I'm not going to weigh in on the logic of either side's arguments, but I will ask that everyone read over what they write and really consider if the words they used are polite and won't be inflammatory intentionally or not. You cant account for people's tolerances perfectly but at least try to say your piece without saying things that can be easily construed as overly dismissive of the other side of the argument, thank you.

The OTL had Malekith and Snorri Whitebeard travelling around, exploring the world of Malus together as buddies, and they discovered crude human settlements, including some that had artwork of Grimnir heading out to his Doom. So humans are already around, but the Dawi and Asur didn't meet their biggest civilisations yet.

Asking Snorri for a favor is like the nuclear option for all Northern dwarves going forward. Our dear departed mother is going to be so proud in the UnderEarth.
 
Snorri being a Living Ancestor of the North basically ties him to the North in a way that it doing better makes him do better and vis versa. So having Whitebeard help the North is still huge for Snorri.
 
I think the help would also help bind the North to the center as the geographical barriers become more significant over time. We don't want people asking Where Were You to the High King after all, when the connections break down, because there would be tapestries, murals and stories about how he helped secure the North.
 
One thing I am wondering about is will this be public knowledge or not. Will people know that the High King is helping to build the Holds as a favour for Snorri or will everyone think it is just Whitebeard being generous.

In other words who will get the credit? Snorri or Snorri? :lol:

Probably not. Snorri wouldn't ask for his name to be mentioned. But the Valayans would know.

Snorri's Task: "Help smooth things out politically and speak in favor of the project"
Snorri's Interpretation: "So I got myself a favor from the High king, and thought, ehh, why not?"

I think the end result would look like the Black Mountains, where after the beastmen purge, Whitebeard helped build and fortify and got himself a bunch of super loyal new holds.

That begs the question if we are wasting the favor , if we are spending a favor to get the high king to do something he was already going to do or does the favor mean he is not only going to do it but double down on too
 
Unlike the Black mountain dwarves the North could have probably handled the expansion on their own.

So it's probably just gives jet fuel to the expansion since with Whiteboards personal efforts.

Snorri WB would probably just have helped restore the existing Karaks to their pre-war status.

The Valayan project is to convince the Local kings to fort up.

Snorri's favor from Snorri WB is to effectively send a second wave of colonists up north.

So in short, we're improving the post-war situation of the north by about 3 whole degrees of magnitude.

Most of those humans settled on the coast , so not unless the dwarfs developed a taste for living outside of mountain holds though the elves might settle the coast in force though and if we manage to keep the waystone. Network preserved and intact then the passive chaos corruption and influence would be well mitigated
