Also, Kurenai is not that bad. She is the only jonin in canon that we know actually trained her team: Asuma is only shown playing games with Shika, Kakashi teaches only if they would die otherwise and we only see Gai training Lee. Though to be fair, we do see his team train in the same grounds at the same time so he probably does train them all. Anyways, out of the 3 jonin we see this year, she is the one who seems to focus the most in training her team.
Gai explicitly trains all his team. In Shippuden Ep 237 Tenten even remembered that he wanted to give her the Turtle Summons, but couldn't because she seriously offended Ningame by saying he wasn't as cool as Tsunade's summons.

He's trained her in nunchuks and summoning weaponry too, we see him spar with her.

Though, Gai is probably the best jonin for actually teaching and generally being competent. Some side materials really gave life to him. It's a pity we didn't have the chance to graduate early and try to get his team.

Edit: Like seriously, do people think that without us Ino is nothing or something.
I'm personally of the opinion is that it's so they can help each other. Ino has to deal with she not being paired with her best friend. Seriously, we're her Ino Shika Cho. Or, I suppose in this case. Her Ino Dai

And also so Ino can help us because we got paired with Mariko.

Friendship goes both ways and we both need to vent.

Wow, your argument is both intelligent and compelling, such notably in depth analysis of empathy and people, surely you must have many friends who you don't mistreat, because you so obviously care about people's feelings. Furthermore you actually seem to have read what I wrote in my comments, unlike many who in comparison to you just ignored most of it and then started being insulting.

Sorry if I sounded like a dick there. But I would suggest not commenting in such a fashion. I will leave it here if you do. But I would rather you don't try and start something like thi-

Seriously dude.

Stop. Now.
The idea that Ino of all people can't handle time away from us is frankly insulting to her character. The idea that she is so dependent on Daisuke's presence that she'll break down or something without him is so wholly deserving of scorn that it deserves ridicule. Yes she's mad, but she'll get over it.

But yes. I do take joy in the salt generated by people like you and the others in this thread. :D

[X] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

Which always confused me. Why AREN'T there more benevolent genjutsu? Hell, why has no one tried time compression before like Tsukiyomi? The amount you could do with time compression is insane. Not to mention stuff like Therapy genjutsu and stuff.
No one has tried time compression like Tsukuyomi because Tsukuyomi is a Mangekyo Sharingan exclusive genjutsu. It can do things that other genjutsu just cannot do, at least at jounin / Kage skill levels.

I don't think Leaf bothers with Therapy genjutsu since Yamanaka ninjutsu works pretty much the same way and also has a whole clan of tradition standing behind it. We don't really see what goes on with other VIllages, so they may or may not have something like this.

Before you bring out the pitchforks, remember she's 12.

Ino isn't made of paper. The idea that Ino can't survive without us, that she can't cope, is arrogant and frankly sort of condescending to her. Like, I get it she is our friend and we should be there for her. But Ino is a tough cookie too. The concept that she is going to fall apart from this and that we absolutely need to be there for her or we are the worst friend ever is sort of ridiculous.

Edit: Like seriously, do people think that without us Ino is nothing or something.
...I really never suggested that and frankly would ask you to reread my earlier comments please, genuinely I mean no offence but I feel as though you missed the point somewhat.

She won't rip, she won't tear, she won't die, or cut ties. She will however hurt, and she is Daisuke's best friend and him leaving her whilst she's hurt will hurt more, leaving with Mariko will compound that hurt even further. She doesn't deserve that, frankly.

I believe that Daisuke owes it to Ino. She stood beside him and helped him time and again. Now she's hurting it's Daisuke's turn. He should help her let go, because otherwise this will be more difficult for her. I believe I called it a last hug before separation or something like that, I may be misremembering.

Furthermore Mariko will net us nothing, I believe, she's spent too long with a grudge, a very unhealthy and lengthy one at that and one further made more difficult with her inadequacy issues and Daisuke's number One status, and Daisuke himself has spent a long time with a lot of frustration and anger building up, at this point in time, feeling the frustration he does over Mariko, it's likely any interaction will only cause things to boil over into a fight before Kurenai even gets here (and can I just praise how effective this team could theoretically be under the instructions of someone like Kurenai, Yamanaka Genjutsu+Taijutsu, Tacker+Taijutsu and Taijutsu+Genjutsu+Kenjutsu can find the enemy, distract them, paralyse the enemy then tear them to pieces.).

Overall I think it's neglecting a friend for an option that will only do harm in my belief.

I apologise if you disagree, but I just feel as though it's throwing away time over something that won't help when we could be helping a friend move on to the next part of her life.

