Well, sooner or later we're going to have to have Homura ask Caster and/or Oriko about the Incubator's whereabouts regardless, so I wonder what city it's eyeing for establishing itself in while it's working on Madoka. o_O
You should know the answer to this, but to everyone else I leave your imaginations to run wild until it's time for the sequel.
You mean like she is right now?
You know what I meant. Kyubey's not going to give up on Madoka just because she's taking a vacation.

You know what I meant. Kyubey's not going to give up on Madoka just because she's taking a vacation.
Better hope that Oriko and Lancer find out a good way of fending off the Incubator while they're on vacation then, if not soon after. I wonder how the Incubator would react to such measures being taken against it; would it finally shrug off Madoka as a lost cause or would it bide it's time until something eventually happens that allows it a chance to speak with Madoka again?

Any thoughts on what Homura should focus on next, if not another path of Isa? There are plenty of insanely useful skills that Homura could learn in many of these Runes; some of note are Ehwaz/Kanaz's Reinforcement, which would definitely be a lot stronger than standard Magecraft Reinforcement by virtue of Age of Gods stuff and could let Homura copy Bazett and Soichirou's feats by imbedding the rune in clothes or accessories.

Mannaz's granting of Instinct, y'know, the thing that Saber abuses so much in F/SN where she dodges stuff like Cu's NP (when combined with her luck stat) and Sasaki Kojiro's Tsubame Gaeshi.

Nauthiz for personal Magic Resistance, 'nuff said.

Tiwaz for Eye of the Mind (True) - how that would be (True) in this Rune's case would be the temporary granting of knowledge and instincts from Tiwaz's mystery in order to do as Archer does, as opposed Kanaz's Eye of the Mind (False) which is far more instictual than knowledge based (fun fact, Heracles would have Eye of the Mind (False) when summoned in any other class but Berserker).

Or Homura could always just stick to Isa and go down the energy draining or time slowing paths.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated; for instance if we want Homura to learn Ehwaz/Kanaz, we'd want to have her start on it during this night's practice sessions if possible.
You're talking to me? :V

[X] Plan Delegation

I say we stick to Isa.
Soooo since no one else is pitching into the conversation, you want to elaborate on this? :p Do you want Homura to go down the energy drain or time slowing path and why, basically. You also gotta remember that there's plenty of other stuff that would be amazing for Homura to have, such as a Reinforcement rune a la Bazett or Soichirou which could drastically amplify Homura's defensive and close-range offensive capabilities and speed/agility, Magic Resistance which could counter a whole of of the recent 'Imafiringmahlazar' Witch attacks. There's also runes that grant the Instinct and Eye of the Mind skills, which are amazing as Arturia and Archer make them out to be.

Not endorsing any particular option, just wanting to know your opinion on why you think Homura should go down another Isa path as I'm pretty split between a lot of options. The time slowing path is interesting in particular between the two remaining paths.

The Drain path of Isa in particular. Being able to passively sap the strength of something she's frozen just seems like a good synergy to me.

We're spending time to learn Reinforcement Magecraft, anyway. Either learning that ruin makes that obsolete or becomes a waste of time if Homura can't get her Mastery of it high enough.

How would Magic Resistance even work with a Puella Magi, anyway? They're essentially corpses being controlled by magic. I for see mixing the two as... not ending well.

Haven't really thought about the runes that give Insticnt and Eye of the Mind like effects. Mostly because I forgot those were things.

Sorry for the late reply, didn't think you'd reply as soon as you did. The problem I see with going down the drain route is that, like the time slowing route, it is a debuff, but unlike the time slowing route drain is far more likely to be more ineffective or outright negated against certain enemies; what would drain even do to a Witch or it's familiars when they typically never run out of Mana (if that's even possible considering their unique physiology and interaction with Grief in of itself) or stamina? It definitely/probably won't be effective at all against Walpurgis in any case.

