Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Wow, that is pretty damned freaky. A monster being able to pass as a mundane vehicle, including the ability to carry passengers and move at acceptable highway speeds, is not something I would have expected.

That a couple of Red Court mook thralls got sent out to investigate an odd occurrence in a monstermobile rather than a normal vehicle means the camouflage must be good enough to pass reliably on a day to day basis, otherwise it probably wouldn't be risked so casually. I wouldn't be surprised if they have a whole stable of monstermobiles, either.

I don't think that's a valid assumption. The outside is famous for its effectively limitless armies, and they don't exactly have the same logistical restraints humans do.

The sin eater is holding the opening shut, it isn't fighting the things trying to get in*. If the gate peels open I don't see any reason to believe that the Outside would allow the fight to end until at minimum they'd slipped more agents inside.

* Which says some weird things about reality's defenses, but presumably there's a reason for all of this that makes sense if you have more lore on border interactions.
I am fairly sure that we don't actually know what's going on, whether it's a singular thing that sin eater is holding back, a limited number of things, or if it's holding closed a fault in the reality's construction.

@Yog

On that dragon build, it occurs to me that working with the Shih could present it a bonus nearly as powerful as what it grants them.

The Qiao are internal power things, and if we can learn to do it with essence I see no reason a dragon built to enhance their powers couldn't do so with his own energy. Most of the bridges don't inherently require a human form either, so it could take them back to use with its native form.

I'm not totally clear on how to parse those weird attributes, but plenty of them would benefit from stuff like Mo Kung. The various air powers would make for flavorful abilities, and Long Ling would be appropriately brutal in its claws.

Getting through the Qiao of the Shi would probably be the most bullshit option though.

Not sure if this was the intent all along, but the feedback loop hadn't really been brought up yet.

The quote I pulled from Maeve directly states that Winter isn't sure exactly what it is but does think it knows what it can do. It's possible they're wrong, but it's their job to know this stuff and they wouldn't be accepting insults like this is they didn't have to.

In absence of contrary evidence we can't assume it's something we can trivially handle.

Regarding the stat block - I am honestly unsure how to read it either, I just quoted it directly from the Bygone Bestiary. And not sure how the feedback loop would be parsed either. I mean, it's a fascination splendor, a piece of solidified magic, not an arcana. On the other hand, it's a dragon, that exists manifested in the world for at least a hundred years, and probably can learn and develop. It's a sort of fringe thing that the rules exist for, but don't really cover in much detail. A positive feedback loop would be great, and would validate giving it to the monks, where both it and they benefit greatly from it. And the monks do benefit greatly. The transformed state is very powerful on its own, and since it can soak aggravated damage, and heals quickly, their qiao become much more powerful.

And if, like we were hinted, dragonblooded actually exist in the setting, I wonder what this sort of thing will do to their breeding ratings.

The stat block for dragons in the Bestiary is organized by age, youngest to oldest stage. The first number for the relevant attribute is for the wyrmling stage, and the last for the elder stage.

Edit: I'm also not sure that Form of Graceful winds is the appropriate choice here. One of the example splendors in the pdf is a sphinx, which used Form of Dreams and Nightmares. A dragon is a similarly fantastical being, and unless the dragon will be literally made out of air and cold, FoDaN might be the more appropriate choice.

EditEdit: I'm not sure that Elongation of the Curse can be used multiple times for the same element? The wording at the end seems to imply it can only be used once. But if the QM explicitly approves of it, it's fine I guess

Wasn't one of the summer fey infiltrated by nemesis a hound master? Or was it a stable master. Maybe a connection anyway.

[X] Leave and find a quiet room to bring the others through, you are satisfied that at the very least you will not be easy to track

I want to bring the others out. They are all going to be annoyed if we go on adventures without them.

Was looking at some other splendor stuff for nemesis, and I think it'd be nice to consider simpler things of direct benefit to Molly instead of all these higher power longer term things:

Form of Portentous Moonlight (1 pt. Form Element)
The Splendor takes the form of something otherworldly. It may be a religious symbol, an overtly
magical object such as a wand or pentacle, or a strange haze. It may be an inchoate thing of
coalesced light which can be held and touched. This Element defines the Splendor's physical
form and gives it a character, and that character is aligned with the power of the Spirit World.
Other Elements may draw upon this fact.
The Splendor can be summoned directly into the Umbra when made to manifest, if its owner
desires. As the basis for an Adornment, it grants its user the ability to see and interact with spirits
on the other side of the Gauntlet. As the basis for a Fascination, it can interact with both the
physical world and the Spirit World.

Long Reach (3 pt. Root Element)
This Element can only be part of an Adornment.
The Splendor allows the Exalt to use one particular Ability, such as Larceny or Brawl, from
much farther away than she really ought to be able. The Exalt can act from (Splendor's rating) x
5 yards past her normal limits

This splendor appears as a fine brass chain of precisely 25 links covered in alien scripts, each claiming a set of 5 for their own. A knowledgeable soul might recognize them as the languages of the Fivefold Courts of Fate, each telling their own story about the labyrinth and the great difficulty of escaping its reach.

When the owner holds a melee weapon the chain winds itself around wherever they hold it, reminiscent of a sword knot, granting some of that terrible grasp to the wielder.

