Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Honestly surprised the Red Court has time to approach the Wan Kuei given they're locked in a cage match with one of the few forces capable of and desiring to annihilate them, but maybe they're looking for allies or something.

*Rolls for it*
Molly suspects it is the other way around, the Reds are desperate so they are seeking allies. As to what they could be offering she has only guesses, but that faint touch of the divine on Arianna's lips is concerning. Yugen, Golden Chi is known among the Wan Kuei, but hard to access, only the least of spirits yet linger in the material world. The Blood of a true god on the other hand could be... vastly precious especially to the Thrashing Dragons who above all else exult in the imitation of life.

[X] No, advise that he be more prudent. For all the world is moving swiftly too much haste can still make one stumble

Everyone who goes through this is an ambassador for the program, which is especially important in a faction that has no unified command structure, and where a lot of things are hinged on your reputation.
If shit goes wrong, it reflects on Molly and Molly's reputation in the outside world.
Which will make outreach to other factions harder.

Not by RAW. Of course by RAW there is nothing stoping it from looking at itself or predicting the results of free will. Even Sidereal don't have a defense against asking the storyteller a question.
Thinking on it further I suppose that although something like Anonymity Through Propriety might not block the crown it might make someone ignore the answers and people will also gradually forget Sidereal by default.

That isn't exactly a ward against our crowns sight, but it is a defense.

An Abyssal can't stop you, but they might be able to make you eat a derangement, depending on what you looked at. I think Sidereals have something similar.

The answer is usually... both. Most to watch and measure from outside, seeing what works and what doesn't, and a bare few to wade into the ocean and be watched.
Both comes with another issue, if you send both the cautious and conservative and the swift and imaginative they may well come into conflict. The Shih are not a military unit, they are a loose brotherhood of individuals linked by common philosophy. What hierarchical relations exist among them are the product of master apprentice pairs. Other than that it's a matter of respect held by the young for the old... or not in some cases.
Maybe interact with each group in a different way to start?

We want to get them comfortable with us and our people comfortable with them while coming to understand earth better. Having Shih come to us exclusively isn't as effective as having people going both ways.

So what if we start out by inviting the old masters to visit and asking the active youth to host? Sure the old ones are more paranoid, but this at least partially defangs the threat we pose to their way of living. They also have more time to spend on the FCF and more skill to apply to stuff like translating and teaching arts.

The younger people Divsimar is talking about are the ones out hunting monsters, it's not like they can cash in a few weeks of PTO to come say hello. They benefit most from having people come help them with their work, and we get a chance to have our agents get their feet wet while people who know they're not from around here help them adapt.

There's still room for conflict, but gives us an opportunity to get each group working with us on their own terms instead of aggregating internal political issues*. It's unlikely to get that bad if we're on top of things, but why make it harder on ourselves?

* Radical Shihborg Schismatics, however hilarious they sound, are unfortunately a fail state here.:V

Hmm.
Forgot about their yearning for Yugen Chi. Thats probably something that should concern Lash as well, because I imagine that Laham/Nephilim/Incarnate are even rarer than spirits these days.

That might work yeah, but keep in mind that if you have active shih 'host' that means a whole lot of people are going to have an eye on your people and what they can do.

No just rare, unique. Once they find out about her Tiffany is going to have a surplus of enemies. Should we let her in our hell?

Oh and also I should tell you guys, I'll be going cross-country on Saturday which means we may not have an update then and if we do it would be towards the afternoon
(Hopefully my laptop holds, every time I use that thing I worry that it is going to give out, but everything is so damn expensive)

Better to let the old man with more experience with his people handle this carefully.

Arc 11 Interlude 3: Simple Situations
Simple Situations

9th of January 2007 A.D.

"Urgh..." the sound that passed Harry's lips as he entered the bedroom could charitably be described as clearing his throat, if one was attempting to clear it of a particularly large toad. Three steps shuffled back and a door hurriedly closed followed before a strangled question came from the other side: "What are you doing?"

"Attaining physical perfection in the human form, now shush, you made me fumble an invocation," Tiffany replied, though in truth he had made that mistake all by herself about ten minutes ago. If anything Harry's appearance had cheered her up because...

"Naked?" He sounded so offended, the woman sitting cross-legged and yes, naked on the bed thought. After all he 's trying very hard not to sound... Damn it now I'm making mental puns. Perhaps I should count that his counter to seduction.

"It makes it easier to see the changes," she replied serenely.

"Well you're doing great on that account," the words are half a mumble and perhaps he had half-hoped she would not be able to hear them.

"You say the sweetest things," she let the silence grow a moment before adding: "I'd say that flattery will get you nowhere, but you seem very shy getting somewhere... like in this room. There, I'm done." Muscle and bone altered to the very pinnacle of human physical prowess. She could push it beyond of course, of that she had no doubt, but Tiffany was mindful of the dangers of pushing her guise beyond humanity.

