Day 46 Chapter 3
[X] Plan Fruits of Their Labour

"We really have to stop meeting like this."

Nurse Ortensia mutters her words under her breath, hiding them inside her cup of tea as she brings it up to her lips. "What was that?" you ask her, pretending that you didn't hear her.

"Nothing." The two of you stare at each other in awkward silence, until the silence is broken when Nurse Ortensia says "And I suppose you're going to ask me about how dinner went." She rolls her eyes, making less of an effort to hide her words as she adds "Kure certainly didn't waste any time asking me."

"I actually wasn't." You smirk, seeing your chance to respond to Nurse Ortensia the only way she seems to know how. You say to her "But since you seem so enthused about telling me, how was your dinner last night?"

"Oriko is a lousy host," Nurse Ortensia says. You don't know if you should have expected an answer like that from her or not, given what MikunI Oriko told you last night. "I'm not really sure how to explain it. But, it's almost as if she's not entirely in control of the things she says." What you will take note of, however, is the way Nurse Ortensia used her cousin's first name, when just a few days ago she was still 'Mikuni' to Nurse Ortensia. "All throughout dinner, she had the nerve to keep pestering me about whatever came to her mind. 'Tell me about your family' 'Can I confess my sins to you?' 'Do you want to stay in contact after tonight?'" Nurse Ortensia shakes her head. "She talks too much for her own good. My other relatives would love her."

"In other words, dinner was a success."

"For one of us, at least."

"Of course," you say. You'll leave things with Nurse Ortensia at that, and as you exit her office, a chilling thought strikes you. When Kirika marries Mikuni Oriko, that would make you Mikuni Oriko's sister-in-law; and would also make Nurse Ortensia a distant relation as well. You've still got the rest of the day ahead of you, and you don't want to ruin it for yourself by thinking about how being related would go over with Nurse Ortensia.

Madoka is waiting for you outside of Nurse Ortensia's office with a smile on her face. "Ready to head back to class now, Homura-chan?" she asks, offering her hand to you.

You smile, taking the offered hand into your own as you say "Yes. We should hurry if we want to make it back to class before the teacher gets there."

"Man! I'm glad that's over!" Mochizumi-san makes a dramatic show of stretching her arms as class ends and you make your way to the cafeteria. "I just hope we didn't bomb the assignment or anything; that would really suck."

"I don't think that's likely," Satomi Kaede says. "We all put forth our best effort. I don't imagine we'll get a bad grade at all on our project."

"I don't know if the same can be said for Sayaka," you say, as your eyes flit in the direction of the distressed Blueberry. You shake your head, saying more to yourself than to your partners "She really got in over her head with that one." At least this time, getting in over her head didn't wind up being fatal for her. "I hope her group doesn't get too bad of a grade."

"Oh man, I totally bombed that assignment!" you hear Sayaka exclaim to Madoka and Hitomi as they pass you in the hall. "I just know it! Why'd I have to go and strong-arm my group into picking something we couldn't even read?" Sayaka tilts her head up to the ceiling, muttering to herself "Man, I was so stupid."

"Don't be so hard on yourself, Sayaka-chan," Madoka says, smiling for her taller friend, even though you can see in her eyes that Madoka probably didn't do much better on her own project. "One bad grade isn't going to make or break the entire term for you. You'll be able to come back, I know you will."

"Yeah, but what if I don't?"

"Then take your failure and use it as motivation to do better next time," you say. As though you're one to talk. You wave goodbye to Mochizumi-san as she and Satomi Kaede break away to join their own circles in the cafeteria, saying to her "I'll see you after class for practice,"" before returning your attention to your own circle. "Now, since I've already heard how Sayaka did, perhaps Madoka and Hitomi would be willing to share next?"

You ask mostly to have something to talk about with Madoka; Hitomi, even after choosing a difficult book you can already guess how her group did with her at the helm. "I don't think my group did too good either," Madoka replies. "I'm not that good at English, so I hope I wasn't holding them back. I'd feel really bad if we got a bad grade because of me."

