Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Huh.
Looks like we're buying a speed charm next. And making a collapsible baton.
OOC: So yeah having a demon in your head is good for winning initiative, who knew. Michael... Michael knows, but he has only been on the other side of that so far.
Okay, so lycanthropes from Full Moon.
Men, but possessed/ridden by a spirit of rage. Not all that much stronger than normal humans, but less sensitive to pain, and heal better.

OTOH, Michael and the gangsters can handle the incoming melee dude. Its the shooters that we have trouble with
One point worth noting is that the aversge US man is five foot nine.Molly is five foot eleven.
She's big and strong, even before Str 4 comes into play.

@DragonParadox
QUESTION
1)Does our Demon Weapon have to take the form of a sword? Can we make it take the form of a pair of cestus/smashfists instead?
2)How big are the neighboring tables? If Molly grabbed one as a battering ram, would it slow her down?
3)If Molly rolls Intimidate against the spirits riding the lycanthropes, what happens?

I'd be up for buying the Skinned Alive speed Charm discussed in the thread.

If we do that though, we definitely need E2, because we won't be able to use Excellency and the speed Charm at once, and the point of it is to prevent situation like this...which would make it so we have to do both at once.

@DragonParadox can we use the broad of the blade to hit the bullets back at them in order to destroy the guns?

Yes in theory but that would need a charm or martial art

  1. It is s sword because that is that Molly thought of as 'a weapon' back in winter and now that is how the demon thinks of it as well, you could change it, but not arbitrarily. Something would have to change about how you see battle
  2. Normal six person tables, you would be able to do quite some damage to someone with that, but it would not slow down the rampaging berserkers long
  3. You do not know for sure, but they are spirits of rage, not the most rational of their ilk and you do not have any charms that make you specifically more intimidating to spirits, so it seems unlikely to work

Just go for Boiling Oil Mastery first.
We should be able to just turn a glass of water over our head and get a bonus without spending Essence.
I don't mind being obvious in this instance, and especially not like this.
If we dont need to be Obvious, there's no reason to be.
Moot point now though.

1) Fair. We need to make a collapsible asp then.
2) So no real point. We could rip a leg off the table, but it wont help
3) So that points cut off as well.

[X] Try to charge past them and attack the ones still in the van (Dexterity+Athletics; cannot use excellency)
-[X] Stunt: "Dad, berserkers" you yell as you vault the table, hell-forged brass sliding into your swordhand with a pulse of Infernal power as you sprint into the path of the attackers. With your offhand you grab the jug of lemonade, splashing it at face level towards the spirit-ridden as you attempt to slip past them towards the gunmen in the rear.

Average mortal pool Dex+Ath is 4. Molly's Dex + Athletics is 5. Not great, not terrible.

There is an enemy van attempting to physically block us in.
This should trigger Cracked Cell Circumvention against physical confinement, dropping Difficulty by 3.
Cracked Cell Circumvention should also give a bonus against any attempts by the lycanthropes to block or clinch us here.

And identifying the incoming threat is critical to letting our allies react properly.
Communication matters.

Going melee excellency and lethal damage is pretty risky, but I think treating the guys with guns as anything less than a VERY serious threat is a big mistake. I don't want Michael shot up like he was in canon, and this ambush seems planned with him in mind.

I kinda disagree with the first part.
We can obviously go into 3 different directions aside from the van, this isn't nearly confining enough to count fo CCC.

So you believe the buy list, in order, should be...

Boiling Sea Mastery, Essence, Skinned Alive Speed Charm? Or something else. Just to get an idea of plans.
Boiling Sea Mastery, then Windborn Stride, then Essence.
In that order.

This is Navy Pier:

Its a projection out onto the Great Lakes.

We are on the lakeward side. The van/bus came in from the land side, and is between us and the shore side.
We cannot get back to land without having to get past the van, and our other alternative is to cannot dive off the pier and swim while wearing armor.

These guys seem pretty well prepared and know what they are doing putting them down hard and fast is for the best. Also someone who has the balls to just shoot up a knight of the cross is bad news.

