempt to get Accord protection, but I am 99% sure its even worse than the Doom. I am still going to put it out there just in case.

If the shadow of Lasciel is indistinguishable enough from Lasciel for the purposes of the letter of the law, Harry would be part of the Denarian part of the Accords, and could declare us part of his faction/retinue.

I am not sure how feasible would it be to sign on the Accords at this point in time, or how likely Molly could sign them without some outside support...

There's also the fact that the Accords will limit what Molly could do, don't know if it is that great of an idea to shackle ourselves to some magical stuff.

Isn't there a way to prove that Molly is no longer human? Some magic, ritual or exalted hocus-pocus?

Or... can't we just use the Crown and ask the question? Wording it so that it only affects the current situation with the White Council?

The point is figuring out options here, just because I can think of one from out of universe doesn't mean it's the best option.

But we have two very smart people here, if there's something that can be done to figure out a path forward and then use Crown of Eyes to nail down uncertainties, we'll have a path forward.

But just accepting the first thing that comes to mind isn't really good civilization, I feel. Assess the situation, learn what you can, choose the best path forward, not merely the fastest. This is the route to Responsible Use of Power!

The Accords aren't magically binding. Their value comes from "if you break the rules we, the signatories, will collectively come and break YOU".

And I don't think we have a good way to prove different soul structure. And if we do, if it would be a good idea.

Perhaps different magic? Molly's Exalted sorcery is clearly different than what a normal human wizard could do, or for that matter what the fey could do.

Maybe we only need to prove that we are working on different systems of magic?

Hmm, is there any sorcery/ability we could spend our points on that can make visible (temporary or permanent) mutations/inhuman characteristics?
