Green Flame Rising (Exalted vs Dresden Files)

Ok, idle idea, not given a huge amount of thought to this; but I was reading the arguments for and against the diamond mine/factory options, and one of the things mentioned was that our lack of electricity usage might tip people off to our process being weird.

This would depend on Thomas' advice on what state is best to best our startup/'factory' in, but if he suggests Illinois (i.e. Chicago) then what about buying a property directly above the Last Station and running a powerline down through the factory to the people living there?
(It would of course be designed such that the powerline can be 'plugged out' at the surface (the connection/socket would be under false concrete flooring) and plugged into the 'diamond machine' in the event of inspection.
Or heck, the 'diamond machine' just sits over the bit where the powerline starts to turn straight down :) )

This seems workable. I mean you would still have to pay for the power, but you could certainly draw it and it would take a hell of a lot less time than figuring out how to plug a microwave into the Dragon Line.

I understood it like that: evolution happened. The primordial soup, abiogenesis and everything. But there were "Miracles in small things, patterns in the chaos, footprints in the dirt" set up so it was humans that evolved. And it was setup by someone aiming at recreating "what was". Possibly a survivor of the previous ages.

Also, Aztecs got a lot of things right, cosmologically speaking, and we probably want to kick some Red Court vampires out of ancient ruins and talk to some aztec deities, some of whom might or might not be Dragon Kings.
More support for my Sidereal god hypothesis. Just about anything else that wanted to make humans would just directly make humans. What else when having a goal just about always defaults to; I'll just manipulate fate to make that come about.

[X] Starting up, you have an assistant and an idea, not to help actually set this thing in motion, not just the paperwork but actually getting (or making) some machines that look like they could make diamonds. Also includes making more diamonds.

I'm really starting to get into that "God is an overgrown Siddie" theory.
They must be pretty careful right now, another Exalted showing up, one very hard to manipulate via Fate, can be a big asset, but could also ruin the whole deal.

We should make sure we aren't in a Dark Forest cosmos or something before we mess with those.
Humans are exalt-capable. The rest of the universe might well be hiding from us.

If he is really a sidereal then he must be celebrating for weeks for the arrival of a new solaroid, even if it is an infernal one, because the one that was chosen is 99,99% (and just not 100% because there is no impossible for the exalted, for better or for worse) certain to be his ally and in the future, if she raises to the status of a Primordial, even a suitable circlemate.

As someone who has spoken at length about letting Rosie know that we'd be in a position to help support her if needed to get her out of from the control of her parents (her mum, wanted her to get an abortion and, iirc, said that she would not support Rosie if she kept it) I really want to get the cash thing set up before doing Rosie actins incase her circumstances come up in her action.

Similarly, I want to get the cash action set up before doing the Porter actions, as it will let us know what we might have available to meet the needs of the ghouls working for us if that stuff pops up during said action.

My idea for hiding low electricity bills would be to buy a server farm and powering it. This gives us cyberdevils in a dedicated hardware setup to support our crafting, and covers one of easily observable falsehoods in our pretense.

[X] Restoring the Last Station: Restoration efforts have been going well and according to Adam some more of the people down in the tunnels have shown interest in their newfound wealth and comfort (2/8)

lets upgrade that place a bit, and see who else shown interest

We might even be able to employ the ghouls at our business. Start getting them a work history again.

So, two ideas for discussion:
1) After Big Book of Yomi Wan is finished, I think Molly should continue to write books a lot of people would kill for. So far I have two ideas:
a) "Soulgazing the Abyss: the safety guide to close encounters with beings beyond mortal ken". Take what we learned from the Crown to allow Harry to safely soulgaze us, consult with Bob and Usum, probably use some more questions to study the human soul (maybe?) and write the general safety guide.
b) "The Origin of Life" - take what we learned of evolution, add notes on mystical evolution (ie where the various demons come from), add both scientific and mystical knowledge. We should also study (perhaps even spend a Crown question) the nature / origins of techbane, the general origin of mortal sorcery (I mean, OOC it's not salinan working at all, and we haven't heard anything about gorilla wizards, so it's human-exclusive) and include that into the book. The results of beating up Red King like a pinata for aztec lore too.

2) Murphy's armor we should be making. So, barring magical materials, the strongest and lightest material we are likely to use is carbon based (carbon nanotubes, diamonds, etc). The strongest mystical carbon we are likely to get would be willingly sacrificed human ashes. We should aim for ones with the strongest resonance to Murphy. What does this mean in practice? If I was disregarding social issues, I would aim for Murphy's father's ashes (with Lydia talking to his ghost to get his agreement). However, that's basically impossible. Plus he's a suicide victim, so his ghost might be in hell (rescue him as a favor to Murphy? Something to think about).

