It's like the Dresden Files. In every single book, Harry Dresden mentions his mother's pentacle amulet and uses it in some way. The amulet doesn't mean he's possessed by Margaret le Fay. He's still Harry Dresden.

But it doesn't mean that amulet doesn't have meaning or significance for him,

Hey, that's not bad. The parts from MomE could translate to jewelry. A ring, or a locket. I also despise the body-jacking, and agree with Sky for characterization, although I do like Enternity E's Yonaga.

Well, honestly I was thinking in terms of the shared hull parts creating a situation where the spirits of the ships are connected, for lack of a better term, so Big E would be able to lend her spiritual power to Nuke-E in 65's direst hour. Let 65's radar work properly against the Abyssals, etc.

Yeah, I really should have explained that better, shouldn't I? I'm an idiot.

Eh the radar isn't used as much. The real problem is thst no matter how Nuke E is helped, if it doesn't work on her fighters then its still pointless.

I kind of doubt it would make much difference, because most of the USN order of battle shares names with one or more WWII-era ships. If Enterprise benefited, so would almost everything we have except the Nimitzes.

There seems to be something special about WWII-era steel hulls that were actually around back then, but naming a new ship after the old one doesn't recapture the magic. Or doesn't recapture enough to notice.

It might not help her fight, but at least she'd be able to run. Which isn't exactly amazing, but at least she could keep her crew alive.

I really should have phrased that better. Basically, because 65 shares(minor) portions of her hull with 6, I figured that would allow 6 to reach out and lend 65 her power so that 65 wouldn't get whammied by Abyssal Spooky Bullshit.

I look at the Enterprise Carrier solution to be like this. Enterprise CV-6 is the Mom, with Enterprise CVN-65 being the Daughter, with inherited items. Enterprise CVN-80 is the Granddaughter who has even less items from Grandma because the items don't mean as much to her then it does to her mom.

So, no soul overriding the new boat.

Yeah, exactly. Because they share portions of their hulls, I figure 6 and 65 can lend each other strength at need. Obviously. since 6 is still "asleep", 65 giving her an assist wouldn't do anything, but Big E would be able to help out 65 by at least letting her see the enemy properly.

It's all quite moot because 65 was already decommissioned by the time the Abyssal war broke out, but I'm mostly trying to get a handle on how the spirity stuff works in this world.
 
The portholes are supposedly being returned to the museum anyway, not mounted on CVN-80. So Nuke-E-the-second has even less connection to Big E.
