And, as you pointed out (and I checked) we can already produce grenade launchers, so we don't really get anything new (though I'm wondering why we didn't have an option to get them, yet).

I'm guessing the issue here is that we can produce the grenade launchers themselves, but not the ammo for them. Without grenade fruit research they're probably only useful as clubs.

I am getting the urge to tell everybody that we are marching the majority of our forces to finish the raiders, instead hide them in the subway tunnels under Shattersaw, wait for or even precipitate a conflict between the 504 and Dragonflies, then surge up and bust heads. Between forcing the aggressor out without provoking retaliation, putting the other on the diplomatic back foot, and the diplomatic actions winning over the Gravetenders, we would be the indisputably dominant polity in Shattersaw and have a good chance of bringing it under our full control as another base.

We are apparently capable of making our own chemical slughthrower rounds, which could be altered.

The problem is that the Grenades alone will most likely require 3 turns of research alone, assuming average rolls on our research dice; even with the Research Facility assigned to it. If that the armor requires the same amount of RP, we'd be looking at 6 turns of research, in average. That's not really all that quickly.

And, as you pointed out (and I checked) we can already produce grenade launchers, so we don't really get anything new (though I'm wondering why we didn't have an option to get them, yet). We also don't know how long the research for the Bark Cultivars will take; we might easily be looking at another 3 years or so, possibly more.
So, 6 years to get something truly useful out of that research path. Not really worth it at the moment, in my opinion.
We have the designs for grenade launchers, presumably we don't have the grenade design. You would think that Academia nut would mention that.

Given that your time to complete anything is about 7 turns for Design and then another 4ish turns to get anything, 3 turns is short term.

I don't like either of our most stand-out neighbors, the 504s and the Dragonflies, and if I was around earlier, I'd have voted for peace but no marriage, and then find some way to hit them again and again in the face. First because they deserve it (so do the 504s, though at least their hearts are in the right place...not that that'd stop me from hitting them in the face) and second because ultimately building up a culture, the last thing we need is an Aristocracy. A barnacle upon ourselves that we're going to have to deal with. And third, OOCly, because we've seen tons of 'Make a dynasty, be a King' quests, so it'd be fun to see something else for once.

Now that we're into it, we might as well keep at it. A split policy, in which we accept a political marriage of a sort we don't want while not honoring the spirit of it is the worst possible option. We either accept that in marrying him we're marrying into and have to change a horrible, ridiculous, rather silly and oppressive system, or we shouldn't have married him at all (and I admit, he's been a better husband than I thought he'd be). Half-measures leads to everyone hating us for nothing.

I will again raise a hand for eventually trying to flood the markets with Sap, at cost, or something like that, because while apparently the 'proles' accept the Baron's rule at least vaguely (mostly because they have no reason to expect more) it's a really fragile thing he has going. Ultimately his Nobles are rent-seeking, financial parasites, holding an artificial monopoly over resources as a way to hold power. The 504s probably aren't that different in one sense, I bet, but eh. Either way, breaking the back of the Janissary System is the key to taking over from the Dragonflies.

Though we'd probably also be helped by different Morale systems, since right now pretty much every side (including us I suppose if we're outgunned, outnumbered, and incompetently led...which we've never been) can soak up massive casualties and just shrug and get a decent roll to keep on fighting.

Thus far we've been balancing alright against it, but eventually if we ever face enemies closer to us technologically, their ability to be Khornates will be difficult to overcome.

And at the moment, the Dragonflies are the ones closest to getting to that level, since the 504s are hung up on melee.

You decide to avoid any major expeditions this year and instead focus on getting your military back into shape and generally working on your infrastructure. Despite the calls for a hospital to be constructed, you decide that you want to have proper education in place to help you maintain your primary edge: technology. Fortunately the process is quite easy to do, mostly just turning former office space into labs and teaching rooms. Some of your population will have to transfer over to provide the teachers.

Actually, now that you think about it, why can't the students participate in research?

Also, now that you think about it, you have enough trained soldiers that theoretically they could take up training duties. Something to think about, now that you consider it.

First New Research and Teaching Centre being Built! New Research Unlocked!

Being so much closer to home for all of your work also means that you have a better chance to interact with your two daughters. While you already had something of a handle on their growing personalities, you can definitely tell that Mirande is the more bellicose of the two while Anna prefers to remain still and play with her blocks. Actually, for her age Anna is showing a remarkable degree of understanding of numbers and letters, although Mirande isn't too far behind with letters even if she has no interest in numbers for the most part.

Actually, now that you watch them in their play, you have to note with some concern how active and rough Mirande can be with Anna, despite the latter still being small and sickly. Maybe you should have a talk with her about it, point out how she needs to be gentler with her sister.

Mirande should...
[] Be allowed to continue as she has, it might even help Anna's constitution (0.9x)
[] Be given a talking to about how Anna isn't too strong and she needs to be more gentle (1.2x)
[] Have the law laid down about appropriate behaviour (1.1x)

Of course Anna isn't exactly a little saint herself, considering that she seems to have figured out that she is treated differently and likes to take advantage of the fact, being a bit of a brat. In fact, her sister was the only one who seemed to fail to grasp this fact. You do worry that if Mirande stops dragging Anna around it might be the final stage before Anna starts acting like a completely pampered princess.

Anna should...
[] Be left be, she is sick after all, and she will probably just grow out of it (0.8x)
[] Be encouraged to try harder because of her illness rather than sitting back (0.9x)
[] Be given more things to do that are within her capacity to keep her active (1.2x)

While you are dealing with this bit of developing family dynamics, you receive a diplomatic message from the 504s. Apparently they have heard word of your recent developments in food production technology and they want to trade you for it. Their initial offer is a tit for tat deal, to give you some of their expertise with working with industrial equipment for your agricultural knowledge, but there are also other offers put on the table for you to consider. If you don't want their research, the 504s are willing to send over a considerable amount of refined resources to you, or even just a huge pile of trade goods.

For the trade offer
[] No deal
[] Tech for tech is good (Gain 500 RP in Infrastructure Design)
[] Refined materials would help with our manufacturing (Gain 10 refined resources)
[] Trade goods are just fine (Gain 2500C)

Frankly I'd like to keep our tech edge up. That trade boost should let us generally solidify the foothold we've built in Greengraft and Glenshade.

As for our new research projects (Barracks Design [0/100] and Student Projects [0/250]) It sounds like we have a chance to have steady growth of Academics and Soldiers.

Have the kids specialize in their own aspects, I'm not sure we'd be able to treat birth complications by roughhousing.

It's based off of personality, and it adjusts the weighting.
I mean that having the multiplier visible might be affecting player vote choice.

I see bandwagons for Dia's favored choice (which is represented by the highest multiplier) and not many votes for the other ones.

This reminds me of Squishy's bulletin announcement how quests seem to not have a lot of player input in making decisions.

We have the multipliers due to our trend in votes early on, so it is a good bet that the options with high multipliers are often going to be things we are are already somewhat inclined to vote for.

But why does it have to be visible so that the voter who hasn't contemplated choices as much see's the multiplier attached and votes on impuls avoiding more thinking of the actual content of what he would be voting.

I used this example because I caught myself doing it and now have to analyze all my choices from if it is what I think is best or if the number/bandwagon is affecting me.

Establishing a precedent of tech-sharing is a lovely thing - and we actually *want* them to have that tech. As the source of it, we get prestige from people finding favor with it (ie, eating it instead of starving), making an eventual incorporation into our polity easier.

EDIT: On the other hand, trading tech for production is *also* advantageous in allowing expansion... but I think we want to get what they know first right now; we're not overly-strapped for materials.
