"Spacing out" meaning that it seems like she's staring off into space while in a public space or in conversation when in fact she's actually usually having a conversation with Sixiang inside her head or studying an insight she's made for one of her arts, thus cultivating.

Voting for this for a dumb reason. Both Ling Qi and Xia Lin have hill tribe heritage. Trade caravans are a Thing for hill tribe remnants. It would be funny if we approached a trade master who, maybe a little bit too clever for their own good, flashed some kind of secret hill tribe handsign at the two assuming, or testing whether, they're in that culture.
And then Ling Qi catches the meaning of the signal anyway because she's a cheater. Ahh, fun(ny) times.

Might also potentially relate to how at the beginning of the quest Ling Qi seemed like the sort of person who would focus on one thing for awhile, and then suddenly switch to something else, but could be wrong there.