You and your friends make your way to the usual table, and are surprised to find a rare visitor. "Good afternoon everyone," Tomoe-san says, waving as you and your friends sit down beside her. "I'm sorry that I've been absent recently; I've been taking Akemi-san up on her suggestion that I should be more proactive in making connections with my classmates, and lunch makes the perfect opportunity to get to know them."

"Have you been enjoying your efforts, Tomoe-san?" asks Hitomi. When Tomoe-san responds with a nod, Hitomi says "I'm glad. A new friend is always a pleasant surprise."

"Found any boys yet?" Sayaka asks, wiggling her eyebrows. "Are they cute?"

"I've found a few I could see myself with," Tomoe-san replies. "But I think I'll give myself a little more time to think about each of them before I decide to commit to anything."

"That's good."

"What's up?" Kirika asks, making her appearance just as you and your friends are getting acquainted with the cafeteria seating. "Everyone coming to the party tonight?"

"Well, if Homura-chan invited me, how could I say no?"

"Yeah," Sayaka adds. "And since Kyouko invited me as well, I guess I'd better not disappoint her by missing out."

Kirika nods her head, saying "Cool, cool," in response to Madoka and Sayaka, but not necessarily to them. She turns to you once she's got her lunch unpacked - for a first attempt by her mother, presumably, it doesn't look too terrible. Amateurish, certainly, but edible none the less - and says "So, I got your message earlier today. The Wii's already packed up so I can't bring that, but I do know Oriko's bringing something really nice." Her eyes shift back and forth as if on lookout, and her voice shifts to a whisper as she says "Oriko told me that Nurse O's gonna do all sorts of weird religious stuff to her after school today, and for part of that she's gotta bring some of her dad's wine with her. We could all get drunk if we wanted."

"Don't you think that's irresponsible of us, Kure-san?" Tomoe-san asks. "I don't think any of us would appreciate having to face tomorrow with a hangover; and besides, we're all underage. Mikuni-san's religious ceremonies aside, we shouldn't be drinking no matter the reason."

Kirika rolls her eyes at Tomoe-san's dismissal, and says "Come on, Tomoe, we fight monsters ripped straight from a horror manga on, like, a daily basis. What's a little wine gonna do to us that some witch won't do a hundred times worse?"

"My parents gave me permission to join you all tonight," HItomi says, looking more than a little ruffled by the way the conversation has turned. "But I don't think they'd appreciate me going to a party where there's going to be underage drinking. If this is what you've planned for the night, then you can count me out."

"There won't be," Tomoe-san says, with stern eyes locked squarely on Kirika. "As I said, Mikuni's religious ceremonies aside, none of us will be drinking tonight." You know Kirika will likely protest; you've heard this conversation before from the two of them, and you know where it goes. "I don't care if you've already had alcohol before, Kure-san. Until you're of age, you won't be drinking in my apartment."

Kirika sighs, rolling her eyes as a defeated "Fine," escapes her mouth, while you try to think of a way to change the subject.

"Well, discounting you bringing your Wii, are there any other games you-" or anyone else in attendance tonight, you don't care "-might be able to bring tonight?"

"Nah, the Wii's all I've got," Kirika says. "But maybe one of them-" Bobbing her head, Kirika gestures to each of your friends. "-has something?"

"I've got a bunch of handhelds," Sayaka says. "But, I mostly use them for playing Pokemon. I mean, I guess we could take turns battling each other, if mom'll let me borrow one of hers, but aside from that..." Sayaka's voice trails off, before her focus narrows onto you and she says "Hey, what about that copy of Pokemon Black I got you as a late birthday present? You've got that, right? How far are you?"

