Dragon Kings in the 41st Millennia (Exalted/40K Empire)

Gothic Expedition 146.M41-147.M41
Crone World 1: Eldar Asshole Index (69)
Seasons 2-10: 38, 86, 98, 26, 06, 36, 08, 84, 78

Things go ok for the first few season but eventually Slaaneshi Daemons start attacking the separate gathering groups in growing numbers, nearly overwhelming our guards in ever growing waves of attacks until just before the end of our second year they seem to have calmed down… hopefully it stays calm going forward.

2,640 dragon kings died.
97,360/100,000
Used two standard and grace stockpiles, 4 of each left.

Maiden World 1: Eldar Asshole Index (39)

Seasons 2-10: 31, 40, 80, 67, 09, 67, 82, 10, 69

Attacks from Drukhari seem to come in waves, with several season passing with little to now sign before a sudden uptick in attack leaves our warriors struggling to deal with the attack on this Maiden world.

2,277 Dragon Kings Dead
97722/100,000
Used two standard and grace stockpiles, 4 of each left.

Crone World 2: Eldar Asshole Index (100)
Seasons 2-10: 05, 17, 13, 15, 59, 48, 56, 35, 45

The temple of Torothal remains under heavy attack for the rest of the first year. A couple attempts at daring raids are made to try to relieve the situation but none succeed and its only sheer time and the attention of holy weaponry (both from Dragon Kings and the relics of the Priests of Torothal) that eventually wears down the daemonic enemies and eventually the second year eases up into raids and what the priests of Torothal might call situation normal. They are still very thankful for the support during that challenging time.

4375 Dragon Kings died this turn.

93,750/100,000
Used 4 standard and grace stockpiles, 1 of each left.

Maiden World 2: Local Situation(88), Eldar Asshole Index (60)
This maiden worlds local Exodite culture is much friendlier albeit more spread out. They roam on dinosaur mounts and live a nomadic life and we have joined in these convoys to protect them. They are not quite treating us as friends but more like hire mercenaries their to guard them which is basically the truth. Occasionally we have a dinosaur race to relieve tensions. So far no Drukhari have been spotted.

No Deaths yet.

Seasons 2-10: 26, 67, 46, 12, 04, 16, 69, 77, 87

Things on this maiden world stay calm for most of the first year but as the year turns we are faced with two seasons of completely overwhelming assaults on the Dinosaur convoys we are guarding by Drukhari raiders. This ends after almost 6 months of raids when we locate one of the Drukhari forward bases and decimate it with Devotional Artillery strikes. So far its been quiet since then.

1138 Dragon King Deaths.
98,861/100,000
Used three standard and grace stockpiles, 3 of each left.

Crone World 3: Local Situation(11), Eldar Asshole Index (26)

This would seems to have some form of Advanced infrastructure that the Craftworlders of Ulthwe occasionally visit and get something out of when predictions say its safe to do so and only commit heavy resources to keep the infrastructure from being rendered un-usable. Somehow its been decided that with our defending the site the Eldar can start up full production and leave the defense to us for a time. The Eldar are not hindering us but making no attempt to help and their activities are definitely drawing horders of Wyld spawned monsters to the site.

Battle On
5312 died this turn
94,688/100,000
Used two standard and Grace stockpiles, 4 left of each.

Seasons 2-9: 31, 06, 38, 76, 43, 57, 62, 47, 39

The gearing up industrial sight continues to draw attacks from far and wide for most of the next year. Wearing down our troops more than almost any other location. Finally attacks start to taper off, if only because we have had to fight and kill everything in the vicinity already. We are heavily concerned that a big attack is preparing out of range of our scouts and will be coming in soon.

2157 dead dragon kings.
92,531/100,000
Used one standard and Grace Stockpile, 3 of each left.

[X] Plan Fight Cultists and Pirates
-[X] Abundant Feast
--[X] Season 1: Get repaired.

Repairs go swimmingly

-3 Logistics Stockpiles.

--[X] Season 2-9: Hunt pirates. will lead any boarding actions on pirates. If the False Prophet is found, they will do what they can to aid in fighting him.
30, 94, 98, 22, 92, 86, 35, 99

Between your two ships and the Kayotl's Mosok insight into Piracy you do amazingly well at pirate hunting. So well you can pick and choose and focus on Ork Pirates so you are not seen killing humans… just in case.

The Humans are a touch slow to get off the mark but when they put together how many ork pirates you are killing they put together a task force and raid one of the biggest collectives of Human Piracy in the Sub-sector.

