Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Back in the 80s, you used to see ads for toy robots you could remote control or program.

With HMP, we could build one that could act as our own personal R2D2.

Take some work and money, but would help with crafting and construction.

Superseded. As far as we know, it is impossible for us to use magic like a mortal. Though sufficient shenanigans may be able to resolve the problem. I dunno.
Might be able to buy it as a merit. Ancient Sorcery, and charms is more powerful though.

Ideal solution would be a talisman that stops techbane of the wearer. Or at least that would be equally as useful as the field version, if for different applications.
I dont see Molly with the time or investment to make several hundred talismans just to cover the Wardens alone, let alone the several thousand for the entirety of the White Council. Not if it requires her personally burning Essence to do so.
And the WC cant afford her services anyway, not at that level.

She might make some personal items for people she's invested in personally, but frankly she has better payoff from making one or two dozen items that can be set up at regional hospital sites or White Council command centers where technology failure is not acceptable. Places that benefit from scale.

If she can design an item that can be moved from place to place and autocasts an area anti-techbane ward thats renewed yearly or every decade, even better.

And the WC cant afford her services anyway, not at that level.
I am not sure about this. White Council and their Wardens make for a very potent ally, more so if equipped with modern electronics.

Also, what we are discussing is called Order-Conferring Trade Pattern. Something to strengthen reality and prevent chaos from leaking in.

It would probably be better to leave mass production to demon smiths.

Given how heavily Molly leans into crafting, she'll likely produce some demons inclined to that sort of task.

Potent ally, sure. But they cant afford her. Not for that sort of craft monkey mass production project.
Not when other people are bidding.

Molly's the only Exalt we know of on the planet.
Molly's time in general, and Crafting time in particular, is some of the most valuable available on the planet.
Making personal items for every single wizard or Warden is going to be well outside the payscale of the White Council.

I mean, consider the fact that Mab has spent several years purging the Leanansidhe of Nemesis, something that Molly can do in an hour. That only the very top scales of the Sidhe Courts can cure Red half-vampires, something she can also do in an hour.
Thats the kind of thing that the White Council is bidding against.

On any sort of free market for services, Molly is straight up unaffordable.
After all, what can the White Council offer that would outbid Mab offering Molly a contract for establishing and maintaining Nemesis-detection wards along the Outer Gates to backstop Rashid?

What she's going to be doing is partly charity, and partly sending aid against a mutual enemy so she doesnt have to fight them herself.

Arc 2 Post 38: Taken
Taken

22st of July 2006 A.D.

"Rescuing a girl kidnapped by necromancers to blackmail her grandfather" you yell back as the grinding of stone on stone gets a little less."Say hi to Cindy. This is my dad Michael. And the lady is a volunteer." Your eyes flicker briefly to the witchlight in her hands and back up to her face. "I recognized your shoes in the muck, and I worried. What brings you down here alone?"

"Hi Cindy," the girl pipes up. Apparently a brisk ride on the back of an earth wyrm was more than enough for her to get over the whole 'find out you are magic by performing an ads hoc exorcism on herself' thing.

Alas Lydia does not seem to be in the mood for jokes, as she leans over the creaking balustrade of the stairway her eyes widen looking first at the elemental, which fair enough he's plenty scary when you don't know him, to dad, which you guess might be more than a little intimidating if she has the senses to perceive Amoracchius for what it is, but then she looks at Gard and worry suddenly turns to something much deeper, her pale cheeks turning white as snow.

"I was just..." she cuts herself off. "I was just exploring, I mean there is a lot of stuff down here that is worth learning about, the hidden side of Chicago you know. I'm just getting into my groove with the..." she makes the witchlight bob in her hand, a little higher than it aught perhaps. "You know the magic. Look I really can't stay and chat. I have to get home..."

"Home?" you glance towards the pale light above. For all you are not sure what is up there, but it doesn't look very homey.

"By the Ways you know the paths through the Otherworld. It wouldn't be safe for you and it won't stay open long either since it's a natural way. I kind of ran down the clock down here, having too much fun you know."

"She lies," the familiar voice calls in the midst of your own confusion. You do not need Usum's counsel to tell that, but why is she lying. Is she just embarrassed about whatever she's been doing? About spying on you? How would she even know you know that? Other posibilities about what she could be hiding present themselves, ones far darker. If one were inclined to practice the magics of death and the heritage of Arwan one could scarce find people and beings less likely to be missed than those of Undertown.

While you had been speaking your dad had set Cindy gently on her feet and found somewhere a piece of rotted barrel that could still bear his weight enough to serve as a seat. "There's other ways to the same place no matter if it is on this side of the veil or the other. It's worth stopping for a while and talking to others on the road rather than try to do everything yourself. Maybe we can help with word or with deed."

"I'm not a..." Lydia's voice cuts off again as she hesitates. "I'm not able to stop now, please understand I have to go home or my dad will worry. I'll talk to you soon, but it would be really dangerous for me to stay here. I need to be home by the hour or I'll... well let's just say that Cinderella got the details wrong, but not the essence of it."

