Trying to conquer them is the sort of mindset that leads to having a sprawling empire that we can't possibly hope to keep under control and will eventually explode in our face or cause us to stagnate completely as all actions are spent on stopping fires.
It's a bad idea.
They have the entire lowlands to bother settling, and that isn't exactly as free as one would think since that also will eventually put them at odds with the undead guys, a group that's worse than nomads if at all possible. Even more damming to their long term ability to pose a threat that would necessitate us squashing them here and now, if they're this dam independent, then it's very likely they're going to just splinter into city states down the line.
This is honestly cheap to avoid another war.

Dammit, the war party is losing its momentum.
Then again, after reading through the peace votes, they do have a point that letting the Maradysh go is not a terrible idea. Sure, it has it's negative consequences but it's not like it's the end of the world anyway. If we chose peace and the Maradysh gets uppity again, we'll just show them the error of their ways.
I think I'm fine with either one of them winning. They both depends too much on the dice rolls anyway.
Edit: I still think just letting them go instead of handing them that Legitimacy is a much better peace vote, by the by. Just think about it, they get ready for war. They geared up their spears, build their palisades, and readied the war party.
Then the war just didn't come and the Arthwyd just said "fine, be that way".
Definitely would have been annoying to that Martial Hero.

They can leave on amicable terms anyway and while there is possibility of the attack there is no such thing at the moment as they know that they can't attack us and win one on one.
We are basically letting them leave and do what they want while not destroying all of our connection with them so that they can reproach us if they want.

considering that this option has them as maybe not being a vassal, imo they either interpret it as us letting them go and do their own thing, or they interpret it as a refusal to acknowledge their independence and decide to attack us.
