You guys are going to be waiting awhile for the next post, so while you wait I want to hear your thoughts on who you think is a good fit for Hitomi, since that's what we're apparently gunning for. If you know your Fate well enough, that's great, you're halfway there! If not, you've got a handy-dandy list of all the Saber servants available for review here.

In competition for the slot of Saber is Cú Chulainn for Bazett and Miyamoto Musashi for Miyuki, so don't pick either of them if you can help it.

I almost want to say Diarmuid of the Love Spot, considering Hitomi's assosication with Love Triangles, but the wiki mentions he's much more difficult to summon as a Saber. I don't think Hitomi would be able to pull it off.

I'd suggest Jeanne D'Arc for the pure trolling value for involved servants as well as Homura's assignment partners.

Pfft, that's easy (unlike last time I attempted to find a Saber for Hitomi). She would have Sherlock Holmes as a Saber.

All she has to do it roll the Gacha; it's as simple as that. Maybe she gets an SSR, maybe she gets Saber Gilles.

Because you think she'd be a god match for Hitomi, or because it would be funny/the memes?

Well, Sherlock, care to explain your reasoning to the rest of us uneducated Watsons?

To quote his Saber page

The Saint Graph's ability is higher compared to Lancer but, on the other hand, the degree of difficulty in summoning is also higher. The summoning person's ability needs to be better by far and, if special conditions aren't completed for the Saint Graphs materialization, it could vanish like mist.

From my limited understanding, this basically means Saber Diarmund dies instantly if his Master isn't good enough.

You know nothing of the Nasuverse, do you? Rules are made specifically to be broken. That's not just rhetoric, either- All of the people I've asked about this have said the same thing, that Nasu likes to make up a rule just so he can have it be broken or come up with the singular exception to that rule later on.

I wasn't joking, if you're wondering. Sherlock can be summoned as a Saber, Archer, or Caster when he's not a Ruler.

Here's a snippet from his Type-Moon wikia page:
Holmes is famous for his deductive mind and believes in taking cases for the sake of justice and as an intellectual pursuit rather than for fame, fortune or glory.

Contemplative, but at the same time, active. Bold, but at the same time, precise. And also a calm and composed man. Any kind of mystery, crime, and scheme cannot run from Holmes' eyes. Even if it is a fearsome killer, an ancient curse, a monster of the dark night, and even if it is an ultra nationalistic secret association, he will reveal everything. If necessary, he would defeat it. With the sharp blade called the truth. That way of life has already surpassed the boundary of men. It could even be called the personification of "A Wise Man" or a "Revealer".
Hitomi shares a lot of his traits, namely they're both intellectual - not necessarily for the "fame, fortune, or glory"; they're both contemplative yet active, bold and precise (look at the whole 'Hitomi steals away Kyousuke from Sayaka' situation from canon, she thought it out and decided to go for it after weighing the consequences); they both are interested in mysteries, which ties into the intellectual bit (I'm mostly assuming for Hitomi in this case, but from how she's been portrayed in this quest so far I'd assume so). They both are good natured as well, though obviously not saints; they prefer to study and perform their chosen crafts and interests instead.

Since part of the vote has us going shopping for a swimsuit, I've got a related question that is equally as important. Does anyone know if the surfing jacket Summer Mordred wears in her 3rd Ascension has a specific name?

I think it's just called a wetsuit jacket, unless Mordred decided to wear a regular jacket for whatever reason.

Day 31 Chapter 5
[X] Enetious

You know for a fact that you've made a breakthrough on something with regards to your practice of Isa, but you have no idea what you could have possibly broken through. This is the first time this has happened to you. For all your previous breakthroughs, you either had an innate understanding of, or a practical demonstration of, what your studies had accomplished; not so this time, and for what reason that might be you have no idea.

Well, you think, as you exit the train station, finding yourself within walking distance of The Mall, you'll have time to figure out why that is later. For now...

