Urthryn, Goddess of Magic, Undeath and Lust
Urthryn, Goddess of Magic, Undeath and Lust
Urthryn has have a varied past and over the course of her existence, she has changed greatly multiple times and her ascension to being a goddesses is just the latest in that line of grand changes. In many ways, her ascension was the biggest change to Urthryn throughout her existence.

This is due to a mixture of Urthryn's nature as a goddess and how she operated prior to her ascension. As goddess, Urthryn may be formed from Urth, but her nature is shaped by the beliefs and perceptions of her worshippers regarding her. This isn't a problem on its own, but when she had yet to ascend, Urth was a secretive individual.

While she was Unliving, Urth kept her cards close to her chest. She never truly interacted with others and keep many things about herself secret. Furthermore, she was a very good manipulator as she built up a cult from scratch around her using her Daughters to hold certain beliefs about her and went to great lengths to project a positive reputation. The end result is that Urthryn might use Urth as a basis, but she is more the perception of Urth by others than the true Urth.

One prominent example of this is when it comes to her Daughters as Urthryn has different feelings towards them as a goddess than she did prior to her ascension. While she was Unliving, Urth held a genuine fondness for her Daughters beyond their usefulness to her, but nothing beyond this despite giving all of her Daughters the belief that she truly loved them. Urthryn however is shaped by that belief and as a result, Urthryn truly loves her Daughters like they believes she does and the end result is the goddess genuinely caring about her Daughters like a mother.

Urthryn has three domains, Magic, Undeath and Lust. Undeath comes from her ruling over an mostly undead nation and being known as the world's greatest necromancer. Lust comes not just from her own actions, but also from the actions of her Daughters and the perception of them by others, which is then passed onto her. Beautiful and conniving, the Daughters of Urthryn freely use their bodies as another tool in their arsenal, seducing and sleeping with anyone should it suit their needs. The end result is desiring love being associated with Urthryn.

Urthryn's domain of Lust is further reinforced by her own lust for power. While she lacked the sexual lust commonly attributed to her Daughters prior to her ascension, Urthryn did have a desire for more power that drove almost all of her actions. Combined with the lustful perception of her Daughters, it is enough for Urthryn to get Lust as her third domain as a goddess.

Urthryn's domain of Magic comes from her vast magical knowledge and infamous status as the world's greatest magic wielder. The most accomplished mage in the world, Urthryn had invented more magical discoveries than anyone else in history and easily outclassed any other mage. Many of her magical innovations have yet to be discovered or replicated by others and no one has any idea of how she achieved the feat of using magic to become a deity.

Urthryn's personality is different to her personality as Urth. Not radically so, but her personality as a goddess is closer to the common perception of her than anything she was actually like as Urth. Urthryn is coy and charming, preferring to act diplomatically and charm others into liking her or doing what she wants. She always prefers to use diplomacy over force, but at the same time, Urthryn is pragmatic. The goddess will not hesitate to do things she is dislikes if it proves necessary to serve her goal. She prefers to be nice and kind to others, but she inflict harm and cruelness upon others without second thought if she needs to.

In general, Urthryn prefers a soft and underhanded approach by befriending others and getting on their good side. She will be charming and kind to others as Urthryn prefers others to like her and willingly to do as she wishes. She will press an issue by force if she deems it important enough, but that is rarely the case. Despite her natural kindness and desire for cooperation, Urthryn is still very ruthless and has little qualms about taking cruel and callous actions if it proves necessary, at least none that are strong enough to make her stop said actions.

Beyond her general kindness and compassion for others, Urthryn is a very caring individual towards her loved ones. She adores her daughters and is very affectionate and doting towards them, wanting nothing more than the best for them. While she doesn't go out of her way to help them out, Urthryn clearly favours her Daughters over almost all others.

Urthryn is also madly in love with Arthryn. With Urth's secretive nature, her fear and admiration for Arthryn has been mistaken for love and admiration for Arthryn. Her ascension and the efforts put towards it are seen as an attempt to get on an equal level to Arthryn so that Urthryn can try to win the heart of the northern goddess and marry her. The end result is that Urth's lust for power has ended up as Urthryn's love for Arthryn. Arthryn and her desire for her love is always on Urthryn's mind as thanks to her domain of Lust leaving in a state of permanent lustfulness through how much varies. Unable to sate her lust with Arthryn's affections, Urthryn settles for satisfying herself with others, preferring Arthwyd women, but going for anyone who reminds her of Arthryn.

Beyond her love for her Daughters and Arthryn, Urthryn's main passion is the study of magic. One of the few traits that is mostly unchanged from when she was Urth, Urthryn champions of the study of magic and increasing knowledge of it. Always seeking to push the boundaries of magic, Urthryn will encourage others to study new forms of magic and attempt to innovate new spells or branches of magic. Urthryn also wishes to spread magical knowledge in general as her main dream after earning Arthryn's love is to make a world where magic is commonplace and used by everyone. To this end, she also encourages the teaching of magic to others and any attempts learn how to use magic.

