Game of the Year: A Naruto Quest

Wouldn't Daisuke's Superhuman Strength make it really easy for him to bite through his tongue?

Not exactly the toughest part to begin with, and missing a chunk of his tongue would be problematic.

As someone who has had their teeth sticking through their tongue in the past...
With proper medical attention, he'll get over it.
(If you care, it was my two front teeth, all the way through the bottom like the worst piercing ever.)

He has superhuman intelligence to prevent this scenario.

Mean, the vote is explicitly calling for Daisuke to bite his tongue hard enough to break from the Genjutsu. Intelligence only helps so much when intentionally inflicting self-harm.

----

Okay, so, there's an Omake idea I've been considering and really want to see. However, I don't think I could do it justice, so the proposal: an Omake focused around Daisuke's brother Kera.

Specifically, something that builds off of Secret Sibling and Files of The Daimyo of Iron: Kera's attempts to become strong enough to meet his brother, but struggling with his less-than-stellar Samurai talent.

Overall, I'm fond of the idea of Kera being a Samurai with Ninja-trappings to contrast Daisuke, being a Ninja with Samurai trappings. More specifically, I could see Kera developing some combat pragmatist tendencies, as a result of him compensating for his training difficulties.

Yet the main element I wanted to pitch is Kera accidentally or intentionally unlocking Nature Transformation, combining it with the Samurai Sabre Technique and training in secret- so people don't find out his budding Ninja talent.

I also imagine Kera would of poked around and researched, to find out whatever he could regarding Daisuke and Konoha. Could probably go with an approach, where Kera accidentally discovered Nature Transformation but went all-in so he'd have proof he means Daisuke no harm.

Ultimately though, I just really want to see an omake regarding present!Kera who still wants to meet his brother and has begun (accidentally or intentionally) dabbling with being a Samurai-Ninja.

EDIT: Regarding Kera's Nature Affinity, it could be either Earth (thus advantage to Daisuke's Water) or Fire (thus disadvantage). For the really brilliant choice though, it could be Wind- thus Daisuke and Kera's co-op attacks would essentially be Ice & therefore harking back to the Land of Iron.

Kairi failing makes me sad yet imagining how she failed makes me happy.

Quit toying with me Vesvius! I'm on a tilt-a-whirl of emotions!

Kinda wished Mariko had stayed just full no reason asshole, but at the same time I'm liking the little tidbits we're finding out about her, like her board game hobby. I still don't get why she was such an asshole though, my guess is social status stuff but that's always a weak excuse in my opinion unless you're dealing with people who actually run high level groups/establishments.
Also my guess is that the powder she used was probably some type of hallucinogenic or paralytic which is why we weren't able to dispel the genjutsu fully, kinda looking forward to finding out what exactly it does cause if it causes us to see shit like this we gotta get some of our own supply.

My current running theory is that she's taken the whole social conflict a lot more personally than Daisuke has and assumes that his motivations primarily involve screwing her over. A sort of "Protagonist Syndrome" if you would, where she assumes that the world revolves around her. It's really not that uncommon for people in general, let alone children.

Yeah, I don't think dispelling the Genjutsu by conventional means will work here. We either need to break it through unconventional means or let it play through to see what Kurenai wants from this.

Some ideas:
I can see him using deception in the more classical sense. Mindgames, bluffs, and fakeouts padding out his kenjutsu. In the process of developing this I imagine he's gotten to Pinnacle Wits (and possibly Empathy). In general, while his stats lag behind Dai, he's probably skill heavy with a good set of traits/perks focused on his shticks.

Besides stumbling his way into nature manipulation, he might have some sort of crude proto-fuuinjutsu thing going on. Speaking of nature manipulation, if we're going all in with the "they should have been born as the other" thematics, why not give him all three of those nature affinities?

Oh, and much like the ninja did (IIRC) he could steal and adapt techniques from everything (from monks to carpenters to artists to farmers) to supplement his fighting.