Tiffany Gains Dexterity ●●●●

As for Harry sharply in-drawn breath was the only answer to show he was still there.

"It's to make myself more nimble," she teased some might say cruelly, but that was reasonable enough, Tiffany MacNeil was after all a recovering demon. If raiding his closet was not enough she would make the point more directly.

"We've talked about this..." the wizard started and start was as far as it would go.

"You have talked about this ad nauseam Harry and it isn't any less absurd now than it ever was. Do you have any idea how improbable it is for you to take advantage of me after everything I've done?" A note of levity entered her voice as she added: "Everyone I've done too, come to that."

"Do you still want to stick around?" From someone else the tone might have implied that he wanted her gone, but she-who-had-been Lasciel knew where this conversation was going.

Play along for now, she thought. "Yes."

"And the reason for that is that it's safer for you behind the wards?" Predictable as clockwork. Well the clock had just struck midnight as far as she was concerned.

"Yes Harry." She allowed herself a small sigh of exasperation. "That does not mean there is a causal link between me wanting to take you to bed and the wards that ring said bed. I am minded to ask if you think I'm a whore, but that would imply I think there is something wrong with whores."

Silence on the other side again, embarrassed and a tad confused this time.

"If it means that much to you I can find some other place to... ah crash. Marcone's wards should be able to take a beating given who raised them. Odin's do not skimp on quality in their fortifications. And I have no doubt 'Gentleman Johnny' would pay handsomely for giving his people a a bit of a leg up."

"Damn it, why are you doing this!" Now he was getting angry. As far as Lash was concerned that was a good, she knew what to do with anger. Step one, get off the bed without making a sound.

"The usual reason," as she said the words she implemented step two, opening the door and posing tastefully, as one might for the brush of a Renaissance master.

To that Harry made no answer though it was clear enough from his expression what answer he wanted to give. His eyes were certainly going places.

"It can just be fun, for no other reason than we both want to."

And for a while it was.

OOC: The more things change... Previous vote still open.

I'm not so sure on this one.

I get the point he's making, and I wouldn't want to create a situation where people feel pressured to turn into something they don't want to be, but solely working through one aspect of the community doesn't eliminate the hypothetical pressures involved. It just takes away a potentially hazardous relief valve.

If the turbulence of the wheel turning is enough that some Shih would seriously consider becoming helltech cyborgs or the like what means will they seek in the world at large if that's not an option? Not that I'm saying we should send them Arasaka's summer cyberarm catalog, but some level of involvement seems prudent.

There is some risk in sending our people to help them, but I think it's manageable. Sutra would be a good place to start because they have spirit grade immortality. I know I'm one of the people who harps on information security a lot, but I think deployments like this are worth it. Some amount of leakage is an inevitable price of doing business.

I mean, if not now then when? What are they supposed to do to gain firsthand experience with earth? How can we use the advantage of a large coordinated state acting in multiple places without anyone learning about us?

Take that smash and grab we paid Odin for after killing Ortega. We have our own CIA equivalent, some of which should be capable of safely operating outside the courts, but we couldn't trust them to do it because they don't have the exposure needed to translate their skills into this new environment.

We need to walk before we can run, and from a purely self interested perspective this is a good opportunity for that.

From a more empathetic one the Shih we're leaving out are the ones who are at the most risk. They're the active demon hunters who're going to be in the trenches all the way up into the dawn of the sixth age.

If sending very foreign exchange students isn't palatable medicine and other material support would be good. I'm particularly curious about our ability to help with the chi problem via industrial alchemy.

Pretty much every WoD game line that has alchemy includes multiple options for restoring physical stamina and healing injuries using it. Given that chi is literally life force it seems plausible that we could make something to restore it.

Maybe not in the classic mana potion style, but a buff to their ability to regenerate it coupled with enriched materials to make it from isn't particularly exotic as far as 1-2 dot potions go.

From the previous update, we may want to start making our own deals with Wan Kuei Ancestors to compete with the growing influence of the Red Court.

The jades aren't stupid; if the red court is going to offer them god blood we'd need to match it to gain their cooperation. I'm not sure it's a good plan to empower them to that degree.

There's also the issue of Molly looking like a Yama Queen of some type. She isn't, but signs indicating she is are very obvious to the trained eye and the ones contradicting very subtle. Piercing the exaltation's cosplay isn't a trivial task.

The jades accuse people of being Akuma for a lot less than trading with someone like us, and making it stick is a good way to screw someone you don't like. The rivals of the first elder we talk to are going to tar and feather them.

I'd rather just assassinate the red diplomats.