Magic Resistance won't affect Puella Magi negatively at all, especially considering that it works for Servants who are completely made up of magical energy :p. Plus Magic Resistance tends to work against negative effects and malleable attacks as opposed to the effects you're thinking about; it's a skill primarily meant to shield the wielder, after all it's not like whenever Saber from F/SN touches things imbued with magical energy it's dispelled or anything.

Instinct and Eye of the Mind is great, 'nuff said.

Day 32 Chapter 9
[X] Plan Delegation

True to Kure Kirika's word, your party's train arrives at the Hakone station well after night has fallen, but fortunately at least one among your party has been here before. And were it not for them, none of you would even be here right now. "Alright, unfortunately it is a bit of a walk from the station to the beach house," Mikuni Oriko says, gesturing in the general direction to which your party must head next. "But once we're there, we'll have the rest of the night and all of tomorrow all to ourselves, so let's try and make the most of it, shall we?"

You can think of one member of your party for whom 'making the most of it' appears not to be an option. You really hope that Sayaka won't spend the entire trip in a miserable state, and that she'll let go and find it in her to relax and enjoy herself once she's actually situated. Your party of eleven walks in three clusters, very reminiscent of your earlier seating arrangements on the train - Mikuni Oriko leads the party, as expected, with Kure Kirika walking beside her hand-in-hand, Lancer on her master's opposite side; you and Madoka walking the same, with your own servant on your opposite side; and Sayaka, Hitomi, Tomoe-san, and Kyouko sandwiched in-between - save for one noticeable difference; the presence of an additional face walking alongside Archer.

"I've never been to Hakone before," Kure Minako says; your servant, to his credit, is taking her presence in stride, though you cannot help but feel for him as he can do little more than stave off her unwanted advances on his own. "I've seen pictures of Lake Ashi before, but I never thought I'd get to stay at a private beach house on the lakefront. I hope it's as beautiful as the pictures make it out to be."

"Assassin, are you there?"

"Yes, master, did you need something of me?"

"First, I'd like to apologize to you. I'll be out of town until late tomorrow night, and I wanted to apologize for neither inviting you, nor giving you the chance to touch me before I left town. I would have informed you sooner, but the events of last night were... All-encompassing, with regards to my attention. I'd be willing to make it up to you upon my return, if there is anything within reason you would like from me; but until then, I need for you to keep an eye on McRemitz-san and her Lancer servant. Make sure she doesn't go snooping around where she doesn't belong; namely, the residences of my friends and I are off-limits. Let me know if she makes any moves towards them, or if she makes moves anywhere else you think it might be suspicious of her to go."

"I understand, master. Last night was an unprecedented calamity; I do not fault you for neglecting to inform me of your planned absence. I shall keep watch over your guest while you are away, and upon your return I shall let you know what I desire as recompense for your absence."

"I suppose that's all I can ask for. Thank you for understanding, Assassin. I'll see you tomorrow night."

While you're sure the hill upon which the Mikuni beach house rests provides a great scenic view of Lake Ashi, Kure Minako will have to wait until morning to know whether the view is as beautiful as the pictures make it out to be. "Well, we're here," Mikuni Oriko says, leading everyone to the front door of the two-story wood cabin. She pats down on each of the pockets of her jeans, saying "Wouldn't it be funny if we had come all this way and I had forgotten the key?" before producing the key from her back-left pocket. The master of the house enters first, flipping the light switch in the foyer once her shoes have come off. "Well, everyone; we're here. Please, make yourselves at home."

The cabin has a very open floor plan; a spacious room with two couches and two single chairs seated around a square coffee table. The kitchen area, along with a table sit off to the side, and on the opposite side from the kitchen area is a flight of stairs leading, you presume, to the bedrooms and toilet, as the only doors you can see are the front door, which you just came in; and the sliding glass double-doors leading out to a beach-facing patio. At least, you assume it's a beach-facing patio. It's too dark to tell for sure.

