As Multiverses Colide (A Multiversal Crossover, Where Starting In the 90's Things Change)

I presume the public Magecraft users in this world would be comparable to those dudes with photographic memory
You know and accept they exist, they're just not everywhere, some might have a local news article about them or two but most are just hanging out

My admittedly limited understanding of the nasuverse is that the reason magic is getting weaker is because it's a fundamentally non-human imposition upon the basic rules that govern reality. By my understanding magic is a product of the Gods' collective will. This meant that it was incredibly powerful when they were the dominant species during the Age of Gods, but becomes physically impossible in the modern period of human domination, to the point nearly all magical beings and artifacts are banished to what is essentially a separate dimension. The thing modern mages practice, magecraft, is a poor shadow of the same kind of principles made by I think King Solomon when he figured out the way the wind was blowing on the Age of Gods. Unfortunately for them (though arguably fortunately for everyone else since mages suck) magecraft is also getting weaker because of the same basic principles. While its capabilities increase, the fundamental Mystery of the practice is dropping, which is bad because Mystery is the source of all supernatural phenomenon in the nasuverse. This is in part because humans are interpreted in the nasuverse as beings who are fundamentally bound by rules and understanding, and thus are attempting to figure out and subconsciously reinforce the rules of reality, meaning the laws of physics and other areas of science. Additionally, this is part of the reason that mages keep magic secret because the more people who know that magic exists, the less powerful it is (I also got the implication they're just selfish dicks who want to keep magic for themselves, though I also tend to draw that conclusion from every secret magic world story so take that with a grain of salt).

On the bright side (for mages, so the dark side really) my understanding suggests that magecraft would get stronger when all this weird stuff people don't understand starts happening, like a giant dragon robot fighting a giant winged tiger.

I only know this because of a wiki dive I did like 6 years ago when I was briefly really into fate, so it's entirely possible this is mostly wrong.

Did some wiki diving too
Apparently there is this thing in the setting called the Root, source of all magic and where souls come from, or something
The wiki was making my brain tired so I didn't check it out too much

Yeah, I think getting there is the goal of all magecraft because it's the only way to give yourself acess to magic. Most of the details escape me, and I figure it's not important beyond the fact it means some (like 5 or something) people don't have to follow the rules of magecraft and have just infinite power over a particular supernatural phenomenon.

I will never comprehend how Fate fans can keep up with this stuff + the timelines
Actually that reminds me of western superhero comic fans

I wonder if those 2 groups talk to eachother much, they might get along with their crazy amounts of dedication to complex lore

I know I'm pretty sure I barely scratched the surface when I got really into it years ago. I would say the authors got lost in the sauce but I'm not going to pretend like nobody enjoys doing these dives so whatever I guess (even if as far as I can tell none of it is relevant to the actual plot or themes of the stories). Even I who had uniquely little going on when I was young due to health complications felt like it was too much.

I recommend looking around at 90s media before asking questions about crossovers that are currently present in the world, pretty sure Ben 10 will occur somewhere in the beginning of the 2000s if the release is anything to go off of

Ben found the Omnitrix in the summer of 2005, the Plumbers, the intergalactic police force, has been active since long before then, and they also use that symbol as their badge

That's the thing. We don't!

Is it wrong that I'm honestly frightened by what might occur in the rumor mill?

Considering you have the whole Magoose dice thing going on? Yes be very afraid of what RNJesus might bring to bear.

Honestly with all the talk about Fate I'm half expecting the Beasts to appear.

What rumor mill? The quest has no rumor mill, no rumor shall scare the quest or the QM who forgot to record the rumor mill dice numbers.

I expect the rumor mill to not activate until maybe turn 40, if we get there. As the players have other priorities.

The reason I say that is because I rolled dice.

We shall get a rumor mill… eventually.

And things are fun.

You looked at the several men in suits that gathered in the room. "Dr. Wong, Agent Daisuke Aramaki, Public Security Intelligence Agency." The badge flew into your face as you looked at the many men who had now gathered in your lab. "I trust that you understand that nothing that will be said in this room will be… talked about to others?"

"What is the meaning of this, you know the UN-"

"The UN's mandate that they gave you was a smoke screen by other intelligence agencies to discover what exactly happened in Palo Alto all those years ago. Because they have known more about the digital world, well, we know of a digital world since 1989."

Great. More lies and espionage. "Then where am I in this scenario?" You asked.

"Simple, in two months, the United States will use its diplomatic leverage to quietly shutter this task force, and try to brute force its way into your work, while also planning on kidnapping you, and all the Monster makers that are still active."

Oh. "And how do you know this?"

"You are a citizen of Japan, and one of our biggest allies and trade partners are planning on violating several treaties and international laws to make sure that information that you have, all of you have, won't fall into other actors' hands… or nonstate actors as we have learned."

