Supramarine? Is That A Word?
Rubbing the burnt skin on her face, Louise resisted the urge to simply heal it. That hadn't worked well the last time she'd tried. The hand she'd stuck inside the reactor was blackened in places and her skin was beginning to peel off, not something she wanted to experience on her cheek. Given how her familiar was little more than an ambulatory skeleton at that moment... well, she would be waiting a while to see if whatever had gone wrong would wear off.

It wasn't the worst thing she'd felt since joining her Master anyway, so she could deal with it even if it did make her stomach flip every time she bumped her injuries.

In the mean time, the heiress focused on continuing her self-appointed task. The reactor's reaction to her intrusion more than proved it's power and she was keen to make use of it. Inside and out, she had been using her sword to scratch rough daedric letters onto each individual piece of the submarine's hull and frame. Her insight on the vessel's design was proving its worth in that regard.

Her plan was quite simple; use the knowledge of enchanting she'd gained to create a proper naval vessel out of the Yangtze.

Hours of carving did nothing to help her injuries, not that the filthy sea water was all that kind to her either, but the moon was only at it's peak by the time she quit for the night. The pain of her burns was horrible after the constant movements and her body was wracked with shivers that force her to quit. Curling into the captain's bed, she wrapped herself in a moldering old blanket and fell into a pained sleep while Tsun stood guard.

When she awoke the next morning, it was to a symphony of wretched feelings. The blanket had adhered to her weeping injuries during the night, her head was pounding like something wanted out of it, and her gut was in open revolt. The only cause she could think of was that she must have activated some curse on the stupid reactor and the idiots who made the ship hadn't included that information on whatever her familiar runes had tapped into.

Rolling off the suspended mattress, Louise didn't even make it to the corner of the room before falling into convulsive heaving as her stomach tried to empty itself of food that wasn't there. A small part of her mind wanted nothing more than to cry out for her mother, but it was viciously beaten back by the rest that remembered how Karin wouldn't have cared even before Master Cynric's arrival and the pinkette rose to her feet with a snarl of defiance before tearing the blanket off.

She wouldn't be stopped by some silly curse or affliction and she certainly wouldn't wish for comfort from a woman who was less of a mother to her than a frail and sickly Cattleya had been.

Step by step, Louise slowly made her way back out into the rest of the ship. The remaining runes wouldn't carve themselves and even though he seemed to be overcoming his own damages, her familiar was only a lightly muscled skeleton... not that he would have been all that capable of doing the work for her, but had he been in better shape she might have been willing to risk trying to submerge her mind into his like how familiar bonds were supposed to work. Regardless, she started etching runes into the floor of the bridge.

It was a halting affair, what with her current state, but she eventually managed to finish the first and most important layer of daedric lettering.

Gritting her teeth, Louise hobbled her way back toward the reactor. She could feel the magicka now, the energy pulsing off of the machine in waves so frequent that she couldn't count the moments between each impact on her skin. It almost made her vomit again, but she persevered and stepped closer. Reaching into the device once more, she grabbed hold of the energies. Pushing past the excruciating pain of her skin becoming vapor, she managed just barely to divert the waves into her etchings.

The moment she finished, the Yangtze gave a groan and lurched upward. A brief feeling of weightlessness washed over her and vanished just as quickly, dropping her to the floor in a breathless heap.

Staring down through teary eyes at her blackened and almost skeletal hand, the pinkette distantly noted the abyssal black and purple flickers around her bones. That... was probably a bad sign. Of course, the seizures that followed weren't exactly necessary to prove that thought correct.

Status: Severe burns, Extreme magicka overload. 2 hours until total nymic failure.
Magicka: (999999/14000)

Choose 1:

[] Have Tsun carry you out and onto the surface of the sub to try venting some magicka.

[] Recall to Master Cynric for help and abandon the Yangtze in the sky for now.

[] Try to pilot the Yangtze back toward University Point.

A/N: I actually feel kind of bad for how much shit happens to Louise in this quest.

Nevermind! On second thought directly venting all the Magicka is simply too dangerous to Louise when she can't do so safely herself. Cynric probably has many ways to drain it in a safer manner and not damage her soul for it.

[X] Recall to Master Cynric for help and abandon the Yangtze in the sky for now.

Looouuiiiiiise! You can't die before Cynric manages to steal your magical potential!

