That only makes me even more wary of what's to come, actually. 😅

Walpurgisnacht's ability to enact her purpose is massively boosted in this mashed up timeline, so who knows what could come of this?

Day 47 Chapter 1
Day 47 Begin

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever."

Mikuni Oriko concludes her Sunday sermon with a reading of the 23rd Psalm; as with last night's grace, though all heads are bowed few give voice when Mikuni Oriko speaks "Amen."

It was raining heavily when your party set out for the southern seaboard this morning, and now the ground is slick with water. Puddles form in the cracks and divots of the pavement; to be potholes, were this morning to leave enough of the roads intact. Dark storm clouds gather over your head, obscuring the light from the sunless morning and bathing the city in the same grey as if you had already frozen time. Thunder and lightning crack and roar in the distance, drawing ever closer as the hands of time edge closer to eight.

Usually, the order to evacuate is given at seven, and in times long gone you might have even been stopped once or twice by concerned strangers; not so this time. The order to evacuate was given much earlier, an ill omen which forecasts the magnitude of the doom awaiting you. But you will not be facing that doom alone.

You stand at the edge of Mitakihara's southern seaboard, looking out towards the storm clouds approaching over the ocean. Beside you and to your right stands Archer, and stretching out on all sides stand your team of allies; Tomoe-san, Sakura Kyouko, Mikuni Oriko, Kure Kirika, Nagatsuki Miyuki; and their servants, Caster, Rider, Lancer, Berserker, Saber. Assassin, standing at your left, twitches her fingers around the handle of one of her daggers.

"No need to be so jumpy," says the familiar voice of McRemitz-san's Lancer servant. You turn, greeting him and his master. "You didn't think we'd stick around this whole time only to skip out here, did you?"

"You've given us room and board for two weeks," McRemitz-san chimes in. "Least we can do to repay you is make sure you've still got a room to go back to when this is over."

"Are you prepared to lose your lives defending that room and board?"

McRemitz-san nods her head at your question. "I've got to be prepared to die every time I get off the plane for a new mission. I've come close a time or two, but I haven't died yet, and I don't expect this time to be any different."

You remain silent, not wishing to scare McRemitz-san into leaving by telling her that you don't expect this time to be the same as any other time. "Homura-chan..." You can hear Madoka's terrified voice in your mind; she has every right to be scared for you, and you wish you could comfort her now, when she doubtless needs your comfort the most. The thunderclaps are getting louder now, drawing so close as to be right on top of you, and a thick rolling fog competes with the churning of the surf to see which can cover more of your feet. "It's starting," you say. You check the time on your phone. Twelve seconds until the clock strikes eight. Eleven. Doom awaits you on the other side of those storm clouds.

In the past, a raucous procession of colourful animal familiars would have accompanied the witch's arrival, but there is to be none of that here. Black shadows, specters of their former colourful selves, lead the ghastly procession in complete silence. No trumpeting elephants to herald their master's arrival, no sound of stomping feet; just empty silence.

~(5)~

~(3)~

Overhead, the sound of thunder gives way to the maddened cackling which has haunted your nightmares for an eternity, and the sky is split with fire and lightning as the devil makes her approach. It's so much bigger than you remember it being in the past. Six flashes of light follow, as you and your teammates change into your battle costumes. "This time," you say, as a wave of your hand conjures your own procession, one of rocket launchers and machine guns for Berserker to use as he pleases. "I'll end this for sure."

"Not to rain on your parade," Archer says with an outstretched arm. "But, is it supposed to be that big?"

"No," you say. "It's much bigger this time."

"By a lot. If I've done my calculations correctly, that thing's a third of a kilometer wide."

A third of a kilometer... How are you supposed to defeat something that big? "We don't have time to worry about how big it is," Tomoe-san says, stepping up while you're still frozen in shock. "We need a plan to deal with this." Just last night, you had been the one attempting to soothe Tomoe-san's fears; now it's her turn to do the same as you're struck by just how impossible this fight will be. "Akemi-san, we're ready whenever you are."

High above your head, the laughter of Walpurgisnacht echoes to infinity as a black rain falls from its upside-down mouth. The black ichor falls, taking shape is it plummets to the ground, and the droplets form together into the shapes of many figures as they near the ground; black shadows of fallen puella magi, twenty-three in total. So, the witch is bringing its black familiars to bear first in this fight.