"With everything that's been going on lately, I haven't had the time to play it," you say. You feel bad; Sayaka is talking to you again, and here you having not even touched the present she gave you. "I know it's not a perfect solution since it's still just a one-player game, but if you'd like I could ask Archer to bring it over to Tomoe-san's apartment once we're all settled in. Maybe we could figure out a way for eight people to play?"

Sayaka shrugs. "Maybe," she says. When she and Kirika slide into a discussion of videogames, you decide to check the replies to your earlier message.

<Mikuni Oriko: It may not be to everyone's tastes, but I have plenty of my vegetarian green curry leftover from last night's dinner. I could bring that if Tomoe-san didn't want to cook for us all.>
<Tomoe-san: Much appreciated, Mikuni-san. I was still planning on doing at least a little cooking, but if you bring your leftovers that'll certainly lighten my load. Do you also have any desserts made, by any chance?>
<Nagatsuki Miyuki: Count me out for tonight. My parents, obviously, but even if they'd let me go I'd still prefer to spend the night with my friends. I'll see everyone tomorrow morning.>
<Mikuni Oriko: Afraid not, Tomoe-san. I have some ice cream, but not enough for all of us.>
<Kirika: Ice cream! Ice cream! You're the best, Oriko!>
<Tomoe-san: Well, it sounds like you'll be bringing it regardless, Mikuni-san.>
<Kyouko: Hell, Ill eat it even if thers not enough 4 every1>

You put your phone away. Those girls, you think to yourself. At the start of this timeline, you couldn't have imagined how things would turn out. Now, you can't imagine how you could ever go back to working alone. It's all thanks to the person who encouraged you to be proactive. "Hey dad, Mikuni Oriko is bringing her vegetarian green curry to the party tonight. If you're not too busy waiting for your girlfriend to get out of work, do you think you could make something that pairs well with that when you get the chance?"

"Your attempt to embarrass me has fallen short,"
Archer replies. "But yes, I'd be happy to whip something up for you girls. I've got to stop at Tomoe's regardless to get the rest of you fitted for your protective charms, don't I?"

"Thanks, dad."

... What. That was a thing? o_O

[X] Plan Party Prelude
-[X] Telepathically relay to Archer what Oriko's bringing, and ask him if he could prepare something for you to bring to the party as well while he's waiting for his girlfriend~ to get out of work
--[X] Thank Dad regardless of his response
-[X] Any last words to say to the archery club at practice?
--[X] Get all of their phone numbers if you don't have them already, and make a Archery Club group chat because you can; if they really want to make it past Shirome and beyond, they'll have to spend more than the bare minimum of time practicing their skills with one another
--[X] Ask Shinji his thoughts on the team's progress so far, and what they could do to better simulate the tournament environment they'll all be playing in
--[X] Whisper to Nico that you can't believe how oblivious he is to Nico's affections; if he would just confess to Tomoe-san so that she could gently let him down...
--[X] Asking Harou about his female cousin, and if she goes to school here at Mitakihara as well
--[X] Encourage Daigo to try and get to know his next-door neighbor, as even if the rest of her family is scary if he never tries to get to know her he'll never have a chance, period
---[X] How's his sister doing, by the way?
-[X] Do you plan on attending Oriko's initiation after classes and club are over?
--[X] Text Oriko asking her if she'd like you to come as emotional support, or if she'd much rather it be a more private affair considering the nature of it
-[X] Anything else?
--[X] Get ready for the party; make yourself look good so that you could woo Madoka
---[X] Does Madoka want to walk to the party together?

I just had a thought/crazy theory, but what if Daigo's neighbors are actually part of the Yakuza that Homura regularly steals from? Maybe that's why he finds most of that family "scary"? I wouldn't imagine that the Great Mitakihara Yakuza Theft of 2011 would help much with that. That might make the girl he likes a Yakuza princess, right? :V

... What. That was a thing?
Hitomi's birthday was 31 March, and Madoka had the idea of celebrating hers, ours, and Kyousuke's at the same time since Homura and he both had March birthdays that were spent in the hospital. Nothing came of that, but Sayaka did get us a birthday present that we promptly forgot about because we had Assassin, rehabilitating Oriko and Kirika, and Elsa Maria's cult to worry about in relatively short order. I don't blame you for not remembering; it was back in the first thread and may have even been before you arrived, but it was a thing that happened, yes.