Successfully recapture your stolen transport. Abundant Feast's Kayotl gains a Pirate hunter trait. You gain +10 AP in scrapped Ork parts and recovered goods, you gain 4 Exotic Component Stockpiles in weirdboy brainz and extremely valuable recovered goods.

Piracy that isn't tied to Chaos raids falls to an all time low.

-[X] Luminous Herald of Dawn
--[X] Season 1-2: Recharge all Arks of Wrath Beyond Measure, one Sunburst, Aegis and Godspear.

The crew takes a well deserved rest, fully shaking off the effects of regrowing their shadows as well as the stress of the long combat within the Blackstone fortresses.

All relics and Arks fully charged.

--[X] Season 3-9: Hunt pirates with the Abundant Feast. If the False Prophet is found, they will do what they can to aid in fighting him.

-[X] Stalking Mantis: Will aid the spy network in hunting down the False Prophet.
98— bingo.

False Prophet found on the Penal World Walpurgis, albeit on the far side of the planet from the penal colony itself. Stalking mantis gets its readings and manages to exfiltrate before it is spotted. The decision is made to wait for the the Luminous Herald of Dawn and the Abundant Feast to be fully prepared and ready to go before we all attack together.

-[X] Arbiter of the Golden Lord: Assigned to the Luminous Herald.
-[X] Amoth: Assigned to the Abundant Feast.
-[X] Cerulean Arc: Assigned to the Abundant Feast.
-[X] Khalas: Assigned to the Luminous Herald of Dawn.
-[X] Sea Serpent Flash: Still the Captain of the Luminous Herald of Dawn.
-[X] Nysela: Spend as many seasons as needed to be an advisor on how to prepare the Blackstone Fortresses for any future attacks by Abaddon. If she finishes this before season 9, she will join the Luminous Herald of Dawn.
01 reroll 38

Nysela is not invited to any discussion by imperials on how to deal with future attacks so she will remain on the Luminous Herald of dawn.

-[X] Little Beam: Assigned to the Abundant Feast to lead boarding teams.
-[X] Ashlords: Split between the three ships.
-[X] Corpse-Eaters: Aid the spy network.
-[X] Ecstatics: Split between the three ships.
-[X] Metalforgers: Focus on repairs and then be distributed between the ships.
-[X] Sparks: Split between the Stalking Mantis to aid the spy network and Luminous Herald of Dawn.
-[X] Spy Network: Hunt for the False Prophet and intel on pirates. Try to purchase what astrological maps we can. If the False Prophet is found, they will do what they can to aid in fighting him.
44, 96, 89, 08, 53, 24, 06, 71, 87

Your spy network manages to acquire only the crudest of star maps. Apparently these are not widely distributed and only held in the hands of those who need to know… and not all those who need to know even get them. We have discovered that apparently the average imperial has only the vaguest idea where his home is in relation to anything else within the Imperium of Mankind. Average human aside, the average noble and spacer is barely aware of their position in the Empire.

Our efforts to learn about pirate pattern are more fruitful and we are able to direct the hunting warships in on likely raiders again and again.

Penal World Walpurgis 146.M41 - Fire

The Stalking Mantis is used to insert several gods and elder Pterok for the purpose of locking down the site so portals cannot be used to escape… again.

As soon as this is done a massive and incredibly dense magnetic field comes on line around the location preventing orbital bombardment, air support, or nearby landings. A broadcast from the False Prophet himself proclaims, "You again! Fine I have finished the first stage of my great work! Come face me lizard freaks! My Perfected Warriors will sharpen their blades on your bones and make glorious art of your flesh. Your time perverted the designs of the Primordial Truth will soon come to an end!"

With that he cuts the broadcast but we are already landing, this time all our heroes, all the Ruby Arrows, two full Draconic Legions and all the support staff we can muster. Only the ship security forces are staying on board in case of reprisals. Even Khalash, Achtontekatl of the Expedition, will land and lead the battle directly. Sororitas have divined the importance of this fight in preventing a new sub-faction of Chaos from arising and have 1000 Sisters with heavy equipment to contribute.

Dragon King Forces
5000 Ruby Arrows (50 dice)
10,000 Draconic Legionnaires (16 dice)
Full support from Alternate Paths (5 dice)
Arbiter (1 dice)
Little Beam (2 dice)
Final Hymn of Judgement (1 legendary dice)
1000 Sisters of Battle with Heavy Equipment (8 dice)

False Prophet Forces
False Prophet
6,666 Perfected Warriors (133 dice)
??? Daemonic Support

Disposition: Dragon King(95) Perfected Warriors (66)

Dragon King forces and the allied Sororitas land smoothly and arrange themselves into battle formations before marching under the Magnetic shielding with no problems.