Yeeesh. Louise is probably the charachter which suffered the worst of everything in this quest.

Every success is just adding to her bruised, battered and slowly breaking psyche.

Now her body is just as broken as her mind! yay...?!

What could go wrong?:V

Clearly the best spell for the job is also our most expensive spell.
Alteration Invisibility: 600 Magicka. Physically remove indication of the target's presence, intended for removing the effect the target has on light to render them invisible, but can be scaled up to include other effects such as intangibility, silence, and removing scent at the cost of increased cost. Each added effect doubles the cost of magicka.
Cast it on yourself on max settings.

Alternatively, Frost seems like it becomes costlier with more area covered.
Frost: 3 Magicka per second per 10ft distance. Can freeze targets in ice with concentrated effort.
Let's bring back Christmas early! :V

Everything in Fallout is bombed to hell... except the moon. We can fix that.

That is very true, the moon has been fine for far too long. In our quest to ruin or just make worse every world we come across, Fallout seemed like a stumbling block, but we have found a way.

As a side note, is it just due to Louise's incredible ability to store magicka that she isn't dead instantly? Would other magic users be hurt as much as her or would they just instantly die from magicka overload from the reactor?

Yes, any being with a lesser capacity for magicka would have disintegrated if not exploded like a nuclear bomb. Those with a higher capacity than her would obviously have been fine if they had enough 'storage space'. Louise herself would have exploded if she wasn't magically connected to Tsun, who took the brunt of the damage due to its absurd regeneration. The fact that she has so much magicka in her system as to be visibly radiating from her wounds is definitely a sign of impending death via her soul breaking down from the stress.

If Lulu doesn't kill herself with the act of casting itself - because I have no idea what channeling that much magic does to a person - I could probably back up the moon vote.

...does gravity affect spells?
The effects of channeling such quantities of magic in a single spell varies from person to person, but while some can handle it, others die. From canon, we know that Louise simply goes into a short coma. If she recovers, I wouldn't recommend having her cast any spells for at least two weeks or she might end up like Voldemort with little soul pieces flying off at random to stick to toddlers.

And no, spells that don't use physical projectiles aren't affected by gravity.

Instead of casting an explosion at a moon that did nothing, why not try casting a massively overloaded restoration spell on herself? try to counter the damage and all that, maybe even resulting in some kind of beneficial side effects. Besides, aside from the effects on tidal forces, the moon is close enough to Earth that trying to destroy it could result in huge chunks of it raining down onto this world, resulting in orbital bombardment, tidal waves, earthquakes and who knows what else.

Owell, if the vote wins, hopefully she targets only the surface, causing only a few megatons worth of power at most and scratch the surface of the moon, defacing it at most, with little consequence to earth. Because if she targets the center of the moon...

BTW vote changed to Cynric for more expertise in dealing with this problem. He can both come up with a safer option and actually make use of the excess Magicka for useful purposes.

-[X] Vent into a massively overloaded Grand Heal.

Guys. Exploding the moon(or really, exploding ANYTHING) means a fatal amount of debris entering atmosphere. As in extinction event level of debris.

That's No Moon... Not Anymore Atleast.
"I... I think I messed up, Tsun." Louise whispered as she stared up at the sky, too exhausted to move from where her familiar had set her down.

She really hadn't been in her right mind when she'd come up with the plan. So much magicka that it's tearing you apart? Just get rid of it. Making a giant explosion in the sky had seemed much safer to potentially erasing herself from existence by putting too much power into her invisibility spell.... but she'd needed a target and the moon was just sitting there. It was just a moon, it wasn't like it was important or anything.

Well, important or not, she hadn't really thought about what the stupid thing was made of. Judging by the way it turned into smaller pieces and powder, she supposed it was some kind of rock or something... probably a giant windstone if the way it had been floating in the sky was any clue. Now she could do nothing but watch as the celestial object fragmented into countless shards.

Large chunks spun off into the night sky, some grinding eachother into smaller pieces while others collected their smaller brethren to form a larger mass. Small portions and even smaller dust motes of moon-stuff began to spread out in a cloud almost immediately while the larger ones slowly grew larger. It took a while, but as she had nothing else to do or energy to do it with, she watched as the pieces drew closer.

It was beautiful in a way, the brilliant white objects spinning in their easily predictable paths while the occasional red streak would lance through the air.

