Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

"If he would be a dog, bid him heel!" Usum hisses in your mind

So you do, rising from your seat and from the chains of gravity in one smooth motion, a crown of verdant eyes like dreadful embers burning upon your brow. "I did not come here to spill blood and no blood will be spilled. If you make me fight I will strangle you with my bare hands and cast your corpse into deep water where none but blind fish shall eat it so that your kin do not grow sick with your stupidity."
Holy shit... This is some good writing. I felt how pissed she was through the screen even.

I think it might be preferable to use bonus AP to do stuff better, rather than do more stuff. Spend a couple AP on training, stuff like that. Still a lot of effect. No need for DP more segments per turn.
That's literally already the system DP proposed. We can only use the new AP to finish multi-AP stuff faster, like finishing the Dragon's Nest (an 8 AP monstrosity of a task that's been draining AP we could use for more quests and getting stuff done) or, yes, training. It won't cause more segments in a turn, just make more stuff happen in segments that would normally be fluff text for "numbers go up, you get closer to completing X."

This is a potion to gain more AP, it was sold as a way to gain more AP, people voted for it to gain more AP, refusing to use our source of AP when we can offer a perfectly valid answer to *concerns* and show that is not the horrible problem you paint it as is giving up right at the finish line, it is frustrating, annoying, really goddamn repetitive in how often you do it, and fear mongering to boot.
Holy fuck so much this I have no words.

Also, seriously, what the fuck @DragonParadox, why is "don't actually use the thing we voted for" even an option? Like, sweet christ, if a thing gets voted for, how many extra votes does it have to win consecutively to take effect? Or is anything even remotely contentious going to get extra "but actually, no" vote opportunities for takebacksies and retroactively wasted AP, not just super coffee? This is actually infuriating.

I don't disagree, but I foresee a lot of those votes when we finally get MMS.

I completely disagree. I voted for the winning plan with the 160 hour energy drink and my vote was to have it for critical situations not for constant boost. Just because someone buys a sledgehammer doesn't mean they have to use it all the time. Most times a regular hammer will do just fine.

The first vote was what to buy and this second is how to use it or limit the use of. First vote went my way, doesn't mean this second one will.

So I hear you, and I have two counterpoints:
1. Literally the entire point of Exalted (in general, but Solaroids twice and Infernals specifically thrice over) is "A) a big enough sledgehammer really is the perfect tool for neurosurgery and calligraphy and microchip fabrication and tea ceremony; B) you have a big enough sledgehammer".
2. Both Molly and the questers would have to be a really, really special kind of stupid not to take the anti-AP-hell choice when offered, given her ongoing projects and the demands on her time in-setting and the greater plot & project progression per same amount of DP's writing out of setting that the super coffee offers.

1. I dont think so. Exalted is rife with examples of just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should. IE beating the Neverborn piñata for sweet necromantic candies.
2. Thanks for calling all other questers with opposing views "a really, really special kind of stupid". I'm sure that will do wonders for making people want to switch to your way of thinking. But yes other than that, some people are happy with our current priorities and want to work within the current AP budget. They want Molly to expand in one direction but not another. For me, removing sleep entirely is too much and clearly some agree while others don't.

*sigh* sorry. I should know better than to post while sleep deprived. And you already quoted it, so there's no point even deleting it. I really truly do think this sort of anti-transhumanism is stupid. But I'm normally smart enough not to admit to it in public, and it was rude, so, sorry.

Oh, doubtless. *facepalm*

Then those people should go find a Solar game and play Humans But More, instead of crippling the infernals' More Than Human playbook with their hand-wringing. I don't think there's a good Solar game or quest going on right now, so I don't have a good answer.

No worries, I can understand the frustration. I felt the same way with MMP but lost that vote as many were squeamish about what they interpreted as mind control. I think it just comes down to what each of us prefers and we try to reach as close to a consensus as we can.

In any case it looks like the vote to use the energy boost all the time is going to win so we move further in that direction which will be interesting in its own way.

Using it in a limited manner is still using it, being able to pull an arbitrary number of near-all-nighters is a powerful ability, just ask Harry.

This misconception keeps popping up. The potion we are discussing does not remove the need for sleep. It reduces the need for sleep down to 1 hour per night. This is a better than what real life mutations can achieve [1] [2] [3]. Each one reduces the need to sleep to 4 hours per day, at not cost otherwise (or at least at no cost observed so far). What a combination can do is unknown (or at least I wasn't able to find the articles).

Sleep Reducer potion most likely work the same way, except with magic - it makes sleep more efficient, so you get 8 hours of rest out of a chrnological 1 hour.

    -[X] Empathy excellency, BSM
-[X] Write in explanation to your parents: it is super-coffee. It doesn't have adverse effects. You could probably feed it to a toddler and the only issue would be the grief they cause their parents. It doesn't stop you from sleeping, it makes you need less sleep. It isn't addictive. You can and will show the recipe to Harry to look over before starting using it. If they observe that your mental or physical health are deteriorating somehow, you'll stop. And if they want to, you are more than willing to give them a cup to try.
--[X] Stunt: You move, hair still wet from the morning shower, into the kitchen where both your mom and dad are, a steaming pot of coffee on the counter. Filling your cup your join them: "So, apparently my vast cosmic powers come with super coffee recipes now. I guess I can always start working as a barrista for the supernatural folk if the whole 'make diamonds and protect community' thing falls through" you say: "It's a blend that will reduce the need for sleep to one hour per night, with zero side-effects, and the effect lasts for a whole week. I plan to use the free hours to try and get more things done, and I was planning on sharing the recipe with Harry; he could certainly use more hours in a day. Would you also like some? It'll take a bit to brew though, and I'll have to order some ingredients - the super-coffee is actually quite hard to make".
