If grabbing Shinano's butt was "just touching" and harmless, then Jersey's words were "just words" and even more harmless.

Conversely, there is no way to interpret Jersey's threat as a big deal, without also interpreting Creepo the Wonder Otaku's actions as a big deal.

One was a crass action by an asshole that presented zero actual physical threat. The latter action is a threat of violence delivered by a super human shipgirl that could spatter a man with minimal effort. One is in my opinion is a bigger deal. As the reader we have enough information about Jersey's thought processes to know she probably was not going to murder that guy and is going through a tough time emotionally. I am saying that to the crowd and their recording devices a battleship compressed into a girl picked up and threatened to kill a man for groping her friend's ass, which would seem like an over reaction. The JSDF and USN probably want to present these magical killing machines that are crucial to the war effort as stable and safe for the public which this does not help.

I mean really, you've got Shinano, who's so socially awkward she can barely stand to go out in public, and on her first outing in aforementioned public she gets her butt grabbed- forcefully by all appearances. What's the effect on her? If Jersey hadn't been there, do you think she'd have stood up for herself? Or do you think she'd have just quietly resolved to never go out in a crowd again for the rest of her days? Which sounds more in character for her?

So no, the way Shinano was treated was not harmless, and the lack of 'physical threat' is completely irrelevant. And there's a blatant double standard in considering some kinds of non-physical harm to be VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS with DIRE CONSEQUENCES, while considering other kinds of non-physical harm to be 'zero actual physical threat.'

Also, if you're going to go on about the recording devices, said devices captured Jersey's thought process very accurately:

Now, past this point Jersey says a number of things that I suppose can be spun as bad PR. I suppose, through highly selective listening to the incident as a whole, you can decide to conclude that Jersey is somehow in the wrong and a menace to society. That is, you can do those things if you're a smarmy jackass looking for an excuse to do so.

Personally I find such exercises tiresome and don't expect them to carry much weight.

Forget going out in public, she's so cripplingly shy has problems being around most of her fellow shipgirls. I think the only ones she doesn't have issues around are Ryuujou, Jun'you, Honshou, White Plains, Archie, Albie, Akagi, and maybe Jersey.

Thank you. Shinano may be a giantess (going by math from SB, I believe she should be around 6'1"), and she might have just gotten a badly needed boost to her self-confidence, but she's nowhere near emotionally hardy enough to handle random acts of asshole. Not yet. Probably not for a while.

Actually, it got mentioned over on SB as well as here I believe that Shinano is about 6'5".
 
I can't help but feel that if anyone in the USN intends to take Jersey to task over an obviously hyperbolic expression of hypothetical violence, "We did not nuke you guys enough," (directed at innocent people having fun in a way that Jersey finds incomprehensible) has much more potential for bad PR than "I'll rape your fucking corpse!" (directed at someone she's caught in the act of sexual assault). It's not theatrical pronouncements of impending violence are a new addition to her vocabulary*.

* Had I the time I'd love to take all of Jersey's dialogue and put together a pie chart breaking it down by category. This green slice represents obviously hyperbolic expressions of hypothetical violence; that blue slice represents profanity; the blue-and-green cross-hatched slice represents threats of violence that are also profane. The pink slice is requests for head scratches.

They just got off the shipgirls only traincar. The dude knowingly trespassed on a navy warship- "shoot on sight" is the allowable response.

Plus, while you claim there's no physical threat most people have a very *dim* view of clearcut sexual assault; Look at the uproar over the Stanford case or that idiot on Okinawa a few years back. Catching someone in the act, on film, and then some rough language to get them to apologize (in front of a cop at that)? Jersey will probably get a nice op-ed in the paper.

So, I'm a little confused. Why did Jersey think the girl was impossible, and asked if Shinano could see her too? There didn't seem to be anything strange about her, so I don't get Jerseys reaction.

I would like to propose that there is an equation in which the amount of Kongou needed to erode sanity is as such.

Coef. of sanity= 1^1/(Kt/K)+((tKI*qKI)/KI)

Or, in English,

The coeficent of sanity is one to the power time exposed to Kongou divided by the number of Kongou are in the area plus the time exposed to Kongou Impersonators times the quality of the Kongou Impersonators divided by the number of Kongou Impersonators.

Now, if the number of Kongous and Kongou Impersonators are 0, then the coeficent of sanity is therefore 1, and total sanity is maintained. If there are no Knogou-class in the area but there are Kongou Impersonators, there is still a slight drain on sanity, however the ammount of sanity drain as exposed to Kongou Impersonators falls off sharply with incresing numbers as the sheer confusion and disbelief of there being so many Kongou in the area forms a protective shield over some infinetly tiny chunk of sanity.

Time exposed to Kongou: 1 (minute)
Number of Kongou in the area: 1 (Bongo herself)
Time Exposed to Kongou Impersonators: 1 (minute)
Quality of Impersonators: 0.90 (Almost as good as originals)
Number of Kongou Impersonators: 3 (Kirishima, Hiei, and Haruna Cosplayers)
1^(1/1)+((1*0.90)/3)
Coefficient of Sanity: 1.3
Moderate sanity loss from a single minute.
Additionally, if there are no Kongou impersonators, but even four sisters, then there no mathematical sanity loss from any amount of time exposed.
