Magical Girl Quest - The Fire That Burns

How's Unified Light is faring these days?
Any public reaction to the operation that's going on in Britain?
Also any media digging up the true story?

Humans lie all the time
People were just getting used to not running cold war drills before now.
The media has been quietened.

Also, last questions for now.
It's five in the morning and I'm tired.

are there any demons from hell that were so weak they were indistinguishable from a human unless they acted like a demon would (and this is assuming being a demon gives you instincts and impulses that's hard to resist and would make you stand out, alot) , and not as a human would?

also are there any demons that came to earth (they could get through because they were that weak) and just settled down? had a family and shit? wait does that mean really weak angels could get through as well?

Demons do not look like humans.
Their strength is also not indicative of their nature.
There have been strong, but pacifistic Demons in the past.

None of them have tried.
Kind of an eternal war thing going on.

EDIT: I'm ending the Q&A here, leave any questions you have for me here and I'll get to them in the morning.

So... we saw our buff in action (already made took notes to train that later), the fight worked out... reasonably well... I was actually smiling over how we did not take a single point of damage.

That one casualty is a little annoying, though.

not just healing, anything they use to avoid getting injured in the first place.
Creating a shield is on my list of things to do.

Honestly, the decisions made in this fight just don't make sense, whether in a logical chain of events or a hurried series of decisions in the heat of the moment.
And what would spell "thirteen-year-old girl figuring out how to git gud" better than that?

I also added the Q&A to the Intel, so that people can find it again.

Besides, I would like to point everyone's attention to the last Update's title.
IGNITE LEGEND

People have started to see and... this should mean our legend has now truly begun.
I mean, we fought a guy and his summons and took no damage, none at all... while they killed one of our companions in seconds.

Vote comes later... I am not in favor of doing the nuke-option right now, though; would rather scout the place first... and give that enforcer a chance to find closure with what happened. She either lost a good friend, sibling... or maybe even more.

Anyway... one question @Rukia: Who rolled the 99 two (?) Updates back and what was it for?

Edit: I just realised something... why did our Thermal Spears not apply Freeze to the Scrants? That should have made them take a little damage and lowered their ApT to 1... which might have made that Enforcer live, if we used the spell on the attacking Scrant before.

"this is Cerys, a child largely failed by society who has a history of committing minor crimes. a few weeks ago she gained the ability to create milewide firestorms by thinking hard."

I suspect the social safety net is going to get some reinforcing in the near-term future, and that a lot of folks are going to be missing sleep.

Now im imagining some sort of news special about magical girls, and Cerys in particular, after the general public finds out about the existence of magic.

The argument of people being imprisoned down there is very convincing... and aside from that, as I said, I would like to fulfill this Enforcer's wish.

Missed the Q&A due to Morpheus.

Though most of my questions were answered, so let's go with the remaining ones:

- Since I missed the character design discussion, a little extension on that: Is there a reason you didn't use Orange Heart for Daiyu's image? Seems to me she should have fit the bill rather well, being one of the oldest characters in Neptunia, wielding a shield as well as having what seems to be an optimistic personality. Though the megaphone would have been a bit weird, but it's not like there aren't images of her without. Could even have been using that shield to hit things ala Shielder or simply pummel enemies into the ground with her fists while being boosted by whatever ability. Would have been a rather nice concept I think, with Cerys having the sword of the MG set and Daiyu the shield. Or are we scheduled to meet an Orange Heart expy in the future?
- Mechanically how does the whole intercepting attacks work here in general? As I remember how it was going in CWMGQ, the main way to block an attack against another character was with Intercept or some similar rule. That or charging the attacker to divert its attention before it attacks and taking the aggro. Otherwise, unless you use someone literally as a shield it didn't really work. Here it seems a bit more narratively driven as shown with the Scrant intercepting attacks by virtue of positioning. Are there some precise guidelines that we can get in order to make plans easier? If we need to snipe a commander inside an army or are in a hostage situation, for example, that could come in handy to no what works or not. Also is overpenetration a thing with our attacks and should we plan accordingly if we need to hit someone standing before something/someone we don't want to hit, for example?