I'm hopeful Mariko ends up even more useless than Sakura, since she likely won't be able to keep up with our growth rate and is unlikely to get a mentor nearly as good as Tsunade.

I mean, yeah she hasn't done anything but her attitude is bad af. I know she'll probably have a tragic backstory that justifies her being a bitch (probably severe inferiority complex to Ino too), so we should exploit the chance to feel vengeful while we can.

I doubt it. Ves isn't Kishimoto who pretty much made his female characters flat, static existences throughout the story. So while she'll never have Tsunade's Strength of 100 or other such techniques like Sakura got, I'm sure Ves will develop her skills in whatever way works best for her. The big problem for us will be how to defuse the bomb that is Mariko or become Chunin before it goes off/to escape the blast radius.

Gai explicitly trains all his team. In Shippuden Ep 237 Tenten even remembered that he wanted to give her the Turtle Summons, but couldn't because she seriously offended Ningame by saying he wasn't as cool as Tsunade's summons.

Gai honestly is the best teacher we've seen in Naruto. The fact that we got to train under him, even if only for a little time, has been a massive help for us and perhaps has helped us a little in dealing with Tokei's death in a way. Really, if it wasn't for the Hyuuga's hidebound traditions, I'd have loved to see how he'd make Neji even more of a Taijutsu monster, even though Gai knows how to mimic the Gentle Fist to some degree.

The only way that could have been better is if somebody broke something they were holding when they got told their team.

[x] You may not like one of them, but you have a team now. You should make the best of it. Go find Kiba and Mariko, and have lunch.

Learning to work with people you don't like and people that don't like you is an essential life skill in real life and as a shinobi.

Can I just point out I have been calm and used logical arguments until you started insulting people for no reason, I can get perhaps going after someone else, but not in such a fashion and not someone who has been debating calmly and logically.

If you wish to generate salt, acting like a troll would do so, however I would ask that you stop both antagonising people for no reason, trolling in its entirety and accusing people who are not getting angry unless provoked, in my case by your unneeded trolling, of being salty.

So far I have had no salt today, it didn't go with the chicken I had for dinner.

Squirrely Bastards by Projectile
I haven't written an omake in a while, but I'm really into this quest so I'm glad to break that streak.

Daisuke Satomura was not a man prone to anger. He was, after all, only thirteen.

This time, the squirrels have gone too far. He flexed his arm; blood welled up from his wound and dripped onto his bed. As a genin in all but name, it was time to put childish grudges away. Feuding with squirrels was fine when he was a baby, but someone had to be the bigger mammal.

His dented fan lay next to the bloodstain; hardly irreparable, but some insults could not be unpunished.

They will die, he concluded. He patted his fan back into perfection, rose from his bed, strapped on his sword, and walked out the door. He had a plan.

Quest Acquired: Squirrely Bastards
Some may think you nutty. But you know the truth. Bury them.
Success Condition One: Discover the central tree of the Konoha Squirrels.
Success Condition Two: Destroy the central tree of the Konoha Squirrels.
Skill(s): Climb, Survival, Perception, Beastmastery, Kenjutsu.
On Success: Gain freedom from harassment. Skill Increase. Gain reputation with ???.
On Failure: Lose reputation with Konohagakure. Severity varies based on degree of failure.

Step 1: Arouse no suspicion.

"Goodbye, mother." Daisuke marched past Manami, who was reading and reclining on a couch. "I must train," he informed her, exactly as he did every day.

"You leave those poor squirrels alone," Manami said, without moving her eyes from her book.

Step 1: Failure. That wasn't a real step anyway.

Daisuke opened the front door and framed himself dramatically within. "This is a matter of honor."

"May you find your peace." Manami was always supportive of her son's hobbies. He departed, closing the door.

Konoha was a bustling place, even in the evening. The distant patter of footsteps was omnipresent, sussurating whispers from distant conversations provided background noise, but Daisuke had ears only for the chittering of squirrels.

Like the noise produced by the patchy-furred miscreant not a yard from his doorstep.

Daisuke brought his fan to his sword, and overwhelmed the sound with a tone of discord. He imbued his chakra with the emotion of fucking die.

Daisuke quickly realized that, in his previous indolence, he had neglected to discover the his enemies' stronghold, and that, in his current rage, he had killed the nearest source of information.

He picked up the corpse regardless. Surely someone knew where the squirrels lurked. But who could he trust?

It was a foolish question. Daisuke was in the minority, but he was far from the only one to recognize the threat posed by the squirrels.

He stalked towards Kiba's house.

XXXXX

As it happened, Kiba and Akamaru were too busy to hunt squirrels. Daisuke would not have allowed this to deter him, but he had a better option.

