"Ah, Alabaster. How... Nice... of you to visit." The second blonde said, not sounding as pleased as her words would suggest. The man, now identified as Alabaster, grimaced and raised his pistol toward the twins. Neither seemed too concerned though, merely exchanging amused smirks. "I trust Kayden is doing well? She and Jotun must be
torn up over her argument with Brad."
"Don't be rude sister, we wouldn't want our other guest to think we lack manners." The first chided as she leaned in to smile at Louise. "Hello dear, what brings a local celebrity to visit?"
Tilting her head, Louise asked, "Celebrity?"
"Oh, but of course dear." The first twin replied. "Why, you're simply the talk of the town. A powerful new cape travels all the way from Europe to a dying city like Brockton, well... people tend to talk the most about things they don't understand."
"Um... I'm not sure
I understand, but perhaps we could discuss the topic over dinner?" The pinkette suggested,
The second blonde smiled brightly. "A lovely idea, don't you agree sister? We can even invite the others, then after eating why don't we call our mutual acquaintances?" Apparently misunderstanding the reason for Louise's confusion, she laughed, "Oh yes, those PRT types sure do have trouble keeping their mouths shut. Do our friends abroad know their little sweetheart is wandering the streets alone or did they send you here, I wonder?"
The colorless man took a step closer and growled, "Kid, get behind me if you want to keep your freedom. Damnit, why couldn't you just listen?"
Shrugging carelessly, the pinkette moved to do as he said. It wasn't as if an extra body shielding her from harm was unwanted, just unexpected. Since she had no idea what they were talking about or implying, she wasn't even sure what she should be doing, but she did know that they were delaying her plans.
With mock concern , the first blonde cooed, "Oh, you poor boy... a weak power and no sense of loyalty. How ever did you manage to last this long?"
"Loyalty's a two way street, Nessa." Alabaster answered smoothly. "Purity may not have seen eye to eye with the boss, but at least she knows the difference between respect and fear. How would Kaiser feel knowing his nieces chose to follow a rabid dog?"
"Better than following a heartless bitch like Kayden!" Nessa screeched in reply, suddenly growing a foot taller. "How dare you even mention uncle Max when you're helping that bitch misguide his children!"
Following her sister's example, the other twin grabbed a metal bust of a shaggy haired man and increased her own size. Not waiting for them to make the first move, the white man began to fire his weapon. Taking that as her cue to leave, Louise cast her Invisibility spell and promptly Levitated through the walls.
Just in time too, since a loud crash from behind caused her to look back as she flew. Emerging from the debris were the twins, both larger than any living creature she had ever seen. One of them was grasping a bloody hand to her eye and the other had several small wounds across her torso, but they were alive while Alabaster was nowhere to be seen. The last thing she noticed before she was too far to notice was the featureless box-like automobile ramming into one of the giantess' legs.
----------------------
"Where is she?!" Dauntless shouted as he landed in the rubble. Taking in the scene of what was once Max Anders' home, he spotted one of the valkyries kicking at some debris. Neither were in their armor for some reason, but the flimsy defense of the 'unwritten rules' didn't apply when you demolish buildings in your civilian ID. He would have tried harder to be surprised that the Biermann twins were Fenja and Menja, but he was more concerned with rescuing that standoffish Louise girl.
Even though the evidence connecting Kaiser to the Medhall CEO was circumstantial, it was pretty obvious. That nobody in the media had tried too hard to connect the dots and call out the dead man's relatives was the really surprising thing, but even they must have realized how hard that would tank the failing economy.
Not ten minutes ago, the two agents monitoring the new healer had reported her being chased by Alabaster. Since she was known to be Brute enough to ignore bullets, they hadn't been too concerned. Until Fenja and Menja erupted from the house the suspected Case 53 had chased the girl into. Having been on patrol near Captains hill when the call went out, he was the closest one to the scene. There was no sign of the troopers who had crashed into her, but the van was clearly totaled.
One of the nazi twins turned in his direction before disregarding him entirely in favor of helping her sister splint her leg with part of her own shirt and a support beam. Blasting the two of them with his Arclance caused no more than a minor muscle spasm, not that he expected much at their size. "I asked you a question!"
"Yes and we were clearly ignoring you." One of the women shot back, tossing a bathtub at him and forcing him to take cover behind his power-shield while sister charged forward.
Porcelain rained down around Dauntless as he fired off a rapid series of blasts, hitting the knee of the running twin multiple times and messing with her footing. Taking advantage of the stumble, the psuedo-spartan sped through the air and hit the steadying sister with a spinning strike of the Arclance's shaft.