Oh boy, those are some long questions. I have to admit I had the idea with Orange Heart as well, but only long after the picture for Daiyu was chosen.

The second question is something I can answer you, though. I actually asked CW about it for my own Quest.
Generally, anyone whose weapon or concept fits the idea of intercepting can do so.

Big sword? Okay, go and do it. Tiny little rapier? Nope.
The concept of a magical girl is also important and might allow even the rapier to be used for intercepting; someone such as Daiyu, whose concept is to protect others, is naturally able to intercept no matter her weapon. Cerys, if she had gotten a small weapon or firearms or something like that, would not because she is all about dealing tons of damage.

Seeing that we have a large, two-handed sword however... we should be able to intercept attacks by virtue of having a weapon that can do so.
(Note that this does not mean we can warp right into the enemy's attack from far away; we have to be in a position where it makes sense to be able to do it)

TBH I like Daiyu's current design much more than that Orange Heart. I don't claim to know the character's personality... but I don't think it'd fit? She looks like a happy and cutesy person, which is entirely the opposite of the image Rukia's put up on the front page. From what little we know of Daiyu, she has no parents (either they're dead, gone or not there) and she was in a warzone, fighting in a couple of skirmishes with her magical girl powers to save people.

This brings to mind how MGs, or at least the first 2 (excluding PtV) are similar in a way. They're both survivors of horrible life experiences. Cerys is an abuse survivor, and Daiyu is a war survivor. PtV girl also wished to be "as happy as possible". I'd imagine someone who wishes something like that either isn't happy, or they've had a tough life.

It's kind of odd, but it seems the starting duo of MGs are supposed to be serious, dark characters. Ones who won't flinch in the face of trauma. Which is why I think the serious, sharp features of the image given fit Daiyu. Plus she looks much more chivalrous and knightly in armor with a sword and shield rather than that weird leotard, and she's Chinese/has white hair, none of which that image shows.

I do remember Rukia implaying that Gaia chose those girls specifically because they had a hard life; something about deserving a chance to shape their own fate, I think.

It is true that the original Orange Heart is a cutesy-friendly girl, but this was more about the meta-connection; her and True Arfoire (Cerys) are from the same franchise, after all.
Besides, Cerys is nothing like Arfoire, either.

Additionally, no one ever said that MG's look exactly the same upon transforming; that might as well be a unique occurence with Cerys.

No their personalities might not match up. But it would be extremely odd to have a happy smiling girl as the image, and the Daiyu turns out to be a dour brooding girl. Cognitive dissonance would be had.

I don't know true Arfoire, but at least the expression she's wearing in Cerys character image is an expression I can imagine Cerys wearing normally.

EDIT: on a more personal level, that costume is really short and has a very ugly orange color. I don't like it at all.

Actually, I think that Daiyu will turn out to be the bright girl of the trio duo; she has the protector-theme and from how Rukia portrayed her so far... even while jaded, she appeared like an upbeat, optimistic person to me.
Not to speak of genre conventions, where things would be really depressing if the whole main cast consists of brooding cynics. Cerys is not yet there, but she fills up that space already.

Not really cutesy, though if you want a better take on her personality, here is a basic summary: only the HDD form of Orange Heart is somehow cutesy and innocent-looking in her mannerisms, though retains her overall personality. In her normal form she is more of a tomboy who tries to appear strong-willed, sometimes forcing it. In HDD, she is closer to her original personality, the tomboy persona appeared over time and is basically a strong-willed facade to hide behind since she has to cope with the fact she is the sole remaining CPU from Zero Dimension. Basically, you can consider her a bit shonen in a cutesy package: she remains eternally optimistic even though a lot of shit happened along the way.

Personally, I believe she is a good fit because of that, since in the glimpses of Daiyu, she seems really optimistic and tries to reach for something better even though she is surrounded by a lot of shit. As for how she acts in general, well, that's still up in the air since we didn't have a chance to see how she acts, only her internal monologue.

I give you personal dislike... but you can not really discard an idea because of the costume being short. Cerys wears about the same thing, just in another colour and with more cleavage.