Major objectives:
Defeat Walpurgisnacht
Survive

NEW
Major character unlocked!
The stage-constructing witch; her nature is hopelessness. A Beast who represents the Evil of Humanity named hopelessness. The witch's mysteries have been handed down through the course of history; her appellation is "Walpurgisnacht." She will continue to rotate aimlessly throughout the world until she completely changes the whole of this age into despair. When the doll's usual upside-down position reaches the top part of the witch, she completely roils the civilization on the ground in a flash through her gale-like flight.
Minor character unlocked!

The stage-constructing witch's minions. Their duty is to spread misery and despair. Countless souls drawn to her vast magical power. Nobody knows whether Walpurgisnacht was initially a single person, or if it was a phantom born from the gathering of many spirits.

Yes, you read Archer's dialogue correctly. The largest central gear has a diameter of 333 meters.

Each update in this fight is going to represent one "turn" of battle, so for whatever the vote is make sure to take economy of action into account when commanding all our units- And I do mean all of them. Ideally, you're going to be moving all seven masters and eight servants each turn. Walpurgisnacht and her minions will have similar turns where all of them get to move, so don't think you can focus everyone into one point or you'll get blindsided by something you really should have seen coming.

So... before I get started on a plan, what's stopping Homura and co from time-stop blitzing all of the familiars now with eight Servants and focusing on Walpurgisnacht afterwards? Am I just going to make up a plan involving time-stop only for the following chapters to end in a few lines denoting that it doesn't work or something like that? 🤔

No, it will work exactly as intended. There's nothing going on behind the scenes that will completely scuttle our ability to stop time. But there is something going on behind the scenes that will make prolonged use of timestop a death sentence for us, so we should probably curtail our use of it to when it's absolutely necessary. I'll leave it up to you to decide if blitzing these familiars is one of those absolutely necessary moments.

[X] Plan Desperate Fight
-[X] Miyuki: Stands around not sure what she could do, is prepared to move/dodge in a moment's notice
--[X] Saber: Swaps between Book of Fire and Book of Wind to collect information about Walpurgisnacht and its familiars, and relay them to everybody
-[X] Homura: Prepares to time-stop at a moment's notice if things go awry; deploys a heavy armaments for Berserker to use
--[X] Archer: Moves to an advantageous position and first projects "Hazy Inverted Moon - Eleven Styles" to cancel out any disadvantages he has from encountering Walpurgisnacht for the first time; with that done, projects Alcides' "Nine Lives: Shooting the Hundred Heads" and shoots "Boneless Man" from it at Walpurgisnacht
--[X] Assassin: Protect the Masters from any stray physical attacks or enemies flying at them
-[X] Oriko: Deploys the drones and prepares for shields and pew pews at incoming familiars
--[X] Lancer: Focuses on buffing everyone using Primordial Runes
-[X] Kyoko: Counterattacking immaterial attacks using Sowilo, and prepares to rush on into battle spear drawn whenever everyone else decides it's time to get up close and personal; will proactively defend everyone by using her superior reflexes and speed if danger comes to them first
--[X] Rider: Uses his chariot riding at insane speeds to get in close before crushing Walpurgisnacht with the weight of the World using "Akhilleus Kosmos: The Miniature World Enclosed by the Azure Sky"
-[X] Mami: Wunjo's everyone, Servants included; will give fire support and covering fire
--[X] Caster: Raises the shield wall when necessary, supports everyone using his Sovereign of Magical Staves; probes Walpurgisnacht's defenses by using "Melammu Dingir: King's Signal Cannon"
-[X] Kirika: Readies her claws - boosted with her Runes - to extend and strike out at any incoming attacks or familiars
--[X] Berserker: Draws Arondight for the parameter boost (not Arondight-blasting) and prepares to launch off a barrage at an opportune time using the heavy armaments his Master's sister lent to him
-[X] Bazett: "Lancer, by my Command Seal I order you to release your Noble Phantasm and destroy Walpurgisnacht's familiars!"
--[X] OG!Lancer: Uses "Gáe Bolg: Soaring Spear that Strikes with Death"

Soaring Spear that Strikes with Death is OP. It cannot be dodged or blocked, and it is the strongest spear Archer's ever encountered - it's the only spear he's witnessed to ever be capable of piercing more than one layer of Rho Aias, surpassing even the original Gungnir's power. It has a range of at least forty kilometers, but it's implied that OG!Lancer could theoretically have a range long enough to strike at the other side of the Earth. Normally it would be incredibly intensive to use, but by fueling it with a Command Seal Bazett can prevent OG!Lancer from depleting all of his magical energy while also boosting its potency even further. And yes, the amount of targets that he could use this NP on is basically "all the targets", surpassing what he was capable of in life.