The Haimaru triplets were passing papers to Hana Inuzuka, who was rapidly scribbling on them before one of her companions took them and sorted them into piles.

"Hello, Hana, you look enchanting today," Daisuke said, brandishing the dead squirrel. "Unfortunately, I don't have time to chat, because squirrels have to die."

Dog D, Dog O, and Dog G erupted. Daisuke, with his shamefully low Beastmastery skill, could not understand their frantic barks.

Hana sighed. "They want to know where the squirrels are. You shouldn't have riled them up like that, you know. I don't have the time for this."

Unlike his Beastmastery, Daisuke's Sense Motive was more developed. "I will take care of your grunt work for a day if you let me borrow your nose to find the Squirrel Tree."

"Two."

"Done."

"Nose is my middle… well, nose is my name," Hana replied. "But the squirrel tree, as every pup knows, is in the center of the village. Go straight from here, take a right at Keiko's Kunai, if you reach that pork place you've gone too far."

After a quick barkument, Dog O gently dropped a paper on a pile and turned to Daisuke. "This one will come with you." To the dog, Hana said, "Don't ruin your dinner."

"Thank you, light of my life."

Dog O saluted, before rushing out of the room. Daisuke followed.

XXXXX

That the Central Squirrel Tree was not the largest in Konoha was due only to the overabundance of massive trees in the village. Daisuke and Dog O silently watched as furry bastards pranced up and down the trunk with precise coordination.

"Why has no one destroyed them, yet?" Daisuke asked.

Dog O grunted, before kicking a clod of dirt at the tree and shoving the human aside. Immediately, a barrage of acorns, pebbles, and garbage obliterated their previous position.

"This is going to take some work," Daisuke said. He would definitely have to stake out the tree for a while, and there were simply too many powerful squirrel archers for him to take alone.

"How many soldiers can we round up, do you think?"

Revenge was a dish best served cold, Daisuke told himself, and puppies were the best waiters.

He really is. Strong enough to protect his team, gives a damn to actually teach them, actually really insightful. He's like the best traits of the other jonin combined. Gai is 10/10 best jonin in konoha.

[X] There must be some mistake. Go talk to Iruka-sensei now, and try and change his mind! He's always listened to you in the past before. This time will be no different.

Screw being "professional" this bitch is crazy.
Hiruzen has gone senile if he thinks this is a good idea.

He spars with Neji a lot, which is probably the only thing Neji needed. I mean, extra physical strength isn't really a big priority for Gentle Fist seeing as how it is a one hit kill anyway. Neji is enough of a genius that he'll find the best techniques on his own.

This seems to have worked well, since Neji was the only member of Team 10 that ended up becoming a jonin in Shippuden before his untimely death.

I'm pretty sad that we won't have the time to train with him now. Kurenai's nice and all, but there is a real charm to Gai sensei that no jonin can replace.

Divine Chakra Adhesion by FourmyleOfCeres
@Vesvius

If I get any XP from this, top off Willpower(which should help with dealing with Mariko) and put the overflow into Taijutsu.

Divine Chakra Adhesion/Repulsion

You dimly remember a story from a past life. It was supposed to be a tale of the impossible, spoken by a Nobleman who never achieved much. His tales of impossible animals and wondrous travels were intentionally inconsistent, a joke. And here you are, recreating one of his most famous trips.

The Nobleman used an cannonball. You weren't so pedestrian. No, you were currently standing with one foot on a rocket, the other ready to catch another one if need be. You had thirty seconds until your ride exploded, but the celebration would go on for at least another hour. Plenty of rockets to catch. Besides, in twenty seconds you'd be over the target.

Shinobi umbrellas are heavy things, and not often used in your village. Hidden swords, more senbon than you can shake a stick at... No, not for you. Yours is a proper black dome umbrella, ninety one and a half centimeters in diameter, with a shaft eighty four centimeters in length. There was nothing really special about it, aside from the fact that it was yours. And that it was made from the finest silk the Aburame Clan had to offer. Despite this, people spoke of it as though it were a legendary weapon. The Umbrella of the Wind. Even if the peacock head was cute, if it ever broke, you'd just get a new-one. You had to before.

You stepped off the rocket and charged the umbrella with your chakra as you opened it. It caught more than it's fair share of wind, and cushioned your fall. You drifted as a leaf on the wind, except with considerably more control. This wasn't particularly difficult, if you were honest. The hard part was taking off from the ground. Your unparalleled control of your chakra allowed you do things usually left to spiders. Like flight. It took so much energy to attain lift, but it was doable.