Her eyes shift back and forth as if on lookout, and her voice shifts to a whisper as she says "Oriko told me that Nurse O's gonna do all sorts of weird religious stuff to her after school today, and for part of that she's gotta bring some of her dad's wine with her. We could all get drunk if we wanted."

Really, Kirika? One of your teammates is a recovering alcoholic and you want to get everyone drunk? I know you don't really can about Miyuki that much, but come on girl!

[X] Plan Party Prelude

While I type up the next update, I've got a question for each of you; and I do mean each of you, so I want to see more than just Enetious contributing to the discussion- In what area of combat does each member of our team need the most improvement in?

...

My snap judgement is, Kyoko and Kirika are weakest in range, Mami, Oriko and Homura need work in Melee and Miyuki just needs more experience in combat situations.

But I'm not sure how accurate this assessment is.

My snap judgement is, Kyoko and Kirika are weakest in range
... You sure about that? :V

Going in order:
Homura is weakest in melee, and will soon be without a trump card that won't instantly Witch her out without assistance (time-stop).

Mami is great all around, though technically weakest in melee (she can bat around and shoot enemies with her muskets in close range, but she can't put down harder targets like Witches in melee). Her overconfidence in battle is something that could always be addressed, considering it got her killed in canon - I doubt Caster!Gilgamesh is helping much in that regard.

Kyoko has a "stab 'em till they die" philosophy, and it works for her really well. Whether it be in melee or in range (with her barrier chains), she's an amazing combatant much like Mami. Her weakest point is her esoteric abilities, which are necessary a lot of the time in this new combined universe.

Oriko is a pushover in melee, no doubt about it. She's not particularly quick or agile, either.

Kirika is a monster in melee combat - though we seldom get to see that in action in this quest. She also has her so-far unshowcased "Vampire Fang" attack that'll allow her to attack at range with her extremely deadly claws, which may I remind everyone is now buffed by Runes in true vampire-like fashion. What Kirika lacks is combat screen-time, as well as something that'll be effective against Walpurgisnacht.

Miyuki is a newbie, and needs all the combat experience that she can get. She also lacks in finishers, and requires others to finish targets.

Homu has her reliance on time stop that we've only further emphasised

Rest of the girls have comparatively weak minds, so them seeing Walp burn down a couple dozen people who couldn't retreat in time may cause them to falter.

Other then that what nms said

Her overconfidence in battle is something that could always be addressed, considering it got her killed in canon - I doubt Caster!Gilgamesh is helping much in that regard.

IIRC, it wasn't overconfidence. Her head just wasn't fully in the game because, moments before the fight, Madoka agreed to make a wish and fight alongside her.

Going in order:
Homura is weakest in melee, and will soon be without a trump card that won't instantly Witch her out without assistance (time-stop).
Which of these is more important, do you think? Lack of a melee option, or lack of a trump card that doesn't kill her?
Mami is great all around, though technically weakest in melee (she can bat around and shoot enemies with her muskets in close range, but she can't put down harder targets like Witches in melee).
Fortunately, of all the girls Mami's melee weakness is the one I can most easily correct for. But I'll be saving that surprise for the sequel.
Oriko is a pushover in melee, no doubt about it. She's not particularly quick or agile, either.
Correction: Mami and Oriko are the two I can most easily course correct for.
Kyoko has a "stab 'em till they die" philosophy, and it works for her really well. ... Her weakest point is her esoteric abilities, which are necessary a lot of the time in this new combined universe.
What do you recommend be the course correction here?
Kirika is a monster in melee combat ... She also has her so-far unshowcased "Vampire Fang" attack that'll allow her to attack at range with her extremely deadly claws

... You sure about that?
You mean, the clawed chain attack I keep referencing Kirika as using in combat? That Vampire fang? Yeah, she's shown it off plenty, she just hasn't named it that in this universe. Instead, that name's gone to her mana-draining claw attack, on account of that being a much more fitting attack for the name.