Some kind of fey bargain then. You had seen her summon something, if it had been fey and agreed to help her only until a certain hour it makes sense that she would want to be home on time. The Ways are a lot faster than any mortal transportation so long as you know what you are doing.

But something niggles you about the way she had phased that. 'I am not able to stop.' She is obviously physically stopped now so it can't be the literal truth in a fairy tale sort of way. Like a leaf bobbing to the surface of murky waters you recall the shape of her face when she had cut herself off. She had not been about to sound off a 'b' but an 'l'. I'm not... alone. The moment the thought passes through your mind you cannot unseen it, the way Lydia is standing unlike her voice has no shred of hesitation to it, she is relaxed, but only in the way a runner is relaxed when they are about to run into a sprint or a poker player blandly watching the table behind what they think is a winning hand. You think you fear, the girl, your friend and the daughter of a former death god is possessed and whatever had been advising her before had taken a more direct hand when she had been about to reveal it in response to your dad.

Hardly daring to breathe, lest some twitch of your face or shift in your manner give away the game, you breathe in the essence of the lie in stillness, buying yourself that one precious moment more. "Your move Princess of the All Seeing Eye," Usum hisses and there is more truth that flattery to that one.

What do you do?

[] Warn dad, he's the one with the sword and faith can banish dark things that cloud the mind of the innocent

[] Get your elemental friend to ram the stair, Lydia will most likely get hurt, but it's better than some monster pulling her strings like a puppet

[] Write in

OOC: The second expenditure of Essence was for a Subterfuge Excellency without which it would have been very unlikely for you guys to hide that you know, thus costing you the surprise round. I figured that was worth spending.

It recognizes Gard the Chooser of the Slain, but not Michael.
Its a ghost. Norse ghost.

Telekinesis would be just as or more useful now.
As would several other things, like Sapphire Banishment.
TK against an unwilling target is an opposed roll IIRC.
Sapphire Banishment is a one hour ritual.

So no, like I said, Flight.
Or she senses a death god because she's the scion of one, potentially.
No, I dont think thats Lydia sensing Gard; she would have no reason to blanch at the feel of another death god.
Its the possessing entity sensing Gard, and causing the involuntary fear reaction.
Because an old Norse ghost would know what a Norse psychopomp looks like.

Also note how her control of magic improved. She's not in control of that any longer.

QUESTION
-Can we get an estimate for how far up she is from the ground?
-How far is she from the portal?
-Whats the terrain like? Do we have the space to attempt a repeat of what we tried in school with the falling kid?

So is grappling after flying over to her. And we can also stunt parkour jumping over to her. This is a confined area, we don't need to be able to fly when we can stunt.

A psychopomp might well be inherently terrifying for any mortal who knows what they are. If a Chooser of the Slain comes for you that suggests you may shortly be one of the slain.

Also, I don't see why a ghost would have any ability whatsoever to control the divine magic of the scion of a god, even a god in reduced circumstances. A ghost should have even less practice with it than Lydia. Different powers are used differently. Necromancy is performed differently to regular magic which is different again to fey power (Harry had to learn to use the energies supplied by the Winter Knight mantle), and that will be different again to the specific magic that Lydia has inherited from Arawn.

  1. She is about twenty feet off the ground and she can spring the rest of the way to the top in a single turn so if you want to stop her you either do it this round or beat her initiative next round
  2. The terrain is flat dusty floor with a few broken barrels and benches thrown in. You do not really have the room to get a running start

Mass production is what our Kingdom is for. We design, probably make prototypes, likely make the tools needed for mass production, but the mass produced version should be made by our soul's inhabitants.

How long is the elemental, how high can it rear up?
But isn't the only psychopomp she had actually met before this her father? And she actually likes him, I assume

He's also encouraged her to do her own research into the occult. She may well love her own father but recognise that other death gods are incredibly dangerous.

Normally it sits about four feet off the ground, but it can coil like a snake until it is eight feet off the ground. It's full length is twelve feet but it cannot stand up on the very tip of its tail so eight it the limit.

We have Athletics 1 dude.
And she literally has control of the earth; we saw her doing a Static Shock type move.
I would not want to rely on stunting shit.

She lives with a psychopomp. Her father. Its not going to scare her when we didnt.
Only if said psychopomp was makingbthreats against her.

Because she summoned it and presumably was deceived into doing so.Maybe she fucked up the summoning. Maybe she was given a deliberately fucked up summoning. Maybe it got hold of her Name, or part of it. Maybe it was a ghost with specific experience against changelings.

Her father kept warding their home with herbs; presumably he knew she was vulnerable in some way.

Kravos Nightmare literally ate Dresden's magic for most of Grave Peril, amd Dresden was an actually trained White Council wizard faving off against the ghost of a sorcerer who was weaker and less knowledgeable than him
A sixteen year old scion is meat for an experienced actor.
