Day 46 Chapter 5
[X] Plan Party Sponsored By Tomoe-san And Caster

"This holy Eucharist completes your Christian initiation, Mikuni Oriko."

"Yay, Oriko!" Kirika cheers fr her lover as Nurse Ortensia completes the sacraments to initiate Mikuni Oriko into the faith. "Congratulations!"

With tears in her eyes, Mikuni Oriko says "Thank you, Caren-san," as she stands proud, tightly wrapping her arms around her cousin. "Thank you."

Nurse Ortensia smiles, saying "You're getting my shirt wet," but does nothing to reject her cousin's grateful affections. However, the lack of rejection does not stop Mikuni Oriko from pulling away, but before she has a chance to offer apologies a handful of paper towels is thrust into her face. "You can wipe yourself off now."

Mikuni Oriko does so, wiping down her face and the top of her head, before throwing the used paper towels into the garbage. "Thank you, Caren-san."

"You've thanked me three times as much as you needed to."

"And I would thank you more than that still," Mikuni Oriko says. "You didn't have to do any of this, but you did. You went though all this trouble for me, and for that I am grateful." With no more chance to wet her cousin's shirt again, Mikuni Oriko gives Nurse Ortensia another hug. "You are a good person, Caren-san, no matter how you try to present yourself otherwise."

Again, Nurse Ortensia makes no move to reject Mikuni Oriko's affections, waiting before the two have separated before saying "Now if we're done here, I'd ask you to take your friends and leave unless one of you is dying of a terminal illness."

"Of course."

You lead a pair of hand-holding lovers out of Nurse Ortensia's office. "Madoka has one of her clubs today, so we're going to pick her up before heading to Tomoe-san's apartment," you say. You're glad you told her that you might be a few minutes late, though you hope she hasn't been waiting too long for you. "How are you feeling?" you ask Mikuni Oriko. "I think the school I was enrolled in last year to would have expected me to go through what you did, but since I spent the year in the hospital I never did. What was it like?" It didn't look very comfortable, or even all that professional of a job; you have to remind yourself that Nurse Ortensia isn't like normal people, and that she was working with limited supplies on account of there being no church nearby.

"I feel like I've been born again," Mikuni Oriko replies. Beside her, Kirika's smile hasn't left her face at all since congratulating her. "Granted, I'm not sure where to go from here."

You shrug, suggesting "Maybe it's enough just to be a good person." A wayward glance down at the ring on your finger reminds you "The lives we live are already in violation of God's prohibition on magic that doesn't come from Him. You'll probably have to make some mental concessions regarding how you can live as both a puella magi and as a good Christian if you want to reconcile those two parts of you and remain who you are. Hopefully it's enough for Him that you live the life of as good a person as you can be."

Mikuni Oriko nods her head, saying "Caren-san said the same thing to me last night, that I would face difficulties for who I am. But if the Lord wished to put those challenges before me then I shall not let them cause my convictions to waver. But, there is something else Caren-san said to me, that's given me something to think about." You turn your head; whatever Nurse Ortensia said to Mikuni Oriko, you can't imagine it would be anything good. "She said that, if I wished to not have to suffer in contradiction from being at once a lesbian, a heretic, and a Christian, I should perhaps consider joining the Church's 'Eighth Sacrament Assembly.' I don't know what she meant by that; there are only seven sacraments, and she wouldn't explain further when I asked her."

"Whatever it is-" You don't know what the 'Eighth Sacrament Assembly' is either; it's not something you remember from your sparse memories of coursework at Saint Hilda's. "-if it's Nurse Ortensia trying to recruit you into the Church, then I'm sure it can't be anything good."

"Perhaps not. I know Caren-san has her ways, but I think she was genuinely trying to help me with her suggestion."

You'll agree to disagree with Mikuni Oriko on that point. But right now, that doesn't matter to you, because "Homura-chan! You came!" Madoka is waiting for you. You wraps yours arms around one another as she greets you in the hall. "How was your archery practice today?"

"The captain thinks we're getting better," you say to Madoka. "I don't know if we're good enough to beat Shirome yet, but he says we're at least better than last year's team was at this point."

"That's good. I'll be rooting for you on Sunday." You and Madoka break from your hug, and her eyes wander to the long and still slightly-damp frock of ash-white hair standing a short distance behind you. "What are you doing here, Oriko-chan?" she asks. "I thought you would have gone straight to Tomoe-san's apartment. Did you come here to pick up Kirika-chan?"

Mikuni Oriko shakes her head, saying "Only partially. I had business with the nurse I needed to attend to, otherwise I'd have been fine picking Kirika up at the train station on my way to Tomoe-san's."

"What did you need to see Nurse Ortensia about?"

"Caren-san is actually my cousin, on my mother's side, and she agreed to baptise me and lead me through the sacraments of initiation so I could become a proper Christian, since there's no one who could do it for me at one of the nearby churches this city doesn't have."