So, my proposed plan would be:
a) Find a honest female cop who's terminally ill in the latest stages / dying of old age. Ideally Buddhist of Hindu faith (those are the ones that have cremation as religious practice). Cyberdevils would need to be used for this.
b) Talk to them. Reveal magic to them (ideally, find one that is already aware of magic)
c) Ask them thrice to donate their ashes after their death to protect their fellow cop
d) Cremate them with full military honors, with mystic fire, the monk who's teaching us helping (if the cop is of appropriate faith). Ideally burn them with legendary grade equipment we make for them.
e) Get Lydia to ask their ghost before they pass completely if they still agree that their body's ashes are used to protect their fellow cop. Ask three times, ritualistically
f) With Lydia's help forge the ashes into a nanotube armor. Add your own blood into it for power, and maybe some of Mouse's fur (arguable, might want to throw this out). Go for broke with exalted shenanigans in crafting.
g) Ideally do points d-f on Halloween
h) Using the obtained (probably already beyond-legendary) underarmor, get together with Harry and enchant it for further protection.

This is basically "as overkill as I can think of, without involving base magical materials". It also might give some investigation bonuses to the armor. Ideally, we would find a literal bodhisattva who would agree for their soul to be bound to the armor and postpone their ascension to guide and protect Murphy.

And yes, this is one of those plans of mine.

According to Butcher NeverNever extends only as far as the moon, sadly, if I recall correctly. This raises a question of whether there are separate NeverNevers for each alien race. Still, this is genuinely fun. We could probably seed the coordinates into SETI...
Another thing that's worth considering is the calibration gate ancient sorcery, which is set up to go to wholly separate spirit worlds. The nevernever is a mishmash, but I could see the argument being made that the primeval spell of "go to whatever spirit world you want, even if the current link to a particular one is bad" spell could be resistant to concerns about physical distance. Or at least could be used as the basis for making something that is.

It's not like it'd be the only infinite range effect in exalted. It wouldn't even be Molly's first one.

:V
Seeding the coordinates is probably pointless though. Most of them probably haven't had radio long enough to make it to earth, or be recognizable as actual communications at this distance.

Eventually we might be able to use this stuff, but I think it's probably going to have to go on a shelf for a bit. We just have too much else to do.

Do we have anything groundbreaking there? Seems like we just go confirmation that evolution happened, but the white god did something to push it along and develop the spiritual side of things. Which is just Catholic canon with cool special effects.

The only difference is the bit about cyclical creation by different gods, and that's pure syncretism we have no proof or even a fully developed theory on the mechanism of action for.

It'd read as religious fan fiction to most people.

This is getting wildly ahead of ourselves in its entirety.

We don't even know Murphy, talking to her about willing human sacrifice is a bad idea.

Even setting that aside, we don't have any magic item crafting skill or know anyone other than Harry that does. The magical significance of the base item doesn't matter without a way to express it, and Harry sure as hell isn't going to go for this.

There's also the matter of preferences; being the most mechanical optimal and steps having been taken to mitigate the worst issues doesn't mean that Murphy will want to wear something like that if a lesser but still effective alternative is available.

The time and set up necessary for this is so extensive that we can't even accurately guess what'll be going on in the quest by the time we can feasibly try.

Armoring the squishies is something we should get into, but this particular approach seems like one of those pie in the sky ideas that ends up a bottomless pit that strangles actual useful work out of the proverbial budget.

I say that once we get fast travel we quickly go to a few of their dishes and put cyberdevils in them. Tell the devils to always work toward pointing the direction of those coordinates. I expect that the confusion would very much satisfy their desire for mischief.

We don't know of gorilla wizards, but we do know of sasquatch ones, so it's not human exclusive.

It'd be incredibly petty of us, and definitely a huge waste of resources/time,
but I've got this idea stuck in my head about messing with seti/the world on this.

First step would be to use the crown to learn more and more about a particular civilization, then use them and their media as the basis for entertainment here.

Cyber devils making games that are set in their world, maybe hiring some decent ghost writers to put together stories, table tops, fun extras like 'IC' books on stuff like language or theology, the works.

Next, we spread it as far as we can, making money and leveraging the hyper realism of our "setting" to take significant market share from the various major sci-fi franchises.

Then we point SETI at signals from whichever species we're using. Which should ideally be one that's got enough on the airwaves to eventually be identifiable.

They'd finally find proof positive of alien life, and no one would ever believe it. :V

I think that the word that you are looking for is helpful not petty. Doesn't seem like it would be hard in terms of time or resources either. Those dishes aren't kept under anything that we would consider high security. The aren't exactly easy to steal.

Pointing in the right direction and using Molly's abilities to ease research would be helpful. If we by some miracle had a way to launder crown related information on the target that would be an incredibly valuable contribution to the work of anyone even tangentially involved.

The petty idea I was talking about was deliberately arranging profiteering schemes from our crown sourced knowledge so that by the time SETI or whoever actually finds something it gets treated like a hoax.

Imagine if you worked there and somehow picked up what sounds like a really garbled Klingon radio program. No matter how good your data was most people would think it was an elaborate prank.

I don't even know how you came to that conclusion. My idea was having the Cyberdevil help in all sorts of denyable ways.