While a goddess like her can change her form with a thought, Urthryn's default appearance is quite distinct. She looks like her Daughters with black hair and red eyes, but where her Daughters look like maidens in their youth, Urthryn looks a matron who is middle-aged with an older look to her and fuller curves. When it comes to attire, Urthryn focuses on looking beautiful. She will wear whatever clothing shows off her body best and wears jewellery and other accessories to make herself look pretty and more attractive.

Knowledge? Knowledge is power. There's never any denying that point. But culture? Culture holds an empire, even after its death.

That, and we're very much in short supply for Culture at this point.

You said she lacked influence among Daughters of Urthryn. I'm not entirely sure what was meant by that, but in either case, greater goodwill for the Arthwyd pantheon could only help, right?

It means that the Arthrynite goddesses are limiting to acting where they have followers. So while their influence amongst the Arthwyd Empire is very strong, it is lacking foreign lands. Sending missionaries would help improve her influence amongst the Foresters, especially if it is successful in getting new converts.

So yes, sending missionaries would get Wyrn some more influence amongst the Daughters of Urthryn, but that influence would be limited and therefore what Wyrn could do with that influence is limited.

Anyway, I have a feeling that Urth's grand accension plan was a complete and utter failure. All the magic, all the preparation, it all just blew up in her face. But because of all the work she did, and because she convinced everyone that it'd work, she created sufficient faith that a faith Goddess was created in her image.

How to the Arthwyd respond to the Urthdysh offer? Any option with more than 50% of the Urthdysh vote will win or if all options fail to get 50% of the vote, the one with the most votes wins.
@Oshha, I'd like to ask something about this. Is the 50% referring to the number of voters voting on the Urthdysh vote or the actual number of total votes? I'll explain.

Say you have 20 voters with 3 choices and they vote for multiple things. Choice A gets 19 votes, Choice B gets 12 votes, and Choice C gets 9 votes.
If the 50% applies to voters, then Choice A and Choice B will win, because more than 50% of voters voted for Choice A and Choice B.
If instead it's based on the votes, only Choice A will win, because 19+12+9=36, and 12 is less than 50% of 36.

EDIT: Actually, if it's based on just votes, it's impossible for A and B to win unless they have exactly equal amount of votes and no one votes for C.
There are 20 voters. Choice A has 20 votes, Choice B has 19 votes. 19 is less than half of (20+19), so even though near everyone wants to pick both A and B, they'll only get A.

@Oshha - would it be a fair assumption to make that this did not go according to plan? I have difficulty believing Urth would have accepted their mind and personality being radically warped, to the point of essentially becoming a completely different person, in order to ascend to Godhood. His initial effort, which presumably would have given him an immunity to faith similar to Arthryn, went wrong and thus they died, and eventually Urthryn was formed out of people's image of them.

I agree that your conclusion is a reasonable one and could be what had happened. However, this event is recent enough and relevant enough that even through I have what actually happened written down in my notes, I am going to intentionally it ambiguous about how much Urth's ascension attempt went to plan and just how much out of the outcome was something she intended or planned for. This is because you don't have this knowledge in-universe and I don't want to give you too much metaknowledge to plan around.

Edit: The Arthwyd don't know how much of Urthryn's ascension went to plan and have to make guesses and estimates based on what they now and I want the players to do the same.

I'd like to take the time to point out that Arthwyn ALSO started as a Faith Goddess, even if she is now a Concept Goddess for our people.
Which means Urth is down, but he's not out for good just yet!
Of course, Urthryn's current form DOES mean we'll need to figure out a solid answer for the Caradysh at some point before the sudden but inevitable betrayal situation that can happen if Urth gets back in the driver's seat.
Also, if Caradysh formally vassalizes/merges with us, we're going to need to remember to NOT farm out the Study Magic Actions to them if we can help it! Have someone else do it, like the Merintyr decendants, but not those guys!

I'm pretty confident that's not how that works. If Urthryn becomes a concept goddess, she'll stick to whatever form/aspects/personality she had as a Faith Goddess, and it won't change again from there. Or at least, I'm pretty sure that's how that works. Otherwise Arthryn would have split into two different people when she became a concept goddess.

Deities don't work like that. If a Faith Goddess becomes a Concept Goddess, it just means that they draw power from a concept rather than the faith of their worshippers and are therefore no longer influenced by the beliefs of their followers. It doesn't mean that they return to the way that they were before becoming a Faith Goddess and any changes they gained as a Faith Goddess remain.

More friendly with Urthdysh girls means getting closer to Urth herself, who loves our momma.
And boy do I find it hilarious.
