A Little Vice (Trans Magical Girl fic)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I dunno, my experience with Support Main Complexes - or maybe it's just healer mains - is more along the lines of "burning hatred of all that lives due to how many times they've had to pull some moron's arse out of a fire they voluntarily got into" than "but how will I know if I'm doing enough?"
You are not the first person to make that observation.

By the time Chiro accepts that she's a girl, she'll have reached the second stage.

Well, they aren't common in Brazil. My mom thinks they don't exist. My thermometers when young were mercury ones.
Believe it or not, the oldest thermometers I'm familiar with were mercury thermometers meant to be used orally, with the actual fluid encased in a lot of safety glass and the conductive metal tip that actually sensed the temperature. Those got replaced by electronic oral thermometers some time fairly early in my childhood for reasons I hope are obvious.

Lupin.

Everything is wrong with you.

Why.

Why can't you ever let yourself feel sad?
Lupin: "Cause I don't want to, and I'm willing to do anything to keep it so!"
HUMANITAS I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE DOING THIS AGAIN.
"How many times do we have to teach you this lesson, little girl?!"
Chiro.

Chiro you are so stupid.

You had a wholeass Transgirl Werebat Madoka Rebellion Arc and you STILL HAVEN'T CRACKED THAT EGG.

I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU.

I CAN'T FUCKING BELIEVE YOU.

WHY.

WHY!?!?!?!?
Because she has not clad herself in egg shell, but the shell of a neutronium star's core.

I can't believe this Michael was JUST as annoyed about having to wait for Angelic Saint Humanitas she's straight up chomping at the bit to make some cracked out Mahou Shoujo Nephilim-chan.
Michael, watching this kid hurt herself and her friends for so many episodes in her density. And finally, finally, getting to cut to the heart of the matter, tell it straight to ehr about her issues, and give a bracelet even if Weird Shit might ensue.
"Please, just let Temperance shove you into a dress already. A significant part of her allowance goes into buying potential outfits for you. Satisfy her, beforethe banks tart noticing all the money I 'appropriated'."
The wind turns off her ears if a terf is speaking.
Yeah, she has advantage against Superbia by being able to make him shut the fuck up.

For me it's
"Oh, maybe a disaster is coming soon! It could be fun!"

Oh, thermometers where I live have always been armpit ones, within my lifetime.

Mercury thermometers can be oral. The mercury's only on the inside.

(IIRC, Electric ones are a lot faster, which means less time with a hard object under your tongue. Also no worries about the glass breaking.)

Nice people become support mains. Support mains become jaded. It's a whole "How will I know if I'm doing enough?" to "Here's some HP, don't spend it all in one place" pipeline.

"Wonder, now we have the perfect opportunity for the Virtue-Vice Combo Power Up!"

MARKETABLE ACTION FIGURE BUSINESS STRATEGY LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
"Let's save it for a future season. Let the fans marinate in the possibilities, build up hype."

The wind turns off her ears if a terf is speaking.
Humanitas has healing powers, and that kind of thing is necessary for her mental health.

Wait does Superbia even know this is Chiro?
Who else would she be? Michael? Uriel? Avaritia?

...it would be really funny if he thought she was Avaritia.

Chiro is gonna be SO fucking annoying with that newfound smidgen of self-respect. Fantastic.
I: "She's not anywhere near as bad as Temperance."
T: "Thank you."

Knowing you are just never going to match up for her "Hey Bestieeeeeeeeeee" energy?

FINALLY SUPERBIA LIVES LIKE INVIDIA HAD TO!!!
Technically he was in that situation before, with Avaritia around. He just didn't care.

Actually huh, I was gonna mention how this is the first time we've seen either of Ida and Temperance's named stock attacks, but it's interesting that Temperance's isn't three words like the rest of the team, even total newbie Chiro.
Three months ago:
T: "Temperantia Wet Cascade!"
I: "...good, good, maybe workshop the name a little."

Like, really! What else is there to do when someone who has promised to never ever change only leaves the options for death, and the same imprisonment for however many eons that made him reach the point he'd really, actually prefer death in the first place?
Yeah. This is, like, a thought experiment that death penalty proponents will suggest to try and guilt you into saying maybe we should slaughter criminals.

Chiro why are you FUCKING like this.

A man almost died.

You are maybe trying to make sure he dies.

Have some dignity.
Look, she's gone through a lot of character development. We can't expect her to finish that journey all at once.

THE THESIS TO A LITTLE VIIIIIIIIIIIIICE!!!!!

Superbia Slinky in the princess carry having to hear this Care Bear nonsense is really, so special.
S: "Why has no one killed me yet?"

HUMANITAS I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU'RE DOING THIS AGAIN.
Look, she's gone through some character development. We can't expect her to reach the halfway point all at once.

THEY'RE SO CRINGE AND LOVING I CHERISH YOU SISTERRRRRRRRRRRS!!!
More magical girls should embrace being cringe. You're gonna cringe at your past self if you don't convince your bestie to roast you with a thousand flaming arrows, so enjoy it while you can.

