[X] Heh, Hey Shero, looks like Homura Finally succeeded. We missed something so simple. It's not the magic or the process that was missing. It was emotion. When homura tried projecting a bow that belonged to Madoka in the previous time lines she succeeded. Puella magis magic depends on emotions after all. Since she was trying to project a bow that had no significance to her it didn't work... Or at least that's my theory... You have to test it though.

The three of you put your studies to rest as dinner rolls around. Archer has left something in the fridge; even reheated, the taste of his cooking is something out of this world. After dinner, the three of you return to your studies, though as the night grows later none of you can muster up the will to focus. However, you only realize how late it's gotten when Hitomi attempts to stifle her yawning.

You check the time on your phone, and are surprised to find it to be much later than you expected. Madoka and Hitomi should be going to bed soon, but... You don't want them to go just yet. Madoka... You never want to let her go, but you're surprised by how much Shizuki Hitomi has grown on you as a person; her and Miki Sayaka. Truly, this timeline is a very strange one, though the growing positives may yet tip the scales of balance against the many negatives.

"Would you two like to... Stay the night, perhaps? I... I don't have any guest beds, but I can provide blankets if you want."

Madoka looks delighted, eagerly replying with all haste with "A sleepover with Homura-chan? I'd love to!" but Hitomi is a little more hesitant with her answer.

"I don't know, Akemi-san. I would have to call my parents first, though they will probably say no on account of tonight being a school night."

"That's perfectly understandable." As much as Hitomi has grown on you over this loop, you would much prefer a night alone with Madoka.

Hitomi steps out to call her parents. Madoka also calls home, but she does so in the living room with you, confident that they will say yes. They do, of course, but to your surprise Hitomi's parents also give the green light. You prepare blankets and pillows for your guests, but despite being tired neither Madoka nor Hitomi seem to want to turn in just yet.

"I... I understand that this might be in poor taste, Akemi-san, given how later events must have no doubt coloured things, but I would like to hear about your date with Madoka, if you would be willing to share."

You aren't offended by her question, but before you have a chance to say so, Madoka interjects. "Homura-chan and I had a lot of fun! We went to the mall and I bought her a new phone, then we went clothes shopping and picked out a bunch of cute outfits for her! Then we went to the culture festival, and she won me a prize at the shooting gallery, and I won her a prize too! Then we found the guy doing outdoor showings of movies and watched Spirited Away, and when we were done we went home and watched the sun set in the park." She said all of that without ever stopping to catch her breath. The lungs on that girl...

"And then, Homura-chan was about to tell me something really important, but that's when she found you and Sayaka-chan hiding in the bushes."

"Again, I apologize for allowing Sayaka-san to follow you all day, and for going along with her against my better judgement."

A part of you is relieved that Sayaka and Hitomi interrupted you. Confronted with a situation that you had never been in before, you were about to reveal to Madoka the truth behind your timeline looping... You know she would have rejected you once she heard that. She would have thought you crazy and never wanted to speak to you again.

You can't blame her.

Several moments pass by in awkward silence, broken when Madoka asks "Since this is a sleepover, what sort of games should we play? Sayaka-chan isn't here, so I don't think Truth or Dare would be very fun, and... Well, only one of us likes boys, so I guess it's not fair to talk about who we like..."

"Oh?" Hitomi looks at Madoka, displaying a moderate amount of surprise. "When last we gossiped about who we liked, you had said that you weren't sure yet. Have you made up your mind?"

Madoka wraps her arms around you in a massive hug, and after what she says next, you don't even need to look in a mirror to know that you are once again the red cabbage. "The one I like is Homura-chan! And I'm pretty sure she's not a boy, so I guess that means I don't like boys? I don't really know what it means, but I know that I really like Homura-chan!"

"But, Madoka-san, I thought you had decided not to romantically pursue Akemi-san until you had gotten to know her better. Isn't that what you said last night?"

Madoka shakes her head, never once slackening her grip on your body. "I like Homura-chan a whole lot, Hitomi-chan. She's so cool, and pretty, and smart; I can't stop liking her just because she's got a little mystery to her. I just won't be her girlfriend until..."