Also, I'm really surprised to hear Iguchi Yuka doing her deep sexy voice for Kirika instead of her cute voice.
Her overconfidence in battle is something that could always be addressed, considering it got her killed in canon
IIRC, it wasn't overconfidence. Her head just wasn't fully in the game because, moments before the fight, Madoka agreed to make a wish and fight alongside her.
That's a bingo. She's showing off for Madoka because she's hyped up at the prospect of no longer being alone, which is causing her to be reckless and sloppy because her head's no longer in the game. According to a 2013 NitroPlus interview,
Rest of the girls have comparatively weak minds, so them seeing Walp burn down a couple dozen people who couldn't retreat in time may cause them to falter.
Oh, if only a couple dozen people were the worst thing for the girls to see tomorrow.

While melee would be nice, she did just fine without it in the Wraith timeline even if she was still overly relying on her ranged capabilities. The trump card one is the most important, I think (Finitora Freccia Minore kind of works, but that's best for targeting stationary/large targets than anything else and it's still quite expensive; against other Puella Magi, I'm not so sure).
What do you recommend be the course correction here?
Ideally? Getting her Wish Magic back by getting her to not regret her decisions, and to not blame herself for what happened. Couldn't she make solid clones that could use her abilities with that Magic?

Other than that, developing her Sowilo rune would be a start. Or maybe a bodily enhancement rune so that she can be an even greater threat on the battlefield. Perhaps she could use Sowilo with her spears and/or her giant spear to have a grand finisher? Idk.

Idk, I always imagined that being relatively short-ranged, like throwing claws on a chain short-ranged instead of the transformative serrated chain of blades that extends as much as Kyoko's barrier chains. 🤔

Oh, if only a couple dozen people were the worst thing for the girls to see tomorrow.

Uhoh.

Well, let's hope shock stops them all from witching out long enough to kill walp. Either that or ask Gil and Oriko for some precog assist to keep them away from the worst of the bodies (e.g highways).

Time stop may still be useful even after walp adapts to it if only to force give some of them grief seeds.

Day 46 Chapter 4
[X] Plan Party Prelude

"I was thinking," you say, as club practice - possibly the last club practice you'll have in this timeline - wraps up for the afternoon. It can't be. You won't let it be. "If we're hoping to beat Shirome and go as far as we can, we'll probably want to practice more frequently than just after classes for an hour every other day." You reach into your school bag for your phone, saying "If you'd like, we can exchange phone numbers. I can set up a group chat for all of us so we can organise practices outside of school hours."

"You know, that's not a bad idea," Tanaka Haruo says. Turning to Kasuga-san, he asks "Hey Shin, what do you think?"

Kasuga-san nods, looking to the other members of the archery club; Mochizumi-san and Suzuhara Daigo both nod their heads. "I'd say it sounds like a good idea," he says.

The other club members gather to give you their numbers, which you enter into your phone. Hanging behind after the others have retreated, Mochizumi-san whispers in your ear "You know, I never thought it'd be because of you that I'd get Shinji's number. You're a godsend, Akemi."

You nod your head, responding with "I really can't believe how oblivious he is to your affections."

"Maybe if he'd just talk to Tomoe-san like I've been trying to get him to do..."

"Captain!" Mochizumi-san freezes as you call for Kasuga-san, only relaxing when you ask him "How would you rate our progress so far?" rather than the words she no doubt must have been expecting to hear from you. "Also, is there anything else we should be doing, going forward, to better simulate what our meets against the other teams will be like?"

