No no no. The other Blitzball player.
There were a few in that game. As in, a half-dozen entire teams. So just saying 'blitzball player' is not very specific.

Given that he's responding to a character named Wakka, he probably means the FFX character of that name. Who happens to be a blitzball player. Like, I don't know, a third of the named cast?

....

...Last time I checked, FFX only had one guy named Wakka. And the amount of named Blitzball player on FFX... 3? 4 guys at most?

It is Waka, one K, and from Okami, not Final Fantasy. This isn't the Final Fantasy thread, this is the Taylor has a doG as a best friend. The Best doG.

Only 4 named Blitzball players?
Just on the Aurochs, you had Tidus, Wakka, Datto, Letty, Jassu, Botta, and Keepa.
The Goers had Bicksom, Abus, Graav, Doram, Balgerda, and Raudy.
From the Beasts you had Larbeight, Isken, Vuroja, Kulukan, Deim, and Nizarut.
The Psyches had Eigaar, Blappa, Berrik, Judda, Lakkam, and Nimrook.
The Fangs consisted of Basik, Argai, Gazna, Nuvy, and Zamzi.
Finally, the Glories had Giera, Zazi, Navara, Auda, Pah, and Noy.

But wait, there's more! There were another 24 named players scattered around the map that you could recruit.

Yeah, this was me commenting that the first "Wakka" I think of is spelled with two "k"s, and from FFX. Well, second, but "Wokka Wokka" is spelled even more differently, said twice, and isn't a name so much as a catchphrase of a beloved fuzzy stand-up comedian.

I...actually own Okami, but never got very far in it. I'm not sure I ever got out of the starting village. I know I didn't meet this "Waka" fellow. Is he an amusing trickster?

More of a wandering jackass. With a load of charisma, a habit of dropping french into his speech and tends to know a lot more then he lets on.

... I'm not sure what to compare him to. I guess maybe think Tuxedo Mask? Shows up from time to time to help out, philosophize at you, and/or fight you for whatever reason, but is never actually a bad guy.

He first shows up fairly early but given he also is highly relevant to the endgame, well, you'd have to play the whole game to have a clear picture.