Your ears know that Madoka is still talking, but the instant the word girlfriend passed over Madoka's lips, your mind was gone.

You aren't sure what time it is when you come back; you can't remember where you put your phone during the time you were on autopilot. You aren't even sure you would have come back until some time tomorrow, if it hadn't been for Madoka whispering in your ear "Homura-chan, are you awake?"

When you finally snap back to a state of awareness, you are lying on one of your couches. Hitomi is asleep, and Madoka is sitting beside you with her blanket wrapped around her body. "I couldn't sleep."

You smile at Madoka, responded with "Yes, Madoka; I'm awake. Did you need anything?"

"I just wanted to know if you were alright. You kind of zoned out for awhile when Hitomi-chan and I were talking earlier. I hope we didn't bore you."

"No, no, you didn't bore me. I just... Well..." You've already lied so many times to Madoka; what's one more going to do? "To be honest, you aren't the first girl that I've dated. But, all of my previous relationships were very short-lived, and... You're the first to ever say the word 'girlfriend', even if that isn't really what I am to you at this point. I guess I didn't really know how to respond to that. I'm sorry if I worried you."

"Oh... Homura-chan, I... I didn't know that. Were they all... I mean, did you like them, the way that you like me?"

Just one more lie won't hurt, you think. Just one more, then you'll only tell Madoka the truth from here on. "... I cared very much for every one of them. But Madoka... I..."You swallow the lump forming in your throat. This next part you know isn't a lie. "When my parents died, I... I thought I would never feel anything ever again. I... I was heartbroken, both figuratively and literally. If our perception of the world was coloured by our emotions, I would have only been seeing in monochrome. I was... Alone, at the one time in my life when I needed someone the most. And then... Then I met you, and for the first time in a year I could see in colour again. It... I..."

It's getting hard to speak, dredging up these memories. Madoka is staring at you with concern deeply etched into the lines of her face, but she's staying silent, waiting for you to finish speaking. "... You gave meaning to my life when there was none, and you're able to look past my flaws and accept me without hesitation... You say that you are lucky that a girl like me would show interest in you? You're wrong; I'm the lucky one, that someone as wonderful as you would ever consider being a part of my life. I..."

"I love you, Madoka."

"Homura-chan... I... I didn't know..."

"I'm sorry... I must sound so pathetic, declaring my love for a girl I only met last week..." Because you know you are pathetic.

There's a worried expression on Madoka's face, but she wipes it away with a smile and tries her best to sound positive when she responds with "Then I guess I'll just have to get to know you real quick, Homura-chan! Then I'll be able to love you too."

Your name is Emiya Shirou, and right now you couldn't agree more with the phrase "No news is good news". You aren't sure how much of Kazamino you've scoured in your search for the mobile labyrinth, but you've seen neither hide nor hair of it, nor of Kazamino's self-styled "owner" Sakura Kyouko and her servant Rider.

Where do you search next?
[ ] Around the train tracks near the church
[ ] The observation tower
[ ] The industrial building
[ ] The windmill
[ ] Call it a night and end the search
?

Well, I tried my best at wooing Madoka, but it wasn't really the time or place to spill the beans about the timeloops yet. Madoka's got to get us real early in the morning if she wants to catch us slipping up.
Only one of the above choices will net us an encounter with the mysterious moving labyrinth. Pick the wrong one and the day ends. Pick the right one, and... Well, a man's got to have some secrets, doesn't he?

Shouldn't it be a 5-sided die, with the 5th side being to call it a night and head home? Or did you not want to head home and intentionally left it out?

Day 6 Chapter 12
[X] Around the train tracks near the church

When you had said that no news was good news, you might have been wrong.

Heh, Hey Shero, looks like Homura Finally succeeded.

Sometimes, good news is good news, and it's very good news indeed to learn that your master has succeeded in making something solid. Of course, the bad news is that now your 'employer' sounds like Luvia. You're hoping that this is just a temporary thing.

