They'd caught of the cape's little 'art project,' it seemed.
Missing a word here. Caught wind of? Sight of? Word of?

The truck had a large scorch mark on its barrel,
You know, I'd almost forgotten that Ammy could use bombs? That's gonna be a fun conversation for the criminals to have with law enforcement.

Is this the first time Coil's learning about Good Dog? This promises to be interesting...

So, question.

If I do get the urge to explore the darker side of Constellations, in the form of a collection of side stories (primarily revolving around Chessman, most likely), would keeping the thread open to omakes as a sort of... I guess community project work?

Because I'm tempted and have some ideas for it, but it wouldn't have an overall plot and I honestly wouldn't want to be the only person keeping it afloat.

(Also is that even a good idea or not)

*insert new post joy and shenanigans*
Whyyyyyy! Why can't I hug this post more than once? Ammy wouldn't mind, she likes hugs! Hugs for the hug god(dess)! Antigrav for the floaty throne!

Srsly tho, Ammy loves herself some powered transport. First the segway, then MM's bike, now Kid Win's hover board? Is Ammy a lazy dogGod?

I'd rather that be in a separate thread to avoid bringing the mood down. It's a comfortable and relaxing read as is, but if people start posting about the darker behind the scenes stuff they'll ruin that feeling IMO.

That sounds good.

But yeah a separate thread with a link in the first post would probably work best.

I disagree. We're certainly not going to get down to the meat any time soon, considering that Kaiser, Krieg, Fenja, Menja, Night, Fog, Crusader, Stormtiger, Cricket, and some other cape they have have yet to get captured, and while this story is good it's only good while it's seriously good.

This is like a hot shower. It's nice and comfy, but then your skin starts peeling off and itching and you're miserable while lying in bed all night because you absorbed too much heat and now your pajamas are like clothing-ovens, and then you wake up in the morning and remember that you were wearing all that because it's winter and you can't afford to heat your house when you're asleep.

The moral is that we should turn on the cold water faucet just a bit. Not the sewer faucet, not the face-eating bath salts, just a little bit of cold water. It's darker than the main story, sure, but that's just because this is on Fire.

That's why I suggested a second thread for that sort of stuff. If you're in the mood for it, pop on over. If you're not, (hopefully) nobody's gonna start ranting about it here.

Slowly, the dog turned its head to face him, never stopping its stream. The animal had the most disapproving expression he'd ever seen.
Sunny, establishing dominance.

An overturned cardboard box shuffled closer to the pair, creeping towards the shadow cast by Kid Win's hoverboard. A wet, black nose and a few traces of white fur were poking out of the handle-grip hole near the bottom. Aegis stared.

"That is not what I think it is."
Sunny, earning that Stranger rating.

Good Dog froze where it was for a moment as its cover was blown, before quickly sitting up and wrapping its tail around its paws, putting on a serene and unaffected air.
"I wasn't caught. I was like this the whole time."

Good Dog looked at Kid Win, then slowly turned an unmistakably greedy gaze to the tinker's hoverboard. The alleged dog slowly looked back at Kid Win, who gripped a hand around the edge of his board more tightly.
Kid win shook his head.

SUNNY NODDED.

Bark! BARK BARK BARK! BARKBARKBARKBARK--BOOOOM! (Fweeee crackle crackle!)
That, right there, is the sound of tactical espionage action.

"Snaaaaaaake Eaaaaateeeeer!" Woooooo~!
And that, right there, is the soundtrack of tactical espionage action.

Oh my doG, I can't breathe!

Also, I'm seeing pretty mixed sentiment on 'this is funny' and 'this is too silly.'
This is unabashed comedy with plot. I think it's working pretty well. There no doubt exists a point where it becomes too much, but I don't think we reach that point in this chapter.

I'll back the second thread idea. I actually enjoy reading a Worm fic that doesn't devolve into Grim Darkness and Suffering just because the source material is dark, especially one that isn't a crackfic. Another thread holding the darker side-stories and omakes would mean less trawling through Threadmarks and reaction posts to read the actual chapters.

Plus, goD knows this thread has enough traffic and discussion as it is.

Implying there will be grim darkness and suffering from the guy who's power is being CREED (Baneblade from out from behind a lamppost), except with every game's pieces, not just 40K.

Kaiser, Krieg, Fenja, Menja, Night, Fog, Crusader, Stormtiger, Cricket, and some other cape they have
I seem to recall that Night, Fog, and Crusader had left the EEE, and re-joined with Purity.

Has Othela been captured, though? She was mentioned as backing up Victor, but no mention was made on if she'd been captured.

But yeah a separate thread with a link in the first post would probably work best.

It would be a second thread-- I've thought about this enough already I already have a title picked out.

It would also, aside from Constellations omakes, give me a place to explore other characters a little. I use the same 'template', for lack of a better word, across all my stories (so, the Armsmaster in Hunter is the same person as in Constellations, just with very, very different circumstances) because Constellations is a relatively low impact AU, at least for the first half. I mean, compared to Show of Force or Hunter, anyway.

And sometimes I just like the idea of Cape!Danny and want to see him kick ass and be extremely awkward around people in his civilian life.

I trust that Danny will somehow manage to fuck that up as well. :V

He'll either increase the Grimdarkness to straight up 40K levels or drive it down so much Sunny will give him a disapproving look at the sheer silliness.

Along the Boardwalk, heads turned as the colorful young woman in the painter's mask walked her… dog, occasionally stopping to let the wolf re-dip her paws before the paint would exhaust itself on the pavement.
She said she's not a cape, but she has:

1. A mask (a painter's mask to filter the paint gas, but still)
2. A costume (her bright white--and-red miko outfit and her painter's apron, already separates her from everyone else's attire)
3. An ability (everything she paints become a better, fixed version of it without any other outside interference. Sunny, according to other people)

Everything else (her paint buckets, her brushes, Sunny) is just additional things that helps a cape to be more efficient. Honestly, how exactly Taylor think normal people identify a cape?

I hope the first few chapters are about Danny's introduction into the Protectorate. I'm thinking some good short stories would be: meeting the Wards for the first time, Chessman's first PR appearance (toy parade!), Battery having a short scare when she sees tiny army men lugging coffee from the break room, April Fool's Day pranks of the same nature, and getting formation tips from Velocity and Miss Militia.

What, you thought the Yangban wouldn't notice someone setting up a legit Shinto shrine?