'As far as last moments go... this isn't the worst.' She thought, not really wanting to die, but expecting it nonetheless. Perhaps it was just her exhaustion, but she couldn't really bring herself to care all that much. The pinkette tried not to think about what might await her, since she didn't really believe in Brimir anymore and hadn't taken much interest in her teacher's faith.

The pain in her cooked arm was too much to let her pass out, but she didn't have anything left to repair it with. She was spent and the only reason she hadn't bled to death was because the meat was burnt to the point where it couldn't bleed. The burns on her face felt worse in all honesty, but probably just because there was more left to feel the pain. Caught in a semi-lucid haze, Louise simply enjoyed the cosmic dance in the sky and ignored even the chopping noises of Brotherhood aircraft rushing past the Yangtze.

Eventually even her wounds weren't enough to keep her conscious and she slipped into peaceful oblivion.

"Someone explain what the hell just happened!" Flagg demands furiously, his voice echoing out of the building as he slams a fist down on the table amid the panicking members of his staff.

You don't bother to give the group a second look, since the fact that the moon just randomly exploded should be self evident. There hadn't been any signs or warning. One minute everything was fine and the next there was a blinding flash from the midnight sky followed by the impending rain of debris.

You'd been indulging Raymond's nervous daughter's curiosity with a few demonstrations of useless magics, the likes of which promising children are taught to prepare themselves for a lifetime of lessons. Simple flickers of light, turning drops of water solid for a moment, and harnessing static buildup to lightly shock someone from across the room; spells that are essentially cost-less yet ones that serve to test a child's willingness to learn by teaching them in the most needlessly complicated way. What your grandmother had referred to as 'distraction magic' not for its use in distracting foes, but for keeping annoying children distracted while she worked on more important things.

Since Lily had been in need of a good distraction and you'd wanted to observe how she was adapting to her new body, you'd taken her back to your lab with a promise to her father that she would be taken care of. He hadn't been too enthused to let her go so soon, but you were quick to point out that his attempts at comforting her hadn't been working and displaying her distress in front of everyone was distasteful. Neither you nor the child simulacrum had noticed that anything was wrong until she'd claimed to hear screaming, which was how you found yourself standing outside the building that housed your room with a frightened child crushing your Ebonyflesh protected hand while the Commander raged.

Already eyes were turning to you for some measure of escape from their impending doom as by now everyone, X-com and civilian alike, knew you to be the one to save them from their last world's death.

Looking to the Oblivion gate, you begin to plan out how to save the progress everyone had made in the month or so since arriving. Starting from the beginning in a new place would be sub-optimal and you hoped to avoid that as much as you can by transporting everything you'd gathered to Earth Bet. Sure the loss of structures would be a shame, but excavation and rebuilding could be done as long as you brought all of the equipment along.

Calling out with your magic for the fire-birds to do just that, you are suddenly reminded of the fact that they'd somehow refused your orders the last time you tried. You had been busy and it'd slipped your mind in the time since. As if that wasn't enough, the moment you made the attempt, one of the blasted birds erupted into existence atop the sigil tower. With a look of profound sadness not ordinarily possible for a bird, the creature burst into flames, taking the sigil stone with it and closing the portal.

[] Use Cattleya's magicka to open a short lasting portal to another world and save yourself.

[] Begin charging as many soul gems as possible to power the barrier around the base. Hopefully it can withstand the coming bombardment.
-[] Use human souls from around the base to increase the amount gathered.

[] Go find Louise and the submarine she was sent to capture. Once there-
-[] Summon the few who are useful or important enough to matter: Cattleya, Victoria, Raymond, Moira, Hinata, Trobror.
-[] Return with the ship to fill the ship before retreating to safety.

A/N: So much for my vague plans to have X-com build a hub city for your adventures after you defeat the BoS and travel to a non-earth world so they can have a localized time-skip. Chalk another one up for the world killing scoreboard I guess... maybe I should change the name of the quest to something referencing Vishnu.

Fuck you, fire chicken.

"Someone explain what the hell just happened!"
Someone left Louise unsupervised for a few too many seconds.

Hey, this world is not completely done. Sure, there's stone falling from the sky for a while and the tides and weather are gonna be fucked up from now on, but the planet is still whole and will probably also keep its atmosphere.