"I'll give everyone the tour in just a few moments," Mikuni Oriko says, heading over to the kitchen, returning with a piece of paper in her hands which she gives to Lancer. "If you would, take Archer and Minako-san to the store at this address. We'll need mattresses, and-" she turns to your servant, saying "-I've heard good things about your cooking skills, Archer. I trust you'll be able to make us all something suitable for dinner."

"Of course," Lancer says, pocketing the slip of paper given to her by her master. She looks over to Archer, asking "Is there anything you need before we depart?"

"As long as there's a grill and fire pit, and the proper utensils for me to use, I should be fine."

"I believe father had a folding grill put away somewhere around here," Mikuni Oriko says, as her eyes dart around the open room as if looking for or trying to recall where said grill might be, "But if you'd rather have a fire pit, we can dig one out on the beach while you're all out shopping."

"Both would be ideal, for what I've got in mind."

Mikuni Oriko nods, and Lancer says "Then we shall be off, to give my master and her friends the time they need to get acquainted, and to have everything set up for when we return."

Lancer leads the adults out and off of the premises, and now it's just eight girls. Mikuni Oriko waits until the door is closed and the lock snaps into place; you can hear her throat hard at work to swallow the lump which has formed in it. Her hands shake, but her eyes are resolute as she faces Sayaka. Then, before Sayaka can open her mouth to say anything, Mikuni Oriko has fallen to the floor in a dogeza position. "Please accept my most sincere apologies for my actions earlier." Sayaka's mouth hangs open, her eyes just as wide as her mouth. Though she does not give voice to the same apology, Kure Kirika joins her lover prostrating before Sayaka. "I do not expect you to forgive me for what I have done, but I ask that you not let my actions towards you make you upset any longer."

"I am trying - honestly trying - to be a better person than I was back then, but I know that nothing I do will ever take away what I have done. It pains me to see how my actions continue to cause you distress, and I would like nothing more than to see you put aside your anger and enjoy yourself on this vacation."

Sayaka is silent; the room is silent; you can hear a fly buzzing upstairs. Finally, "Get up," Sayaka says, her voice shaky and her fists trembling; you have a bad feeling about this. "Get up off the ground before I kick your head in." Mikuni Oriko does as she is told, standing, but as soon as she is straight on her feet, Sayaka's fist sends her right back to the ground. "Get up!" she screams, stamping her foot against the hardwood floor, her sapphire eyes flecked with her angry tears. "Get up and fight me!" Sayaka squares up to Mikuni Oriko, juggling her fists in front of her face. "You're not so tough when you don't have the element of surprise, are you?"

"What the hell is wrong with you!" Kure Kirika screams; visibly torn between getting in Sayaka's face, and attending to her girlfriend, who despite the solid hit to her jaw is managing to pull herself up with little trouble. "She was trying to apologize, and you think knocking her lights out will make it better? I should-"

"You should what, huh? Gonna try to kill me for punching your girlfriend? Like you were going to do to me and Madoka before?"

"No." Mikuni Oriko stands between Sayaka and Kure Kirika. "I will not fight you, Miki-san." And she does not; rather than raise her fists or, God forbid, a swarm of drones against her aggressor, Mikuni Oriko instead turns her head, presenting the right side of her face to Sayaka. "I say to you who hear, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. To anyone who strikes you on the cheek, offer the other also." Mikuni Oriko smiles as she recites from Scripture, saying "I will do only good to you from now on, Miki-san; I will bless you, I will pray for you, and whenever you hit me, I will turn the other cheek. I reject a life where I must do harm to anyone else, so if I have done harm to you in the past, I pray that I may find the strength to make it right to you." When Sayaka fails to strike her on the other cheek, Mikuni Oriko turns to Madoka, saying "And to you, Kaname-san, for you as well I shall endeavour to do whatever I can to make up for my earlier actions."

Neither Sayaka nor Mikuni Oriko can go any further; as soon as the opportunity presents itself, they both fall down onto the open room's available seating. Apparently, neither of them mind the fact that they've chosen the same couch to lie down on. "If the rest of you don't mind, I can give you the full tour in just a few minutes," Mikuni Oriko says to her guests. "I'm just a little exhausted right now."

