[X] Greed and Desire [Align offensive technique to Communication and Want]

Isolation definitely stands out as the most obvious and "potent" option just thematically, it really cuts at the core of self and community in a way that Ling Qi already has a really strong grasp of. But looking at the character level, she has been moving away from that for a while now. It's certain still a foundational piece, but it doesn't strike me as the best direction to lead Thief of Names? And while I understand the fear that leaning into Greed might just aggravate LQ's worse self-perception issues, it also seems like a great opportunity for her to finally addressing/reassess that.

[X] Ignorance and Delusion [Align offensive technique to Communication and Isolation]
I wholeheartidly disagree with the the notion that because FFS's, and LQ's Domain's, offensive capabilities are based on Isolation that means it's already covered and thus we needn't focus more in it.
Isolation is Ling Qi's blade, as has been stated numerous times during the quest. A blade needs to be sharpened truly effective. This is a great chance to compound and refine Isolation through the lens of another art and the Shu Yue's guide, which I deem more important that pointlessly branching out at this juncture.

Besides these would be two distinct yet complementary forms of Isolation. LQ's Isolation, as well as others Concepts, is rooted in the notion of Privation.
We can see that here.
  • Isolation V (2/13): As starvation is privation of the body, isolation is privation of the soul. Thus, the greatest foe is I. No hand may reach the one who has clenched and withdrawn. The blade Isolation rends all warmth into cold.
  • Mystery III (4/5): Hunger is privation of the body, loneliness privation of the heart, Ignorance privation of the mind. In privation, seek answers.

Privation of the body, soul and mind lead to Hunger, Isolation and Ignorance respectively.
LQ's Domain deals mainly with Isolation, Privation of the Soul, cutting the enemy off from their allies. It also feeds into Ignorance be denying them Communication with others
FFS deals with physical Privation, the effects of cold on their bodies, with some Isolation as well.

By choosing Ignorance and Delusion here, we can create a full offensive suit centered around Privation.
This is a lot more cohesive narratively, mechanicaly and thematically that adding another new element.

While hatred, aversion and how the interact with the concept of communities from the general perspective of the Hui era would be interesting to see, I feel like it doesn't really fit with Ling Qi. She's just not the type to harbor lasting hatred or grudges unless something extreme happens.
Should she not look to unserstand hatred and aversion more, then? She is a socially-focused agent and cultivator, after all. Blind spots when it comes to empathy and social intellect are not good for politicking or general mediation.

I've been swayed by the variety argument. In the unlikely event we come up against someone that we can't beat through Isolation (which should already be rare) I'd like to have another card to play. Plus fleshing out LQ's understanding of Want to also include how it can be bad more fully will be good for her I think. I know in the most recent post she said she theoretically understands how Want plays into Greed, but I want that to be internalized more so that so that she is more protected from following that path herself.

While I fully agree with the sentiment, FFS is not related to Isolation. We often get that impression because LQ tends to use her domain to... isolate her target before FFS'ing them. I don't think that would work for Thief of Name's offensive technique, because LQ can't impose her doamin on someone else's mind as easily as she can in the outside world.

While that's true, Ling Qi does more or less understand those things. Thief of Names did start out as a variant of the 'eye of grudges' after all. There is also the recent Vase incident.
She's not the type to really hold such feelings, but she isn't ignorant of them either.

Yeah, this is definitely Qi's focus on offensive techniques, her Blade is Isolation, she thrives in shutting down enemy morale. Communication and the control of information is her chosen warfare. Driving them to feel cold and alone, trapped in the dark as they die either a slow creeping death, or are struck down by her blade and phantoms sung into existence.

We are specifically forging a sword, here. Don't pick anything you might have a use for in peaceful times.