Well, your search hasn't yielded any promising results so far, so you've decided you'll check one last place - the train tracks near the church - before heading home. The train tracks make the most sense as the place to check last- When you're done, you can just follow them for a little ways and you'll wind up back home.

Your search for the wandering labyrinth has yielded no results, but that isn't to say that you've found nothing. You've found the irate redhead who claims to own the burnt-out church, and Sakura Kyouko does not at all look happy to see you. Seeing her in her puella magi garb, you're surprised to find just how much is seems to take inspiration from the holy shroud you wear. Maybe her nebulously-defined relationship with that church has something to do with it; you aren't sure, but the flowing lines of her crimson skirt are very clearly lifted from the design of your own.

"I thought I told ya' not to go huntin' in my territory," she says, angling a very long spear at your throat. Why did it have to be a spear? "See, now I hafta kill ya, an I hate havin' ta kill a source of food." From this angle, you have a very clear view of the Command Seals on her hand. a large oval with two smaller dots forms a single part of the seal, flanked on either side by triangles that form the second and third 'lines'.

"Relax, I'm not here to hunt; I have no desire to violate the already-tenuous trust you have in me. I'm just passing through, trying to do some investigating, that's all."

"Investigating? What, you think you're Batman or sumthin?"

"Eh, I could do worse as a role model than Batman." The angry look on Kyouko's face softens, and there's even the formation of a smile cracking at the corner of her mouth. "But no, I actually have reason to believe that the wandering labyrinth you spoke of earlier isn't just something those girls made up. I have on good authority that it's very real, and I wanted to check it out to see if it posed a threat to my master."

"And if it did?"

"Then, with your permission, I would cut it down, and give any Grief Seeds that it dropped to you."

"Good answer." Kyouko's spear finally drops from its place at your throat, and she relaxes her stance. "Though, I'm a little curious as to how you came ta think it was real. Who's your 'good authority;, if ya don't mind me askin'?"

You aren't sure how much about Caster is your place to say, but for the moment this girl is being hospitable enough to let you pass through her territory unmolested. Trying to weasel your way out of an answer just won't do. "The servant of Tomoe Mami has very keen sight, and is able to spot things that most are unable to." It isn't technically a lie; you're just omitting the details of his Sight a little. "When we spoke earlier today, he assured me that he had seen the wandering labyrinth for himself."

"So then why ain't he out here? Why's he makin' you do his dirty work?"

"Because he doesn't particularly care about witches or the affairs of other puella magi."

"Then what's he doin' hanging around Mami for? Ain't nobody I know that likes huntin' witches an' keeping the streets safe than her, so what's a guy like that doin' for her?"

"Interior decorating."

Your response draws raucous laughter from Kyouko; genuine laughter, too. It's good to hear her laughing despite her circumstances. "Man, you got a good sense of humour, ya know that?"

"Well, anyway, I haven't been able to find anything tonight, so I was actually about to head out."

"In that case, lemma walk ya out." She really doesn't have to, but as this is her territory you don't have much of a say in the matter. Silently, she walks you the length of the tracks until the two of you reach the river's edge, where you part ways, leaving you free to make the rest of the journey home on your own.

When you return home, you find the girls curled up asleep on couches in the living room. Hitomi is off on her own little couch, but Madoka has snuggled up next to Homura. On the small table beside them stands a figurine of the pinkette in an elaborate frilly dress, and on the floor behind the couch is a pile of ornate, floral-themed rosewood bows, fading from existence but still quite solid none the less. It seems your sources were correct. Your master has been getting better, and neither magic nor practice were the keys to success.

It seems that things might finally be looking up for your master. That's a thought that could keep you up all night smiling.

Day 7 Chapter 1
You open your eyes as you feel a body moving beside you. Light floods your eyesight, and you remember the events of last night. Your name is Akemi Homura, and last night, you had told Madoka how you feel about her for the first time in countless timelines. It feels... Good. You find that you can breathe easier now, no longer having that weight over your chest. Madoka knows, in no uncertain terms, that you love her, and she hasn't fled from you yet, if the warmth of her body still lingering beside you is any indication. She, and clearly Hitomi before her, have vacated the living room, and the aroma of breakfast coming from the kitchen should tell you why.