You weren't sure what convinced you to take Kure Kirika's advice to heart; maybe, deep down, you've come to realize that there's something at work inside her mind after all. It wasn't her idea to turn what should have been an afternoon of practice and preparation into a team-building shopping excursion - that idea was courtesy of Tomoe-san - but she was the one who originally gave you the idea that relaxation could be a component of readiness as well. You're doubtful that you would have ended up with an ulcer like her grandfather did, but she does have a point. If all you did today was concentrate and practice, you would tire yourself out mentally and be even worse-prepared for tonight's battle than if you had done nothing. Your mind needs the chance to rest, to spring back and allow you to put it in a better place, so that when danger strikes your focus is sharp, and not dulled from over-stressing the inevitable.

"Well, how do I look?" Kure Kirika asks, exiting the changing room wearing only a sleek black bikini that proudly displays her curves and leaves little to Mikuni Oriko's imagination. She pirouettes for her audience, before striking several seductive poses and blowing her lover a kiss. "Pretty good, right?"

"You look delicious, dearest," Mikuni Oriko says. Her response is clipped, but her choice of words is obvious. Would you ever do the same; describe Madoka as 'delicious'? Or are they simply that far along in their relationship that they can say things like that to each other? "Now go change back; people are staring."

You had invited McRemitz-san along, out of duty and a sense of politeness, but she declined. At the moment, you're wishing you had chosen to strike out on your own as well. You've got a few things you want to pick up for your friends, and watching another girl's girlfriend try on swimsuits is low on your list of priorities. "Here!" she says, shoving something into your arms before you even have the chance to react. "Try that one on. I think Pinkie'll love seeing you wear that."

Reluctantly, you head into the changing room to see what kid of disaster Kure Kirika has picked out for you. At least she's thinking about other people for a change, even if her taste in fashion is suspect.

It's much more risqué than anything you've ever worn before, despite covering more of your body than the one Kure Kirika picked out for herself - seriously, how can she even call that a swimsuit? if she tried to do any swimming in that thing, it'd fall right off in the water! - and yet the purple side-tie bikini she picked out for you isn't something you despise. Actually, you kind of... Like the way it looks on you? Maybe Kure Kirika's taste in fashion isn't as poor as you had previously thought.

"Well?" You hear someone calling from outside; almost certainly Kyouko. "Ain't ya gonna let us see how ya look?"

"No!" you call back; not because you're embarrassed of the way you look - save for the unsightly surgical scar above your heart - but because your allies can wait until tomorrow to see how you look in your new swimsuit. Yes, this will do just fine, you think, twirling in front of the mirror. Madoka will like how this looks on you.

The clothing store had been a group decision; with the exception of Kyouko, everyone on the team had wanted to pick up some new article of clothing. But at Mikuni Oriko's insistence, the bookstore was the next place that your group visited. Fewer members of the team have something here they want, this time- You see Kure Kirika lazing about idly while her lover browses through the religious section, before breaking off to go stick her nose into a volume of some yuri manga a few aisles down.

"Ya really like that crap?" Kyouko asks, setting aside a translated Wolverine paperback as she saunters over to the other end of the aisle. "I mean, ain't that girl-on-girl stuff just a bunch'a sappy garbage? Or..." Kyouko licks her lips as she leans in, and were you not within earshot - reaching for the same Wolverine paperback that Kyouko had been looking at previously - you're doubtful that you would have heard her ask "... Maybe ya just like looking at the parts where two girls do it?"

"Piss off, will you? Go bug Tomoe if you have to bother someone."

"There's no need for you two to make a scene," you say, hoping to calm the situation before the pair escalate and the five of you are thrown out before you've had the chance to buy what you came here for. "Be respectful. We're a team; this trip was supposed to be a team-building exercise."

"Ain't like we're building much of a team standing around here," Kyouko says. At least your intervention has managed to pull her away from Kure Kirika, but now she's come over your way. "What'd you pick up, huh Spooky?" she asks, leaning in to get a closer look at the hardcover tome in your hands. She motions to it, silently asking "Can I look?" a request which you have no complaints about. "Celtic Myths and Legends?" she asks, reading the name on the cover out loud. "Somehow, I just can't see ya reading this."

