I also think it's foolishness to train new Squads of soldiers if we can't even equip them with the weapons that make our Soldiers so feared and potent locally.

The front page is getting updated tonight after work, but it was either do everything all at once tonight or get the update to you last night and fix the front page today and update later tonight so that you can spend two days on the argument on personal actions since I am busy Friday nights.

Yay more debates!
I'm only a little bit sarcastic, they can be quite fun at times. Any answers for the many questions we have?

.
But trading in 1 chemical slug thrower, or machine gun, or whatever our soldiers use for a SAW is definitely a good deal.

All our regular soldiers are using military grade EM assault rifles, some with underbarrel grenade launchers.
These assault rifles are at least comparabe, probably superior to a conventional machine gun.

My intention with them is less raiding, and more intimidation. They have little to gain and, with all our new SAWs, lots to lose. If somebody defected to them, it might be a different story. United as we are with all the other factions in the area, the losses they'd incur just would not be worth any aggression over the area.

I intend to try to convince people to buy next turn AA LAC's for at least 6000, better 8000 or more.
This way we will be able to effectively engage air borne targets. While this would not change us getting crushed by Authority, 60 or so AA LAC's will be a far better intimidation/deterrent than twenty or so more SAW's.

Because all these LAC's could shoot down an Authority transport, were we to get lucky, and these are losses that Authority can ill afford.

AA would definitely deter them much more than any number of SAWs, if what we know of their tech is accurate they don't have the ability to replace aircraft at all.

Not much argument this time since everyone's united on the plan to fix our brain with Gravekeeper books.

Our Academics are aging, and we need more. Our research advantage is one of our biggest assets, so let's take steps to continue it.

And what does Improved Teaching Methods have to do with that? Remember that all it does is reduce the amount of Academics/Artisans who have to act as teachers in the schools. The schools themselves still educate the same numbers of students.
Actions, and Space/Power concerns are more of a restriction for us, here, than the amount of teachers necessary. It'd be nifty if we'd need less, but not really all that crucial, compared to simply opening up more schools.

We lack artisans to man the teaching centres and ideally we should massively ramp up the number of them we have. For me the next tech (after this one) is a toss up between ai1 and teaching methods as it frees up both academics and artisans. Being able to train twenty artisans a turn and taking up 60 to do so is vastly superior to our current outlay of 80 to 20. Especially as we should ideally have a good few more mprts for our artisans and academics to staff.

i would vote for AI, since it will improve the "Upgrade Archival Tools to be networked together." action we are taking this turn.
But yes, better teaching methods are relatively cheap and important, especially since we need more teaching centers.

Not sure yet about intelligence actions or Research. I'll admit, Improved Teaching is tempting. It's a pretty tiny project.

While we'll probably want Improved Teaching II soon - my inclination would be once UAM Design is complete - right now it doesn't really help us, What we'd need to do is assign our Research and Teaching Centers to teaching - paticularly Artisans, and *KEEP* them on teaching. Which means we'll likely have to shut down one of our Machine Shops for a year, and assign the staff to teaching, instead.

Then, see about building some schools.
*NOT* Research and Teaching Centers, but simply schools. With no ability - and thus no temptation - to change them from teaching to research.

Hey, we've heard the man. Maybe we should, you know, buy some SAWs if we're going to get more troops?

With one round of soldier training we'll have 200 soldiers, so we should have at least 23 SAWs. One for each squad, and then one for each 'location' as a garrison. More might be nice, but I'll leave it to the people who are doing the math as to what we can afford.

This comes down to the urgency with which we expect to use our full compliment of troops. The crew's brainbug is compelling us to work full-tilt towards the UAM design tech which will drop their prices "like a stone", and there is a nontrivial chance that we will end up purchasing the entire tech from the Machine Heads this turn anyway. There's also the point that that action could be used to train a pretty hefty chunk of soldiers- who might be more of a combat advantage than additional SAWs considering that they come with armor, are the only local force who can really work in the woods, and already have grenade launchers and EM rifles as standard arms.

I'd like to keep a nice chunk of change to the side for our interactions with the machine heads as I think we should try buying mechs off them potentially.

We already have 20 mechs' worth in the bank, and unless we are going to be sharing compact reactor and weaponized mech tech the value of their contribution is uncertain.

"Expect"
that's why.

Also, having more guns can make us more intimidating when dealing with the authority, or anybody at all.
actually, I am expecting trouble with Eldar relatively soon. Maybe not immediately, but the respect we gained from the neutral eldar makes us a more appealing target to the frat-boy eldar.

On the plus side, we also folded like a wet napkin and they decided their new toy was not as fun as they had hoped.

I don't think that the Eldar challenge is going to come down to force of arms. If it does, we have little choice but to join up with The Authority since they don't seem to be doing terribly well despite being decades beyond what we are capable of.

Because all these LAC's could shoot down an Authority transport, were we to get lucky, and these are losses that Authority can ill afford.

The AC(L) are not currently capable of AA work, our SAWs are comparable in hitting power while being more maneuverable, we don't know if they would have any effect on The Authority's craft (we had to wait for the scorched wreckage of their crashed scout craft to turn its own shield off because we literally had no way to get through it even at point blank range in controlled conditions), and if they did The Authority can drop several hundred of their wallrunning supercyborg jetpack shocktroopers into the forest to storm the emplacements before completely depopulating us as we have been told they have to several other polities.

Besides the Land train should allow us recruitment of people/whole settlements further out, thus gaining more artisans/academics as well.

If that's your interest it is time to slap a reactor into an airship and go exploring.

I'm pretty sure that we get access to the design logic of a category after we research one example of that category, and we have a number of high cost vehicle projects (flare shield and orbital transport) that could be majorly advanced. Best case scenario we get a 500 rp vehicle design logic to boost us 2750+ rp (25% of 10000+1500), although we are likely to get less due to having chunks gated by field physics and the like.

We might want to consider building another barracks in Glenshade manor, that would help deal with the military coverage issues that the surrounding communities are worried about. As for Auto-cannon, those should wait until we have the AA-mountings ready.

Actually, come to think of it, the SAW's might also give us an approval boost, considering the majority enjoyed by the dominionist party.
