. . .
Dude, subs have guns that belongs to destroyers. All the good that you're gonna do is just scratch Bisko's paint at best.
They'll be rekt by Bisko's secondaries if they try to surface and attack. Not to mention that doing that is practically suicide.
...What part of 'for surface ships' implied I meant the subs? Hell, look back up the chain. The guy mentioned US torpedoes sucking. I pointed out that Albie knew how to use them. His response was that he wasn't referring to the US subs. I can only assume, then, that he meant the torpedoes being used by the surface ships...which have guns, which reduces their reliance on torpedoes.

I'm actually kinda offended you thought I was such a neophyte that I was saying that the subs should use their guns on Bismarck, if I'm being honest. I'm not the world's greatest tactician, but I'm not that bad.
If a sub is using her gun on anything but a defenseless merchant...that is a dead sub.
Yeah, I know. Again, I was talking about SURFACE SHIPS. Destroyers, Crusiers, Battleships. Okay, aircraft carriers are surface ships without decent guns, so that's kinda a flaw in my statement, should you want to nitpick. But this was not what I was talking about.

Edit: Look, I'll be the first to admit I have very little practical knowledge of naval combat, or combat in-general. Closest I get is military SF and video-games. Most of you guys outdo me in that regard excessively. But I ain't 'submarines should shoot at a battleship with their popguns' ignorant. Reading through this thread alone should have fixed that, had I been that uninformed to begin with.

Edit 2: Literally had my stepfather walk in with a letter from USAA about a 'Wounded Warriors' credit card after posting this. Reality is weird sometimes.

Rereading your post again, I realized my mistake as well. Sorry for that.

Apology accepted. No worries, it happens. More annoyed than mad. I know some people really are that ignorant.
Not to mention any direct hits on a sub would mortally wound it.
Also, it's really hard to fire conventional guns underwater. Which is kinda the whole point of making a submarine in the first place. Deck guns were mostly for targets that couldn't shoot back, or possibly as a last-resort, if everything's FUBAR. Might as well give it shot, in that case.

I mean. I was just replying to the post directly above mine. But whatever.
Ah. Sorry for jumping to conclusions. Though I would like to point out that misunderstandings like this are why I tend to quote the message I'm responding to, even if it's directly above. Because you can either get ninja'd, or (in this case) leave someone thinking you got ninja'd, and taking it the wrong way. Still, I probably should have looked a bit closer at the time-stamps. My bad.

to be fair, while US torpedoes have problems the sub crews knew how to fix them by mid-late 42, the problem was getting Bourds to implement those fixes during building rather than have to make the crews fix them.

Well, no. The contact pistols had to be remade with lighter parts to reduce binding friction so it would fire instead of crumpling in a dead-on impact.

Ive Just caught up with it over here.
Question, Did anything happen with that U-boat in the Gulf?
She showed up when Evil Sara did and Not sure what else.
Heck even from her description and Monologue Im not sure if shes Abyssal or Ship girl.
