Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

We can spend the Crown to ask "what can she do in a fight?" or "how does she fight?", or something to the same effect to learn her combat abilities. This would give us an additional layer of preparation and surprise against her.
We'll see I guess.
1) Only one of Katrina's 3 known tricks counts as mind magic to our Charm, and the other two are giving us an "unfair amount" (DPs words) of dice penalties to our Melee pool, or turning us into a fancy glowing statue until one of our allies touches us, so forgive me if I'm not comforted by a Charm that just means she doesn't have a third way to mess with us.

2) The way Gard described the effects made it sound like spending temporary willpower wasn't actually enough to get out, only being touched by an outside force works. Also, 1 temp WP is the potential cost for EIPP, if we decide not to spend essence, and I don't think it would be a 5-dot Charm to let us spend willpower to ignore effects if the rules already let us do that. And I don't see any rule that would let us do that, especially since it doesn't specifically say that it's a shaping attack, just a spell that affects your personal time flow, which EIPP still protects us from.

3) It might just be me, but the way DP phrased it, it sounded like Michael could only protect himself from the time effects by default, and he could only protect us by touching us to pull us out of it, or by using Prayer, which he can't do and fight at the same time.

Hopefully we'll get the 26 XP we need to get EIPP and VLE, but otherwise I'm prioritizing EIPP and then doing what I can with the remaining XP.
1)Mind magic is covered by Impervious Primacy Mantle. Its the shaping we spend WP to gainsay.

2)Or just that most ppl cant and dont spend temporary WP the way Exalts and Protagonist characters do.

3)Well see what the QM's ruling is here. But I know that at Chitchen Itza the Swords had AoE effects even without the bearers wielding Faith magic. Im significantly more worried about Kattrin using magic for self-enhancement. Because you know Haste is in theme for a time mage, and antishaping defenses dont do anything for when shaping is used for self-buffs.

Anyway, we're not going to be spending XP before this fight so moot point.
Fair, but do keep in mind that I am the same for SWS, as I feel that the -1 difficulty is more impactful then Ox-Body. Soaking at 5 is a qualitative increase across the board.
.....yeah, I could go on, but lets just say that I will be pushing for it.
Fair. I dont think the math supports it though.
Soak rolls are made at DC6 iirc.

If Molly took SWS+VLE, she'd be rolling 8d10(Str4 + Ebon Scales 1 + Stamina 3) at DC5 for soak with 7HLs.
If she takes OxBody+VLE, she's rolling the same 8d10 at DC6 for soak with 11 HLs(Base 7 + OxBody4), with Pain Reforged already in effect for reducing wound penalties.

Given the AP hell we're going to be in for the next few turns with building up the Earth Wyrm's nest, I really think it'd be a good idea to get the Qiao of the Meng up to the second dot so we have an easy source of Willpower so we can finally get Nightmare Fugue Vigilance.
I have no interest in NFV for thematic reasons.

Flight seems very non-essential.
.......
In combat, the importance of footing is paramount; see Dresden's fight against McCoy.
Flight removes that as a consideration if our enemy has made the floor slippery or scattered poisoned caltrops or turned the floor into lava or some similar hazard.

And thats before considering the utility effects, like being able to evade confrontations by sending our car one way and flying away in another direction, or entering a room with floor level alarms, or being able to pursue or engage in combat over water, or attempt to catch up with fleeing vehicles, or just not leaving tracks for people to follow.

The applications are vast, in and out of combat.
So no, I politely but vehemently disagree with your assessment.

...Does that include 3 dot Infernal Charms? I'm wondering cause that would include Frothing Devil Catalyst, which would mean we could actually pull off the "Refine Oil from Hell for sale" trick we joked about earlier.

Pretty sure not, but three dot powers can be pretty good.

For example, Wings of Pegasus is a three dot werewolf gift that allows you to fly at 50mph. Or Lucky Bastard, also a three dot werewolf gift that allows rerolling a failed roll.

Let me put it another way. Charm based flight seems very non-essential. Spending a valuable slot of by Rage Recast on it is just as bad when there are better ways of getting the same capability.

And Flight would have made no difference to anything we'd have done so far. There's been a distinct attempt to avoid combat outside or where there could be witnesses, and flight isn't very compatible with that.

Arc 2 Post 37: Esoteric Express
Esoteric Express

22st of July 2006 A.D.

"Deal," you do not hesitate even for a moment, looking right into he strange custodian's eyes... and carefully not looking at your dad. Really it's not like I promised anything bad, you reassure yourself. It's just help in a search for manual labor, sort of like Tom Sawyer painting that fence without tricking anyone to help. Although assuming I could somehow get some construction equipment down here I could put spirits in it and get them to do some of the literal heavy lifting....

"So what are we gonna... yeep," Cindy yelps as the earth wyrm snakes across the tracks to stretch out before you. Four sets of handlebars grow out from between its concrete 'scales', rust red, the color of old blood.

"I sssshall take you to sshe whom you ssseek," the spirit hisses.

"Molly are you sure it's safe..." Dad is looking between the girl and the very much not OSHA approved means of transportation.

"I think it's safe, certainly more than splitting up." The old Scooby Doo 'let's split up gang' runs through your mind. This is the kind of place where they'd have a big set piece chase with the Ten Thousand Volt Ghost or something. "You'll be careful right?" you ask the spirit.

The emergency-light eyes turn to look at you flickering in time with the dying neon above. There is a rumble of grinding stone in its belly right below its head and to your surprise amid the broken concrete emerges a marble bust, sort of neoclassical goddess with a bird on her head. You can just make out the letters 'CHI...GO' below it and on the armor itself 'I Will'.