"I'd say we're in pretty good shape," Kasuga-san replies. "We're probably nowhere near close enough to Shirome at the moment, but we're so far ahead from where we were against Kobe last year that, even if we lose, at least it won't be an embarrassing blowout." That's good to hear, and beside you Mochizumi-san breathes an exaggerated sigh of relief; the scars of their defeat at Kobe still burn strongly. "As for what else we can do to improve..." Kasuga-san cups a hand to his chin in thought, until "Maybe we could hold a mock-tournament? As in, instead of just us practicing under tournamet rules, we'd compete amongst each other as if we were at a real event?"

"Don't tell me, Shin," Tanaka Haruo says. "We're upping the training regimen again? Man, you're just as bad as my gramps sometimes."

"Aw, can it, Haru!" Kasuga-san calls out. "You should be grateful I'm even putting forth the effort to train your lazy behind." The pair share a smirk at Ksauga-san's ribalding. This is hardly the first time you've seen the pair like this; you don't think you'll ever understand friendship between boys.

But you do understand family; as Kasuga-san and Tanaka Haruo finish laughing at the other's jabs, you ask the latter "Does your cousin also attend school here? I'm curious to know if she'll be cheering you on next Sunday."

"Yeah, Yuki goes to school here," Tanaka Haruo says. So his cousin's name is Yuki? You wrack your brain for any recognition of the name Tanaka Yuki, finding nothing. "She's a third-year like Shin and I, but she's not in our class. Not in Tomoe's class either, now that I think about it."

"Do you and she get along?"

"Better than me and gramps, that's for sure," Tanaka Haruo says. "I mean, we fight sometimes, but it's never as bad as when gramps and I go at it. But I'll bet you and Kure get into fights sometimes too, right? That's just how it is."

"We've gotten a lot better about it," you say. You won't say anything about how things used to be. Even though it was only a month ago, it feels like an eternity since you saw the last of that Kure Kirika; and speaking of Kirika... "Oi!" Tanaka Haruo shouts as the figure of a person appears at the boundary of the school grounds. "What's a Shirome student doing here? You looking to spy on us for the match next Sunday?"

"Beg your pardon?" the familiar voice of the approaching figure says. "My older cousin is the nurse here; I've just come by to visit her, that's all. I'm not here to spy on you."

"You know, now that I look at you..." Tanaka Haruo squints his eyes dramatically, sizing Mikuni Oriko up as though she were a choice cut of wagyu. "You do kinda look like Nurse O. I've always had a bit of a thing for her, so if you'd like, maybe when you're done saying hi we could grab a coffee or something?"

"While I'm sure you're a gentleman, I must disappoint you." Mikuni Oriko smiles, saying "I'm a lesbian, and I'm quite happy with my girlfriend."

Tanaka Haruo breaks away, tears streaming down his face as he mutters something about the unfairness of the world. "I was going to text you, but since you're here I guess I'll ask you in person," you say to Mikuni Oriko. "Would you like me to come watch your initiation when I'm done here, or would you prefer to keep things just between you and Nurse Ortensia?"

"I wouldn't be opposed to having you watch us," Mikuni Oriko says. "I've already invited Kirika to watch, and I suppose having one more person wouldn't be a bad thing." Mikuni Oriko smiles, adding "The moral support of my friends is always welcome."

"Alright. Just give me a moment to finish up here and I'll join you shortly," you say. "Nurse Ortensia's office is on the second floor, just across the bridge. You probably won't miss it, but if you get lost let me know and I'll guide you there."

"Thank you, Akemi-san."

Mikuni Oriko heads off in the direction you showed her, while you return to your team to help finish packing up for the day. "You should talk to your neighbor some time," you say to Suzuhara Daigo when the chance presents itself. "I know her sisters scare you, but if you think she likes you then you've got nothing to lose by speaking up."