"Oh." You don't recall if you've told any of this to Madoka before, but she sounds less surprised by all of it than you would have thought. "I didn't know you were a Christian, Oriko-chan, congratulations. I don't really know much about religion in general, but if it's important to you then I'm glad for you."

Mikuni Oriko smiles, saying "You're very kind, Kaname-san."

"Alright!" Kirika pumps her fist, and exclaims "Now that Pinkie's here, let's go to Tomoe's and have ourselves a party!"

Not yet, you think to yourself. There's still one thing you have to check before we can leave. "Hey dad, we're about to head over to Tomoe-san's apartment now. If you've got something to bring for tonight, you can either meet us there now if you have the time, or meet up with us later before we're about to eat. Either is fine."

"I'll be there later, after I've helped Minako finish moving her things."

"Thanks, dad. I'll see you then."
Knowing that dinner is on the way, you turn to your party and say "Right. Then let's head over to Tomoe-san's and make the most of tonight."

[x] Party!
-[x] See if you get a "family photo" of you Madoka, Kirika, and Oriko.

I don't know what pre-teen girls do at parties, so... Yeah, that's kind of all I got at the moment

See I would usually go to Google asking such questions, but I feel I would be put on a list of some sort if I searched "what do pre teen girls do at parties".

Well, technically they're all teenagers, not pre-teens. Oriko, Mami, and Kirika are fifteen, Kyouko, Madoka, Homura, and Hitomi are fourteen, and Sayaka is thirteen. Some of them may be pre-pubescent, but all of them are at least teenagers. It's the little technicalities like that that save us from getting V&'d

Hey guys, just want to say that we could use some more votes.

EDIT: Fair warning, folks, I'm going to have a very hard time coming up with anything concrete for the party with this little given to me. I'll probably have to end up waiting for @Enetious to salvage this even though I've already got enough votes beforehand.

[X] Plan Time To Party
-[X] "I'll be there later, after I've helped Minako finish moving her things."
-[X] Have someone with a smartphone sync up some app to Tomoe-san's TV and have yourselves a session of karaoke (or do it directly from the TV itself if no one has a smartphone)
-[X] Have an intense game of UNO, or some card gambling game without the money like Blackjack, whatever everyone feels like doing at the time
-[X] Truth and dare is always a classic; sit in a circle and cycle along it
-[X] Have a competition to see what pair can make the silliest faces/poses when having their picture taken
-[X] Paint each others' nails, however the catch is that people are randomly paired up and the person painting them can design them however they want
-[X] After dinner, have a movie night with popcorn and sweets (stray away from the horror genre, considering what'll be happening tomorrow)

If Homura can have literal holograms in her apartment, then they should be able to sync up a simple karaoke app that fits the slightly more technologically advanced society. Having a Just Dance-off might have been more fun and diverse from what they've done before, but Kirika's Wii is already packed away and being moved by Archer and Minako as they speak.

Also sorry for the delay, was sick and busy irl for a bit.

What are some songs or truths/dares for us to pick?

Knowing full well what my dice tend to do when you say the words "randomly paired" are you really sure you want to do this?

Actually, I'd like to hear everyone contributing some ideas for karaoke songs and truths/dares, not just for Homura but for all the girls. So,

Let's hear some suggestions from the viewing gallery.

Hmm. *Checks date in quest* then *googles 'Popular songs in Japan during 2011'*

Huh, Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" was apparently a top single in Japan during April. Was not expecting that to be a valid song to pick.

Also, the Album "Checkmate!" by Namie Amuro would have been released a few days ago. So if any of the girls felt like singind the new hotness, that'd be it.

Thank you for reminding me that she used to exist. I'll be sending you the bill for my brain bleach shortly.

That would be Sayaka or Kirika, if it's anyone.

Karaoke
Madoka: See You Tomorrow (her theme song); Manten by Kalafina (literally just chock full of Madokami references; why she wants to do it, how Homura has suffered for her, how it's nearly Walpurgis Night and time for the world to end yet again, references to past timelines and how there's been no future thus far due to time looping, etc.)

Homura: Magia, possibly as a duet with someone (basically her theme song, outside of Puella In Somnio); oblivious by Kalafina (I mean, just look at the lyrics); sprinter by Kalafina (also look at these lyrics, references how far she's willing to go for Madoka as well as her pain in doing so timeline after timeline; slight Akumura references)

Mami: Credens Justitiam (her theme song)

Sayaka and/or Kyoko: everlasting song by Yuki Kajiura (perfect now that they're together)

Kyoko: Seventh Heaven by Kalafina (references the good 'ol days of her and Mami's partnership, before they split up due to Kyoko's betrayal of Mami's ideals)

Oriko: Open Your Heart by Yuki Kajiura (literally has lyrics that references love and religion, fitting considering what she'd just gone through); Lacrimosa by Kalafina (references how she still can't see a good future past Walpurgisnacht, yet how she's placing her faith in Homura's gambit even if it ends in bloodshed)

Kirika: Hikari no Senritsu by Kalafina (basically how despite Oriko constantly seeing doomsday and misery, Kirika vows to bring Oriko happiness in her life and to love her)