Gard does not need anymore convincing, she grabs on to one of the handles and after a moment your dad does likewise with the one behind her, though with Cindy hanging held in his arms. "That would make it hard for him to defend himself at need," Usum notes clinically.

"We came down here to rescue her," you remind him as you take your own place, the foremost handlebar right behind the 'dragon's' head.

The stone flows and coils under you then with a sound eerily like an old time train whistle he surges forth, the light of his eyes casting cones of luminescence along the rails, down and through the long darkness. Air whistles past, cold and brisk until even the smells of undertown begin to fade.

Behind you you can hear Cindy whooping... and to be honest if Gard weren't here you'd be joining her. This is just plain 'take the sled down the hill', 'ride the big roller coaster' fun.

After a few minutes you are out of the subway tunnel and into the rough hewn passages, needing to lay down flat to fit at all. Water drips onto your face, thankfully not the foul stuff you had been walking in all this time, but fresh like rain water or even snow-melt. It's getting really cold down here now, cold enough that you feel like you might almost be able to draw power from it when, suddenly the spirit veers hard left into what looks like an old wine cellar of all things with one of those fancy spiral stairs like a medieval castle leading upwards towards faint white light.

But that is not the only light in the chamber. In the middle of the spiral is Lydia, holding in her left hand a pale blue witch-light, looking a bit bedraggled from her walk about Undertown but otherwise fine. You can't really blame her for looking shock at the sight of a great big stone dragon roaring into the room with four people hanging out the back of of it.

"What... Molly what are you doing here!" she shouts down

What do you reply?
(Include any Essence Usage)

[] Ask her what she is doing down here

[] Say you were worried about her

[] Write in

OOC: A bit short here, but this is the natural break point. No rolls this time around, you would have had one to see if you caught up in time if you had not taken the offer, but with it that was automatic.

Just flipping through Werewolf gifts for future reference, but an alchemical drug that induced a vision with the effects of Pain Chain would be pretty incredible if we have more detective type work in future. Backed by an Excellency, know the identity, nature and appearance of one person in a chain of command/influence per success would be great.

[X] Rescue mission for a little girl, so Katrin can't blackmail her granddad anymore.
-[X] She is incoming with nonbreathing company btw, so we should get out of here

Just keep in mind simply because Harry can teach you alchemy does not mean he will be able to teach you the specific concoction which will let you grow wings. You are going to have to figure out whatever combination of low level power synergy you want on your own at the cost of time and XP. I do not want to rule stuff out, but for balance purposes it's going to have a cost to learn what are basically low-to-mid level supernatural powers with each concoction and device.

So how do I vote for this?
Like this.

[X] "Rescuing a little girl who was kidnapped by Nazi Necromancers so they could blackmail her grandfather. Say hi, Cindy. What are you doing here?"

For example, Wings of Pegasus is a three dot werewolf gift that allows you to fly at 50mph. Or Lucky Bastard, also a three dot werewolf gift that allows rerolling a failed roll.
Think WoP's speed gets increased by Windborn stride? Which is, I think, the main concern over whether BRR would be better.

And just like that, my joke is a real vote. Sweet.

How close to winter NeverNever are we?

Was she maybe about to bargain for assistance from Winter? That'd be costly.

Presumably if we research new recipes we can share them with Harry or other alchemists?

Tool Transcending Constructs applies to creating something, and that something includes computer programming, which is literally just a list of instructions, i.e. a recipe. Would it also apply to creating an alchemical recipe? It seems like it should, as just like computer programming it's a creative process that usually involves trial and error, innovation, and research. Being able to create recipes five times as fast would make alchemy more attractive, particularly as it could be a force multiplier for allies.

It's rather annoying that the solar teaching charm can teach paths of sorcery, but the infernal one can't.

What thematic reasons? Needing to sleep is a pure negative, both in game and IRL. If you can regain WP through other means there's no reason to do so.
The fluff elements have serious consequences here, which is honestly something I like about how @DragonParadox has been handling things.

NFV involves imprisoning your nightmares in a way that makes any sleep you do get worse.
To the best of my understanding Dragons Nests are fixed locations.
But I suspect we might be able to use it as a train station/airport for minions from our Hell.
Poor phrasing on my part; I meant that as a quality comparison, not as something meant to imply we mount a 50 cal on a ley line nexus and ride it to battle.

That said, bringing Molly's hell into this could make it even better as a transit system. If her devils could bring people with them, then supernatural movement would be a lot simpler to arrange for potential customers.

People like the white council put with more than they would out of respect for power alone with the winter court because they need the ways. Getting into a similar market could give us a lot of influence. Especially if and when the masquerade falls and using mortal transportation become more difficult for everyone.

I do have a small addition, she did already run once instead of talking.

Should be Charisma+Empathy, I think?

Yes, alchemy is mortal magic so if you figure out something you can share it freely with others who have the skill. Tool Transcending Constructs would not apply though as you use Occult and not Technology to craft it as that is what Harry has to teach you with.

[X] Making sure that my brother's girlfriend and fellow teen wielder of awesome cosmic powers makes informed choices and isn't taken advantage of. And also doesn't fall into the hands of ancient nazi necromancers trying to eat her father.

She's asking about here here, not Underground here. Let's leave Cindy out of it a bit. And try to establish that we are a peer, not someone trying to control her.

your dad does likewise with the one behind her, though with Cindy hanging held in his arms. "That would make it hard for him to defend himself at need," Usum notes clinically.
List of things that are guaranteed to end poorly:
1) Attacking a knight of the cross while they're holding an innocent child they just rescued in their arms.

Seriously, with the power of white god brand Mysterious Ways on their side it'd probably be safer to attack them while they're armed to the teeth and waiting for you. :V

Not much point in using essence for social rolls with friendly people unless we have a specific goal in mind.

This was really cool by the way.