It was his most practiced move in case of high-end Brutes, combining his boots speed and the hardness of his lance... it probably would have killed even Lung if he wasn't ramped up enough, but the giant nazi fell back with barely a bloody nose. Still, combined with whatever had happened to her eye, he was certain that he could at least hold the two of them off long enough for the better, more experienced heroes like Armsmaster to arrive and help. As long as they couldn't get away or get reinforcements of their own in the meantime.
So it was surprising when, as he defended against a barrage of masonry and overly expensive junk labelled art, Alabaster clawed his way out of the rubble to join him in the bubble with a friendly wave. Reacting immediately, the hero push-kicked the pale man in the chest, sending the nazi rolling headfirst into a jagged stone.
He barely had time to be horrified at killing another human being when Alabaster's power kicked in and the nazi reformed with an annoyed scowl on his face. "Don't be an ass, I'm trying to help! Truce."
"What?" Being somewhat new to the job, he really hadn't expected a random teamup with villains outside of an Endbringer fight.
Pulling out his phone, the colorless cape held a hand to the receiver and explained, "Neither of us can take those two and they're trying to send that kid back to Germany."
"Freaking stuff, we told her this would happen." Dauntless exclaimed, ignoring the other man's amusement at his choice of words. There were more pressing matters. Shifting the shield to better protect the other man, he fired at the woozy giantess as she climbed back to her feet, sending her sprawling. If teaming up with a white supremacist was what it took to protect an innocent girl, Jason didn't really need more of a reason. "Why are you helping me instead of them?"
"There's nazis and then there's
nazis." Alabaster explained without explaining as he redialed. "Have you even met Nacht or Nebel? Really talked to them? Don't get me wrong, I like beating Niggers and Kikes as much as the next person, but I draw the line when it goes from punishing animals to torturing people until they trigger."
Not entirely comfortable with the villain's words, Dauntless understood where he was coming from. Sort of. Just as he was about to respond, Alabaster held up his hand. "Dealing with the twins at Max's, I need backup five minutes ago. I know, but they have the Gesellschaft kid. Hurry, it's just me and the boyscout."
"Boyscout?" Jason asked as the villain hung up, only to feel a jolt when the cyclops punted the entire sphere of his shield's projection into the air. I really should pay more attention. He thought, chagrined at being snuck up on by someone larger than Leviathan.
Ignoring the odd mental image of Leviathan trying to tiptoe up behind him, he stabilized himself and dove to catch his temporary ally. His fingers were inches away when the villain was hit by a projectile and his chunks were carried out of the neighborhood. "Well... crap."
"Yeah, tell me about it." Alabaster said from below, startling the hero and firing his handgun at the closest enemy to no effect.
The two of them proceeded to play a really uncomfortable game of whack-a-mole with the valkyries, one flying around melee attacks and blocking projectiles while the other simply refused to stay dead. Even being active in both personas didn't mean he could go on indefinitely and Dauntless was beginning to flag when a high whine cut through the air.
Grinning behind his helmet, the hero was treated to the sight of a Tinkertech motorcycle soaring over a rooftop to smack the rearmost blonde in the temple. As the remaining giant turned to see her shrinking sister collapse, she sprinted to catch her, forcing the Tinker to dodge out of the way or be crushed.
Undeterred, Armsmaster fired a chained ball from the end of his halberd and hit the fleeing woman in the back of the knee. Rather than fall, she grabbed the chain and pulled, causing the Tinker to fly toward her. The man was graceful and inspiring in the way he turned the attack to his advantage and landed on her outstretched arm before shooting her in the neck with something from his weapon... and getting swatted off for his effort.
It was at that moment that Purity arrived and the fight would have ended. If not for the sniper round that knocked her out of the sky as Hookwolf tore into the neighborhood.
--------------------------------
Landing in a valley between two peaks, Louise looked back the way she came. The city was just a collection of bright dots in the far off distance, miles and miles East of the mountains she was in. It didn't seem that anyone lived out that far and that made it perfect.
Of course, it would be hard to see if anyone was, since everything was covered in plantlife... but she hadn't seen or heard any sign of humanity since passing the smaller towns outside Brockton Bay.
For good measure, she flew straight up into the night sky and upon reaching the clouds, she looked down. No lights or clearings could be seen on the mountain she chose, but there was a small tower of some sort on the other side of a nearby peak.
"Oh well, I can simply raze it if the people there become a problem." She thought aloud before descending with a careless shrug. "Now how do I tell Master Cynric that he should put the gate here?"