Inside they see a force of Five Thousand Perfected Warriors arranged before them, they all seem to be mounted on some form of Daemonic being that will enable them to clear the distance so quickly that any form of artillery bombardment will be pointless.

Strategy Rolls:
Khalash: 12 successes on 16 dice
False Prophet: 5 successes on 18 dice.

As the False Prophet orders a senseless charge into your lines, Khalash takes a moment to review memories of Stratagems ingrained into his mind by the Lizard Queen before issuing his orders.

He sends the Ox–Dragons and Siege Lizards ahead, and with loud bellows the giant beasts charge. Flame Lances on the backs of the Ox Dragons firing to effect just before the lock in place and charge into the Army of Perfected Warriors and than the Siege Lizards turn and form a wall of flesh to force a temporary halt to the enemy charge.

Not because they are terribly effective, the pained screams of dinosaurs shake the air proving otherwise. But it does buy just enough time for the Artillery to actually come into play, and just as the Siege Lizards start following and the Daemonic mounts start pushing past their corpses, a volley of Implosive Bolts tears into the front line and Holy rounds start falling on the back line from the Devotional cannons. The Sisters of Battle's heavy vehicles add storms of missile and heavy bolter fire to the cacophony, this bombardment he hopes will even the odds enough for a Dragon King victory.

[35 Perfect Warrior Dice killed in initial bombardment + 3 from Ox Dragons and Siege Lizards]

After that bombardment the forces of Perfect Warriors clash with your troops, the Ruby Arrows taking the front lines and the brunt of damage from the clash. During this clash Khalash and the Arbiter of the Golden Lord go hunting for the Flash Prophet, eager to bring him to grips. Final Hymn of Judgement gets among his foes and lays about with Dissonant Coda and Structure Rending Screams accounting for almost ten percent of enemy kills.

[37 dice of Dragon Kings killed in the clash, 66 more perfected warriors dead in the clash]

While the Ruby Arrows are brutalized the Perfected warriors have lost thousands of warriors and the artistry of their fighting style, while potent, lacks something critical when forced into close range with Angry Magical Dinosaur Soldiers. The Flash Prophet is hunted down and a duel start with Khalash bearing a particularly high quality Sword Club while the Arbiter uses his odd Panopoly weapons but between the two the lock the False Prophet down and keep him from influencing the battle or fleeing until one by one his warriors are all brought down.

[14 dice of Dragon Kings killed, 37 Perfected Warrior Dice killed in the clash]

31 Dragon King Dice left, Perfected Warriors gone.

False Prophet Rage!

False Prophet 17 vs Dragon Kings (93)

Just as the False Prophet noticing the last of his Warriors dying and you can see him trying to figure out what to do or bluster Final Hymn of Judgement who had become oddly silent in the second stage of the battle suddenly unleashes his full Mark IV Heavy Sonic Cannon attack, the core of the energy passing danger close between Arbiter of the Golden Lord and Khalash and totally enveloping the False Prophet before taking off the top of a mountain in the distance.

Everyone kind of stops and stares at Final Hymn of Judgement as he transforms back into his Warstrider form.

The God Machine booms almost sheepishly, "ITS THE ONLY WAY TO BE SURE!"

Getting into the secret base you find a few hundred warriors in training but not up to snuff yet and a clawful of what seems to have been a next step to the process that would have made the warriors even more dangerous but the process was incomplete and there are only 66 of them so you handle it fine.

False Prophet and all his Works are unmade.
You take 25 dice in losses after the use of Invocation Stockpiles

Use three Invocation stockpiles, and three Standard Stockpiles.

You have lost one full Draconic Legion, a Draconic Legion is reformed from the survivors of the two Draconic Legions that started. Between this and the battles on Mezoa this Draconic Legion has been granted Veteran Status and may receive a Name.
-[ ] Tech Guardians: Bonus to fighting Hereteks or on Forgeworld or equivalent. Discount on upgrading to Front Line Gear
-[ ] Perfected Slayers: Bonus to fighting extremely skilled enemies (Astartes, Aspect Warriors and the Ilk). Discount to training to higher skill level.

Your Ruby Arrows has taken severe losses and will need a project to come up to full strength. This will operate as 33 dice until this project is completed.
Gain .5 with the Order of the Quicksilver Rose.

Abaddon Sightings:

146.M41 - Earth: Abaddon led forces manage to claim the Agriworlds of Erebus and Drakula. Cutting off food shipments threaten starvation on the Hive World Cherys.

146.M41- Fire: You bastards killed the False Prophet!

147.M41- Water: Abaddon threatens the Hiveworlds of Cherys directly as well as the forge world of Zpandex. Imperials respond as well as they can although they are nervous to commit anything with Blackstone III so close to Abaddon's sights.