Hitomi: Probably some classical music I've never heard of due to her dating Kyousuke

Truth & Dare

Homura: Dares Oriko to talk in a Kansai accent for the rest of the game in comparison to her usual posh way of speaking; asks Kirika how she feels about her familially
Sayaka: Dares Kyoko to do something in retaliation to one of Kyoko's dares/truths; probably is brash enough to ask Homura for a truth about something sensitive due to still being upset, like asking her to tell her one other big secret she's been hiding or something like that
Kyoko: Dares people into silly positions or to get her some snack/dares Sayaka to do something that couples do with her; asks for the most embarrassing thing someone's done in truths
Oriko: Gets revenge on Homura somehow for making her speak with a Kansai accent
Kirika: Dares couples to kiss each other (where that is isn't specified); asking about personal information in truths
Hitomi: Dares something surprising coming from someone like her, probably
Madoka: Dares to have Homura sit on her lap or something, or maybe to braid her hair due to remnants of her finding it cute in many past timelines (basically something to bring out her girlfriend's cuteness)

I'm assuming all of this will be supplemented by other people's responses.

Lots of Kajiura Yuki, I see. Not a bad thing, but I'd have expected a bit more variety. Also, I would have thought Manten didn't release until later in the year than April. Actually, how many of your choices are period-appropriate (came out during/before April 2011)?
Also, it's not really possible in the strictest sense for Mami to sing her theme song, as it's not in a real language and doesn't have real lyrics. There is a version sung in Japanese, but it won't come out until next year.
Homura: Dares Oriko to talk in a Kansai accent for the rest of the game in comparison to her usual posh way of speaking
Where from; Osaka, Kobe, or Kyoto? Because it does matter when translating Kansai accents into English.

Studio SHAFT didn't feel like licensing any more music outside of Kalafina and Yuki Kajiura. That gets expensive, y'know? :V

Also yeah, you're right, Manten didn't release until late 2011 in Fate/Zero. Though tbf, since there isn't going to be a Fate/Zero anime in this verse, perhaps they didn't withhold it from release until the anime came out since there's no anime to be had? Or it could be one of those timeline changes that Homura experiences with it releasing very slightly earlier, like how sometimes Kyousuke plays the guitar instead of the violin. 🤔

Other than Manten, all of the songs are from early 2011 and before then.

Got no idea how any of those would translate to English, feel free to choose what you think would fit best I suppose.

The 2011 limitation has really made me angry whenever the girls have to sing something. I have two songs I could easily have Kirika sing - one's a violent and possessive love song very fitting of the "villain" Kirika we knew from Part 1, while the other's a more serene and pure love song fitting of the current Kirika - and both of them are sung by Iguchi Yuka, too; except the first one didn't release until fall of 2013 and the second one summer of 2018.

None of them are as refined as a Tokyo accent, but Kyoko Kansai is a little more refined than Osaka and Kobe Kansai on account of Kyoto being the old captal, if I'm understanding what I've read correctly. There's also an urban/rural dimension to it- The more urban your Kansai is, the more you'd want to translate it into English as something like a New York accent whereas your more rural Kansai is going to be some stripe of American south you traditionally hear from English dubs.

Hey, @WanderingTwix I see you down there. Come on and contribute.

This is the same world where technology is further along than it is in 2020, I think bumping a few songs down some years would be an acceptable choice considering that. For all you know, a combination of wishes throughout history might have butterflied those songs into existence much earlier than 2013/2018, much like with the technology situation. :p

Hm, I'd be more partial to the more rural version probably, considering that'd be the most cliched anime option and hilarious to hear coming from Oriko of all people.

If someone were to wish Symphogear into existence earlier than in this timeline, there's no guarantee it would have come out quite the same, and it if didn't then there may not have been a second season or a gacha game; in which case neither of the two songs would have existed.

Actually, with no Madoka Magica to inspire a new wave of darker magical girl shows, Symphogear may not have been made at all, making this entirely a moot point. But either way, I'm quite confident that neither song would exist in any version of 2011 reality.

You assume wrong :V

As you may recall, I don't know music. Unless you count 'karaoke' in the Yakuza games.

... So I guess I'm suggesting those?

Wait, didn't I do that last time? Anyway, you probably have enough, and it would just feel weird for me to suggest those. I'll give some if you really want them.

Homura: ... I got nothing.
Sayaka: Dares people to do impressions of a popular kids show character(s)
Kyoko: Dares people to eat spicy stuff
Oriko: Asks a question not even her futuresight can answer; Where does Kyoko get all her pocky sticks from?
Kirika: Dares someone to do that chubby bunny challenge thing I can't remember the name of where you see how many marshmellows (?) (or another substitute if that's unavailable) you can fit in your mouth nah, that would be kinda gross. But yeah, I got no ideas here, either.
Hitomi: Asks a benign/trivial question that has somehow avoided being answered for one reason or another for the longest time and the curiosity is killing her
Madoka: Tries to do a vindictive Dare on Kirika for being so cosy with Homura, but fails due to being too nice