(Ida is off to the side very confused because no one actually explained the trans overtext to her)
The token straight ditz. I give 30% odds that she thinks Inessa is straight and just wanted fashion advice or something from Lupin.

TEMPERANCE ATWATER THE TERRIBLE TERRIBLE NAMER.
Kindness Sweetwind is such a terrible name. It's so much worse than Temperance Atwater. She must know what she's doing, right? She's being a troll again, right?!?

Chiro.

I suspect she will bounce between those 2 depending on the mood, especially since she considers Inessa a sibling, and I can honestly say I've felt both of these at various points of time.

Never let Temperance name anything ever again, she is medically lacking the part of the brain that can make up new names at this point, she needs an intervention

I still use mercury thermometers, they are more accurate in my experience, also I have never put them in my mouth usually under my armpit, having mercury almost inside me it's scary

Temperance at this point needs to just tell Chiro that she can be trans, or at least get her talking to other trans gals so that she actually understand what trans people are. At this point, she's sticking to the prime directive even while chiro is halfway to discovering warp travel.

I mean she did try that but I think what's needed here is a different tactic. Something that makes her confront the issue without simply presuming it to her face as Tempe and Avaritia have been doing, but also much more direct than Inessa's "I'll support you no matter what bestie" tack.

Or they just let Chiro keep faking it till she makes it till she realizes that she was never faking it.

I think Chiro just needs to talk to a trans person that has lived on earth for more then a year, I think that would help her to have someone to talk about this stuff to that's actually from the same society as her and who didn't use magic to transition, I think that would help her with figuring out that she's trans and all that stuff.

On god, never met a type of player that hates actually doing their job more than support players

Guess FFXIV is the outlier in bad experiences? It was mostly enjoyable for me, except that one tank that kept losing health too fast, so I had to constantly heal him. It was mostly annoying, but figuring out how to beat one boss fight while the party fell apart and died was fun.

Your tank should be using cool downs and self heals to keep up with most of the hits they take - you do more damage than them in FFXIV, so you using a GCD ability to heal is a big loss compared to them doing it. Save your healing for if they get very low or tank buster attacks, and getting DPS back up if they eat mechanics. Ideally you should be playing green dps most of the fight.

Yup, that's how I go. Even if looping two buttons (attack, reapply DoT when it runs out) can get boring. I wait until they get low on health. The tank was just annoying, and I was planning to let him die in the dungeon's last boss. But I got too in the job, and forgot.

That, I didn't know. Tanks do low damage?

Hmm, question now is. What would Chiro actually main in an MMO? She likes supporting, but seems like she'd try to be a DPS

most of the time healing and supporting is fun (depends on the game) but sometimes you're trying your best and everyone blames you, guess it's a skill issue for me

In my experience, it's not so much a "skill issue" as a "who are you working with" issue. Tanks and DPS are about as enjoyable in any team, but the support experience varies wildly between (say) a team of cautious veterans and a team of foolhardy noobs.

I think she's default either to whatever felt lowest responsibility or was most obviously fem. If the game had gender locks for classes, she'd absolutely gl on to whatever and insist it was a gameplay choice.

I do think she'd really enjoy healer, both in terms of supporting others and being able to feel a very tangible sense of contributing to the party, but she'd have a lot of performance anxiety in any more demanding content.

Pre-cannon, however, she'd feel really inexplicably embarrassed about playing a "feminine" job in any social circumstances even if her character would obviously be a girl.

Which is to say that if she played XIV, which she doesn't, she would have started out as a summoner main who desperately longed to be a sch instead and would probably be leveling up dancer post-canon and feeling oddly good whenever she got teased about it.

Temperance would go BLM, Inessa RDM for Alisaie reasons, Avaritia DRK or reaper. Superbia would 100% play PLD.

Ida would not have time for mmos in any possible world so she leveled pugilist to 20 something and keeps planning to catch up and play with everyone but cannot find time.

Tanks out damage healers in single target (less so in aoe), but tanks can mitigate damage with ogcds while still maximum their personal dps.

Healers have a lot of tools they can use between casts to heal, but if they need to use casts on healing instead of damage, they start to lose out.

So the ideal is everyone uses abilities that don't replace an offensive gcds as much as possible to maximize everyone's damage uptime.

It's a little different in high end raids where most damage/tankbusters/etc is structured and planned for and you will see more gcd healing at certain moments.

? Why is the quote pointing to GreatWyrmGold?

Interesting. I'd guessed she'd go SCH->SMN->RDM. So she prefers low responsibility jobs/classes?
Temperance as a BLM. Interesting, guess she'd be the one teammate to be able to master it.
So Inessa is an Alisae fan?
Superbia as a gamer is such a funny image. Most chuuni war veteran, maybe streaming. Like and subscrive to Vice-roy-of-Sin.
I imagine Michael would pull a "subway Estinien" and just pop up as a vendor in a funny costume. She tries to give advice but it's too vague and the party wipes a few times from not understanding it. She starts streaming in parallel to Superbia and everyone thinks she has a realistic vtuber avatar.

Eh, at low levels SCH is extremely low responsibility. There are dungeons that SCH can pretty much summon the fairy, set themself to follow the tank, and then go AFK.
