A Naruto Mook Quest [The Gamer/Naruto]

A luck build won't twist fate into itself to give you an advantage. Some things will improve, but your "real life luck" won't so don't expect to win a fight with pure dumb luck even if you had luck 500.

>.< Why do people assume putting 5 points into luck here means that we would be aiming for a luck build? Bleh.

[x]keep stat points for later.

We can train luck the good old-fashioned way.

Poker.

But yeah it's a hell of a lot easier to raise low stats. Let's not take the +N points and use them where they'd have the least benefit.

[X] First off, Observe Shadow. Use it to gain whatever info possible. Next, throw some kunai or rocks at him and then engage him in taijutsu. Try to get rid of his kunai or take it for yourself. Beat the crap out of him once you do. Use Kawarimi whenever you can't just dodge and try throwing in some Bunshins every now and then to see if it distracts him. If you get injured and you are too close to dying, eat some of the Roach Meat, but use it sparingly.

"Still, the damn roach meat could at least taste a bit better", you said as you munched the damn thing, idly nothing that you probably ate more than you thought possible and still doesn't feel 'full'. Well, technically you do, but on the other hand you don't feel like you're going to burst from eating all that meat, when you suddenly realize two things. A) you apparently have a bottomless stomach and B) you have been eating raw, unknown meat for the better part of a few hours.
We should see about cooking it, probably can improve the taste and also raise the amount of HP it recovers.

A luck build won't twist fate into itself to give you an advantage. Some things will improve, but your "real life luck" won't so don't expect to win a fight with pure dumb luck even if you had luck 500.
would it work like in fallout 4 where you basically got crits coming out the wazoo and constantly critting things for massive damage?

The luck build is basically asking the GM to do everything for them. It's for the people who don't want to play The Gamer in a Gamer quest.
Dunno what other wants, but I am thinking better teachers. Better skills, quests, loot and encounters would be nice to. Don't care about damage. Luck probably increase that.

Not really, when people make a luck build they are hoping for a number to be added to rolls on for encounter table, loot table, and crits.
Of course many QMs don't even use such tables, so it is important to ask for clarification from the QM before you do a luck build.
So, @ryuan, what does luck do mechanically in the quest?

So what? Just crit chance, loot drops and maybe any skills that have a percentage chance of working? I'd want to at least grind it just to see what kind of skills it gives but that's more of a side project. Bet we could bribe Tsunade with being able to grind and put points into luck though. So that's fun. Assuming luck affects gambling. Since that's a game of chance instead of just "Oh my a 100000 exp quest to step on a spider? It's my lucky day."

Tsunade's luck thing is more complicated, she seems to be a luck manipulator. When the 3th hokage was killed by orochimaru she suddenly started winning big, and was unhappy about winning because she realized her luck manipulations were failing and something awful happened. This is part of the thing a lot of others seem oblivious to when they try to push her to stop gambling

Also, I sincerely hope we can't do the whole "make a party and get them to power level / grind" thing. It tends to really bog down gamer quests beyond reason

Was thinking it was divination tech. You are always unlucky if things/person will go well, but if you win something very bad will happen. Guess luck manipulation fits to.

So very true. The Gamer becomes The Trainer.

Of course, in the last gamer quest we focused almost entirely on grinding and had to be forced into storylines to actually get stuff done (not to mention the almost ADD for shinies, too), in which case we ended up really not doing a lot for a very long while. Hopefully that this is in the universe of Naruto we won't just be grinding things in perpetuity like last time.

And I'd rather actually have friends and train with them rather than go solo, because then we'd actually interact with people rather than reading updates of "you did x, it worked gave y levels in z skill". I know things got powerful but reading so many updates of that got somewhat boring.

In comparison, this quest has been much better about interspersing action and downtime, keeping the pacing pretty well instead of focusing too heavily on one side.

Can I suggest keeping them in reserve and then applying right before we start fighting? After the light tentacle already sucked some Chakra from us?
If we are fighting a shadow of our-self then boosting ourselves after it's been made seems like the smart thing to do.

I mean....we're going to eventually be on a three person team, it would be beyond stupid to harm our ability to survive because we don't want to "train" our teammates. You seem to be forgetting that nearly every other student in our year is superior to us, if anything they would be carrying us.

We've been slacking for years and have the ultimate ramping ability. That's not a thing that's going to last.

In any case, ID Create shouldn't be a thing, because that was not a core gamer ability but an ability he learned from the setting he was in, and Parties shouldn't be a thing because that mechanic is really bad for moving the plot along and turns the story into even more of a grindfest.

