Words cannot properly convey my happiness seeing this story continue.

Anyways, I take it this chapter takes place the night before Ammy snowed over the shrine, right? I was hoping to see the aftermath of that, but this is just as good. Dinner with the Alcotts is both awkward and insightful at the same time. And we finally get to see through Emma's eyes.

Just one thing:
"So," she began, her voice clipped and eyes sharp, "Oni Lee. What made you suddenly start following the mayor's daughter?"
Dinah Alcott is the mayor's niece. The mayor is the father of Rory Christner (Triumph).

And people ask me why I have a soft spot for Emma. She's so... broken. It's hard not to feel for her. Even when she's an awful bitch, I want to help her.

"No. I will not insult your hospitality."

"No one else is wearing a mask, here. It would be discourteous to refuse to do the same,"

"My sister did not choose this, but others chose for her. Dinah has not chosen this. Others have attempted to choose for her. I do not agree with their presumption;

And as we all know by now. Hospitality is Important!

"And you're not worried about losing your secret identity?"
Losing his identity? Oni Lee nearly laughed. In response, he asked, "New Wave cooperates with the Protectorate. Do you have any records of me? Do you know my name?"
Lady Photon's face was like stone-- if she lied, Oni Lee had no idea. "No."
"...that is a shame," he said after a moment. "Neither do I."

"I suspect that you do not regret your methods; therefore, I will not regret mine. I can expect no mercy, and as such, can offer none. This is the life that parahumans have chosen."

A nice, but sad, insight to a character who got truly shafted by the side affects of their Power. Characters like Sveta and Miss Militia are more obvious. What with having nigh-uncontrollable murder tentacles and never being able to sleep or forget, respectively. Oni Lee leaves unnoticed portions of himself behind, which die and were unrecoverable without doG type intervention. Alibaster is another Power I feel that strips parts of them away. After all, physically resetting every few seconds might heal you to full, but you also stop being asleep or full or that comfiness of lying under a pile of blankets and just being warm.

Glad to see an update as well. Especially with new Adventures of Dina and our Friendly Neighborhood Oni Lee!

You continue to provide the absolute best, most heartbreaking Oni Lee ever written. You've done amazing things with a character who was little more than a plot device in canon, and I am in awe.

Yay, more Onii-Lee! ^_^ That was so sweet, 'we chose this life, she did not, I'm enforcing her Not Choosing This'.
Interesting that this is beyond keeping the shrine neutrality.

From the sounds of it, this isn't the first time that Dinah has brought Oni home for dinner. I'd say that Dianh's parents are freaking out and asked for some heroes to come over and question him to try figure out what the hell is going on.
After Dinah was rescued by Oni Lee, she has "lost" herself several times to get to the Pawprint Shrine, where eventually Oni Lee escorts her home (Taylor doesn't because she doesn't know where Dinah lives; Ammy removed the pages from the phone directory where her address is)

Emma engages in self reflection and the Oni comes to dinner. Interestingly enough, over time Oni have lost their monstrous associations and taken on aspects of protective spiritual entities. Heck they're also now put on roof tiles as Onigawara to ward off bad luck.

Introspective.

Very introspective update.

Oni(I)-Lee is giving rumination on his place in all of this, and Emma is trying to find her own place.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE A JOB FOR GOOD doG!

Oh wait.

This was really sweet... Just... Really sweet...

The Jorogumo (Not sure if correct spelling) that tried to ensnare and eat Emma a while back. The one Yuuta saved her from with Taylor's exorcism slips.
Spider Youkai that tried to get Emma to fill Taylor's locker with its Eggs. My guess is she did so because it was Taylor's locker, as a way of striking indirectly at Sunny.
ah. i remember that now. thanks.

Now that I'm done squeee-ing, I agree that this is a good introspection chapter and that this is the most likeable Oni Lee. We all appreciate and thank @UnwelcomeStorm for this chapter and wish him her (the Batman pic always fools me) and wish for further doG based shenanigans!

Literally punched the air and shouted yes when I saw this. Then I read it and all to suddenly it was over, much sadness.

Amusing dinner scene, wonder how NW snuck in, I suspect either Dinah using her power or Sunny distracting. Wonder what the outcome will be and what Oni Lee will reveal other than his face.

Poor Emma, so lost. But she has Yuuta, much to Yuuta's exasperation. But, now she has cleared the board again to start fresh, she needs to talk with Taylor.

I'm guessing Dinah's parents invited New Wave over because their daughter wasn't giving up on her "have Oni Lee stay for dinner" idea, so if they had to have him over, they decided to arrange for backup.