Effects: The wielder can use melee at a range of 5 yards of physical distance, and strike across the gauntlet which is visible to them at the same distance.

We do have speed buffs, but range has its advantages and being able to cut people across the gauntlet would be helpful.

It's an hour long build, so maybe if we have time after paying Ivy?
You revise your estimation of the two vampires' bravery up two notches and their wits down the same amount, to be willing to ride around in what you are pretty sure is the creature's mouth, particularly as the false-car bears them clashing auras of bruise purple and and poisonous yellow, hatred and disdain. The closest comparison you can come to is how one might feel about an infestation of tapeworms
Does this count as a supernatural secret for essence recovery? It's minor, but the existence of angry fey disguised as cars used as muscle by Vegas' supernatural scene seems like an uncommon bit of knowledge.

I'd like to mess with these guys, maybe use ATP to facilitate dragging them to hell without really understanding what's going on until it's too late and offering them the opportunity to buy their way out with snapple facts about their boss, but we are on the job right now.

Well, it's an elemental dragon, so I thought that was the most appropriate element. It's an embodiment of an element in a way. It's an edge case, admittedly.

This I asked previously, and we were allowed to take multiple elongations, so we don't need to have 5 dot splendors for permanent effects, but can have lower tier splendors focused on making an effect permanent.

Long reach is a very fun thing, yeah. The only issue is that it's an adornment only, and only one adornment attuned per time is allowed by the rules. But yeah, in general, it's a great one, very useful for melee builds.

Arc 11 Post 40: Crooked Coin Toss
Crooked Coin Toss

12th of January 2007 A.D.

After a brief investigation, that to their credit involves taking water and soil samples the pair of vampires get back in their faux-van and drive right around. Fortunately between the quaint narrow roads and cul-de-sacs of Henderson and some pretty cautious driving on their part you can easily jog along, letting the wind carry away tiredness with every breath taken. The monster mobile leads you out of the neighbourhood altogether, up towards Vegas proper on paths that had not known the scrutiny of any homeowners' association. It's commercial yes, but in a way far more raw and perilous than the hansom little boutiques with flowers in the front greeting the customer. Chain-link fences rattle in the evening air and streetlights blink like like the eyes like the failing gaze of some nocturnal predator once, great now overcome with age. The gang-signs scribbled on peeling plaster range from a skull dripping blood, a stabbed heart gushing blood to a minimalist artist who just went with a red blood-drop crowned with a saint's halo.

A handful of buildings sport forlorn 'for sale' signs hanging of rusted hinges, empty windows peering out onto the street like the eyeless sockets of a corpse, but for the most part this section of Foremont is a clearing house for the moribund rather than the already dead, casinos and bars whose once imperial or plush colour schemes might have been the height of fashion ninety years ago, but now look as tacky as they are threadbare, not that the people on this street are likely to complain. The glassy stare of folk who cannot quite believe how ill their fortunes had turned, the shamed walk of those with too much of a burden on their souls to lift their eyes from the pitted pavement, the ones wearing long sleeves despite the heat.

It's a fire sale on lost souls and unsurprisingly the trio you are following are driving right to the the beacon at the centre of it all. A neon sign in gold and purple reads 'ky Penny'. You'd have to be a fool to come close enough read the whole thing 'Lucky Penny'. You'd have to be desperate to believe it.

The van pulls over to what seems to be a familiar parking spot as a dark haired man in ripped jeans and a studded jacket comes out to greet the occupants. You aren't the least surprised to spy the shimmering silver veins of a White Court Vampire shot through his aura, this is prime feeding ground for Skavis and Malvora both, odds are the Raiths would not go hungry either, what is strange is the rest of his aura swirls grey and brown, as bitter and self-loathing as any of the clients blown here by winds of mischance.

"I see you still have your head attached, call can't have been that bad eh?" he calls to the driver, his tone making it clear he rather regrets the fact.

The only answer is a growl, low in the throat before the other blood brother answers. "Stow it Mutt. Is the Sniffer in?"

"Upstairs, he's with a customer." At the mention of the word 'Sniffer' thin lines of red flare to life across his aura, anger once white hot now all but spent.

"Well jack him out of the customer then, boss said he needs a read on this shit pronto," the talkative vampire says.

"I don't get paid to jack Sniffer," the one that had called Mutt sneers. "Go fetch him yourself."

"You get paid Mutt?" the driver cuts in with feigned surprise. "Always figured this was the only doorway in town you can darken without getting chased out."

The incubus' eyes flash silver, but he doesn't make a move. One of the Red Court would be hard enough to deal with for most of his kind, never mind a pair. He spits on the ground, causing the fake van to shift restively on its wheels, though he pays it no mind, turning instead on his heel back to the Lucky Penny to grab a smoke.

Perhaps not wishing to test if he'd be more willing to test them one at a time the pair of reds enter the casino together to look for whoever 'Sniffer' is.

What do you do?

[] Try to commune with the glamoured beast

[] Approach 'Mutt', a dissatisfied person is often a good source

[] Wait to find out who Sniffer is

[] Go inside, learn more about this place

[] You've seen enough, go to the abandoned building across the way to bring the others in

[] Write in

OOC: Welp you've been here about twenty minutes and you are already in the seedy part of town.

We can't delay too much without causing others to worry.