Archer has his little apron on and is happily working to make a meal for the three of you- Two meals, actually, since he seems to be making both breakfast and lunch for all of you. There's even a lunch for Sayaka, too. "Glad you could make it," he says, sliding a plate towards you as you take your seat. It's strange, but you've noticed that even though Archer's features are unmistakably Japanese, he seems to excel at making western breakfasts, and you can't really understand why. The taste is nothing to complain about, but you have to wonder...

"Did the three of you enjoy yourselves last night?" he asks, and you, Madoka, and Hitomi all respond with unanimous nods of yours heads. No talking; there's food in your mouths. "That's good. I'm glad to hear that Homura is having fun with her friends. You girls are alright, you know that?"

After breakfast, the three of you need to shower and get ready for the coming school day. You offer the use of your bathroom to your guests before yourself, with Hitomi taking the first shower. You had offered it to Madoka first, but she insisted that Hitomi take the first shower; she wanted to spend the time with you instead.

When all three of you are finished, you head back to the living room to collect your things, and then it's off to school. Sayaka joins you along the way, jealous that you three got to have a sleepover and she wasn't invited, but the moment you hand her the lunch Archer had prepared for her, all is forgiven.

Both of the current votes flow rather nicely into one another, I think.

As usual, you find that you're more comfortable simply basking in the energy of your friends, and letting them do all the heavy lifting when it comes to conversation. If you have something important you feel you need to say you can interject, but otherwise there isn't much for you to say. Sayaka and Hitomi are talking amongst each other, and occasionally their conversation encroaches on Madoka as well. There is warmth in your hand- Madoka has laced her fingers with yours as she walks beside you.

... Somehow, holding hands with Madoka was easier to deal with before you stupidly went and confessed to her. Now, your heart is racing and it's growing hard to concentrate. You need to think of something to take your mind off of the current situation.

"The Howa Type 89 is the standard-issue rifle used by the Japanese Ground Self-Defense Force. It is a select-fire assault rifle chambered in the NATO standard 5.56x45 millimeter round, and was adopted in 1989 to replace the aging Howa Type 64 rifle then-currently in service. It weights 3.5 kilograms and has an overall length of 91.6 centimeters, with 42 of those centimeters belonging to the barrel. For disassembly..."

"Homura-chan, are you alright?" Madoka's voice brings you out of your concentration exercise. You can still feel the warmth of her hand intertwined with your own, but somehow it is easier to deal with now. "You were staring."

You give Madoka a smile. "Yes Madoka; I'm fine. I was just thinking about last night. I... Enjoyed having you and Hitomi over."

Madoka lets things go at that point, though her hand never once lets go of yours, so once again your thoughts take to wandering, this time to Archer. You really wish you knew the secret of his cooking; what inspired him, who taught him, and how long it took him to get so good at it. His cooking has been a hit with everyone you know that has tried it...

"Archer, are you there?"

"Any time, master. To what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Could you make another lunch for Sakura Kyouko?"

"I had already planned to later in the week, but yes; I can make one for her. On one condition- I want Tomoe Mami to be the one to bring it to her."

"That's an... Odd request, but I'll allow it, if you tell me why."

"Yesterday, she wolfed down the meal I brought her completely indiscriminately and without stopping to breathe. I can't imagine that she gets much in the way of real food, if she ever has any at all. However, I also think that getting her to place nice with Tomoe-san will be beneficial to her in the long run. It would give her someone she could lean on for support, and the foundations are already there; they just need to be repaired a little, from what I've heard. Having Tomoe-san bring her food most days out of the week could go a long way towards repairing their relationship. That way, I can maintain my distance and only come in if we need information from her."

"And you call me astute, Archer. That's a very well-thought-out and coherent plan you've come up with. Very well, I'll allow it."

"Was there anything else?"