We now have two things I'd really rather not see make an appearance. :V

Final Year - Month 2 - Tamagahara Hidden Garden 3
You use Observe on the Shadow, but before you could do anything with the screen open the enemy dashes towards you with his weapon in hand. It slashes and stab at you at a decent speed, but not so fast that you can't block it most of the time and only taking small cuts from the few attacks that pass through.

You don't stay idle though, dismissing the obscuring screen and giving back as much as you took. You try to disarm the enemy, but you don't have much luck with it. You're not bad with a weapon, specially now that you got the knife mastery, but trying to disarm him sounds like an exercise in futility. It doesn't appear to be in pain as you stab it, neither it does look tired from your attacks.

As it lunges towards you, you perform a quick Kawarimi with some discarded kunais you threw earlier, getting on his back before going after him.

Just for him to perform his own kawarimi with the same discarded kunais to evade your attack. You tried performing a bunshin to try and get the upper hand, but so did he and now there are four shadows coming at you, and differently from your own bunshin since they are pitch black it's even harder to distinguish them between each other. You throw several kunais towards them to see who is real and who isn't but it doesn't do much since they keep changing positions between them.

Still you persevere, sometimes getting back the kunais you threw at him to have enough ammo to distinguish between then and making sure you can track the original.

You health had dropped to three fourths when you kick yourself in the head for missing the painfully obvious.

"Observe", you quickly say and with this you can differentiate the enemy by the change in the stats. Wtih the target right in front of you you ignore the rest since they are insubstantial and continue the fight. You also see his health bar when using observe, so you know that you are winning the fight right now, if only just.

More attacks are exchanged and you manage a lucky strike on it's chest, taking a huge portion of it's life, however when you did that the enemy took some kunais in his hand that came from nowhere and threw a shower of weapons in front of you, several shadow kunai sticking on your body before they disappeared. Thankfully the pain faded quickly and you went back to attack.

With a last flurry of blows you managed to kill the shadow, or at least you dropped it's health bar to zero. Good thing too since your own health had dropped to one fifth it's original contents.

The shadow stopped just as you had your kunai piercing it's heart, before doing a motion that looked like nodding, and he dissipated into motes of light, leaving loot behind.

+300 xp
+5 Soldier Pills (low), +10 Kunai (Common), +1 Skill Book [Buki Arashi no Jutsu]
+1000 ryo

You pant a bit from the exertion and you start munching on the rest of your roach meats for safety sake, but even as you finish eating it you see that nothing else was happening. Looking back the entrance had opened and the air around the cave looked brighter somehow. Looking at the stone surface you make sure not to disturb the seal on the ground, and once in front of it you touch the surface revealing it to be a skill book.

You found the skill book Kuninominaka.
Do you wish to learn it?
Accept/Refuse

You don't know why but it looks like it's your ticket out of this place. Clicking accept the stone tablet shone a bright white light before it crumbled into dust in front of you and you felt knowledge enter your head. Suddenly you knew what to do.

Drawing chakra into your navel just so, you shaped it with a long sequence of handseals you doubt you will ever forget before pushing chakra over your body, and you felt all chakra you had fading away instantly. As you did that, the place appeared to shatter like glass, and you found yourself standing in an entirely unrelated place of the village, a few people being surprised by your sudden arrival, but most of them just took a glance at you before going back to their lives.

Just as that happened a new panel indicating your quest was successful appeared and you got a new skill book on the ground.

You found the skill book Amanominaka
Do you wish to learn it?
Accept/Refuse

Clicking refuse for now you put it into your pouch before you get back home. It's already getting late and the night is falling, even if back into the dungeon the place was always sunny.

Accuracy lowered to 20%
Area of effect: 5 meters

Kuninominaka (Active) (Level 1) (Cost: Special) [0/10]
By channeling chakra in a special way it's possible to escape special dimensions back to the normal world.
Minimum cost 100000 cp
When minimum cost can't be paid the skill costs all the user chakra and can be used only once per day

Amanominaka (Active) (Level 1) (Cost: Special) [0/10]
By channeling chakra in a special way it's possiblet o create a temporary dimension created to the whims of the caster.
Minimum cost 100000 cp
When minimum cost can't be paid the skill costs all the user chakra and can be used only once per day
Dimension design features increase with higher INT, WIS and skill level

The first one was easy enough to comprehend, a rather standard attack just that enhances your body to perform a difficult attack, but the other two...

So apparently you can create and escape from special dimensions now. "Guess that's a thing because I'm the gamer?" You say while shaking your head, "my ability is so strange..."

Well, that's a lot of excitement you had for one day. You do have school tomorrow after all.