"And what does that mean for me."

"Keep quiet, and when the UN comes for answers, you say nothing. Tell them that they didn't give you anywhere near enough to get things done… once it's officially shuttered, you will learn about what this government has planned."

"And that would be?"

"We call it HYPNOS." The man smiled. "It's part of a new Public security office for cyber crimes and other… events that are still being created. HYPNOS is one of the offices of a newly formed orginization. Public Security Section Nine."

Reward: Next turn you will have to lie to the UN about your progress, to get the resources of the Japanese intelligence and government behind you.

-[X]Talk to the Monster Makers (Part 2): The Wild Bunch, the Monster Makers, are your old friends from college who created the Digimon, and maybe you can see what their insights are. DC: 20 Rolled:D100 + 9 => 19

The words of those agents scared you, so you didn't call. As much as you wanted to.

Things were too much.

Failure.
---------------------------------

-[X]The Codes: You saw a strange code in the Digital barrier as you looked at it. Like something was moving there? DC: ??? Rolled:D100 + 21 => 116

You saw the codes and looked at them closely, they were in binary, and it was simple enough to decode. But… there was something else…

"01010100 01100001 01101111 00001010"

You looked at the numbers before you realized it was… nickname, and began to translate them in earnest.

Before you smiled as you realized who it was.

You typed in. "Shibumi? But you're in a coma?"

The binary then went into English lettering. "Had a little help from friends on the other side in the digital world. My body won't be able to fully heal from my injuries until they see that my work is done, and while my coma is temporary, they are… trying to understand."

"Who?"

There was a pause. "The Digimon sovereigns. The leaders of the most powerful Digimon civilization in the digital world. They want to find out about humanity, how to build civilization, how those kinds of things work?"
You shook your head before continuing. "They should have asked Curly, she minored in anthropology and history?"

"I know, but that is the thing. Most of the digital world is on the cusp of what we would consider the agricultural revolution, at least in theory, they are building settlements and permanent places, but they always battle for dominance, with no rules or laws to really do anything else, and it's not getting any better with the proliferation of the trading card game."

"How?" You asked.

"Every time a game is played, a card is scanned into the calculator or tournament reader, and they are summoned out onto the Barrier, to fight. And then when they lose, they get destroyed and their data harvested until they get stronger to evolve… at least that is how they consider it."

Good god. "And it causes chaos for the entire digital world?"

"Yeah."

"What about the Barrier, do you think it's weakening?"

"I don't know about that, at least from my perspective. See nothing is powerful enough to breach it, and whatever was created was so powerful that it is akin to a digital deity."

"They created religion?" You asked.

"Or something akin to it." There were dots. "I can't communicate too much longer, I think something is tracking my movements."

"Stay safe Shibumi."

You were going to make a comment on how insane it was to talk to a friend who was in a coma, over the computer, but right now, you suspected that this was not going to be the weirdest thing that would happen to you in this year alone.

Reward: You have information.

Gain Ally in the Digital World, your old pal Shibumi. He can't help you too much given his current predicament, but you have ideas on he can help you, seeing as his mind is currently in limbo, in the digital world.

You can use this!

-[X]The Monsters (Part 2): If you can find out what the new monsters are coming out this year, maybe you can find a way to make them more… docile. DC: 50 Rolled:D100 + 21 => 48

Namco is adamant about continuing their plans, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.

Failure.

AN: Enjoy.

So wait...they've know about it for years and they waited until now to talk to us...I smell conspiracy.

You looked at the several men in suits that gathered in the room. "Dr. Wong, Agent Daisuke Aramaki, Public Security Intelligence Agency."
Aramaki is here we can trust this guy right?

He's not working for the enemy.
"We call it HYPNOS." The man smiled. "It's part of a new Public security office for cyber crimes and other… events that are still being created. HYPNOS is one of the offices of a newly formed office. Public Security Section Nine."
And Section 9 confirmed...how long until we meet the Major and watch her mess with us.

Heh...well that's convenient.

Aramaki's definitely a guy we want on our side. The man's a political genius who uses his brilliance and leadership skills to bring some measure of justice in the corrupt world of Ghost in the Shell no matter the culprit even if they're big movers and shakers in his own government.

Yes, but you must also remember this.

We'll be working for HYPNOS, and he's not in charge of Section nine yet...

So we're going to have play politics before he can save our ass... or prove we're competent.
Either way, it's going to get real wierd.

Some Digimon are picking berries grown in a little digital grove they cultivated until a Biyomon falls over and says
"Numemon I don't feel so good"

Numemon sheds a single viscous tear as their friend is transported away in a cloud of pixels, and then the gross Digimon screams to the heavens
"WWWWWWHHHHHHHYYYYYYYYY!"

Meanwhile in the human world

"I play my Biyomon card!"
