Dungeon Crawler You!

The ability to find and save crawlers this floor will scale and pay off in future floors. Each one will get the chance to continue leveling, use their abilities to push all the rest of us higher. Sysop is a co-operative class, we can do more, coordinate more with more people in our network. It's not crushing bosses, but the people we can get to and help are our power.

And it really doesn't hurt that Seeing Eye Dog helps with mob info, traps, stairwells, treasure, and secrets.

I've been catching up on comments after being way behind and there is one thing in particular which I am confused about. What is the problem with processing loot boxes for others with Sysop + Wheeler Dealer just to train the skill? I understand that you have to open loot boxes to roll them up and that you have to roll up all boxes currently in your inventory. However, I know of no rule which says that the crawler who opens a box has to be the one who keeps the loot. In canon, people give away or trade loot frequently after getting it out of a loot box. So, I think the tactic is to make deals with other parties first to train up the skill and then process our own loot later. This is mutually beneficial with the other parties since they get the benefit of the roll up and we get grinding of the skill.

So the procedure would be:

1. Calliope starts with no loot boxes (either open existing ones or transfer them out).
2. Use Sysop to transfer a specific set of boxes to Calliope.
3. She rolls them up and opens them.
4. She gives the resulting loot back to the source of the boxes.

This does mean that we would have to avoid mixing boxes from different crawlers. For example, suppose that we get four bronze from one crawler and four from another, then who gets the contents of the resulting single silver box? We could still mix boxes from different crawlers within a party so long as they agree to be collectively responsible for distributing the loot after the fact.

However, I know of no rule which says that the crawler who opens a box has to be the one who keeps the loot.
AI might not like it.

The principle problem I see is loot customization: a silver box is a silver box, probably, so we should do that whenever we can, but gold and higher I'd expect to get gear that's specced for Leo if she opens them. Do you want two gold boxes with stuff the AI picked for you, or one platinum with stuff it picked for someone else? It's not clear to me that the answers would always be the platinum box.

I think the issue is that the loot would be things that are good for Leo. If we find someone with a similar build it could work, but there's a chance she gets stuff with restrictions like "only works on catkin" or something.

I have never in my life wanted more to know more about a person in a music video.

As far as I recall the last season of Crazy-Ex Girlfriend, which is uh, dimly... he's Tucker, the surprise half brother of the main character who shows up one day because he wants her to take him to an audition and his parents won't let him. (The audition does not go super well at convincing the judges he wants to be a singer for the right reasons, as you can see from the video.) It's extra poignant because the main character, Rebecca, sings constantly in her daydreams but never in real life - the show is a musical but all the songs are kinda Scrubs-like interludes about something going on in the plot or how a character is feeling - and meeting him eventually makes her realise she wants to be a singer. Which for her is kind of part of getting over lots of false starts thinking she has to live for other people, etc..

Honestly Crazy-Ex Girlfriend was not a show I was expecting to enjoy as much as I did when I was introduced to it, but it's pretty great.

Once more EagleJarl gets to decide a class because of a tie, this is only a thing because people can't choose to keep their votes the same....

I seriously considered changing my vote specifically to make it not a tie, but I genuinely didn't know which of the other two classes to support. Seriously, I wasn't kidding when I said I'd be happy with literally any of Moose's options.

Sorry, didn't see your comment before close. If it any Help: I already did without a trade.
That's funny, because I also did my part without a deal.

On a different note, should we try to consolidate our Silver Earth Boxes if we get four of them? We've got enough people in our contacts that we can figure out what they do.

I'd like people to consider taking Battlin' Baker for Drew next level. (Please append 'If we're lucky,' to many of the following sentences.) Next level is when we buy a personal space. Drew gets one at Level 3 with that class. As it is an actual space or a coupon, I expect we can keep it. Those normally cost hundreds of thousands of gold, so either getting a level 3 space for free or adding it to a bought personal space is completely worth it. It comes with an Industrial Kitchen upgrade, which I assume is an excellent crafting table- which will level each time we go down a floor. Also an actual thing, space or coupon.