147.M41- Earth: And for good reason. The following month Abaddon shows his excellence as an admiral as he manages to pin the Imperial forces away from Fier long enough for his captured Blackstone fortress to arrive near Blackstone III, warp mists still clinging to the hull when he docks with the imperial controlled Blackstone fortress with his own and than drags it into the warp and away from Fier somehow.

Presumably he is just using aggressive daemon deals and sorcery to make up for the lack of the Eye of Night or the Hand of Darkness.

We believe that while he lacks those Artifacts, his possession of a fortress and experience subverting them means he will likely gain control of the second fortress by 148.M41-Water

147.M41-Fire: Additional Agriworlds, Gath and Yama Enda in the Gethsemane Subsect have been captured by Abaddon and their harvests now flow to his troops. Worse there are concerns that even if those four agri worlds are recovered the produce that remains will be tainted and can no longer provide for the Hiveworlds Gethsemane and Cherys in the Sub-sector. Simply shipping food from outside the Sub-sector would be trying enough but its made far worse as Chaos forces continue to at least sporadically blockade Cherys.

Enemy Intelligence:

Known Chaos forces still in Gothic Sector amount to
2 x Blackstone Fortresses
2 x Chaos Battleships
2 X Grand Cruisers
6 x Heavy Cruisers
1 x Chaos Cruiser
13ish x Raiders

Next will be the post for turn 50. Anything Rushed in Turn 50 will be considered available just after the events of this post.

Oh my god this was very well bloody
The Perfected Warrior plus Daemon mount was about double as potent as your Ruby Arrow Elite warriors, or half as good as your Naval Phalanxes in their element.

IE about 1/8th as good as a Space Marine but he managed to mass produce them, creating thousands in only like 5 or 6 years.

Narratively it was Chaos's first attempt to create a new faction to counter the Presence of Dragon Kings. Since it was defeated their will be a narrative push for the next attempt to also fail, which of course means it will be ten times more dangerous when you encounter it.

Oh shit well I guess this is time to make our warriors an upgrade
Eh, I would say more warriors are more the goal at this point. You are well situated to raise a second Elite Legion and your Veteran unit getting named here would make a good start to that.

Feel free to write in some names and potential bonuses, just remember it should be related to the fighting on Mezoa and Walpurgis and maybe Stravinar if we want to stretch it. As my examples show, saying just Chaos, is not really what I am going for. A specific Primordial would be OK at this point, especially Khorne.

This cuts off.

Yeah, we really need to see if we can somehow standardize Celestial Martial Arts considering they're our greatest weapon and defense against random bullshit. Maybe the Iron Kings can get the Perfected Lotus Matrix.
Annoyingly, neither of the Unconquered Sun themed CMAs actually have Holy charms. IIRC, the only canon ones that do are Violet Biers of Sorrow Style (which no one but Sids are allowed to learn) and Righteous Devil Style (which theoretically synergies with our guns but assumes flame weapons and also sucks). I'm sure Little Light can come up with something though, so the main barrier is the issue of learning it.

I'm inclined to 'Perfected Slayers' over 'Tech Guardians' given the (narrative) potency of Astartes, Drucchi, Necron Immortals etc, though going with 'Tech Guardians' and just keeping them on standby to bully Hereteks with Final Hymn of Judgement and intervene against Forge Worlds under attack has potential.

For Holy keywords we have the far easier to learn Golden Janissary Style (first charm, Cleansing Flame Strike, has Holy keyword) and if we need CMA artists to all have Holy I imagine that (given their numbers and the comparative ease we have in producing such things) we can make Holy keyword weapons in their style of choice without crippling difficulty.

I'm surprised that Solar Hero Style doesn't have Holy, though I'll note that a rewrite Fist of the Daystar does in an expansion charm (Orichalcum Fists of Battle, upgrading the basic 'can parry weapons without a stunt' charm). I can also imagine the capstone charm for Eye of Heaven (Offering to Heaven, the 'rip out the heart of the foe as an offering to the Unconquered Sun' finishing move) getting at least a non-Holy 'this is effective against CoDs' mention, though the effort being a prayer may have odd interactions with Holy keywords. Arms of the Unconquered Sun Style...maybe add something with Crowned Sun Form, making it reasonable for stunts using Arms of the Unconquered Sun style to make attacks Holy?

Beautiful work good to see this back, also damn we are going to have to recover and cleanse those agriworlds.

