Day 44 Chapter 3
[X] Enetious

"You've been holding out on us," you say to Assassin as you take your first bite of her tomato omelette. "This is a nice change of pace from what Archer usually makes."

"You flatter me, master."

"No, it's actually quite good." With Archer chiming in, you're sure to convince Assassin of the quality of her cooking. "I haven't had a Goje Farangi like this in a long time, but you make one that really knocks it out of the park." You nod, as Archer turns to you and says "Speaking of food, Minako was saying how she'd like to have another family dinner sometime soon, and Kirika was hoping to have salmon and mushrooms again. I'm not sure what your afternoon is going to look like or if you'll be able to spare the time before Sunday, but I thought I'd let you know in case you are able to make it."

"I'll see what I can do," you say. "So, how was it, meeting her parents last night? Kirika told me a little about it, but I was hoping to hear more from you."

"Well, it's Minako's father I got hit with the most last night," Archer says. "He's a real hardass, but deep down he's just like that because he cares about his daughter and doesn't want to see her get hurt again. Didn't get nearly as much flak from her mother; thankfully she was too busy getting caught up with Kirika to give me any real trouble. She seems like a sweet little old lady, though, and I don't think I've seen Kirika as happy to see someone who wasn't her girlfriend as she was to see her grandmother. They were also curious to know more about you, once they heard I had a daughter."

"Well, maybe after this is all over I'll be able to meet them." Would it be weird meeting them?

You'll save worrying about whether meeting Kirika's grandparents would be weird or not for another day. For now, you have to finish eating breakfast, shower, and get ready for school. Unfortunately, as you're getting changed into your uniform your attention is stolen by the presence of a certain troublemaker. Amy rubs against your leg, holding her squeaky fish toy in her mouth as she stares at you. "I'm sorry," you say to her, kneeling down to give her scratches behind the ear. "I know you want to play with me now that you've got some toys, but I have to go to school; you know that."

Amy drops her fish toy on the ground in front of you, letting out a soft "Mew" as you scratch her behind the ears.

You smile, saying "Oh, fine," as you pick the fish up. "I guess I can spare a few minutes to play with such a good kitty." You've never played with a cat before, so you aren't sure if you're doing any of this right; Amy doesn't seem to mind, fortunately. She just looks happy to be playing with you, and you can't help but snap a few pictures of her. You're sure Madoka will want to see these.

"Alright, now I really have to get going," you say, forcing yourself to leave despite Amy's protests to the contrary. You let her follow you to the front door, and give her a few final scratches as you put your shoes on. "You be a good girl while I'm gone, okay?" you say to her. "Archer's got some food and water out for you in the kitchen if you get hungry."

You close the door behind you, and set out on your daily journey to school. "Homura-chan, good morning!" Where who should be waiting for you but the love of your life? You and Madoka embrace, and the first words out of her mouth as you and she separate are "How did Amy enjoy her new toys?"

You smile, taking out your phone to show Madoka the pictures you took. "I think she's been enjoying them a lot, actually," you say as you hand your phone over so Madoka can get a better look. "Thank you so much for your help picking them out. I'm sure Amy wouldn't mind seeing you again so she can say her thanks to you as well."

Madoka smiles as she looks through the pictures you took, handing your phone back when she's seen enough. "Do you think there'll be enough time for me to come over to your apartment between now and Sunday?" she asks. "I know you've got a lot of important stuff to prepare for with the others, so if not... I guess I'll understand if you can't make the time."

You shake your head, and are forced to tell Madoka "I wouldn't be able to say if I'll have the time or not." You wish it weren't this way; and even though Madoka nods her head for you, you can tell she feels the same way. "Well, let's get going. School isn't going to wait for us."

Though you walk hand-in-hand with Madoka, you know soon you'll have to deal with the appearance of Sayaka and Hitomi. You think Hitomi is coming around-ish to forgiving you, but Sayaka is anyone's guess and that guess is probably a bad one.

"Hey, Madoka, how's it going?"

"Good morning Madoka-san!"

While Madoka breaks away from you to greet her friends, you hang back in silence, waiting for them to approach you before saying anything.

"Akemi-san, good morning to you."

"Hey."

You got a word out of Sayaka; here's hoping you can get more than the one. You bow, greeting the two girls "Sayaka, HItomi, good morning to the both of you." At this point yesterday, Hitomi took the opportunity to apologise for the way she had acted towards you; now, it's your turn to repay her. "I am truly sorry for having burdened the both of you with what I said the other day," you say to Sayaka and Hitomi. "I want to reiterate what I said yesterday; I am willing to do whatever it takes to restore our friendship. I... I wouldn't want to have to face Sunday knowing that you both were still angry at me for what I said."