"A few things, yes. First, I'd like to ask you a question regarding my Projections. I was struggling so hard to make anything stay solid, and I thought it was because, as you said, I just didn't understand what went into making that bow. But, when I stopped trying to focus on the bow, and instead focused on Madoka, I was able to make many bows, some of which stayed solid for almost an hour. Is there a reason that my output was so radically altered just from my change in focus?"

"How did you feel when you thought about Madoka?"

"I felt a radiating warmth, like my memories of her were embracing me in the most comfortable hug I've ever felt."

"Then, if I had to guess, your success was probably less due to a mere change in focus and more a change in your emotional state that made you more receptive to connecting with the magic circuits in your Soul Gem."

"Is that possible?"

"I don't know; you tell me. Did it work?"

"Yes; I just told you that it worked."

"Then the results should speak for themselves. If focusing on Madoka is what brings you success in your Projections, then my best advice to you is to continue focusing on Madoka when you practice."

"I'll keep that in mind when I resume practicing tonight. And speaking of tonight..."
With your mind, you reach out and touch the mind of Miki Sayaka, inviting her to join in your telepathic conversation. "Sayaka, are you going to be free tonight?"

"Homura? Is that you?"

"Yes."

"So, like, I'm inside your head right now, or what?"

"To a certain extent. Now, are you going to be free tonight?"

"Yeah, probably; why?"

"Archer, if Sayaka takes us to see Kamijou Kyousuke, can you heal his arm and hand for her?"

"I would have done it last night if she had asked me to."

"Whoa. Hey Mister Archer! You're here too?"

"Indeed. I wasn't aware that Homura could invite muggles into her mental phone calls."

"Anyway, yeah, I can totally take you guys to see Kyousuke tonight."

"Thank you, to both of you."

You terminate the conversation, but are still somewhat out of sorts until Madoka asks you once more "Homura-chan, are you sure you're okay? You're looking awfully out of it this morning. Would you like me to take you to the nurse when we get to school?"

Nagisa was an earlier casualty of Kirika, way way back a month ago of IRL time. We, as characters, don't know that she exists, but Homura is wondering when the dessert witch will make an entrance (never) if that's what you're asking.

"Homura-chan, are you sure you're okay? You're looking awfully out of it this morning. Would you like me to take you to the nurse when we get to school?"

It's sweet, that Madoka is so concerned for you. She doesn't need to know the truth. Your soul wears a body that cannot be ailed; there is nothing that she or the nurse could do for you. But she doesn't need to know that. Just one more lie won't hurt. "Actually, I have been feeling a little lightheaded recently. Maybe stopping by the nurse's office would do me some good."

Madoka smiles, nodding her head as she replies "Then we'll go there first thing, Homura-chan."

And so you do. As soon as you enter the school, Madoka, her hand in yours, guides you to the nurse's office. It's a lighthearted reprisal of your first meeting in this timeline; you have closed the distance between yourself and Madoka for the first time in forever, and the long walk to the nurse, step by step, repeating the same steps as always, is much less heavy than before. The nurse appears to be absent as the two of you enter, so Madoka guides you to a bed.

"Will you stay with me, Madoka?" you ask, sliding over to the side just enough for her to join you, should she wish. "I'm sure I would recover much faster knowing that you were by my side."

Madoka smiles, giving your hand a gentle squeeze before at last separating it from yours. "I'm sorry, Homura-chan; One of us needs to go to class to bring you your schoolwork, and since it can't be you, it has to be me." She waves goodbye to you, adding "I hope you feel better soon, Homura-chan."

How many times have you stared at the ceiling of the nurse's office? In times long gone, you were lain up here near-daily, yet it has been so long since then. The nurse is out, and you have the darkened office to yourself, so perhaps you can afford a few moments to close your eyes and concentrate...

... There is a strange hand around your wrist as you come back to consciousness. It isn't at all like when Madoka touches you; this person's hand is... Not cold, but devoid of warmth all the same. When the world comes into focus, you find yourself staring into the face of Mikuni Oriko... No, that isn't right. Mikuni Oriko's eyes are closer to emerald, while this person's eyes are more like an amber-gold.

