I'm too tired to write a chapter tonight, but I've had an idea bugging me for the last few days.
I like writing this Quest and I hope I do that well, but I don't really get any feedback on the story itself, which makes it really difficult to improve my writing and gauge what you guys actually think of the Quest beyond 'X likes X Chapter'
I was thinking of throwing together a quick list of questions for you guys if you care?
One major thing about quests that
I've noticed is that when everything's going
well there tends to be very little critique of anything about it, unless the writing is
really bad - and proper feedback is simultaneously one of the hardest things to get and one of the easiest. Players tend not to bother, but a good Beta Reader had damn well
better. Not that a beta is
necessary here, I don't think.
Lets give this a shot.
Character
1 - Who is your favourite character and why?
Always a tough question... we've only really gotten to see a few characters in any detail, but you've done a good job so far. Going to have to go with the Forest here though, it's sheer inhumanity was well conveyed.
2 - Who is your least favourite character and why?
I have
no idea. I'm (almost randomly) going to go with the Demon of Due, as this
could have been a fascinating quest about a Big Sister taking care of her Little Sister, but then a Demon had to show up and butt it's ugly mug into things.
3 - What do you think of Cerys? (Her personality, her growth, her reasoning.)
Perfectly understandable, very Una-centric (it seems her entire life has been, which leaves a
ton of room for character growth on both sides and you've
shown that), and similar to what I probably would have been thinking under similar circumstances at her age, complete with the player-made decisions that were rather short-sighted (burning the house down, really, guys? It was a good idea at the time though!) and had consequences she didn't predict.
4 - What do you think of the other characters? (^)
I think we need to get to know them more and watch them grow. Except for Karen; she's grown enough. I like Morgan, want to spend more time with Daifu and Cuifen, want to watch Una grow, and feel like Sabina needs a lot more hugs.
5 - What things bother you the most about the Quest? (A particular character, a piece of Lore, etc)
I think you've done a fantastic job of world building so far, and I don't think we'll get to explore that as much as I'd like, given all the stuff that's going to come. Alas.
6 - What are your favourite things about the quest so far? (^)
To quote someone from earlier...
6 - yuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuriyuri
Sometimes I'm easy to please.
7 - What do you think I can improve on? (Barring my current slow update rates, Holiday soon...)
Hm, I'm not sure. Squeezing in world-building is a design job as much as it is a writing job, as if it doesn't make
sense to include world-building in a scene it shouldn't be included, and game design and writing are two
entirely different things.
Oh, there we go. Game Design seems to be something you could stand to learn more of, but that's true of
everybody running a Quest that utilizes mechanics of some sort or another, as opposed to a Quest running solely off of narrative and write-ins.