"I told you yesterday what you have to do to prove your sincerity," Hitomi says. "Come back alive and victorious on Sunday. I... I genuinely want to see you succeed, Akemi-san; I don't want you to turn tail and run from what you've worked so hard to accomplish like you say you have in the past. If you can do that, if you can prove you're as committed to fixing what you've broken as you claim, then that must be the only way you can prove it."

You bite your tongue and remain silent; Hitomi doesn't know how hard you've tried to do just that, every time before this one. How could she know? How could you know; if Walpurgisnacht is so much stronger this time around than ever before? "You said that yesterday," Sayaka says. "Do you really think you'll get a different answer from us if you just keep apologising every day? You... You were keeping something really big from us, Homura, even though you said you wouldn't do that anymore." Sayaka turns away from you, huffing to herself as she adds "How are we even supposed to know if what you say is true anymore if you keep hiding things from us like this?"

"I know it must seem that way, between hiding my nature as a puella magi, and now the fact that I've kept this from you for as long as I have. But I assure you, Sayaka, after this there is nothing I'm hiding from you." Sayaka doesn't look like she's buying what you're selling her. You can't blame her; coming from you, in this situation, you don't know how trustworthy you'd sound either. "... Would you have believed me if I'd spoken up earlier?"

"I don't know," Sayaka says. "But at least then it might have felt a bit more honest of you than for you to have kept silent this whole time."

"Why do you think I did that?" you ask; your question eliciting from Sayaka a facial response that isn't stubborn dismissal, for once. "I've tried, countless times I've tried to try and convince you of what I told you the other day, and you've never once believed me or listened to me. I've tried telling you all the truth from the very beginning, but out of all the times I've tried it, it's never worked. Please trust me when I say that I've tried to make you believe me in the past, regardless of whatever you must think of me now."

"I'm not mad at you for feeling the way that you do," you say, not caring when your voice cracks. "It's true, I haven't been completely honest with you, in spite of my earlier promise. But even still, I want you to know that I'm grateful you even believed me at all this time..."

Sayaka huffs, crossing her arms as she says no more. You look to Madoka, then to Hitomi. In Madoka's eyes you are met with compassion; in Hitomi's stony silence. But you'll chalk this one up as a win regardless. Because at least you got Sayaka to say more than one word to you this morning.

Hey, let's get to Walpurgisnacht in a timely fashion, shall we? Unless Sayaka/Hitomi brings something up during Lunch, I'm fairly certain we can safely gloss over it; same with Archery club stuff, at least until something happens to one of the members or when it's around time for the big competition.

EDIT: Added in a couple Lunch conversation topics.

As much as I agree with this sentiment, I don't know how much update I can get out of glossing over action item after action item. There has to be something of at least a few words of substance you can give me to work with.
Boy, you sure don't wait around do you?

Day 44 Chapter 4
[X] Enetious

You breeze through the first half of the day on autopilot, grateful that your group project is almost done and your partners don't require much from you today. Your thoughts are a storm, and it isn't entirely the fault of your confrontation with Sayaka this morning, either. Walpurgisnacht is coming in just a few days, and with each passing day it feels as if the things you have to do before that day arrives are growing in number, and not shrinking. Can you make time to see Madoka again before Sunday? Can you spare the afternoon to have dinner with Archer and the Kures? What about tomorrow, when Mikuni Oriko has dinner with Nurse Ortensia? Should you post a watch over the mansion to make sure Nurse Ortensia doesn't try anything? Is there anything you can do to win back the trust of your friends?

Your mind is grateful when the ringing of the lunch bell tears you away from your thoughts for a moment, and you make for the cafeteria in slightly less of a daze than you've spent the previous hours in.

You see Madoka, Sayaka, and Hitomi sitting at their usual table. Madoka offers you a seat beside her, which prompts Sayaka to move herself over as far from you as possible. In between bites of her lunch, she shoots you sour glances, but remains silent as you take a seat beside Madoka. "I'm sorry," you wish you could say that and make everything better between you and your friends. But as Sayaka pointed out, you can't expect to force things to get better if you apologise enough.

