Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

Steel gleams in his hand. A knife, one of the dozens he has secreted throughout the house.

Tokei moves faster than you've ever seen, knife gleaming terribly in his hand. Mother pushes you back again, harder, sending you stumbling towards the door. She stands between you and Tokei like a wall before a bull. "I will not allow this!" she yells-

He is currently not armed.

Did you read the same update I did?

Hmm, what is the stance regarding a "Game Over"? Do we get the opportunity to try again, do we revert to an earlier save, do we start over entirely? Additionally, do we get to keep our Statistical progress or does that get reset too?

[X] You must protect your mom, everything Gai-sensei has taught you has been for a moment like this. You can't beat Tokei, but you can buy time for surrounding ninja to help. Lure him outside, where there is more space, and try to be loud and boisterous to attract surrounding ninja. Engage in evasive maneuvers.

Hmm. On one hand death sucks, but on the other hand this is also the best time to die. We have not gotten far at all.

If we die we'll see how the game works after death and if we win, we win.

So why not try to fight him?

How many updates would we need to get back to the same spot, if we choose to do that? We'll be better prepared, we'd atleast get a thousand strikes on Mr Straw before the boss fight.

And if there's any trouble, there's always a shinobi somewhere within earshot. You're fairly sure that if you ever do something wrong there'll be a full report on it attached to the refrigerator before you're even done doing it.
There is always a Shinobi with in ear shot. This seems obviously our best chance to win. Since i want to reiterate we are a 5 year old trying to take on a trained samurai.
What does that mean? We need to make sure a ninja hears us. We also need to survive long enough for them to get here, and we need to protect our mom to maintain our theme of protecting her. Going outside gives us more room to dodge. Still a shit situation but it's the best we can do.

So basically... "Don't die, ever, unless you wanna redo everything" is the safer thing to assume, because we've barely begun anyways & there's no way we'll successfully repeat this chain of events because the same votes likely wouldn't win again.

[X] You're the one he wants! Draw Tokei upstairs! There has to be something you can use to defeat him there!

Gai left a while ago and Tokei has to kill us before the form is delivered. Draw him upstairs, let mom go out for help.

Hrmmm... while the fight votes do have a point and narrative is important t could I convince you guys to add something to your votes no matter what wins? Try screaming our head off for help. Or yell that there is a fire.. Even if there are no ninja around I believe it would at least alert other people. And they might be able to get a ninja if we stall Tokei long enough.

Would either of you consider switching to this?

[X] Grab Tokei's sword, and start running up the stairs. When he gets close, launch yourself backwards and try stabbing the Samurai. When you hit the floor, throw yourself away from the stairs and run for help. If he grabs you, fight as hard as you can and don't be afraid of dirty tricks.

It is similar to drawing Tokei upstairs, but uses the fact that we can take his sword to give us something to defeat him with, and should put us in a good position to damage him, should he come for us.

We can also ask Mom to scream for help instead of rushing the samurai. Grabbing the sword might be good but it loses us time, especially since actually unsheathing it quickly is probably beyond us.

What do you guys to hope to find upstairs? i'm not quite sure what's the plan here. When your fighting someone with a knife, i think close quarters is what were trying to avoid.

Our Taijutsu is Practiced at 250/400 and our Kenjutsu is untrained at 0/200. Grabbing the sword does not seem like the best option.

I suggest we tell mom to go look for help and then draw Tokei upstairs.

Hmm... Win by deliberately letting someone steal our Tokei kill, or somehow legitimately win & probably get more rewards (like an Achievement for defeating a Boss notably stronger than us)...

Welp, I know I wouldn't be convincing if I tried my own vote, so I'll just let everyone else decide how this goes down. Still, considering the repercussions of the way we win is kind of important. "Survived sudden turncoat" and "Killed sudden turncoat as a kid" would have very different impacts on people.

If we tell her to go look for help Tokei might just assume she'll do that and kill her. I'm not sure that's a good idea.

And sure, sword technique might not have any training, but sticking a person with the pointy end of a deadly weapon is still pretty easily able to kill a man. We don't need to be flashy or cool, we just need to be lethal.
