Alright, so going for supporting the maradysh this turn, in the hopes that we can quickly get a bonus to relationship there now. Tech hero because hopefully this peace will last long enough to let us really make use of them. Next turn, we should probably do the study metal our crafters want done. Mainly because studying metal is potentially extremely useful. In no small part for the trait, but also just because metal is amazing. After that, we can get a palisade. That'll bump up our temp econ a bit, and let us afford to get another secondary settlement, bringing us to 11 econ. From there, we could probably afford to start the forest, and we'd be at 8/10 progress for the passage by then. Just 2 more turns and we'll have finished the passage. Once that's done we'll have 2 progress on that forest, and with the lesser cost of the forest project, we could get some additional infrastructure really easy while we worked on it. Heck, we could wait for the forest project until we finished the passage, and mainline the forest project to completion, getting us the rush mega-project trait/legacy/bonus.

The Forest Spirits have been shown as being pretty evil in all that we heard of them, and from how the Midlanders were defeated by both us and Urth I doubt they were under the protection of one.

Integration would be getting them to worship the Goddesses, and I doubt our pantheon is too pleased with the unnatural necromancy of the Forest Spirits.

To help explain it...forests are not kind environments to early humanity. Predators abound, and in the dense trees of old growth forests, spears, slings and bows are not very good weapons.
Snakes, great cats and other ambush predators abound, while clearing space is a struggle against encroaching plant life.

Thus most spirits associated with forests tend to be...not very nice. People ascribe values to the gods what they see in the world and what they see there is that everything hates them.

Okay then, let's go into these two in detail:

[] [Bonus] Gain Legacy Ancient Bastion of Civilisation (Great Bay)
The Bastion is generally a protector or defender, so this can also be read as Defender of Civilization. Now, the tricky part of this is what the Arthwyd consider to be civilization. Do they consider the nomadic boarfolk tribes to be civilization? How about the revenents of the Forest? Or even the "barbaric" Midlanders?
Being a "Bastion of Civilization" where you consider yourself to essentially be the only Civilization just gives rise to xenophobia.

[] [Bonus] Gain Legacy Ancient Centre of Civilisation (Great Bay)
I feel as though a lot of what I said about Bastion also applies here, except more magnified. If you consider yourself the "Center" of civilization while surrounded by those you deem uncivilized, it creates the idea of civilized = like us. It would also encourage isolationism (or at least discourage outreach), since you are the center and anyone who is important enough will come to you instead of the other way around.

These likely have really good mechanical bonuses (most legacies do), but I'm really not liking the narrative implications.

[X] [Epic] One of the priests proves to be naturally talented with the numbers and records. (Gain an Admin Hero)
Turtle 2: Tortoise's Revenge
We're Megabuilding now, and nothing can stop us.
[X] [Bonus] Gain two or more Innovations.
Those never hurt us, unlike Values.
And who knows- we could make headway into metallurgy.

Connect everything.

Ok, real talk? We. Need. More. Econ. And. Actions! Seriously, if we have just one more action and a higher Econ we could be doing so much more so let's do the last trail finish the mountain Passage and then start on expanding our settlements.

Why so? Having a highly hierarchical government is very useful when ruling areas/vassals seperated by long distances, as we are. It implies a high degree of delegation of responsibility while maintaining a clear and centralized chain of command. The ruler delegates their tasks to many others, i.e. regional administrators.
Higher hierarchy means that it becomes harder and harder for the average person to meaningfully interact with anyone of any importance to the civilization as a whole.
It shows an ever widening gap between the people of our civilization and those who rule over them. (not helped by the fact that we now have a single essentially unaccountable ruler)

Both sound very.... Ancient Greece. AKA "anyone else is a filthy barbaroi". And from there, it's only a small step towards the Double Monachy's "Teacher of the World" attitude.

Im pretty much in support of these
will cut it down as time progresses
Except for attacking nomads (until we get all our people)
And bastion. Never again will we lose our land, never again will we be under threat, never again will our people suffer tyranny.

It depends if you want to play a tall or a wide civilization type actually. And that gap you were talking about is pretty much the inescapable consequence of a growing society.

And yes, a single unaccountable ruler is pretty much what the Big Man leadership is all about. It's not like the Arthwyd had yet to figure out anything about checks and balances, you know. In fact, that's where the checks and balances systems came out. From a shit ruler ruling without consequence and things went shit for everyone, so everyone decided that, fuck it, we need to limit the power of kings right the fuck now.

You can entirely have a wide (or at least semi wide) civilization with low hierarchy; it just wouldn't be particularly centralized. The fact that we are still so small and yet have such increasing hierarchy is disheartening however.

We also currently have legitimacy 4/3, which likely means that people think the current King is truly favored by the Goddesses or something similar and thus to be given much more leeway. People don't start to truly question the actions of the ruling class until we start hitting low legitimacy (as was seen with the Priests)

Because those options are pretty much winning and I prefer not to go the diplo route (not if it will make us contact Lowlanders with their diseases and undead)

You don't care about trying to integrate the Maradysh (aka those people who really hate us right now)? Support Subordinate is a step in the right direction, but it will take consistent time and effort for it to really set in (something that a Diplo hero would help speed up).

I also want to go about courting some of the nearby Boarfolk relatively soon, both as a forewarning in case another horde arises and to try and curb any civilizational xenophobia.