Just keep in mind the place is not as touristy as the pic above. Major renovations only begun in 2006 and we are currently half a year out from that.
Fair.

Looking at the perps, we have a six man attack team: two melee berserkers, two gunmen in the van, an old dude who is apparently team leader, and the getaway driver.

The old guy is obviously a warlock: an older gentleman with a posse of minions, wearing a good, expensive suit, trying to steal mystical artifacts, and critically, he's carrying a revolver instead of a semiautomatic, which often indicates techbane considerations in older mages. His minions are apparently carrying normal semiautos.

I would think he's responsible for putting the spirits of rage into those men via ritual magic.

He may have a patron, but he's responsible for this op.
Odds are we're looking at a Victor Sells/Leonid Kravos-level magical talent; strong enough to be dangerous with preptime, not strong enough to be a White Council-level practitioner.

The other five seem to be more or less disposable muscle brought along as such.
They may be organized as a cult, or as a streetgang a la the Streetwolves from Fool Moon, but they are basically minions of the old dude.

Question being how the dude missed Molly's Magical Vortex of Doom(TM).
Or maybe he felt it and thought it was from whatever artifacts he's here to steal.
We'll see, as long as Molly doesnt shank him fatally.

Nah, these guys suck.
They obviously dont know Michael is here, and probably dont even know who he is on sight. And they dont know who Molly is.
There are street gangs who have better tactical sense.

I mean, they sent their assault section of melee guys ahead of their shooters into a situation where they are badly outnumbered: two men to attack six(Michael + 2x gang dudes + 3x monks). Now their berzerkers are between the shooters and their targets, blocking line of sight, and if the gunners open fire, they'll almost certainly be shooting their own guys in the back.

Newbie gangbangers know better.

A group that was on the ball would have just rolled their van up right next to the monk's table on the sidewalk like they were dropping off some people, and either held them up at close range, or opened fire first, THEN dismounted the melee dudes to clean up. Thats like basic driveby etiquette.

Or they could have been patient, waited for the handover to finish, then simply followed the monks somewherr less crowded and hit them en route to their hotel room or lodgings.
Where they did not have backup.

When this is over, Usum is going to critique this operation inside Molly's head with the benefit of experience, and he wont be kind.

The main reason to put them down fast is that they are so obviously inept at field operations as to just as likely to fuck up badly and cause disaster. A group with what looks like two semiauto firearms on the Navy Pier on a Sunday afternoon when families are enjoying the summer weekend is a recipe for a mass shooting.

If we want concealable bashing damage weapons we should use our craft mechanics score to make some collapsible gauntlets/brass knuckles instead of spending exp on it.

Also, @Artemis1992 is it necessary to kill them? With superhuman swords skill I'd have thought we could break their arms and possibly ribs with the flat of Molly's blade.

I'm not really broken up about offing two guys who want to shoot us, especially since they don't seem to care about the people caught in the crossfire, but if our first night out interning for Michael ends with Molly stabbing multiple people to death our current problems with Charity might explode again.

It was functional, just horribly damaged. But he could grip within two books, and play guitar in four?
when I say flayed I don't mean quite so literally sorry just you know flamethrower damage. It took a few books to heal 100% is all I'm saying. The spine damage though he noted he could fully heal in decades which you know wizard life span means he could actually get over it. But, in the immediate sense those decades aren't very helpful.

wizard healing is great its not even spider man levels of bullshit though.

Been thinking about which spell to get first. And from a logistical level the Earth Blessing seems better overall compared to the Air Blessing. Air lower the dex penalty for armor by 1, Earth raise the soak value by 1. Functionally it is the same benefit, an extra soak armor dice.

The thing is the Air blessing requires making new armor to take advantage of it. While the Earth Blessing works with existing ones. While for Molly that is not an issue. Using the spells to upgrade Micheal's armor, or a second Cloak for Dresden, would need, a entirely new one for the Air blessing. While we can just upgrade existing armor with the Earth blessing.

Earth Blessing is also better from a stealth side. As going up a soak dice, with the air blessing still means wearing bigger thicker armor. While the Earth Blessing allows more concealable armor to just work better.
