New York, under other, less pressing circumstances was still a terrible place to visit even if the fate of the world was not at stake. The traffic was bad, the pollution terrible, the skyline absolutely insane.
The only thing you liked about it was the Art Deco of the Empire State and Crysler buildings. And even then they were just two buildings in a city of hundreds of thousands.
But you were here for a different reason, and one where you felt, that if anyone listened… could change the world. You looked at the UN Delegation that you were standing in front of, and sighed "I have nothing substantial to report..."
The Council murmured. They were not expecting that. "I have nothing to report because this Body is a sham, that refuses to recognize the gravity of the situation at hand, that this body is only using me for their own political agenda, as I feared it would. That I would be used to fulfill an agenda that is not my own that would most assuredly delay the potential response that we must have for this new frontier." They all were silent now. "You want to use this information not to protect mankind from a horrible cyber disaster that we don't have a name for yet... Total Systems Collapse, or the Great Crash…and if we're poetic we can call it "The End of the Digital Age."
You breathed in. "None of you understand or are willing to understand the enormity of what is at risk. You never will, or you do not CARE to understand! Because if you did, you would have chosen better. You are putting a working father, an expert in his field, with no resources other than a bunch of old leftovers from a university campus that is not equipped to deal with the task I was given...if this is the only line of defense you are willing to make for the species...Then we will deserve what is coming to us."
"Dr. Wong, if you have nothing more to add to the record-" the delegate from Canada started, but you stopped him.
"But I do." You stated firmly. "We are playing the fire of creation we have no understanding of...I wish for a better world for my children...and if this panel cannot give me anything to make that a reality...using me for their political games of Cyberspying and nonsense. Then we have nothing left to discuss."
The Council Mumbled an accusation. "Dr. Wong, you are dismissed from this hearing about this new digital-"
"You already know…" You were accusing them all of the truth. And none were going to deny it. "if anything I was told after everyone else, that you've already done your studies, and are withholding the information from me out of a misguided sense of...I don't know what, fear, that you won't have leverage when it all goes to hell." You finished. "If this is who am to serve, then I am scared of what I will discover about you...then anything in the Digital World." You said.
The Cameras were still broadcasting as you stepped away.
And then there was pandemonium.

Agent Daisuke Aramaki was standing at the helicopter as the rotors turned. "Dr. Wong, it might be best if you get on the chopper!"
"Why, I don't leave for another two days!?" You demanded, and you then realized that there was the beginning of a riot building in the streets.
"Because you just exposed something that has been under wraps for the last five years!" He said as you were hurriedly pushed into the chopper. "And every major intelligence agency in the world is after you and your friends."
"Why? We're just computer scientists?!" You asked as the headphones to hear him. "The digital world is what people should be looking into, and how it could affect us?"
"Because it already has Dr. Wong. You have just taken a first step into a much bigger world."

Tokyo was a sight for sore eyes in the lonely darkness as the plane touched down, as Daisuke was swearing at everyone in… well not anger, but he was not happy.
"Those brain-dead idiots are playing politics while they clearly do not understand the dangers of the digital world and the greater connectivity of the internet." He was talking, and then he stopped , gathering himself as he looked at you. "Sorry, shouldn't have-"
"It's alright. I'm sorry that I screwed everything up."
"It wasn't you Dr. Wong, though I truly wish you hadn't been as antagonistic towards than as you were… it might have prevented you from being declared a wanted fugitive and terrorist."
"We did not intend to create the digital world when we created the Monster progream." You said, quietly.
"I know. No expected anything… but Dr. Wong." He paused to look at you. "As long as you hold the interests of the nation at heart, and are not doing stupid games of politics and intrigue, my door will be open."
"Thank you." You said.
