Threads Of Destiny(Eastern Fantasy, Sequel to Forge of Destiny)

Voted best in category in the Users' Choice awards.
I'm not vibing with the Hatred/Aversion option.
She's going to be invading peoples minds and using their memories, thoughts and feelings against them. People can choose Greed, Want, Ignorance or Delusion...and have the art not be at all peaceful.
Just because its offensively inclined, doesn't mean it has to be about something like Hatred or Aversion. Thief of Names is going to be her art, she should be able to understand it on a deep level.
Ling Qi now understands Hatred enough to get jobs done, the woman whose story she learned from that vase helped with that. She gets it on an intellectual level, she doesn't need anything more than that.

I don't know whether I should choose Ignorance/ Delusion or Greed/Want. I voted both for now since no side has made an argument thats more convincing for me than the other.

these are interesting choices and I'd say it is worth looking at the options more closely:

I don't like the Hatred and Aversion option that much since LQ isnt that much into those emotions. We also just started to consider Community in a defensive way with the Myriad Roots Art, so I'd pass on this one.

Ignorance and Delusion do fit as opposites to LQ's curiosity and I guess this feels like a way to build on the Isolation as a blade theme.
Isolation is one of our major concepts and we don't have a dedicated art to exploring it, besides our domain.

Greed and Desire fit with it being a Thief art. I guess it would work as a nice learning tool for LQ to explore the parts of Want that are less nice. She currently thinks of it more positively after all. We already have two arts that explore Want though (Final Frost Serenade and Laughing Flight of the Wind Thief), so maybe we dont need another one for that?

I guess I like both the Greed and Ignorance options for different reasons, but the one that addresses an issue we have the most right now is the Ignorance option. This would give us a way to leverage our Isolation concept as a blade

Because the goal is to make the heist more successful so fooling someone about whether the heist is actually happening is the best thing.

While I fully agree with the sentiment, FFS is not related to Isolation. We often get that impression because LQ tends to use her domain to... isolate her target before FFS'ing them. I don't think that would work for Thief of Name's offensive technique, because LQ can't impose her doamin on someone else's mind as easily as she can in the outside world.

Sure, that's what I said lower below. If we choose Ignorance here, we would get all of Privation in an offensive application

Active Domain (from FVM) --> Isolation as Privation of the Soul, cut off from others
FFS --> Cold and Hunger (Qi sapping) as Privation of the Body
ToN --> Ignorance as Privation of the Mind

That's a pretty cool trifecta if I say so myself.
It's very cohesive from a narrative standpoint, for those concerned about that, providing a concise theme for LQ's intent to harm: Privation

I have a few in favor Ignorance/Delusion seems like a much better weapon to wield against the Yith, whose war effort might rest on the majority of their population being kept uninformed to maintain consensus
Ignorance seems like a less specialized sort of tool: I suspect for some of the more exotic kids of minds, like, say, orthodox polar cultivators (not that we want to fight those, but it's a good example), greed and want just hits a wall that ignorance never will.

This puts it in a very succinct way.

I love how Buddhist this is.

"What are the three things that chain humans to suffering?" underlines that life is suffering, because no one can actually not engage with those pillars.

[X] Greed and Desire [Align offensive technique to Communication and Want]

Can you explain how it "aligns" the offensive tech to Concepts like Community or Communication? Its hard to imagine those Concepts being offensively inclined.

I think Unity of Blades is very much a communication and community concept turned to violence. Us, the community, communicating about who "they" are that must be stabbed.

The degree to which good and necessary things cannot be made not evil without breaking the good or necessary bits is wonderfully real and complex.

There's a reason they're so insidious and terrifying.

Worth noting that we are trying to do very similar things, in the long run. How do we make 'the emerald seas'? How do we break the loyalties to Shenhua without war?

The key, I think, is understanding that the rot came after the matriarch, not with.

Man, I had to retype this all out again because the site forced me to reload the page, lowkey mad.

Ignorance and Delusion is the best for Qi to go for, we've honed Isolation to be our Domain weapon, we've already stretched our battle style with our hodgepog of techniques, so I don't think we need to do that any further than we already have.

I don't see Qi at all identifying with Hatred really at all, she can be angry, but it doesn't embody her, Greed is something she has a history with, and has struggled with in the past, but it's not really something she should focus into her Way nearly so much, (Besides her Greed for Family and Friends) she has come far enough in her understanding for now, if we don't want them to be a focus for us (which I don't at least)

Isolation and Community is what we use for war and social things, I fully believe it's better at this point to focus on what we're good at, and work it into being as effective as possible. That way later on, we'll have less fat to trim from our Cultivation.

I think the problem mentioned earlier is more if we run into someone whose way is ok with or benefits from being isolated. If all we've got is isolation, we won't be able to harm them.

Isolation is our sword, and I don't think that's gonna change...but more than one weapon in the toolkit is a good thing to have.

[X] Greed and Desire [Align offensive technique to Communication and Want]

we should probably diversify our kit a bit.
plus, Isolation is great for cold arts. but Thief of names is more about finding the target's wants than isolating them, so it works better for it

I mean, yeah, that part is literally straight from actual Buddhism.

Anyway, put me down for team diversification-of-offense.

I'd rather LQ put her money where her mouth is and actually show the world why she keeps calling herself a greedy girl and make itself useful rather than just have it be relegated to self put downs.
