Probably a few hundred, if she's anywhere near as smart as she thinks she is. Large enough for a breeding population and that people would reflexively rule out it being faked, yet small enough to easily go under the radar.

You know, when I think about QA making a unicorn Friend, the result is usually less "pure and majestic" and more... well, take the Changelings from MLP, then imagine them in real life horse dimensions and characteristics.
Like a Death Knight's horse, but less undead and more alien.

I'll look for the chapter it was introduced in. There is no pic, but @mp3.1415player did a good job of describing it.
EDIT: The item in question was introduced in chapter 121 of Taylor Varga in the last 1/4 of that particular chapter. Following that there are comments on it that would further inform you of people's reactions in the next chapter.
Very fun story if you haven't read it. Long, but a joy to read. I recommend anyone who hasn't read it to make the time to do so (little by little if you have to). It's worth it.

The only problem I have with your image (and others) is that Danny Hebert has convinced QAylor that the friend should be cute and or innocent looking. To avoid the stampede of horrified and terrified crowds.
It's likely that the friend will look exactly like Pinky Pie but able to pull a lot more horrifying things out of her mane than canon Pinky. (Or Pinky's Party Cannon!)

On a scale, if uh.. Let's say if Cultists actually made a Valkyrie Core, in a potential hint that they were actively supplying Antagonists with blood sacrificed made Valkyrie Cores, for cultist reasons. It could have been a horror show on having had an 'unknown enemy' that conviently got smashed when "QAylor" happened.
But more seriously, it's probably going to lead to a lot of comedic noodle incidents, security violations, and UN having a migraine over Not!Thinker grade observation/paranoia/analysis on potential "Bad cop" being risk assessed as 'likely to potentially push her into going nuclear'...
But frankly, it'd be more of a joke if renegades and what-have-you (after conflict ball #3), spirals into QAylor trolling the UN by bringing in another "Friend" (read, Shard-friend), in accidentally giving Decimator a horrific idea to just go 'mr Stealth boy'. Only to end up finding more fun/worth it's mission, by utterly trolling the entire Battle Harem cast, like a Kaworu expy...
... And totally not if I went by that line of thought, falling for Coke Zero. Followed by making his life more hell than QAylor's.