It comes with a recipe book including recipes for explosive muffins and Superior-grade temp stat boost cookies. We'll get to keep that, or copy it. It comes with an oven to bake in the field. We might not get to keep that. Two more coupons for Kitchen upgrades. The Marketplace upgrade, not that I really get how good that's going to be, but if an option allows us to access it from a distance for 5,000 gold, I expect it to be at least that good. We'll keep that. The Marketplace: Food unlock. If we buy it, we can keep it.Then there's
The Care Package benefit. Allows you to send a box of baked goods to the inventory of any crawler you have in your contacts list. Requires 1,000 gold worth of postage. Postage may be paid by sender or recipient but not split between them.
That's an incredible combo with SysOp's roided-out contacts list, I was hoping to copy this ability, salivating at our enhanced ability to help other crawlers-- but Sysop already comes with the ability to share inventory between two crawlers. No postage required.

I think the chance to get an extra three levels to our personal space when we buy it, plus all the other goodies we'll get to keep, is worth putting off the other class potentials for a level.

The reason it's worth talking about now is because we're about to decide what to do with the Invulnerabilty spellbook. Do we give it to Taylor or Drew? Drew's got a good chance at getting the Create Spellbook spell if he takes Mystic Scholar, meaning he'd be able to copy Invulnerabilty to others. Also, Taylor won't have Sysop this level, meaning it's not clearly superior to give Invulnerabilty to him now.

If we take the chance of getting the Personal Space over the chance of getting the Create Spellbook spell next level, we'll have to wait until the fifth floor to get a copy. I think what we should do instead is give Drew Invulnerabilty, then go buy a Create Spellbook scroll to copy it to Taylor as soon as we can. No waiting until the next floor or the one after that. We've got reason to believe someone's selling a lot of them this floor.

Edit: All Mystic Scholars on this floor have been introduced. That means someone's got a list of their names. We need to either find one of them close to us, find one invited to the same club as us, or find a shared marketplace before the spell is fixed. Getting Drew a Desperado Club Pass just became a top priority.

If we get create spellbook spellbook I'd be ok with Baker. All skilltrainer unlock is good but without spellcheese probably not priority anymore.

Also: we could load up Moose with explosives so he can do bombing runs against mobs. And stat boost Cookies to drop aid for other crawlers.

Just imagine it:
A group of crawlers stuck, they got surprised by more mobs than they can handle. They had to flee but got cut off by another group of mobs.
While running they send a message to their contacts not daring to hope, those rumors of the System Operator can't really be true, can they?
Now they are stuck, fighting with the courage of despair, anything but their best means they are guaranteed to die. And even with their best the chances are nearly 0.

What is that? A flying mob? Fuck!
Wait, a flying dog?
A flying dog dropping muffins on mobs??
A flying dog dropping exploding muffins?!
Oh god it is flying over us and dropping something...
What it dropped didn't explode.
Lets unwrap it...
[Buff Cookies] and a flyer... "Remember: They are stuck in here with us! Signed: Team Trickshot"

And then they rally, curbstomp the remaining mobs (severly thinned out by the bombing) and make oaths to themselves to find 'Team Trickshot' who/whatever that is.

By Floor 6 I'd like to have Silvertongued liar for Drew, so he doesn't just have his high char and luck but also a backup skill for lies. Gotta have a proper face for those story floors.

We could ask our manager if he knows a gameguide whose charges include a Mystic Scholar.

He may not be able to answer immediately, but if we ask when we start walking maybe he has time to ask around.

No love for bomb sniffer dog? It's one of my top choices also
Why is it your favorite? You might be able to convince EJ.

We could copy You Never Fed Me, Honest! to him if it's important, but I'd be wary of taking Calliope's niche. ...Then again, despite the skill, I don't think she's got the aptitude to focus on Charisma. I expect her to be more interested in ways to flashily stab things. We'll see how she takes to it.