"Finally awake, Akemi-san?" You recognize that voice. It's the nurse. You had never paid much attention to her before, but looking at her more closely you find yourself surprised at just how much she resembles Mikuni Oriko. "You're lucky to have such a good friend in Kaname-san. She was very worried about you. Have you been remembering to take your medication at home?"

The nurse released her grasp on your wrist, and when you pull yourself into an upright seated position you realize she was just taking your blood pressure. "Yes, I've been remembering. Thank you, nurse..."

"Ortensia," the nurse answers.

"Thank you for your concern, nurse Ortensia. And, I apologize for having forgotten your name."

"Don't worry; you've got other things on your mind, don't you?" She sighs, shooting you a hollow smile as her eyes glass over. "It's good to be young and in love, isn't it? Everything is always so new, so exciting. Every smile given, every hand held, every kiss shared; each one is always something brand-new, isn't it? Take care of Kaname-san, will you? She's a good kid."

The nurse departs from your bedside, allowing you to ready yourself to return to class. But, just as you're walking out the door, she stops you, and her question freezes the blood in your veins. "So, who's your servant?"

Your body wheels around to face hers. There's a look in her eyes, a certain knowing. "Come again? I didn't hear you." You hope you didn't hear her.

"Don't try to play dumb, Akemi-san. I saw the Command Seals on your hand when I was taking your blood pressure. I'm asking you, which class of servant are you the master of?"

"First, tell me yours."

Nurse Ortensia smiles, faintly chuckling as she counts off something on her fingers. "I was the master of Lancer, in the Hollow Grail War of six years ago."

"Hollow Grail War? Not Holy Grail War?"

"The Grail had been destroyed six months before the start of the Hollow War, hence the name. The war was hollow, and there was no prize to be granted to the victor. I'm assuming the same applies here as well, and that you and all of the others are competing in a pointless charade with no real reason behind it."

"Are you a participant in this war as well, nurse Ortensia?"

She holds up her left hand, splaying her fingers to you and wiggling the middle finger. "It seems that there are other prerequisites to being a master in this Hollow Grail War than to simply possess Command Seals. There are three girls attending this school who are masters - you, Tomoe-san, and Kure-san - and all of you seem to possess identical silver rings, worn on the left middle finger. I don't know of their purpose, but they seem to be related to one's ability to obtain Command Seals. So no, Akemi-san; I am not a master this time around."

"Kure? As in Kure Kirika? She's a master too?"

"When I saw her this morning, she was sporting a brand new set of Command Seals that hadn't been there last week. She must have made her pact only a little while ago."

"I see. Thank you for the information, nurse Ortensia." Once more you turn to depart, and as you leave you hear the nurse say one last thing to you.

"Please, Akemi-san; call me Caren."

"Tomoe-san, are you there? We've got trouble."

"Akemi-san? What? What is it?"

"Kure Kirika has summoned a servant of her own."

"I just spoke with her at the end of last period, and I didn't see... Her bag... She had her hand inside her school bag when we spoke; I wouldn't have seen her Command Seals..."

"Be careful. Now that you and she are on even footing, she may decide to attack you outside of school."

"But, when we spoke, she said that Mikuni-san had agreed to meet us after school today, and promised that there would be no hostilities until the meeting had concluded. Do you think she was lying?"

"Yes; I do. Mikuni Oriko sent her servant to attack mine just two nights ago. I do not doubt that Kure Kirika will attempt to finish the job before our meeting ever takes place. Please, Tomoe-san, be careful."

"I will. Thank you, Akemi-san."

One down, one to go.

"Archer, be on your guard. Kure Kirika summoned a servant at some point in time between your encounter with Lancer and yesterday, and I don't know what we should be expecting."

"There are three classes that have yet to be filled. Saber, Assassin, and Berserker. Any one of them could pose a serious threat, assuming she knows how to use them."

"Mikuni Oriko will undoubtedly be directing her towards the most advantageous use of her servant. We should be preparing for the worst."