"How are you coming with your studies?" you ask Hitomi, who wears a surprised look as you address her, as though she weren't expecting you to speak to her. "I know how much you were enjoying studying magecraft, and I hope this recent turmoil between us hasn't diminished your enjoyment any."

"Oh. Thank you for inquiring, Akemi-san. I'm currently working my through more on Mystic Code theory, and I believe I've been making good progress lately, all things considered."

"I'm glad to hear that," you say. "Is the material Tohsaka Rin gave you enough; or would you want to continue taking lessons from Archer?"

"If all goes well-" on Sunday, you hear Hitomi's words unspoken, "-perhaps I could find the time in the afternoon to visit some day next week. But for right now, I believe I'm making good progress just with self-study."

"Hey," Kirika says as she slides into the seat beside you, sandwiching you between her and Madoka. "How's everything going?"

"Better than expected," you say to her. "Hitomi is actually talking to me again. What about you?"

Kirika shrugs, saying after swallowing the first bite of her lunch "I dunno. Every day I can't spend with Oriko is a huge drag, but I guess things are getting better now. Mom's got more time to relax now, which is good for her, and she's got Archer to make sure she's eating right and stuff. I just wish I didn't have to do this whole 'school' thing so there'd be no grades I had to bring up to see Oriko again."

"Do you like Archer, then? You seem to appreciate the way he takes care of your mother, but what do you think about him?"

"He's alright, I guess," Kirika says. "Like I said, he's taking good care of my mom, and she's a lot happier now than I remember her being since before the divorce." Kirika's eyes dart left and right, as though she were being watched, and you hear her voice echo in your mind as she says "Don't tell anyone, but I called him 'dad' last night and I was only kind of being sarcastic when I said it, and I even hugged him before he left this morning... I... Mom likes him, and grandma and grandpa seemed okay with him last night too, so... I guess it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to have him as my new dad."

"Don't worry, big sis, your secret's safe with me."

Kirika surprises you with a hug, but a jealous glare from Madoka causes her to back off. "Now hey!" she says as she pulls away from you. "You're trying to distract me, aren't you? You promised you'd tell me all about your date with Pinkie last night, but so far I haven't a peep from you!"

"Oh, alright, you got me." You hadn't meant to forget about telling Kirika, but you'll play along all the same. "First, we went to the aquarium, where we saw a lot of cute and cool fishes, and even a dolphin show." You smile as you think back to how it felt watching that show with Madoka. "I had never seen a dolphin show before, so that was really fun. After that we went bowling; that was also fun-" Though Madoka's bowling technique leaves a lot to be desired. So does yours. "-but we both agreed it probably would have been more fun if we went with everyone else. After that, we had a nice dinner at that fancy restaurant on the top floor of the mall, and before we left we stopped at the pet store to pick out toys for Amy; and after we dropped her toys off at my apartment, we went to the park to look at the stars."

"And that's when you two kissed, right?" Kirika asks, wiggling her eyebrows in what you assume she thinks is supposed to be a seductive manner. Maybe it works on Mikuni Oriko, but you're unconvinced. "Come on, tell me all about it. Did you get any tongue, or just-"

"We didn't kiss," you say, cutting Kirika off before she can say any more. "I know you and Mikuni Oriko don't have interpersonal boundaries anymore, but Madoka isn't ready for that big of a step yet, and I'm respecting her wishes by trying not to move things along to rapidly."

Kirika rolls her eyes. "You two are really missing out, you know that? Kissing the person you love is one of the greatest thing in the world- It's like a hug, but for your mouth. When you and Pinkie finally do kiss, believe me you're both going to ask yourselves why you were holding out for so long."

"So she doesn't want to! Big deal!" You're worried that Sayaka's shouting will draw unwanted attention your way. "Just because you and your stupid girlfriend do it all the time doesn't mean everyone is like you!"

"Oh, this coming from Sakura's girlfriend? She had her tongue down your throat, what, the second date? Third? You're in no place to be yelling at me for telling someone else to get with the smooching."

You shrink in your seat, hoping to disappear before Sayaka and Kirika draw any more attention with their yelling than they already have. Beside you, Madoka has followed suit, her cheeks coloured the same burning scarlet you imagine your own cheeks to be as she joins you in pretending Sayaka and Kirika are total strangers to the two of you.

The rest of the morning part of the vote has been stapled to the end of the previous update, while lunch is its own update as usual. Looking for any conversation topics we might have for our clubmates, along with an expanded afterschool schedule.

