That is clearly a nautilus-totem. You can tell by the wedge and the shell, as well as the arrangement of arms around the head.

I like Exalted, but I'm not super into Lunars. Why should I be excited for this? (Genuinely asking, I'm considering backing, but am eh on the whole Lunars thing.)
I'm relatively 'eh' on Lunars in general, liking the idea of a shapeshifting hero but never really getting taken in my the implementation. While the glossary mentions the sacred hunt/heart blood which I find squicky and The tell, which I dislike, everything else has been quite good, finally presenting a canon picture of Lunars I find to be actually interesting.

Once more I wish Kickstarter took PayPal. Will have to put it on a family member's card and pay them back which is so annoying. The looks of incomprehension when I try to explain what it is I'm backing is not pleasant.

... Okay now I'm curious, I don't see it. It's like staring at the vase illusion and totally failing to see the faces; I know there's supposed to be something there but it's completely going over my head.
Me using the example of the lunar right after the solar, especially with the word "buy" in there, leads to really unfortunate connotations,

I read nautilus. I thought nautilus. I wrote cuttlefish?! I shouldn't post near 3am.

Thank you for the correction. The nautilus is far too cool a species to be overlooked.

So, general question about the third edition so far. How essential is the core book? The reward tiers are kind of confusing, and I'm wondering what's the value on the 20 dollar price difference between the tier with just the pdf and many faced strangers, and the one that has that and a copy of the core.

Can you use splatbooks mostly on their own, if you're not using solars in a game, say? I think that wasn't really true in past editions.

The Corebook doesn't just contain Solar mechanics, it also contains the rules for all the other Exalt types. I mean, you can have a game without Solars, if that's what you mean, but the Corebook is mandatory for anything 3E related even if you're not using any of the Solar specific stuff.

why settle for spending your xp on making friends with a bunch of Tyrant Lizards, when you could instead spend your xp on being a bunch of tyrant lizards?

Because the plan is for both!

Tyrant Lizards pulling Chariots being driven by Tyrant Lizards that are pulling even bigger chariots driven by Moon Touched Tyrant lizards that...

Well you get the point!

tyrant lizards are bullshit, legendary size OP, @Manic Dogma is a big meanie who is all like "haha i'm a giant iguana with no arms, mantis style won't work," heck off, nerf now

also the army-routing roar is probably broken

ah yes, in that case I approve

why not just use moth style then?

Army Routing Rour was close to broken for a familiar, let alone for a player character.

Thinking about backing, does the preview PDF have the mechanics? Or hasn't it been released yet

I went for the "flying horror of wings and death" angle myself, but Tyrant Wizard is too good a pun to pass up.

Last game I remember being excited for, I played a sorcerer general who rode everywhere on her Tyrant Lizard familar.

With Lunars, I should hopefully be able to skip the familiar part!

I dunno, I feel like a clearly superior tactic, given all the marsupials the core book gave us, would be to turn into an emperor sloth and then shove your Solar into your pouch as you charge into battle.

Rather than being rider and mount, have them get some Thrown or Archery Charms, and be turret and tank instead. :V

And MHS is no longer super duper evil.

I like how Ma-Ha-Suchi seems to like Anja Silverclaws the best, even though Anja barely gives a fuck about Ma-Ha-Suchi in comparison to all the other younger Lunars, who seem to hero worship him.

"You're the only one here not trying to fuck me, Anja. Respect. :|"

Also yeah while Raksi is still batty and tyrannical, she's at least savvier and isn't motivated solely by senseless cruelty or spite. The territories under her control seem to consider her a net good because she tosses out Sorcerous Workings on their behalf rather generously, but it really seems like she's not so much pretending to be insane so much as overplaying an already underlying madness.

The Thousand Fangs Army Total Control Zone is a pretty good name though, and it is now the ambition of my PCs to top that.