Okay, here we go. Here's how we get the Create Spellbook Spellbook. All we need is the name of a Mystic Scholar. Then we pass them a written note through our inventory. Sure, we'd need their permission, but hopefully they'll allow it and the AI won't fuck us because it's funny. Then we trade them for a Create Spellbook Spellbook a Spellbook of Invulnerabilty. No need to meet them or have them in our contacts, even. Or I could be wrong, and it actually does require them in our contacts.
Abilities with a cooldown of 1 minute:
  • Provided that both sender and receiver are willing, you may move items from one crawler's inventory to another's

We could, but would cost us another SysOp copy. If we get into a situation where we have to lie, having both would be awesome.

Exactly why I'm wary of using her as the face and want to make sure

Problem:
To give Moose Class and Race we had to copy the +20 int from Drew to Moose. Which, to quote Eagle:
Using the following abilities will deactivate your class abilities for the rest of the floor

Well, there goes that clever idea. We're back to needing to get into the Desperado Club's marketplace ASAP.

And we can't help people not on our contacts list by hitting them with self-cast spells. There goes the idea of protecting people with just a name. We're going to have to seriously grind contacts. Send Moose and Taylor out looking for other crawlers.

Short-term, to be done ASAP: No matter which class we get for Moose, I think we should send him out scouting with a Taylor. Knowledge of our immediate area is crucial. Find and hook into chat with as many crawlers as possible for mutual assistance. Ask around for a Mystic Scholar, ostensibly because we want a Grease Spellbook. Unless we get Bounty Hunter: Save a crawlers's life by doing something impressive to get Moose and a Taylor into Vanquisher. Find a quest in town for Drew and Taylor to resolve evilly. Smash an occupied building with Gravity Hammer, con someone out of something irreplaceable and precious, help the AI orchestrate a horror, something worth entry into Desperado.

Medium Term: Get contact with the Mystic Scholar, get Grease and a Create Spellbook Spellbook. Drew should spend some time gambling and leveling Fortuna's Favored Child.
-If Moose is a Seeing Eye Dog, he and Taylor should search mostly over the ruins for treasure, stairwells and crawlers in trouble. Calli, Drew and Taylor should either follow along, taking advantage of the stuff Moose finds and grinding, or using C&D's Charisma and eking whatever advantage they can from the city NPCs.
-If Moose is a Boring Old Fighter, most of our effort has to go into finding bosses to fight. Canvassing NPCs, scouting Ruins.
-If Moose is a Banana Farmer, stick Drew on his back, let them happily strafe mobs from the air. They both have ranged attacks, mobs on the ground have no easy response.
-If Moose is a Bounty Hunter, we need to go hunt bounties. The perks are too good to turn down. We've got a lead on Eugene if he's still in one piece. Crawlers are dangerous, we need the party at full strength.
-If Moose is a Bomb Sniffer, we don't need to worry about finding a stairwell. Find other crawlers and direct them to the correct location.

Long-term desires: Expanded chat list and knowledge of the local crawlers' capabilities, setting ourselves up as a lynchpin. Drew's spells leveled to the point he gets to keep them. We don't IC know if he gets to keep spells/skills he levels, but if there's a chance at keeping a Level 10 Annihilation Dart, it's worth the wasted effort. Boxes for Wheeler Dealer, at least one of us should be saving them for Calliope. Knowledge of lore, we're going to need all the hints we can get for the future. Experience with quests. We've done almost none of them, we need to figure out how the AI plans encounters and plotlines.

@eaglejarl, Is it an oversight that Battlin' Baker doesn't offer the Baking skill, does the Industrial Kitchen upgrade supply it, or do we need to figure out a way to unlock it?

Oh, yeah! Even excluding desperado Drew will be able to clean basically any settlement out of all their money if they have any type of gambling. Leo on call to bullshit the floorboss lol

We won't get to keep the full level of the annihilation dart but we'll get to keep a levelled down spell. (essentially the exp from that one level gets divided as if you were leveling the spell from either 0 or 1 up, how the effect of character actor works in DCC is a bit weird)

We've done almost none of them, we need to figure out how the AI plans encounters and plotlines.
Here's the thing quests are more a thing from this floor on, anything else is more incidental storytelling than anything else.

although the idea behind gathering info is always something that could be done. especially when it comes to boss monsters, their arenas can actually tell you about how to beat them and all.