"Ugh. This is going to take all day."
- senior priestess aboard the floating dinosaur ziggurat about to Deus Ex Machina the machinations of eldritch horrors by opening a golden can of whoop-ass over a continent full of soybeans

I wonder if the Imperium would be interested in us cleansing an agri-world after the war? Normal paranoia makes me think not, but this is a weird enough situation that with Goldfeather conditionally vouching for us some Inquisitors might be tempted to at least see if we can do what we claim. Horst doesn't strike me as that sort, but I hesitate to take it off the table entirely.

146.M41- Fire: You bastards killed the False Prophet!

I believe I have the response from the Achtontekatl here, Lord Inquisitor.

2 x Blackstone Fortresses

Is the 'yoink a Blackstone Fortress' project still on the table or did getting Goldfeather's attention change that? I don't see what won as regards the 'do a bunch of stuff' vote.

On a related note, any idea if the Eldar are still waiting in the wings to do a Big Damn Heroes moment?

Is the 'yoink a Blackstone Fortress' project still on the table or did getting Goldfeather's attention change that?

If you vote for the option to get a Blackstone fortress location from the Emperor the understanding is that you will not steal one from him, even indirectly.

I don't see what won as regards the 'do a bunch of stuff' vote.

The vote for that will be at the same time as the turn 50 budget, though they will not be tied together.

On a related note, any idea if the Eldar are still waiting in the wings to do a Big Damn Heroes moment?
That is the plan if an opportunity presents itself. Abbadon's next attack will likely be his last and the Eldar will likely respond to that attack. Without divination your best guess is Brigid which has two fortress in the system still including one he recently owned so his the tastiest prize. Of course everyone knows that so he might choose something else.

Just so we know, I had planned on posting the budget planning after deciding on what the Veteran unit will be called so the relevant options can be created or modified. If you are ok with that not being the case I can post the budget plan relatively soon. Its basically turn 50 planning plus voting for how many favors to do for the Emperor.

And we're back.

During this clash Khalash and the Arbiter of the Golden Lord go hunting for the Flash Prophet,
The Flash Prophet is hunted down and
Ether this is a typo or the False Prophet temporally turned into a flash git which would probably explain his poor tactical showing here.

Hard to chose as both are pretty useful but having a force dedicated to countering elite units and will have an easier time training up to higher skill levels does seem to have a more broad application then fighting Dark Mechanicus or on forgeworlds does.

It's always a treat when Abaddon gets written as an actual threat rather then defaulting to the failbaddon the armless meme.

Out of curiosity StarJaunter what would have happened if we had actually manged to kill Abaddon when we fought him in that Blackstone fortress?

[X] Perfected Slayers: Bonus to fighting extremely skilled enemies (Astartes, Aspect Warriors and the Ilk). Discount to training to higher skill level.

I meant what would the repercussions be since he is if not the big bad of the setting then one of the major ones and the guy who keeps most of the forces of chaos pointed in the same direction.
The event that might have been called the 13th black crusade would have been kicked off with 4 or 5 chaos factions who would be less united but there would be more total Chaos forces to make up for it. Esstentially chaos as a whole would increase investment in the event to kick it off despite having less organization and leadership, this both means there are greater opportunities to put Chaos to hurting but also result in a quiet rebuilding period after the crusade as the Ruinous powers restore after the investment.

[X] Perfected Slayers: Bonus to fighting extremely skilled enemies (Astartes, Aspect Warriors and the Ilk). Discount to training to higher skill level.

While it pains me to not choose the tech guardians we are not likely to be fighting Hereteks or on Forgeworlds or their equivalent very often, the upgrading discount is tasty thou.
The Perfected Slayers however give us a bonus to fighting Astartes grade enemies which we are likely going to be fighting more of in the coming years. This plus the discount to next level skill training edges this choice ahead for me.

To play devil's advocate, the only thing stopping us from targeting Heretek Forgeworlds after this is logistics; I doubt the Mechanicus would withhold information on where Daemonforge Nega-Jupiter #7 is, and I imagine Final Hymn of Judgement's immediate response to finding out about them would be 'my bags are packed what are you waiting for?'. Besides, loss of a Forge World is a serious blow for the Imperium and disproportionately so for the forces of Chaos; they tend to have to rely more on stealing and converting stuff instead of building it themselves, so losing a bunch of Heretek Forgeworlds in a sector means Chaos offensives there are likely to be less equipped with the really high end stuff and will have to spend what resources they have on securing additional resources instead of accomplishing objectives.

Plus unlike the Imperium we can get loot from them - we aren't as paranoid about Wyld-tainted equipment after all, and can probably convert 'stuff a daemon in it' engineering to 'this works best with an elemental doing this job' - and can possibly (possibly) recover STC records for trade and dissemination. Tough nuts to crack, but tasty meat inside.