Also fun fact to those that don't know, by Caster!Gilgamesh locked away the King's Key which would allow him to further open the Gate of Babylon, and sealed away Ea when he settled down and became King unbeknownst to people who knew his Archer self like Homura's Archer.

Archer deploying his Reality Marble shouldn't have any negative effects on him, even if the corruptive mud reaches into it. Fundamentally, his Noble Phantasm is almost a "Projection" of his inner world, which is why breaking various Noble Phantasms while it's up doesn't erase their existence from Archer's Reality Marble. In fact, by rewriting the laws of Reality Walpurgisnacht might be weakened by it.

Alright, so stage 1 is just setting things up for the most part, as well as attempting to extinguish Walpurgisnacht's forces before they become and problem and probing Walpurgisnacht's defenses. Just as a reminder, Melammu Dingir fires exclusively Noble Phantasms from Gilgamesh's Gate of Babylon that have been Broken, raising their parameters and subsequent destructive potential.

Anyone have anything to add/change?

This is the only part of the plan I currently seem to have any issue with. Wouldn't this disarm him for a while since it involves actually throwing the spear?

Also...

This concerns me. Should I be concerned?

Not for very long. It fires off at Mach 2, and Lancer can telekinetically call it back to him. It'll probably take longer for Caster's Melammu Dingir to run it's course than it would take for Lancer to fire off his NP and retrieve his spear, honestly.
This concerns me. Should I be concerned?
Yes.

I do.
-[X] Homura: Prepares to time-stop at a moment's notice if things go awry; deploys a fighter jet for Berserker to use
I'm using Homura's TV series arsenal as the basis for what she has access to, and she never used a fighter jet. The biggest guns she can give to Berserker would be the GSDF Type 88 Surface-to-Ship Missile launcher. Had we not stopped time to fight Elsa Maria, we could have pilfered at least one of the F-15Js the ASDF sortied, but we didn't, so no fighter jet for us.

But while I'm on the subject of Berserker,
his Master's soon-to-be sister
I went back to the party and added a few extra lines of dialogue. Kirika now admits that we're her sister. If that changes anything, since you never posted relationship changes at the end of yesterday.
--[X] Archer: Moves to an advantageous position and starts the chant to enact his Noble Phantasm

Archer deploying his Reality Marble shouldn't have any negative effects on him, even if the corruptive mud reaches into it.
UBW will go live next turn, and we'll have it for seven turns before it fades, with an eight-turn cooldown before we can use it again, if that changes anything.

No word on the sealing away of Ea part, but I've consistently portrayed Caster as having combat access to the same breadth of Babylon that his Archer version had; hence why he's predominantly attacked stuff with swords instead of magic staves like his FGO counterpart, if that changes any part of your plan with respect to Caster.
This is the only part of the plan I currently seem to have any issue with. Wouldn't this disarm him for a while since it involves actually throwing the spear?
Cu can recall his gay Bulge pretty quickly, but you're right it would leave him vulnerable for the few seconds it would take to toss it. He does, however, have lots of backup from his fellow servants for if when things go awry.
This concerns me. Should I be concerned?
No more concerned than you should be about the rest of the fight as a whole.

Also, why is it that when I quote this part its says JUSTIFY, in the message write up box, but disappears when I actually post the message?
Because last year's Xenforo update took away the ability to justify text automatically, so in order to do it now I have to manually type in the code to justify text. That's what you're picking up.

Hm... idk, it just seems odd to me that Homura wouldn't have pilfered any jets from the JSDF bases she's raided in the past considering she can control vehicles using her magic and basically ignores air resistance that would fling her off any given vehicle. There's no reason she couldn't have tried out jets in the past, anyways.

Aaaand I didn't know that. Go ahead and bump Kirika's rating up to 10.

I mean, minimizing the amount of damage Walpurgisnacht could inflict upon the city is pretty important, and Archer's Reality Marble will have the same amount of firepower to field against Walpurgisnacht regardless of when he pulls her in. Plus in a pinch, Homura could always refresh Archer's Spirit Origin with a Command Seal and have him field his Noble Phantasm once more which is a canonical use of Command Seals.

Gilgamesh, when he was alive, sealed away the King's Key and Ea in preparation of releasing his Noble Phantasms across the world to become the prototypes to many heroes' weapons sometime after he became the Wise King of Uruk - his time as a hero was over, after all. It's why in Babylonia, GIlgamesh had to sacrifice his body as a catalyst in order to summon his Archer Servant incarnation in order to access the King's Key and Ea again, as there was no taking back what he'd done.