"It's for my friend Hitomi, actually," you reply, taking the tome of translated prose and verse back from Kyouko. "She's a fan of poetry, so I thought I might get her something she probably hasn't read before." Unsaid in your explanation, is the hope that by introducing Hitomi to stories about heroes of old - who, in light of what you've come to learn in this timeline, probably did exist at one point in history - you can coax her towards becoming the master of Saber, rather than giving McRemitz-san or Nagatsuki Miyuki the chance.

"Aight, cool. Bit of a weird combination with the Wolverine comic, ain't it?"

"That's for Sayaka." Even though this is the first timeline in which her fondness for American comic book heroes has been known to you, it isn't something you've forgotten, nor have you forgotten that she's currently watching the Wolverine anime that's currently airing. You just hope she doesn't already have this issue.

The last stop in today's shopping trip is the jewellery store, a place that had been at your own insistence. While Mikuni Oriko and Kure Kirika "Ooh, Oriko, look at this one!" look through the store's collection of engagement rings - as if they have any hope of marriage in a country where same-sex unions aren't recognized - you browse the necklaces."I don't care if we have to wait until we're old ladies," Kure Kirika says to her lover, as if she could read your thoughts. "One day, you and I are going to get married."

Tomoe-san leans over the glass counter beside you, asking "Anything you're looking for in particular?" as she joins you in your search.

"I want something that comes apart as two necklaces, that I can get for both Madoka and myself to wear as a couple."

"Jewellery is a bit pricier than the presents you got for Miki-san and Shizuki-san, isn't it?" Tomoe-san asks; does she mean that it isn't worth it to spend that much on Madoka? Does she think your relationship won't last long enough for such an expensive present to be worth it? There's only two weeks left until Walpurgisnacht; do you think your relationship will last that long? "Are you looking for particular designs, or colours? Maybe you want something like a couples' locket, where you and Kaname-san can store a picture of the other inside?"

"I'm looking for something with matching designs," you say, scanning your eyes over the shelves for one that might fit what you're looking for. "Something that's only whole when the two halves are brought together."

"I'm not seeing anything here that matches what you're looking for," Tomoe-san says, pointing to a necklace that, while hardly a perfect match, appears to be the closest thing this store has to what you're looking for. "If you're serious about getting Kaname-san a present, you might have to ask the jeweler to custom-order it for you."

You sigh; if you have to have the piece you were hoping for custom-ordered, then there's no telling when it might arrive; and if it arrives after the first of May, there's a chance that neither you nor Madoka will be in this timeline any more. You'll come back to the matter later, once the crisis has passed and you have the time to sit down and really give this some thought more than the spur-of-the-moment whim that it is. But for right now, there's something else you need to take care of. "Archer, report. It's been all afternoon and I haven't heard anything from either you or Assassin. How is the search going?"

"Not too well, I'm afraid to say. It sounds unbelievable, but neither Assassin nor myself have managed to find any of the witch's emblems, no matter where we looked."

"You're not looking hard enough. They have to be around somewhere, or else the witch won't be able to manifest its familiars in the real world."

"I'll find Assassin and tell her that we're doing another sweep, if you want. But I don't know how much more successful we'll be the second time."

Yeah, I got nothing.

[X] Plan Destroy Elsa Maria's Arts & Crafts Project
-[X] Something with matching designs that's split into two, only whole with both of them together
-[X] (Homura) Ask Tomoe-san if she could ask Caster real quick if he could get a read on if there are any of Elsa Maria's depictions in the city; just a general confirmation that there is something to find, not necessarily where they're at, especially if Elsa Maria's nature makes finding them with Caster's Sha Naqba Imuru unfeasible
--[X] Inform Archer of any relevant information you could get out of Caster through Mami; allow Archer to fan out to whatever areas he'd think could host any of Elsa Maria's depictions
-[X] (Homura) Ask Oriko if she could send out Lancer to help Archer and Assassin track down any depictions that may exist using Berkano
-[X] (Archer) Look for depictions first in the area where Alina is being held, then in notable areas along Mitakihara's leylines such as the Sakura Church; project the Sword of Peleus to give you an edge in this hunt, if there's even anything to find

Since Elsa Maria is erupting from around the riverside, then it's probably safe to assume that she's conncected or drawn to by the leylines to some degree. If Archer and Assassin can't find anything, it's possible that the depictions will only appear when the Witch pops into existence, or maybe they're just missing where to properly look.