[X] Plan: Don't buy in, but don't be stupid
-[X] You know this is a genjutsu. You know that Kurenai is a mistress of genjutsu, so it is no surprise she'd go with this as a test. It's likely how you feel is genjutsu too. Don't let it unman you.
-[X] Try biting your tongue to break out of the genjutsu. Don't choke on the blood though.
-[X] At the same time, 'Tokei' may be Kurenai in henge and this may be more complicated than it seems. Go into an unarmed defense to ward off attacks from Tokei, but limit yourself so that you aren't attacking your teammates, while trying to find flaws in Tokei's portrayal.
    [X] Plan: Calm Analytics
-[X] You know this is a genjutsu. You know that Kurenai is a mistress of genjutsu, so it is no surprise that you can't escape it. Calm yourself, you know this is all a fake.
-[X] You are not the little boy that was helpless back then, be confident in what you accomplished, and try to endure the trauma.
-[X] The quest log only confirms that Kurenai has started to attack your group, and it tells you to survive, not fight or win. So the winning condition is to last long enough.
-[X] Try to break the genjutsu with more Chakra, but otherwise, trust in your teammates to break it for you, and don't panic.
-[X] Go into an unarmed defense only to ward off attacks from Tokei, but limit yourself so that you aren't attacking your teammates.
[X] This is still an illusion! If Chakra doesn't work, pain might do the trick! Bite your tongue hard.
[X] Tokei has a sword, but so do you! You've killed him before; you can do it again.
[X] This is still an illusion! You know it! You just need to break it! Pump even more chakra into your dispelling technique and escape it!
[X] This moment has haunted you the last seven years. Hidden from thought, its shadow clings to you. Is it any wonder how you move here, foolish as it may be? Attempt to disarm him and knock him unconscious.
[X] Sit down, Close your eyes, and relax. This is a dead man, a man you killed. Just... Wait.
[X] Try and plug your nose with what ever you have to hand, in the meanwhile defend yourself from Tokei, when you have a moment that won't risk you getting skewered by Tokei try and break the illusion again, using a combination of Chakra and pain.
[X] Duel this mad figment of the worst moment of your life. Before you were barely able to hold a sword, now you've become an Expert at Kenjutsu. Focus on making sure he can't harm you and ignore his words.
[X] Yell for the guards, play for time.
[X] Challenge your shadow to a verbal duel. Talk him down. Disarm him with words. Convince him to blame himself and seek our forgiveness. He should have protected us, he should have taught us the right way. Instead of teaching us the samurai way, right under his nose he let a ninja teach us. He should be apologizing to us, instead of trying to kill us to hide his failures.
[X] This is still an illusion! If Chakra doesn't work, pain might do the trick! Bite your lip hard.
[X] This is still an illusion! If Chakra doesn't work, pain might do the trick! Bite your tongue hard.
-[X] If that doesn't work, fight to incapacitate Tokei non-lethally

Oh, and much like the ninja did (IIRC) he could steal and adapt techniques from everything (from monks to carpenters to artists to farmers) to supplement his fighting.

I could see his combat pragmatism having began during a particularly frustrating lesson/spar, being something he wasn't quite intentionally trying. Yet the effectiveness keeps him coming back, and being more subtle & sneaky to avoid getting reprimanded for fighting "wrong".

He probably would need high Wits with all the sneaking around, and his high Empathy could of began regarding Daisuke yet gradually snowballed he doesn't even notice his empatheic nature is unusually high.

Maybe his "crude proto-fuinjutsu" is a unique version of storage seals he developed? I'm not entirely sure how he'd manage, other than using his status and connections to get material on non-Samurai Chakra applications.

Regarding Nature Affinities... I could see him attempting to manage all five, only to discover it is much harder than he realized. So his natural Affinity could be his best, or he could be oblivious that's a thing & thinks the Nature he favors is his real affinity.

To tag in on this quickly, I like the idea that he actually can channel all five. Not because he's a natural prodigy or anything, he's not, but because he doesn't know he's not supposed to be able to do all of them. So he just keeps trying at the others and really not understanding why they're so much harder than his affinity element, and eventually he manages it and is suuuuuuuuper proud of himself, but at the same time can't help thinking how much easier it'd have been if he'd had a proper shinobi teacher. Why, I bet they learn all five immediately at school! Gods, I'm so far behiiiiiiiiiind...

And then he fights actual ninja and fucking wastes them because five elements and they have no idea how the HELL he pulled that off.

Oh god, Achievements in Ignorance... No way Ves would let Kera have all five so early, but I could see it as a Shippuden thing. Like, either post-skip or mid plotline with him learning the 2/3 he lacked previously, with actual Sagey being late Shippuden.

I find that the most amusing personally, but him not sticking with a single element is kind of the idea. Him using at least two shows the variability you would expect of a jounin not a samurai.

Yeah I think two elements would work, just that he obliviously underuses his Affinity to harken to the fact he isn't a proper Ninja. So in general, I like the idea he has all this misconceptions and assumptions resulting in his self-developed Ninja style being unorthodox.