Saying that you've portrayed Gilgamesh as having the same breadth of his GoB as his Archer version doesn't really say much, as Gilgamesh rarely ever used the King's Key to open up his GoB any more than it was by default during the entire time that he was summoned/reincarnated (the only real notable time was when he was up against Iskander in Zero, in order to show proper respects to a Hero he acknowledged).

Gilgamesh can still fight by shooting weapons at his foes of course, it's just that he also has the ability to fight with only magical staves rather minimalistically in comparison instead. The latter is more effective, but he's rarely ever had to be effective so far in this quest and usually needed pure firepower such as in the case of Elsa Maria or roided up Berserker-like Servants with magical resistances (Lancelot and Brynhildr).

There's no reason she couldn't have tried out jets in the past, anyways.
True, there's no reason she couldn't have, but for consistency's sake with what I've done for the past 46 days she hasn't. Otherwise, I would have given her a lot more in the way of fun toys or things she could have realistically had but never used in-series, instead of having her stick with the Beretta M9, Howa Type 89, and FN M249.

I'm just making sure you know how UBW will work in this fight. So is this a "Yes, I'm still having Archer use UBW now" or a "I'll hold off on using it for later"?
Gilgamesh, when he was alive...
Just making sure it wouldn't change anything, since I've been portraying Gil's combat ability as his Archer self rather than how FGO portrayed his Caster self, and not knowing my FGO I didn't know if that would change anything for you. Sounds like it doesn't.

Changed it.

Also changed this. Gonna wait a turn or two to see how things change on the battlefield with Walpurgisnacht's advent.

What I put in its stead is Archer first projecting the spear of Houzouin Inshun which will negate any disadvantages that he has tactically for facing off against Walpurgisnacht for the first time. That'll be a great boon during this battle, I think. After that, he'll be breaking out his fancy new bow he got thanks to Alcides and he'll shoot Boneless Man from it. From what both Homura and Archer knows of Walpurgisnacht, the main issue has always been getting through her absurd defenses; with Boneless Man's defense nullification, that shouldn't be an issue... especially with a hundred or so of them.

--[X] Archer: Moves to an advantageous position and first projects "Hazy Inverted Moon - Eleven Styles" to cancel out any disadvantages he has from encountering Walpurgisnacht for the first time
Question- How? How does this work? The page you linked doesn't say a whit about how it 'cancels out disadvantages' or even what qualifies as a 'disadvantage.' It just gives empty platitudes about gods and buddhas without explaining anything. So how is this supposed to work? Does the spear automatically info-dump everything Archer needs to know into his brain?

I'm not entirely sure myself, but if I had to decide on something it'd probably be that the Noble Phantasm "guides" the user in a way that they are caught flat-footed by new things that may arise in battle, such as a particular attack or ambush. Or perhaps you could say that it's instinctual, that certain movements of the enemy may give hint to an attack that the user wasn't already aware of (such as the rearing of a dragon's head to signify a breath attack despite not knowing that dragons breath fire).

I doubt that it'd be anything obvious, just a little something to keep Archer on his toes. A more specific example of this would probably be getting a feeling on whether or not Walpurgisnacht will try and dodge a specific kind of attack, or throw up a barrier, or not be affected by certain attacks as Archer thinks to try them out. Kind of like Eye of the Mind, but with some extra instinctual knowledge provided by the Noble Phantasm to be as if Archer's encountered such an enemy before. 🤔

But then I run into the obvious problem of "How do I portray this in writing?" when the focus shifts away from Archer, and since most of the focus in this fight is probably going to be on Homura, that's a question that'll need to be tackled of else it'll just look like I'm brushing this off.

And like I said above, it'd probably be best to portray it as a little thing that'll help Archer out in a pinch, additional instincts about his enemy that he didn't have before.

It makes sense I think, considering the NP in question is meant to counteract the downsides of facing off against an enemy that you've never faced off before. It wouldn't be anything overt or grand, it would just make Archer that bit more effective at combating such a foe which he's never faced before, granting him instincts enough to dodge a previously unused attack or to help the others do the same by shouting out a warning.

Sorry I keep hitting you with these one at a time, but there's not much else for me to do while I wait for everyone else to come along and vote, so...

Another question- How is the spear hitting both Wally and her familiars? The familiars are here on the ground, while Wally is floating a few kilometers above our heads. Wally and her familiars are also on the same vertical axis, so it's not like Cu could throw his Gay Bulge at one target, then have it hit the other on its way down/up.

... Huh, you're right. Edited the vote so that Lancer's only targeting Walpurgisnacht's familiars - there's a bunch of other people already targeting Walpurgisnacht directly anyways, so his attack would probably only just get in the way.