"I know," Suzuhara Daigo says. "But... I don't know. I'm not very good at talking to girl."

"You talk to Mochizumi-san and I just fine."

"Yeah, but that's different. You two-"

"-Don't like you romantically?" you ask. Suzuhara Daigo nods his head. "I know it's hard to speak up when you're afraid of being rejected. But if you don't take that chance and speak up, you'll never know if you could have had that chance, and you might end up regretting it later. Life's too short to go through it with too many regrets." When a noncommittal "I guess you're right," is the only response it appears you'll receive, you change topic, instead asking "How's your sister doing?"

"She's doing fine," Suzuhara Daigo says. "The doc's taking her cast off in a couple of days, and she'll be back on her feet giving mom and I a hard time by the time we face Shirome."

"I'm glad to hear that. Do you think she'll be coming to the meet on Sunday?"

"Probably." Suzuhara Daigo smiles for you, taking the load of equipment in your hands from you as he says "Go on, you've kept your friend waiting long enough. We'll finish up from here."

"Thanks," you say. Without delay, you grab your bag and take off for Nurse Ortensia's office; and if necessary, you'll help Mikuni Oriko find the way there if she's gotten lost.

Fortunately, you don't have to help Mikuni Oriko find her way, and when you arrive at Nurse Ortensia's office, "Were you planning on inviting the entire team?" Nurse Ortensia asks her cousin as you cross the threshold into the office you know so very well. "We're still missing Tomoe and Kure, aren't we? Where are they?"

"Tomoe-san already told me she won't be coming," Mikuni Oriko says. "But it's strange for Kirika not to be here. She said she would be. I hope everything's all right."

"Sorry I'm late!" Speak of Kure Kirika, and she shall appear. Kirika bursts through the closed door of the office, presenting Oriko with a bouquet of flowers as she bows in apology for her tardiness. "I would have been back sooner, but the line at the flower shop was really long."

Mikuni Oriko smiles at the sight of the flowers her lover has brought for her. "You didn't have to do that for me, dearest," she says, kissing Kirika's forehead. "But all the same I'm so glad you did. They're lovely."

"Is this a baptism, or a luncheon?" Nurse Ortensia asks, rolling a jar of scented oils back and forth on her desk. "I went through all the trouble of finding this stuff for you, and I'm not letting you leave until I've poured it all over your head."

"Thank you, Caren-san," Mikuni Oriko says, handing the flowers back to Kirika and breaking away from her to face Nurse Ortensia. "Alright, I'm ready."

Mikuni Oriko kneels, clasping her hands together in prayer as Nurse Ortensia stands over her. "Dost thou renounce Satan?" she asks Mikuni Oriko. "And all his works? and all his pomps?" To each interrogation, Mikuni Oriko answers with a resounding "I do renounce." Nurse Ortensia nods, filling a plastic cup with water from the nearby cooler. You notice, being so inclined as to look, that the water cooler has been hastily modified with the addition of a taped-on sign which reads "Holy Water." "Then I baptise you, Mikuni Oriko, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit," throwing water from the plastic cup into Mikuni Oriko's face after each recitation.

Next, without giving Mikuni Oriko the chance to dry her face, Nurse Ortensia moves on, unscrewing the cap on the jar of oils and releasing its strong scent into the office. A look of pleasure crosses her face, as she pours the contents of the jar over Mikuni Oriko's head. "Receive you the spiritual seal, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding and courage, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the Spirit of holy fear in God's presence," Nurse Ortensia says. "Guard what you have received. God our Father has marked you with his sign; Christ the Lord has confirmed you and has placed his pledge, the Spirit, in your heart."

Nurse Ortensia turns around, giving Mikuni Oriko just enough time to blink the oil away from her eyes before asking "Now, did you bring the wine and crackers?"

"Yes," Mikuni Oriko says, retrieving them from her bag and presenting them to her cousin. "I hope these are suitable. They were the closest I could find in the store."

