Actually, that's kind of my point. That's thought, that's cunning, that's self-interest. That's reason. We can't afford a reasonable Psyker. We need the ones that are fanatics, willing to follow beyond the point of sanity, emotion, or thought. We don't need Psyker friends, we need Psyker slaves. Slaves bound by chains that they can't see, that they can't break.
Because in the end, the struggle against Chaos isn't reasonable. Any rational person would look at Chaos and realize that, sooner or later, they are going to win the war for sols. (Barring Tyranids or Necrons) They are stronger, smarter, and inexhaustible. When it comes right down to it, the struggle against Chaos is futile, because humans are inherently Chaotic. We aren't struggling against some unknowable alien force with Chaos, rather we are fighting something we know all too well: the face in the mirror.
Worse, we are fighting the universe. Evolution favors those that adapt to their environment. Chaos has become the 40K universes environment. Therefore, those best adapted to Chaos are the most perfectly evolved. That's what makes Psykers the next step in human evolution: They are adapting, evolving, to fit the environment they are in. Chaos.
And that is why we need to test Jinah and all other Psykers early. Because if they have any weaknesses, any at all, they can never be what we need, and putting them down would be a mercy. Or mind-wiping them. Whichever.

Psyker's should not be slaves, they should rule, they are the next step up a being superior in every way to the modern human.
Besides the only group I'm in favor of doing horribly unethical things too is the Eldar.
who as far as I'm concerned can be broken mentally physically and spiritually then made into slaves and eventually into dragon fertility booster's.
if we can't kill them all and can't even get rid of the ones on planet then we might as well make the ones on planet into something that's actually useful.
it'd be fitting revenge anyway.
They wanted to break us, they killed our dad, destroyed our mom's sanity.
We'll break them, make into nothing but slaves and puppets for our will, crush their arrogance under our boots and when they are no longer useful for any other purpose, use them to make new dragons.