"I'll keep my eyes open then, master."

The school day is half over. You can hear the lunch bell ringing, and you double the pace of your strides. You hope you aren't too late.

NEW
Minor character unlocked!
Caren Ortensia - Daughter of a certain fake priest from Fuyuki, and a former member of the Church herself; it's unknown what happened to miss Ortensia since the conclusion of the Hollow Grail War of six years ago that would have seen her take up a position as the school nurse at Mitakihara. Maybe there's more to the story than it seems?

Anything we need to discuss with Mami can be done via telepathy, and there's absolutely no point in making threats. When we deal with those two, it'll need to be decisive and instantaneous. For now, the only move available is to play defense.

[X] Attempt to recruit Caren, perhaps after discussing with Archer how to go about doing so

Repeat 5 Times
Monday morning, about an hour before sunrise

"Damn that Archer, calling for backup against Lancer!" Kirika slammed her fist into the wall of Oriko's kitchen. A spiderweb of cracks formed where her hand made contact with the wall. "Who the fuck does he think he is?"

Contrasting Kirika's rage, Oriko calmly kisses her lover, with not a trace of anger in her voice as she says "Shh, dearest, there's no need to be angry. Lancer is more than enough to handle both of them."

"Then why did you need to use a Command Seal to recall her if she could handle them both?" Oriko had no answer to Kirika's question; she could do nothing more than stare at the second of two faded smudges adorning the back of her hand. Only a single crimson Seal remained on her hand now. "Let me fight, Oriko. Lancer will need backup against the two of them in the future, and I know I can't fight against another servant to support her. Please, Oriko, let me fight. Let me command a servant, like you."

"Kirika, I-"

"I can handle it. Sure, my magic reserves are pitiful compared to yours, but I know I can do it. Please, Oriko, let me help you."

Oriko closed her eyes and sighed; there was nothing she could do when Kirika got obstinate like this... She shook her head. "I don't want to let you fight, dearest. But... I know I can't win when you get like this."

Oriko led Kirika down into the basement, where on the stone floor an ornate sigil had been drawn in chalk. "I saw that it might come to this, but I had hoped that vision to be a false one." Gently, Oriko guided Kirika into position, saying to her "Because your magic reserves are... Somewhat lacking, compared to mine, we'll need to make a few adjustments to the ritual in order to provide you with a servant who can accommodate you. But don't worry; I'll tell you what to say. Just repeat after me and everything will be alright."

Kirika nodded, taking a deep breath as Oriko guided her hand, whispering the incantation into her ear.

"Fill; fill; fill; fill; fill. Repeat five times, but when each is filled, destroy it."

"Heed my words; my will creates your body, and your sword creates my destiny. If you heed the Grail's call, and obey my will and reason, then answer my summoning!"

"I hereby swear that I shall be all the good in the world. That I shall defeat all evil in the world."

"And let thine eyes be clouded with the fog of turmoil and chaos; thou, who are trapped in a cage of madness, and I the summoner who holds holds thy chains!"

"Seventh heaven clad in the great words of power, come forth from the circle of binding, guardian of scales!"

A brilliant flash of light enveloped the basement. Kirika went to move her outstretched hand to block the light, but Oriko held it firmly in place, shielding her lover's eyes with her own free arm instead. When the light faded, and the two found their vision returning, they were greeted by Kirika's new servant. It stood at an impressive height, towering over the girls. A creature of ever-shifting blackness, smoke and shadows billowing off of its body that hid a form that was just as black underneath as the smoke that rose from its body. A thin crimson line peered down from the place where the servant's head seemed to be.

"Go on, Kirika; don't be afraid."

Kirika could see the crimson sigils adorning her right hand; three jagged, asymmetrical shards coming together to form the shape of a diamond. Slowly, she reached her hand out towards the black behemoth before her. The sigils on her hand flashed, and the creature responded, bending its knee in subservience to her. "Yes..." she said, motioning with her hand for the servant to rise. "... Yes; I am your master, aren't I?"