[ ] Wat do?

[X] Plan Visit To The Homutherapist
-[X] Ask Sayaka if you could talk to her elsewhere for a few moments, along with Tomoe-san
--[X] Give her the talk with Tomoe-san. No, not that one, the one your were attempting to text to her on the ride here. Try not to present yourself as coming off as passive aggressive or in any way letting Sayaka think that your mad or annoyed at her which could cause her to think you're "taking Mikuni's side", just present it as a harsh truth and a messed up situation that you wouldn't wish on anyone along with Tomoe-san's assistance.

There's still a decent chunk of the last vote that could spill over into the next update or one after that, what needs to be addressed now is the whole Sayaka situation.

Holy shit!!!

That was freaking intense! Intense enough for me to delurk and comment.

Funny enough I was earlier imagining how trying to get Sayaka and Oriko to if not reconcile but at least move on would play out, and this was both exactly like it and yet not. Plus it occured way earlier than I predicted. So there's that.

Now let the healing begin...hopefully. If Homura can (still) become friends with Oriko (and Sayaka) after everything she's been through, then Sayaka sure as hell can too.

Yup. We'll be getting the tour once Oriko's recovered and Sayaka's been talked to, and we'll be having BBQ, s'mores, and scary stories once Archer returns with food.

I actually toned down Sayaka's yelling from an earlier draft because it was getting too long and too repetitive. Though, now that you mention it, I'm curious to know what was the same in your envisoning, what wasn't, and when you were expecting it to happen.

I expected much more yelling. The hitting part I was surprised though. Oriko holding back Kirika from escalating the situation I expected. Plus I imagined the whole confrontation happening later during the trip only after Sayaka sulks/buzzkills everything to the point that an intervention has to be staged.

Like I said, the original draft had more yelling, but it was also getting reallly repetitive and there's only so many ways I can have Sayaka screaming about Oriko trying to kill her and Oriko being repentant for her past behaviour before the repetitiveness shows, so I cut it short and got down to what I wanted to do, which was the physical altercation and Oriko turning the other cheek.
[x] Shove Kirika onto her girlfriend's lap.
-[x] Then shove Kyoko onto Sayaka's.
This is assuming Kirika won't go diving into that lap like Lupin III the first chance she gets.

[X] Plan Visit To The Homutherapist

Sorry :oops2:

I think I understand the intention of sayaka's actions, but I'm not sure if she was thinking about the potential results of them. The logical conclusion if it went as Sayaka 'intended'.
Man, where the hell did everyone else go? We're almost at 24 hours and we're only at 1-1.
As much as I give the impression that I'm awake 24/7 (because who needs sleep when you don't have any eyes :V), I didn't read this update the moment I noticed the alert because I was just doing other stuff. Reading stuff, playing stuff (particularly an online casual local thing today), having a short lapse of burning out on reading because there's always so many things out there to read in the world. But yeah, sorry. Didn't even notice it was that long ago.

Yeah, well I have NO REGRETS :p
You know who else had no regrets? Sayaka. Do you want to end up like Sayaka? And not thread-Sayaka, I mean actual "I was so stupid" Sayaka. Because having no regrets is how you end up like Sayaka.

And speaking of Sayaka...
I think I understand the intention of sayaka's actions, but I'm not sure if she was thinking about the potential results of them. The logical conclusion if it went as Sayaka 'intended'.
So, it's completely in -character for how Sayaka has acted across pretty much every timeline.

I am the trombone of my song.
String is my body, and lyre is my blood.
I have created over a thousand ballades.
Unaware of bass,
Nor aware of treble.
Withstood pain to create many instruments, waiting for one's arrival.
I have no regrets. This is the only path.
My whole life was UNLIMITED BALLADE WORKS

... We must never let Sayaka know Archer's UBW aria, lest something like this come into the world.

Will the magic resistance make us able to withstand Walpurgisnacht's fire breath if we get it strong enough?