[x] Oh how you wish you could just stop time and leave, but you can't because Kirika.
-[x] Your clubmates heard your friends shouting match and now they're curious about your love-life, too.
--[x] Wonder around town for a bit. How much do you actually know the city you've spent all these loops in?
---[x] Meet up with the active members of the Holy Sextet.
----[x] Go Withc Hunting. Random Servant Shuffle.

[X] Plan Powers Testing
-[X] At the Archery club, talk to
--[X] everyone
---[X] about organizing drills in order to mimic what they're going to be going through in less than a couple weeks time; shall they start today and continue to have mock events against one another in order to get everyone used to the tournament rules and atmosphere?

-[X] Go to whatever location the Holy Sextet is going to be practicing at
--[X] First on the agenda is exploring Nagatsuki Miyuki's abilities so that she might be useful while fighting against Walpurgisnacht
---[X] Have everyone speculate for a bit and give Miyuki ideas on possible things she could try, though knowing what she wished for (even if she doesn't want to give specifics) would be very helpful in figuring out what she's capable of

##Pistol
----[X] Has she tried combining elements while shooting from her pistol?
-----[X] What about all at once?
----[X] Since her pistol is based off of the classical elements, perhaps she could try and shoot Ether/Void as well? What about combining it with one or more other elements? (1)
----[X] Has she tried overcharging her pistol, or expanding her pistol a la Mami's Tiro Finale in order to shoot something much bigger and powerful using her magic?
----[X] Has she tried shooting anything else out of her pistol, such as a copy of her sword or a regular bullet?
-----[X] Has she tried shaping the elements she shoots out of her pistol into specific shapes, like a lance or a bullet?
------[X] Has she tried shooting something faster and more precisely by explicitly shooting something the size of a bullet? Or by enhancing her pistol with her magic in order to boost whatever she's shooting?

##Sword
----[X] Has she tried shooting elements out of her sword as if she were wielding her pistol, or trying to coat her sword in an element without shooting it from her pistol?
----[X] Has she tried enlarging her sword, or extending it through her magic (OOC: e.g. like Ichimaru Gin's Zanpakuto in Bleach)?
----[X] Has she tried channeling pure magic into her blade in order to make it sharper and more effective?

##Both
----[X] Has she tried combining both of her weapons using her magic? It's not often that a Puella Magi receives two completely different weapons to dual wield like she does, so perhaps there's a bit more to it than they're aware of?
----[X] Has she tried creating duplicates of her weapons using her magic?

##Sight
----[X] Has she tried consciously turning her "seeing through illusions" sight on and off? Though it would obviously be best to keep it on, it may grant insight as to what else her sight might be capable of if she's able to control it in some way.
-----[X] Has she tried switching her sight to interpret living things as one or more of her elements, probably based off of their personality and temperament (or their actual Element)? (2)

##Purely Elements
----[X] Has she tried controlling the elements that she shoots from her pistols using her magic, either mid-stream or after they've already landed?
----[X] Has she tried animating an element while firing it out (probably while it's still attached to the barrel of the gun), such as creating a massive fire dragon that she could use like a whip?
----[X] Has she tried to imbue her elements with characteristics that are believed to be associated with them through the Japanese philosophy of the classical elements? (e.g. Earth represents things that are solid, Water represents things that are liquid, Fire represents things that destroy, and Air represents things that move; she could possibly "reinforce" any Earth she makes by imbuing it with magic, with Water perhaps she could have more control over it, with Fire she could imbue it with the concept of Destruction making it all the more deadly, with Air she could make it faster and more instantaneous and deadly, etc.)
----[X] Has she tried healing someone through water created by her gun? Every Puella Magi can heal to an extent, perhaps using her water as a medium could help boost her natural healing capabilities?

-[X] Second of the agenda is anything they want to test or refine, such as Tomoe-san and Oriko's Tiro Fulmine
--[X] Test out your new milestone in Projection Magecraft, and determine how quickly you can Project things in comparison to before and what you can do with it now (e.g. Projecting things over your shoulder with velocity to shoot at a target)
--[X] Test out your Inguz shots using whatever Grief you have leftover from yesterday's Witch hunt and Inguz practice
---[X] Speaking of, take stock of what exactly you can do with Inguz now that you hit that milestone last night (OOC: Character sheet hasn't been updated yet)
Ether - or Void - is one of the Classical Elements. It is pure magical energy given form, which manifests as an amorphous sort of "spiritual" energy; basically just magical energy but a bit more solid enough to kinda be like a gas, except in the magical sense. When combined with one or more of the other Classical Elements, it allows Mysteries to be actualized depending on what was combined.

