We also kind of need those logs to complete our mission. We'd have to dig them back up afterwards and if any get damaged we'd need to stick around until the ogres cut new ones in their stead. We might not even have the time for it given Fanriel said the Beastmen are minutes away.
Oh, no, just to clarify - the idea isn't to stake them in the ground, it's to lay them down in their bundles, to make makeshift barriers and direct the Beastmen's attack. The only real difficulty would be needing to pick them up again afterwards.

I suppose that the Beastmen might try to hack through them? Doubt it if they're likely strung out and liable to arrive in small numbers, as Fanriel says - much easier to go around, as we would want them to. That way we can create killing zones to blunt any charge with concentrated shooting and, wherever possible, our Swordmasters.

Not only that but the more time we spend out here the more likely we'll run into Greenskin reinforcements looking for a scrap. And it looks like the Dice Gods here want bloodshed

Modern Autarii are not Druuchi,
Almost all elves save for the Autarii themselves would disagree, but otherwise approved.

That's an unfortunate roll... Thank you for the update regardless, Blackout!

Agree with everyone else's reasoning that standing and fighting is likely to go far better than trying to leave. The Beastmen have no reason to stay in the forest now that they know their cover is blown - indeed, they have every reason to try to slaughter the expedition so word doesn't get back - and they're faster than we are.

One thing I haven't seen yet: we now have a whole bunch of logs sitting around. I wonder if we can use them to break up the impetus of the Beastmen's charge. No time for a palisade or anything like that, of course, but laying down the log bundles and perhaps the foliage stripped from them in such a way as to channel the Beastmen into killing zones for our archers and crossbowmen might be a help, if the Ogres can manage it. This would, of course, make it more difficult to pack up and disengage.
You could do that, yeah. It might make it more difficult for the crossbowmen to hit the Beastmen, however.

Okay, ANOTHER modification to my plan, because i really liked Nimbus idea.

[ ] Take up full defensive formation, give the Beastman a bloody nose and then retreat in good order. Order the Ogres to pile up the log bundles to create improvvised barricades and blunt the charge of the Beastemen, creating kill zones for the crossbowmen and chokepoints for the infantry. Summon as many Ghyran Eelementals as you safely can and use them as meat shields to support the frontline, then lead the Swordmasters were the fighting is fiercest.

Would't channeling them into kill zones make it easier?

We could also pile them up to create improvvised barricades for the crossbowmen.
These aren't machine guns, these are crossbows. And we are talking about bundles of tree trunks, you can't make fancy fortifications out of them with the time you have available. You could simply drop them between you and the Beastmen to break up their formation, but that would also allow the Beastmen to use them as cover. To effectively break up the Beastmen they need to be close enough to you that you can't really prevent it from impeding the crossbowmen at least somewhat.

I dislike the write-in because I think our priority should be to get away as fast as possible once we've blunted the attack, which will get slowed down at least a bit.

Also don't really see the need for a write-in here.

KISS

I still don't see why to use Ghyran elementals specifically and not say Ghur or perhaps even Aqshy elementals if they can manage to get in contact with the Beastmen without being killed by arrows.

I trought the Beastmen would go araound the loga to reach our troops and be vulnerable to the crossbowmen.

Because they are supposed to be meat shields that will slow down the Beastmen while our other troops do the killing.

Would not the Druuchi themselves feel strange about associating with their distant cannibal hillbilly tribal cousins? I don't gather there's enormous fondness between the two cultures.

I don't think the cannibal part would be a problem for the Druchii.

Happy with either, at this point! There's plenty of precedent for lying down felled trees as field fortifications but the Beastmen are probably better at picking their way through a fortification of that kind than most. In an ideal scenario, the Beastmen will arrive sufficiently strung out that our crossbowmen and the dragoons can concentrate their shooting regardless!

Get rid of the first wave, GTFO before they renew the attack.
Let's not complicate, battlefield cooperation between us and other Mercs will be somewhat shaky as is.

Ultimately, the beastmen have/had no idea that it wasn't just one elf scout.

Even if they now can smell more, they have no way to regroup into lines.

In a reasonable world, ritualised cannibalism would be a rather low concern, given… everything over there.

However, can you really not imagine the Druchii not culturally posturing and nitpicking over it to drive in how the Autarii are savages who deserve minimal rights? Hypocrisy isn't much of a barrier to them.

Better that than to acknowledge that a group of Druchii successfully broke off and became their own thing. Malekith does not tolerate separatism.

Malus Darkblade outright refers to them as "Hill-Druchii" in his novel.

Yes, but until they go around the logs they can use them as cover. And if you place the logs close enough to your main line that it will have a material impact on the Beastmen formation, that will leave not a lot of time for the crossbowmen to shoot them while they are between you and the logs.

Again, you do not have the time or the equipment for fancy killzones. Yes, you can use the logs, but it will have downsides.

No need for anything more complicated. Fanriel can plan this out well enough, given the lack of time.