EDIT: Added in asking for Lancer

Wait what? Is that how Homura feels about this?

Is what how Homura feels about what? We decided, when Caster gave us the names of potential masters of Saber, that it would be better if Hitomi became the master, because unlike Bazett we can completely trust that she won't be working for a third party's interests rather than in the best interests of the city, and because unlike Miyuki Hitomi is of sound mind and already someone we're close to without having to work at folding her into our inner circle.

Remember, Bazett is working for an organization that we have no reason to trust, and Miyuki is a depressed drunk who's not in her right mind. Meanwhile Hitomi is quite trustworthy and equally as stable.

EDIT: RE, the beach party
Obviously, since not everyone in our circle is an orphan, the remaining parents are going to want there to be some chaperones watching over their daughters. Who are we thinking should do that? All the servants, under the guise of guardians or otherwise? Just one or two; and if so, which ones? Some of the living parents, maybe? What are your guy's thoughts on this?

What are you talking about, everyone knows that Homura will be bringing along her legal guardian, especially since he'll be tutoring a lot of them suring the trip! /s

Not just sarcastic though, also serious. Archer will be the chaperone and will tutor Homura, Madoka, Sayaka, and Hitomi during the trip; just not what their parents are expecting Archer to tutor them in. :p

EDIT: Reread and noticed the plural "chaperones". Their parents are mostly aware of Archer - either from meeting him or from their daughters talking about his cooking/being Homura's guardian - but I wonder who else could go with them to help chaperone to assuage any concerns? Maybe Lancer under the guise of being the Mikuni family's servant/butler (or Maid, if some of them like Kirika would find it funny and manage to convince Lancer)?

Archer was the obvious choice, but I was asking about others as well. Are we going to try selling Lancer and Berserker as Kirika's parents (since Oriko's parents are high-profile corpses); or maybe invite Sayaka's and/or Kirika's mom along as additional adult supervision? Sayaka's mom did once say that she wanted to marry Archer for his cooking, and Kirika could probably use a male role model in her life that's not her dirtbag divorcee dad or her servant, so maybe we want to give her mom a chance to hit on Archer... You know, ignoring the fact that neither Sayaka's nor Kirika's moms are Archer type, of course.

Well, we're inviting SayakaMom and KirikaMom along now. It isn't in question anymore, it shall be done. We need to see the awkwardness and hilarity that ensues from this.

Also if you didn't see my ninja edit, I'm thinking about passing Lancer off as the Mikuni family's servant (be that as a butler or maid, that's up to Oriko and Kirika).

The only downside to inviting the single moms is that, at some point, we'd have no choice but to spill the beans to Sayaka's mom with regards to magic. Kirika's mom already knows, and has no social connection to any of the other moms in Mitakihara, but Sayaka's mom knows the Kanames and Shizukis. And then she might talk to the Kanames and Shizukis, and then we're in a heaping helping of trouble.

I saw your ninja edit, but I'm confused by it. Lancer already is the Mikuni household servant, just like Archer is Homura's legal guardian. We don't have to 'pass her off' as anything.

"At some point" is future Homura and co's problem. Probably post-Walpurgisnacht Homura and co's problem. No need to spill the beans on this trip, though.

EDIT: Oh, you were talking about KirikaMom possibly telling SayakaMom about that. Eh, we'll come to it when it happens, and it's sure to be quite entertaining.

I meant passing her off as the Mikuni household servant as her primary vocation, and not a superpowered ghost summoned to Murder Death Kill for the Holy Grail. :p

I'd think that to be better than trying to pass off Lancer as Oriko's legal guardian when she has her Uncle around; if he caught whiff of that, he'd probably snoop where he really shouldn't snoop, or demand answers from Oriko. Hired help is easier to pass off as something Oriko's father did at some point, at least at first glance.

Sticking to Archer as the legal guardian would be the best. If not Berserker or Rider. Bringing in Sayaka mom or any of the moms except Kirika mom is just asking for trouble at this point and if by any chance magic is spill on the beach trip, Homura and crew gonna have problem they don't need to deal with now with only two weeks left to the endgame.