A failed combination of Ether and an Element creates Ether Clumps, which takes the form of a clay-like substance. Other than serving as a conductor of magical energy, it is largely considered to be useless. If it's ever made into a specific form or shape, if left inactive for long enough (i.e. without magical energy running through it) it will eventually return to its original clay-like form. Since Miyuki's gun doesn't allow her to actualize Mysteries and she isn't an advanced Magecraft user, Ether Clumps is the most likely scenario that would occur if she tried combining Ether and one of her elements. Ether Clumps could possibly be used to store Grief using Inguz, which could then be used as a volatile reagent or explosive or it could be disposed of accordingly.

A possibility of Miyuki combining all five elements is the creation of True Ether (False), much like how the Sword of Paracelsus creates it. True Ether (False) is a very destructive and dangerous substance as you're already aware of. This is a big if though, and what's far more likely is that she would end up generating more Ether Clumps.
A text written in Egypt in Hellenistic or Roman times called the Kore Kosmou ("Virgin of the World") ascribed to Hermes Trismegistus (associated with the Egyptian god Thoth), names the four elements fire, water, air, and earth. As described in this book:

And Isis answer made: Of living things, my son, some are made friends with fire, and some with water, some with air, and some with earth, and some with two or three of these, and some with all. And, on the contrary, again some are made enemies of fire, and some of water, some of earth, and some of air, and some of two of them, and some of three, and some of all. For instance, son, the locust and all flies flee fire; the eagle and the hawk and all high-flying birds flee water; fish, air and earth; the snake avoids the open air. Whereas snakes and all creeping things love earth; all swimming things love water; winged things, air, of which they are the citizens; while those that fly still higher love the fire and have the habitat near it. Not that some of the animals as well do not love fire; for instance salamanders, for they even have their homes in it. It is because one or another of the elements doth form their bodies' outer envelope. Each soul, accordingly, while it is in its body is weighted and constricted by these four.
Hm, I'm not sure I included enough ideas for Miyuki to test... anyone have any more ideas? /s

Other than that, just having Homura test out her newest capabilities in both Projection Magecraft and Inguz. I could include ideas for possible combinations attacks if SVS wants me to, though I'd presume that SVS would want to get through the first half of training where everyone's speculating on how Miyuki could possibly use her abilities while seeing her test those ideas out.

I'm going to need all this Miyuki stuff broken down a bit more cleanly, maybe split it up based on what's being done with her weapons? Elemental testing, sword stuff, categories like that, so it isn't all one big walll of text.
all that stuff about ether under the spoiler
Need I remind you that Homura is not a mage. If you (you) start going on about ether to her, she wouldn't have the slightest idea what you were talking about. She's likely to be academically familiar with Void only as much as it relates to the teachings in Musashi's book, but if you go on about ether and ether clumps that's all going right over her head.

I'm well aware of this. Though since Homura's aware of the Five Classical Elements (which includes the fifth under the names Void and Ether interchangeably), and the fact that she'd have learned the bare basics of what Elements there are from Archer when he was telling her the fundamentals of Magecraft very early on in the quest (which are Fire, Earth, Water, Wind, and Ether), I'm sure Homura could make the connection of possibly having Miyuki try out Ether in some capacity to see if she could generate whatever it is, while ending up combining it with something while she's testing out combining her elements in another point.

Obviously Homura wouldn't be aware of the physical manifestation of Ether or the existence of Ether Clumps, I included that reference in order for you to know what would result from a certain action if Miyuki is able to create Ether and combine it with one or more elements.

EDIT: I should probably remind you that if Homura needs to explain to Miyuki exactly what Ether is, that she has Archer on speed-dial (not to mention Mami and Caster).

You know, it just dawned on me that we already brought this up with the archery club. I can't remember what day it was, but I swear we have. Do we have anything else we want to do or talk about with the archery club, in that case?

Well yeah, Homura previously brought it up with them. This is just reminding them (y'know, since they explicitly put off training until it was too late last time) as well as starting to train under tournament rules. I'm sure there'll be plenty of content to write for explaining how the tournament rules work, as well as describing the setup and whatever mock Archery mini-competition they have. :p

Not sure what else to have Homura talk to them about, tbh. We exhausted most means by now, Homura's already asked to get to know them, and her asking more about Mochizumi's love life would definitely be old at this point.