You caught the edge of the tower with a foot and walk along it for a moment, putting away your umbrella. This was a terror mission, of sorts. Assassinate a businessman, ensure that his associates never cheat Konohagakure again. And make everyone else aware that no one was safe. As far as the man's inner-circle was concerned, there would be no survivors. This included the body guards.

Most shinobi disliked tight corridors, but you had learned to love them. Likely the same day that gravity ceased to matter to you. Obstructions ceased to matter, really. The wall was the same as the floor and the ceiling more-so. Even your fellow shinobi don't think to look up, and it's trivial to reach down and lop their heads off if they're not paying attention. Not that you always bothered. A kunai launched with your chakra alone could easily pass all the way through a person.

Really, you were killing time as well as cannon fodder. You wanted people to know what was coming, even as you charged down hallways, across ceilings, and up walls. He was going to know fear before he died.

You almost felt bad for the ones you actually had to touch. One got within arm's reach, and you gently put a hand on his face. Palm open, it would have looked tender if it weren't for what happened next. The Hyūga are known for injecting small amounts of their own chakra into their foes to create severe internal damage. You could probably do that. Instead you, you simply attracted his to yours. You glued his skin to your own, the way you'd glue yourself to the wall. And then you began to move.

The screaming man became almost a part of you before his skin ripped off. His neck broke soon after, so it wasn't as cruel as it could have been. But anyone who found the body would know. If anyone found the body. His friends weren't much luckier, really. The Taijutsu specialists had it worst, as touching you meant either you bound them to you, or you violently disrupted the limb. Neither was pretty.

Finally, you got to the room you were looking for. You knew, because your gentle knock was answered with a hail of bullets. Spendy toys, guns. Still, they were aiming for someone standing on the floor, not the ceiling. You let yourself in once the gunfire stopped. It takes so long to reload...

You pounced through the smoke, and laid hand on the desk. While you could likely have picked up the entire thing, that wasn't your plan. The papers on it slid violently toward you, attracted like iron filings to a magnet. They slid into shape, forming a blade. You raked it across where your target should be. The chakra infused paper sword, only five microns thick and hard as steel, sliced into something, but you knew it was not the man.

You willed the smoke away with a fluctuation of chakra. As you'd suspected, you were surrounded. Your target laughed behind you. "Even you cannot win against my strategy! You never should have come alone!"

You laughed as well. "I didn't."

Outside, the fireworks reached their climax. The building shook, and began to rise. The big finish was about to start. The explosion that rocked the building caused the ground to heave and everyone but you to stumble. The floors cracked. The target was the first to die. The others tried to escape, but you chased them. The falling rubble was as easy to traverse as the stairs, even as you bounced and spun. Gravity hadn't really mattered for years. You gathered loose paper, ever expanding your whip.

The floor became the walls as the building tipped to the side, and still you strode through it as though it were another day at the office. The last man had a Human Kite sealed away. Feeling playful, you used the papers you had been gathering and flew after him. The dust blinded him, but did nothing to you. He dropped into the reservoir, and you followed.

Water was as easy as anything else. Easier, really. You just propelled yourself along, swimming faster than anything had the right too. He didn't last long.

And when you came out the other side, you weren't even wet. The Umbrella of the Wind carried you back to the meeting point, where you greeted Mariko with a smile. "Nice work with the explosives. I couldn't have done it without you!"

Somehow, despite the years you'd hated each other, you'd become close. Then again, what else should be expected of the God of Attraction?

[X] Ino does not look happy. She needs you now. Go find her before she gets too far away.

Superhuman Charisma & Empathy would seriously help here, even just one should make a difference.

He spars with Neji a lot, which is probably the only thing Neji needed. I mean, extra physical strength isn't really a big priority for Gentle Fist seeing as how it is a one hit kill anyway. Neji is enough of a genius that he'll find the best techniques on his own.

Well, yeah. but I'd have loved to see Neji use some throws, locks, some kicks, and stuff to enhance his Gentle Fist. I mean, every enemy ninja out there knows of the Gentle Fist and stronger nins can avoid it, so why not mix it up? The Hyuugas can use pretty much all tenketsus with their chakra, so take advantage of that FFS! I mean, they can also attack the organs directly and shut them down and kill them, yet they go for the tenketsus of the opponents more. Honestly, they have so much that they can do, it's kinda a waste to limit it to just the Gentle Fist.

Oh yeah - I see people are going full into Willpower, and while it is important to restrain ourselves I think Empathy's probably a good decision too?

I mean, we don't just want to stop ourselves from hitting Mariko. We have to work with her too, which necessitates understanding her feelings and working out why her hate exists so we can counter it. Especially if we want to spend this vote on being with her. Plus all my previous arguments on how it'll improve our genjutsu.