Now if only someone would make an omake from all this, I can't really write politics so I would have to work around all the interesting social stuff.

So I've been playing a lot of persona recently, and the topic came up in discord chat. I figured, why not?

Last time on Game of the Year:
You take a step back automatically, feeling the wall brushing against your back. It takes a second for that to sink in- you can move! And as your hands fall to your waist, you realize that your sword, the exact duplicate of the blade in Tokei's hands, still hangs from your waist.

A monster stands before you
You swallow heavily as you face down your once-guardian, the knowledge that this is probably an illusion holds no comfort.
He is stronger than you, faster than you, greater than you.
Whatever Tokei sees in your face causes him to sneer, "Cowardice is unbecoming of you, at least face your death with a measure of dignity."
Will you falter?
You glare up at the samurai. He's right, in a twisted way, fear will not avail you here.
No?
Your hand steadies as it drops to the hilt of the sword at your waist.
Then grasp your blade.
The Watchman looms over you, blade in hand and death in his eyes, and he is not alone.
The monster is not alone.
Behind him lay a veritable army of your foes, and as memories new and old mix, you catch glimpses of many faces etched in hate.
He is but the first of many who shall seek your downfall.
An imperious lord, long of hair and sharp of features sneers down at you in contempt.
You face those who see you as nothing but a contemptible mistake.
A kindly grandmother morphs into a monster as her eyes dissect you, looking for weakness.
You face the cruelty of this world given form.
A venerable swordsman glares at you, his face set in grim resolve.
And you face the men sworn to defend it.
The faces come faster now, a too-pale man with pupils slit like a snake, a puppet pulling its own strings, a single purple eye surrounded by a dozen concentric circles, a black specter made of vengeance and hate.
If you will not cower before this onslaught, you have but one choice
You breathe in and shut them out as your hand clenches Tokei's - no, your - sword.
Draw your weapon,
For now, there is only one foe you must overcome.
And declare WAR!
As you unsheathe your blade your shadow, painted on the wall behind you, erupts.

Tokei strikes at you, his blade moving faster than your eyes can track.

You begin to raise your blade, but you can already tell it'll be too slow.

Is this how you die?

Inches away from you the blade stops and reverses course, as both it and its wielder are blown away by the fist of an angry god.

I AM MASAMUNE, THE ONE-EYED DRAGON.

You turn around to get a look at your savior, only to do a double take as you take in the tableau.

Where before there was only a wall and your shadow, now lies a swathe of destruction presided over by a kneeling horned samurai.

I AM THE WARRIOR'S SOUL THAT RESIDES WITHIN YOU.

You look up at the samurai-spirit's face, it is covered entirely, except for one baleful red eye glaring down at you.

SHOW ME YOUR VALOR, AND I SHALL GRANT YOU THE POWER TO ENSURE YOU ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN.

You turn away from that baleful glare, and see Tokei picking himself up off the ground.

Before you stands a man who would have killed you. Who would have rendered your training with Gai-Sensei meaningless. Who would have severed your budding friendship with Ino before it could even begin. Who would have murdered your mother, had you not stopped him.

He is but the first of many who would destroy you and everything you cherish.

Who would render your existence pointless.

DO YOU ACCEPT MY OFFER?

"Yeah. We've got a deal." You say as you firm your resolve to face your would-be assassin once more.

THEN RAISE YOUR BLADE, AND LET THE WORLD TREMBLE IN YOUR WAKE!

"That," you say as your lips split into a savage grin. "Sounds like a plan."

Nice stuff! Take 40 XP!

Also, with no further votes, we have reached the deadline. Vote closed.

Now that i think about it, we might have to worry about assasination from iron after konoha crush. Konoha would be leaderless, lose lots of their forces, lose their allies (Tsuna), and have their village in wreckage. From iron's noble POV, it would be a prime time to kill us with minimal retaliation from konoha since they gonna think konoha can't afford to antagonize another village from just the death of a single genin. What konoha will actually do doesn't matter.

Can I chip in? It's a fairly minor thing, but maybe make it a Negaverse omake?

Like a What-If? Mean, I do want the Kera in-story to be like this, since it'd make for really cool interactions later between Daisuke and Kera. Like the whole "having Wind Chakra" would let the two perform a Sibling Combo Attack where they fake Ice Release. Like, they both fire their respective Sword Beam and it explodes into a sphere of cold & snow.

Maybe a What-If regarding Kera managing to sneak his way into the Chunin Exam in disguise? That definitely won't happen in-story, yet it would certainly have omake potential.