Nurse Ortensia doesn't even bother looking at the box of crackers Mikuni Oriko hands her, saying "We're working with what we can. I'm sure it's good enough." Mikuni Oriko nods, as Nurse Ortensia pours a small amount of wine into her plastic cup, offering it and a single cracker to her cousin. Mikuni Oriko accepts them, and Nurse Ortensia says "Christ said, 'Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me and I in them. Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so whoever eats me will live because of me. It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is profits nothing.' This holy Eucharist completes your Christian initiation, Mikuni Oriko."

"Yay, Oriko!" Kirika cheers. "Congratulations!"

With tears in her eyes, Mikuni Oriko says "Thank you, Caren-san," as she stands proud, tightly wrapping her arms around her cousin. "Thank you."

Nurse Ortensia smiles, saying "You're getting my shirt wet," but does nothing to reject her cousin's grateful affections.

Since Madoka has one of her clubs today, we can grab her as soon as we finish up with Oriko's initiation, and the four of us can all swing by Mami's apartment together.

[X] Plan Party Sponsored By Tomoe-san And Caster
-[X] See if you can find a towel so Oriko isn't dripping wet all the way to the party
--[X] ... couldn't you just use your hammerspace to pick up all the oil that's still on Oriko?
--[X] Ask how Oriko is feeling after all that; you used to go to a Catholic school, so you have some idea of what she just went through
-[X] Pick up your girlfriend from the Gardening & Crafts club
--[X] Did she do gardening or crafts today? They alternate activities on club days, right?
-[X] Did Dadcher prepare anything for the party for you to take along with you? If so, drop by your apartment and pick it up on the way to Tomoe-san's (or if he has to time, have him drop it off at Tomoe-san's)
-[X] Go to the party (activities TBD depending on the circumstances over there)

Probably should get through the usual introductory phase of the event before we decide on activities/conversation topics with people.

And get everything else in our shield sticky with scented oils? A towel would be better, no doubt.

It's two separate clubs, Gardening, and Arts&Crafts. She has clubs Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday, but for the life of me I can't remember which one she has which days and I can't seem to find it either. I checked the days the information was most likely to be given to us, but I haven't found it. I'm wondering if I never had Madoka tell us, and only mentioned it outside of a threadmark.

I don't know, did he?

The stuff Homura hammerspace doesn't mix, otherwise she have died many many times over by now. :p

-[X] Telepathically relay to Archer what Oriko's bringing, and ask him if he could prepare something for you to bring to the party as well while he's waiting for his girlfriend~ to get out of work
--[X] Thank Dad regardless of his response

I was trying to ask, "What is Archer bringing?" but you apparently missed that in your attempt to be coy.
I actually didn't get that, sorry. It seemed as if you just overlooked it since there was nothing in the last update mentioning it. :p

Looking up some japanese party dishes, Archer could do:
Kushikage, which could include dried meats or vegetables making it Oriko-friendly.
Sukiyaki, cooking the beef separately so that people could top the hotpot selectively.
Karage, for anybody but Oriko possibly in addition to an Oriko-friendly option.
Edamame, a popular and cheap snack food consisting of young soybeans.
Toshikoshi Soba, normally eaten during New Years Eve festivities symbolizing "forgetting the hardships of the year" or "letting go and moving forward"; seems appropriate either before or after Walpurgisnacht.

But did I, or did you just not notice when I added that in?
"Hey dad, Mikuni Oriko is bringing her vegetarian green curry to the party tonight. If you're not too busy waiting for your girlfriend to get out of work, do you think you could make something that pairs well with that when you get the chance?"

"Your attempt to embarrass me has fallen short,"
Archer replies. "But yes, I'd be happy to whip something up for you girls. I've got to stop at Tomoe's regardless to get the rest of you fitted for your protective charms, don't I?"

"Thanks, dad."
